remix: today's Bible.......2007-10-06
This Bible speaks to me in today;s language and makes it easy to read and to contemplate on. I enjoy reading lectionary lessons in traditional study bibles and then reading remix- it's a joy.
...and we who are about to die salute you..........2007-09-07
for gladiators in the Spirit only! this message is good news, indeed! i used to think i was so smart, reading the king james--in all it's stately majesty. but i didn't really get it, i guess, that all those good things in the KJV were written for believers hundreds of years ago. and that's great, but what about believers today? the gospel is so simple--just believe!
if GOD does not receive honor from men, what a wonder that women and men leave '5 stars' to commend His good Word! (might as a well buy yourself a five star notebinder and write your own words, if they're worth so much.) so, i suppose it's a silly thing to say 'yay' or 'nay' to this translation...why not judge for yourself? anyway, i would have rated it 'all stars', but that's more or less self-evident, so i guess i'll go with five just to catch a glance or two.
remember that 'theophilus' means one who loves GOD...i know that many believers think Theophilus was a patron to Luke, but i think 'theophilus' was merely a code, a hidden greeting--to us! to those who believe, and who love GOD (...'i decided to write it all out for you, most honorable [GOD-lover]'...)! throughout all the ages...no patron saints for us!
if you love the Lord, why not send His love to the ones He loves? 'The Message' is a good report, and one that ought to be shared, not unto unwise, but to us, and those who believe, redeeming the time because the time is soooo short. i wish i had a boombox to blast this Message to anyone who would hear! and that's a good re-port (James 1:5-8)!
Print Issues.......2007-07-03
I love the Message version of the Bible, but in this edition the print is too small even for my teenagers. I understand the idea for keeping the volume small and cute for them to WANT to read it... but they are having problems with the print size. I really wish I had gotten them the full size version.
questionable.......2007-05-06
As a divinity student that has to study Greek and be able to look at all the possible translations that Koine A Greek can take, I am disturbed when reading this. I do not have a problem with using contemporary language in the Bible. The NRSV is a great translation for this. However, when meanings are implied that the Greek does not imply there is cause for concern. Koine A is a difficult language to translate because it can be translated so many different ways yet the Message diverges even from these many different ways to interpret and seems to be promoting its own agenda. A translation that is promoting its own agenda needs to be questioned. If one does decide to read the translation be careful because the discrepencies are blatant.
Awesome.......2007-04-25
I never could really pick up the Bible (King James version) and read it without becoming very confused and bored. I picked up this book several months ago and could not put it down. I could easily understand what was being said and what was going on and I kept wanting to read more. It affected me in a way that any other version just couldn't cut it. It's great for teens and the younger generation who just can't wrap themselves around the scriptures the way they are written in other versions.
What's also good is that when you are actually being able to read through the Bible smoothly and without trying to sit and understand what exactly this or that sentence means, you want to pick up that KJV or NIV version and compare it to what this one says.
People are concerned that "The Message" takes away from the Bible's originality. Well, I disagree. The Bible has been written and re-written many, many times. It has been translated many times. There is nothing wrong with reading it in a "contemporary language" versus any other version that is out there. People should feel NO shame in reading the Bible in a way that they are comfortable with, in a way that speaks to them personally. People have different opinions and people understand things differently. Not everyone can say that they believe everything in the same way, 100%. I think that the older generations are so used to the way that they grew up with Christianity that it is just shameful if the younger generation does it any differently.
"The Message" helped me with my faith and really grasping Christianity and understanding what all of it means. If it wasn't for this book I would have never picked up the Bible, I would have stayed uninterested in learning anything about Christianity. I am sure that others can say the same thing. I highly recommend it! :)

A Breath of Fresh Air!.......2007-10-11
The Message Bible brings a whole new comfort to the reading of the Word of God. The Word unfolds with new light and fresh wonder. I love this book.
Exactly what I was looking for..........2007-08-08
I have been using the Message version for about two years. It has really opened the scriptures up to me in new and fresh ways. To be able to read the Bible as it was intended to be read, in common conversational language, is a great blessing. My favorite para-phrase!
I love the size and style of this one. It easy to carry around and to work without looking like you are a bible-thumper carrying some huge black KJV Bible. The remix version is great as it gives more detailed verse number descriptions for when you want to refer to other versions and compare.
A great daily reader!!!
stylish.......2007-06-14
THIS IS NOT A GOOD BIBLE TO HAVE AS YOUR ONLY RESOURCE. I LIKE THE WORDING ON THE VERSES ABOUT GODS LOVE AND GRACE. BUT THE WORDING ABOUT GODS JUDGEMENTS ARE SEVEARLY DOWN PLAYED TO THE POINT WHERE YOU DONT GET AN ACCURATE VIEW OF GODS WORD. I RECOMMEND NASV, NIV, NKJ.
Very good bible!!!.......2007-05-26
It is a really nice bible for the price. It doesn't have religious look with gold pages. It also have life time warranty on its binding and cover by just mailing it back to company.
The kids love it!.......2007-05-07
I bought this bible as an extra because you can never have too many bibles. That sounds nuts, huh? Turns out a girl in our Youth Group didn't have a bible, and she loves it. The message is a great translation for kids to read the word of God and digest it.

Very refreshing take on Scripture.......2007-04-10
Having grown up in church I started feeling a little too familiar with Scripture. I found myself opening my NIV and simply re-reading all the parts I've highlighted.
In somewhat of a rash decision I clicked through a few reviews before deciding on this one. ...and I'm definitely glad I did. The Message translation is very readable and has definitely given me new perspective on things.
On one hand, I like the way it couples Old Testament passages with the New Testament. For example: you read "In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth..." then it hops over to John and you read, "In the beginning was the Word..." It provides some neat parallels, but sometimes I find myself so engrossed in the Old Testament story that I don't want to break to the NT just yet.
All in all, it's very good and it's given me a new appreciation for the Bible.
Fresh and engaging.......2007-03-06
I love this Bible! Other daily Bibles bogged me down, whether they went straight through or combined an old and new. I love the flexibility of this, and the fact that I don't have to start at January 1 and never miss a single day. I have read the Bible all the way through before, but reading it in The Message translation and with the pairings arranged by Mark Tabb, it has new life! Below someone mentioned that it is not a good study Bible, but that's because it's not a study Bible; rather, it is designed as a daily reading Bible. I recommend this especially for high school and college students or anyone wanting a fresh look at Scripture.
Hard to read.......2007-01-04
This version of the Message has NO verse numbers and it has Old Testament books alongside New Testament books. This is so the reader can read the entire Bible in one year BUT it makes it VERY hard to use as a study Bible!
L.T. Cooper.......2006-10-19
Clear, easy to follow the format of this bible. While not meant to replace my "regular" bible, Pause allows me to do these things:
-Read the daily passages like I'm reading a novel
-Ponder the questions at the end of the readings/ end of the week...
that compels me to re-read some passages, think about the meaning of the passage and how that applies to my life. Also makes me want to go back to my "regular" bible to check-out the passage... it makes me want to read the bible more!
A Fantastic Study Bible.......2006-08-27
THE MESSAGE: REMIX//PAUSE is amazingly easy to read, but you can still get the meaning from every verse. Peterson and Tabb have done a great job translating the Bible into contemporary language, and the result is something that I (as a teenager) actually look forward to reading. One of many cool features are marked-out sections to read if you're looking to go through it in one, two, or even four years. I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a fresh approach- a great buy!

compact and lightweight.......2007-03-13
Nice exterior, lightweight and very compact - my husband uses this bible for traveling. A refreshing translation.
Intentionally Altered Meanings.......2007-02-24
Several passages are paraphrased in a way that their meanings are totally off-base. For one example, look at Matthew 18:17.
Proper translations:
"...But if he refuses to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector." New King James Version
"...and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector." New International Version
The Message:
"...If he won't listen to the church, you'll have to start over from scratch, confront him with the need for repentance, and offer God's forgiving love."
In case you were wondering, Jesus' audience would have treated a heathen/pagan or a tax collector as an outcast/outsider or a traitor. I have no idea how Peterson came up with "start over...confront...and offer God's forgiving love". As a high school English teacher, I would not accept this as a proper paraphrase from my teenage students. It's actually quite pathetic, in my humble opinion.
excellent.......2007-01-15
Excellent service and excellent Bible. My 16 year old daughter loves it. The Bible was brand new with cool mustard-color-textured cover. It is, of course, not a translation, but a paraphrase. The point is to start reading. Thank you for great product and service.
Recommended for EVERYONE Interested in Going Deeper in Bible Study.......2006-05-21
Quick version:
This is a wonderful addition to anyone's Bible study, and works great for younger students who need help understanding and relating to the text as well as older readers who may enjoy a fresh perspective. The pocket edition in particular is great for someone looking for a travel size (who does not have vision problems).
Expanded coverage:
I cannot say enough about the Message in general, as I have found it to be a wonderful translation that really drives home the applicability of the Bible to our everyday lives, even today.
The Message//Remix is the same as the original Message, but with quick-reference verse numbers.
I should probably go ahead and put a disclaimer that I am not some crazed religious fanatic, but simply an average college kid that tries to follow Christ as best as I can. I know everyone clings to their opinions of translations, but this really is a great one to keep things real. Keep your NIV near by, but try this one as well.
As far as this particular version of the Message, the Mustard Pocket Edition (which, oddly, Amazon does not have clearly labeled - please note that this IS THE POCKET EDITION, and IS SMALLER than the "regular" Message), it is also a great buy.
The Amazon price is the most competitive I have seen while shopping around.
The size is great - it is much smaller than the original edition, meaning it fits in small spaces (purses, for instance) better. However, if you have trouble reading small print, the pocket edition may not be for you.
Also, according to the inside cover of my copy, there is a lifetime guarantee: "This Message//Remix is manufactured to serve you for a lifetime. If at any time the binding fails because of manufacturing defects or you just wear it out from use, you may return it for a free replacement. ... If the same binding is no longer available, your Bible will be replaced with one of the same or greater value."
That's commitment there.
Message//REMIX from a Youth Leader.......2005-08-29
I am a youth leader @ Threads Church in Kalamazoo, MI and I have found that the Message//REMIX is the best choice for the High School and Jr. High students to help them explore God's Words in a language that is actually understandable to them without carrying around a bible dictionary or a concordance. While I have many resources to use, I use the REMIX as my Bible as well.
Customer Reviews:
I highly recommend "The Message 2.0".......2007-10-10
"The Message" has been a tremendous help to me. While other translations have often been hard to get through, this book makes it hard to put down. As I am also reading the book, "Unveiled At Last" by Bob Sjogren which has Bible verses to reference, I have been using "The Message" to look them up in. Many times I not only look up the indicated verse, but end up reading much more of the Bible chapter. The 2.0 version does have the verses numbered. Also, I like the binding on this edition. The coated plastic-like cover makes it easy to study with, since it folds back easily without hurting the book.
A baby christian.......2007-09-05
I am not a student anymore, well, not in the practical sense. I am what my friends would call a baby christian though - my husband and I recently got baptised in May and God has changed our lives in amazing ways! With that said, I haven't ever read the bible cover to cover. Maybe most people don't read it that way - but I asked God to show me what bible to buy and he led me to this one. It's great for me, I can actually understand it without going to bible college. I like the translation and it is easy reading. I will go for the NIV version when I understand the bible more. I am plugged in at my church and will be getting "into the word" more as I grow in my faith. So, the moral of the story is, you don't have to be really young and a student to need a remix version of the bible. If you don't feel like you can sit down and read scripture cover to cover, then you can start with this. As a bonus, I like it that it's pink. I mostly like it that I am saved and God is working in my life. I wish I had a stronger relationsip with God when I WAS young, then I could have made better life decisions!
Love this bible!.......2007-06-21
This bible is amazing! I looked at it in a Barnes & Noble, but it was $40. I purchased it at Amazon for about $25. I am a senior in college and can really connect with and understand God's word using this bible. I recommend it to any young adult! Everyone thinks it looks really cool too!
The Message Remix.......2007-05-15
LaTonnya Peterson- I bought this bible for my mother on this mother's day. I like it compared to all the other Remix Bibles in Hypercolor because this one has the largest print. It was hard for me to decide because they all look so cool. I have a hard time reading the regular bible, so now I am going to purchase one for myself.
The perfect Translation.......2007-05-07
I bought this for my daughter because the NIV just wasn't working for her. She loves the translation and the product is well made.

With added verse-numbered paragraphs and new intros, this book will help a new generation read, think, pray, and live God's Word.

Bible in every day language.......2007-06-27
Wonderful interpretation of scriptures. Brought new insights to things I had read many times before. So glad to have it. The everyday language is great. Would suggest it for adults & kids. The Message Remix (Bible in Contemporary Language)
Awesome.......2007-05-03

The Bible in the original "voice" it was written in!.......2007-04-10
It might surprise many to know that the Bible originally didn't have chapters & verses. The remix includes chapters and verses which helps if you are used to having them, but it maintains it's fresh feeling. Peterson went back to the original Greek & Hebrew & translated the concepts into ideas that we can understand in this modern world. Reading the gospels in this format gives me a vivid picture of WHY the religious leaders were so angry at Jesus. He could be pretty harsh when the situation called for it. It also exposes His love in a deeper richer fashion.
If you have read the Bible so much it feels like a boring text book, or have never read it this would be my recommendation for a version to read.
Intentionally Altered Meanings.......2007-02-22
A pleasant change.......2007-02-10
As someone who has "heard the Bible stories" so many times, I have finally succumbed to "The Message" phenomenon. (I had initial misgivings - could this possible take the place of Bible reading on a daily basis?) Despite my original protests, I actually like it! It's made the Bible a new experience for me. Highly recommended.
Customer Reviews:
Best purchase I've ever made.......2007-06-29
I LOVE this book. I love the fact of it's simplicity, it is soooo easy to read. I love the fact that it lists the book and verse out to the side so you can still reference back to the KJV. I love how each chapter has a title, this makes it alot easier to refer back and find things. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Study Tools.......2006-05-22
As an avid Bible reader, I am constantly looking for tools or aids to help my studies along and gain more understanding into the scriptures. I'm happy to say that The Message Bible has adequately done so. Although I wouldn't preach out of it, I would definitely reference it for context and clarity. Working with youth, I find that this transliteration does make an impact with its listeners and readers. Once again, I wouldn't preach out of it because it has obvious self interpretations. That is not to say, however, that this still isn't a great tool to have in your study library. I definitely recommend!
worth the price.......2006-03-24
I have wanted to try this translation for some time now. It is just wonderful. I wouldn't use it for a study bible, but for my prayer time it is great, gives a fresh insight each time. I know enough theology to know when the translation differs from the theology of my own church I can just re-translate it [case in point Matthew 1:24-25]. Theology notwithstanding, it is a great buy.
The most insightful version of scripture i have ever read.......2006-03-20
I have always hated reading, and the format of most bibles puts me to sleep. THE MESSAGE REMIX talks like we do in plain modern day english. It has caused me to want to read the bible more and to get the most out of what I am reading.
The Message Remix.......2006-02-24
I was very pleased with the contents of the Message, it took a little getting used to, since I have read KJV for 50 years, but I purchased several for grandkids, etc. Want a copy for myself and miss them each time I gave one away, but I want one a little bigger in size, and bigger in print if possible. This one is smaller than a regular bible. I do like the introduction to each book, for those just beginning, it is just the thing.
Book Description
Have you ever leafed through a Bible and thought,
It’s got to be easier than this!
It is easier—lots easier—to understand. After all, if anyone knows how to communicate with you clearly, and wants to, it’s God. That’s why the Bible was originally written in everyday language—so everyone who read it could instantly grasp its meaning. And that’s why this Bible was created—to make God’s message once again instantly understandable.
Inside you’ll find
• Today’s New International Version (TNIV)—“Timeless truth. Today’s language.” That’s the heartbeat of the TNIV. Overcoming the language barriers for today’s readers, this translation puts the Bible into everyday words witn uncompromising accuracy. It’s the real deal: God’s Word, straight and to the point.
• The Message®//REMIX™—Created by Eugene Peterson for today’s reader, The Message reads as if God were sitting across from you, talking with you over a cup of coffee. And the REMIX restores verse references to The Message so you can quickly relate the place you’re reading to other Bibles if you want to.
This Bible includes The Message//REMIX’s book introductions, so you can start your reading of each book of the Bible with all the information you need to really know what it’s saying. The more time you spend in TNIV/The Message//REMIX Parallel Bible, the more you’ll be able to read, think, pray and live in the truth.

Not What I Thought.......2006-12-12
I purchased this for my mom for Christmas this year and it just arrived. First, I was saddened to find it isn't actually leather. If the cover was leather it would be one of the coolest looking bibles I've ever seen. But it's man made so it's going back for that alone. Second, I purchased this particular one because of it's size. I thought a larger bible would have larger font. Absolutely not. I'm 26 w/ perfect vision and I had a hard time reading the text because of the font size they chose. Other than the two problems above, I really like the side by side passages and the feel of the book.
TNIV/Message Remix is a great bible.......2006-11-07
I really like this Bible. I was hesitant to get it after reading other reviews complaining about the font size, but while the font is rather small, I do not have any vision problems so it hasn't bothered me at all. It's similar to the font that you get with the pocket-sized Bibles.
The Message Remix is the type of reference that you'd like to have handy, but don't want to use as your only resource, so I've found it very helpful to have alongside the TNIV, so I can read the TNIV and refer to the Message Remix whenever I want to get a fresh perspective on the text.
It is much bigger than the thin-line Bibles, but that's what you expect when you get two Bibles in one binding. Another thing to know is that there is no red text (customarily used to highlight the words of Jesus). This is more than compensated for by the Message Remix book introductions, which are a less than 1 page summary at the start of each book in the Bible describing the context in which that book was written and the general message. These introductions are probably my favorite part about this Bible, and make it something that would be very good as a gift to a new Christian or someone who is not a Christian.
Recently a friend of mine who is a new Christian commented how he was reading his TNIV and wondered why it made such a big deal about Jesus eating with "tax collectors". This example shows why this Bible is a great idea as a gift for people new to Christianity, because if he had had the Message Remix right next to the TNIV text, he could have looked over and seen that the Message version says "people of disreputable character", or something like that.
Great Bible, highly recommended for young readers (due to the font size, may not be good for older people or people with vision problems), people new to Christianity (because of the book introductions and the ability to use the Message Remix version to understand difficult texts), and people who have been Christian for a long time (because of the fresh perspective the Message Remix version gives you on the text you are reading!).
Well received gift.......2006-10-29
I purchased this book as a gift and it has been well received. I'd buy it again in spite of the many warnings contained in other reviews.
As previously mentioned, the type is small and that can be a problem for many people, but I did find the pages to be bright. The bright page allows for a good contrast and aids the reader when looking into the small print.
As to the cover... This particular cover is hardback which is mentioned in the description. The hardback cover is stout and has a refined almost creamy feel to it. I was impressed with it for the low price.
Lastly, as a parent of teenaged boy that likes the paraphrase of The Message, I am particularly happy to see the coupling of the paraphrase with a quality translation like the TNIV. With this tool, I expect my teen will be able to enjoy the paraphrase while measuring it against true translation sciences.
Overall, this is a great bargain on a high quality offering.
More a paraphrase than a translation.......2006-09-17
In my opinion the TNIV strays too far from the original manuscripts it is based on. It is more a paraphrase than a translation. I prefer the NKJV, NIV, or NASB to this.
It's awesome, but..........2006-08-10
I love the style of it. And i love the fact that it's two Bibles in one. The TNIV is an awesome translation, and the Message Bible helps you get a better understanding of things. But the pages are too delicate. They're not as thick as i'm used to. I feel like i'm about to rip a page when ever i turn one. The font size is a bit smaller than what i'm used to, but not that much smaller. It's still readable without any problems, for me. I give this Bible four stars because i don't like how delicate the pages are.
Customer Reviews:
Very easy to understand Bible!.......2007-09-26
This Bible is amazing. It is very sleek and a reasonable size (the same as a standard Bible) considering that it includes both the NIV and The Message. I enjoy being able to read the NIV and then the message for great clarity.
Loved It.......2007-08-10
This bible is very easy to use and it's just the right size. The two different texts are side by side making it easy to go from one version to the other. And it's also very stylish.
Compact Parallel TNIV / MSG Remix BIBLE.......2007-06-16
The dimensions of the Bible are 5.75" x 8.25" x 1.25". I was looking for a Message Parallel Bible that was COMPACT and had a very hard time finding one. I would have prefered a NASB/MSG version compact, but as far as I searched, I found none. That said, this is a nice little Bible. The cover is obviously synthetic, but still has a nice feel to it. The "pool blue" is a fairly bright hue. The closure is a hidden magnet. I usually tuck the flap closue into the back cover (when doing so, there is no magnet or snap visible from the front). Both the MSG portion and TNIV portion are numbered by verse. I would guess the font is somewhere around 8-9 pt (but I'm not exactly sure). The page edges are gilded silver and look very nice with the brown and blue cover. Corners for the cover and the pages are slightly rounded to accomodate daily use. The Bible has a single, built-in, pale blue ribon marker. You might be able to find more information from the publisher Zondervan. This Bible does NOT have: maps, presentation/family history page, words of Christ in red.
