"Judy can pat the bunny. Now YOU pat the bunny." Sound familiar? Pat the Bunny is a part of childhood, as soothing as cocoa and animal crackers. Dorothy Kunhardt's interactive book for babies and toddlers was one of the first of its kind when it was published in 1940, and it has since sold over six million copies. We pat the soft fur of the bunny, play peek-a-boo, look in the mirror, and then do it all over again. (And again and again and again.) After you Pat the Bunny with your baby, why not Pat the Cat and Pat the Dog? These two sequels were written by Edith Kunhardt, the daughter of the author of the original book. Both use the same tried-and-true Pat the Bunny format: sturdy cardboard pages with eight activities that wee ones can explore, from sniffing some brownies, to squeaking a teddy bear, to unfastening Grandma's tennis shoe. The simple line drawings and pastel colors don't do much for adults, but somehow they are just right for babies. This boxed set is a fine choice for a baby gift or first birthday present, and a lifesaver on a long car trip. (Baby to preschool) --Marcie Bovetz
Book Description
The original classic touch and feel book that has been entertaining babies for over 60 years.
Customer Reviews:
My 8-month old loves it!!.......2007-10-26
She loves the peek-a-boo and the "smell the flowers"... though she usually ends u licking the flowers more than smelling them :-) Great interactive book
EVERY BABY SHOULD HAVE THIS BOOK.......2007-10-19
I had this book for my two sons when they were babies. I recently bought this book for my Grandson, and he loves it as much as my sons did. This is absolutely the greatest book, and babies really love it. This book makes a good baby shower gift.
One of my baby's favorites!.......2007-10-16
At first my daughter was not very impressed with this book...the pictures aren't as compelling as in some of her other books. But as she's gotten older, the interactive details of this book have really made this one of her favorites. She talks and laughs at the characters for a good 20 minutes at a time. And anyone with an active 1 year old knows how impressive that is! Its sturdy design (double-folded cardboard pages) also make it fairly destroy-proof, though I'm sure there's a baby out there that will find a way!
There's a reason why this book has staying power..........2007-10-07
Before I owned this book, I never really understood its allure. It seemed like it wasn't really brightly colored enough to hold my daughter's interest. Boy was I wrong! She has loved this book from the time she was about 8 months old. She's now almost 2 and it's still one of her favorites. She especially loves the little hole representing the mummy's ring and always wants to put her finger in my ring too. The one problem with the book is that it's not at all sturdy...but then again, it is quite well loved.
Pat the Bunny Review.......2007-09-30
I thought this would have been a great book for my infant/toddler, but was very disappointed because it is not a sturdy board book. Instead, it is a regular paper back book with slightly thicker pages. This book requires extra gentle care and is not good for children at a stage where they want to touch and feel the book, as the title suggests.

Customer Reviews:
Great Purchase.......2007-07-29
This book is adorable and well made. The kids love it and so do I.
Everyone loved it.......2007-01-24
We bought this as a Christmas gift for our 10-month-old great grandson and there wasn't an adult in the family who didn't read it, play with it and love it! What a wonderful little book. I know our g-grandson will come to love it too. The perfect little starter book!
Kinda Bummed..........2006-03-10
My son LOVES his Pat the Bunny book, so I bought this one for him so he could keep it in his crib with him. I'm bummed because they are only 2 pages that are truely interactive, and the story itself was sort of lacking... He doesn't even seem interested in it... I'm still hopeful that he'll get interested and I didn't waste my money...
Lots of fun!.......2005-04-20
We received this book as a gift for my son. I had Pat the Bunny as a kid, but I'd never seen such a cool cloth book; we've been showing it to visitors when they come over. It's very entertaining to hop the bunny through the scenes, and I know we'll have lots of fun with the book in the future. What a great way to get kids (and the adults they read with) involved in the story!
The scenes are charming, and the concept combines storytime (and bedtime, since the sleepy bunny is getting ready for bed) with playtime. I'm very excited that people are thinking outside the box as they create products for children.
a safe and soft book.......2003-12-18
I PURCHASED THIS BOOK FOR MY 8 MONTH OLD AND HE LOVES IT! ALTHOUGH HE CANNOT READ YET OBVIOUSLY, HE LOVES TO CHEW ON THIS BOOK SINCE HE IS TEETHING. HE LOVES THE LITTLE BUNNY BECAUSE HE CAN HOLD IT IN HIS HAND AND IT IS ATTACHED TO THE BOOK. THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARE ON THIS ARE NOT TRUE. IT SAYS THAT IT IS NOT MACHINE WASHABLE AND I THREW IT IN THE WASHER AND IT WAS JUST FINE AS LONG AS IT IS A DELICATE CYCLE. OTHER THAN THAT IT IS SAFE AND SOFT AND MY CHILD LOVES IT.

A Keepsake!.......2004-12-16
This was one of my granddaughters first books. She loved this book and would walk around with it in her hands. She found great job in lifting up things to see what was under them, like the new puppies under the yellow cloth and to feel the wool of the sheep. This book has brought her hours upon hours of joy, and although she is 5 years old now, she will not part with it.
Highly recommended.
[...]
Not as good as the other "Pat the.." books, but..........2002-01-01
This is not as fun as the other "Pat the.." books, but my daughter still loves it! These have been her favorite books for months now (she is currently 20 months).
Lamest of the "Pat the ..." series.......2001-06-12
We have "Pat the Bunny", "Pat the Cat", "Pat the Puppy" and this book, "Pat the Pony". It is the worst of the four and the one our child doesn't take from the shelf.
Jack and Jemma visit Jack's aunt and uncle on the farm; first they pat the pony. Okay so far. Then they put on boots. The "interactive" part here consists of touching the smooth boot, which feels exactly like the page. Not only is this bad device used, but it crops up again when you can feel a glass of lemonade. Weak. The scratch and sniff rose, woolly sheep and a blanket that lifts to reveal a basket of puppies are fine. Finally, the tabs are flimsy, and needless to say they are already ripped out of our book -- a wheel that turns, ducks that float, and milk that spills -- or used to.
This is a fun little series, but you would be better off getting "Pat the Bunny" or "Pat the Cat", the two best in our experience.
Pat the Pony.......2000-05-02
My daughter (age 3) absolutely loves this book! She has evenmemorized it! It's a wonderful book for children learning to read. It's very descriptive and also a fun way to interact with your child.Your child will enjoy the "touch and feel" aspect of this book. They will also gain new friends by the end of the book. I highly recommend this book for your child or even as gift for any child! This is a book that children will love and remember as part of their childhood!

Truly a classic.......2000-11-14
Unless someone has changed the inside of this book, it is the same I had when I was very small, 60 years ago. It may well have been one of the first interactive books for toddlers. It has a mirror to look in, Daddy's scratchy face to feel, the bunny to pat, and I've forgotten what else. I would hate to even guess how many times our copy of that book was read. It lasted through us three girls and I was amazed to find it still mostly intact when I went home to visit, as an adult.

Big Plus for Sleepless Toddlers.......2005-10-06
The Pat the Bunny night light book is great for my son who has always been a 24 hour non-stop kid. He chooses it as his favorite and we read it together in the dark. When I leave the room, he can still look at the pictures while settling himself to sleep. The light stays on only long enough to read one page. After 2 years of fighting to go to bed, he actually looks forward to night time now.
Pat the Bunny Night Light.......2000-06-25
A little bit of magic glows when the light is on.A warm touch to the babies room when you enter and brings back fond memories of my own childhood.

Another Biscuit of Bountiful Fun for Sam and Mom!.......2004-03-17
Two-and-a-half year old Sam is a big Biscuit fan.... and this one is another hit. The few words on each page, the "lots of stuff to point to"... we learn colors by talking about (and pointing to) the purple sneakers and Biscuits collar is what color? Who says "Woof Woof?" is it the Bunny or the Girl or... YES! It's Biscuit!
The board book quality is high - somehow we got something sticky on it and it wiped right off. Also, the size of this book is also favorable with Sam. He oftentimes carries the book around with him and it fits really well under his arm. There was an earlier Biscuit book that was smaller - the "What is Love, Biscuit?" and this one that are a better "old toddler" size.
You will both enjoy this one no matter how many times you read it.

The perfect Christmas gift for pat the bunny fans! Children and parents will love all the touch-and-feel elements in this ultra-adorable Christmas story.
Customer Reviews:
Durable premise, Non-durable format.......2005-12-28
The idea behind the book is great, engage the child's tactile senses while progressing through a Christmas scenario: pat the bunny, write a list for Santa, smell the peppermint candy cane, pull the tobaggen etc. However, the actual physical construction of the book is so poor as to make many of the activities impossible to execute. The pencil does not write (it is only a paper facsimile), there has never been a scent retained for the peppermint candy cane, movable pieces come too easily detached (girl's arm that puts the star on the Christmas tree, the tobaggen) and the the binding is weak. I would recommend this book only for collector's of the series, but not for actual usage with a child.
A luke warm adaptation--not as good as it could be..........2000-12-20
First let me say that I am a Pat the Bunny fan. We bought Pat the Christmas Bunny for our daughter last Christmas because she liked the regular Pat the Bunny book so well. Unfortunately, after two Christmas seasons, I've concluded that this book lacks the charm of the original-- she never reaches for it and frequently loses interest in the middle of a reading.
One point of criticism is that the interactive activities are not very engaging. As with the original, there is a page to pet Pat the bunny, who is wearing a holiday scarf, but surely they could shake things up a bit and be more inventive. Other activities include a paper pencil to write a Christmas list, a tobogan to pull, a page where you lift Judy's arm to put the star on the tree, and a candy cane to sniff, but my daughter doesn't seem to care much about any of them. Another criticism of this book is that it is not especially durable, in particular for a book that markets itself to younger children. I have to closely monitor her so that she doesn't rip the tobogan off its track.
Simply put, Pat the bunny deserves a better Christmas adaptation...one that retains the charm of the original. If you are a Pat fan, you'll still want to have this in your Christmas collection, but there are better interactive Christmas books out there that I would buy first. For example, check out David Carter's two Christmas books.
