Karen Katz whips together another fun, colorful lift-the-flap adventure, in the form of a wee home-improvement project between a father and child.
Displaying the same cheerful delivery and bright artwork that Katz used in Where Is Baby's Belly Button? and Toes, Ears, and Nose!, Daddy and Me tells its tale with a simple setup and sturdy flaps to lift on each two-page spread: "I'm helping Dad make something special. First we saw the wood. Where is Daddy's saw?" Two easy-to-grab flaps open to reveal that Daddy's saw is "In the... closet." Pencils, nails, screwdrivers, and a paintbrush are likewise hiding out around the shop, and it's up to Daddy's cherubic, gender-indeterminate little helper to track them down--with some help from the reader, of course, lifting up work gloves, a tool box lid, some paint cans, and a newspaper.
We finally find out what project Daddy had planned (which also explains why a cute chestnut puppy has been helping the helper all along): "At last we are finished. We made a doghouse for Henry! But where is Henry?" Readers get to lift one more flap to find out. (Baby to preschool) --Paul Hughes
Book Description
Daddy is making a special project. Help him find the tools he needs by looking under the oversized flaps. Working with Daddy is so much fun!
Customer Reviews:
Great book!.......2007-08-27
My son and my husband love this book. The flaps are easy to lift and the story is easy to understand. Highly recommend it!
Cute book.......2007-07-15
Ordered this book because we have similar ones from the same author/theme.
It was cute but I was a little disappointed how the daddy was building something...not all dads are like that & a dad is certainly not going to teach a little girl that (in most cases). The 'Grandpa & Me' book has them making pizza which is much cuter than the 'Daddy & Me'. Obviously not Amazon's fault...the book was prompt & nice.
Very Cute.......2007-07-10
Great book for father's to read to their children...especially if they work with tools. My daughter loves it.
Never met a baby who doesn't respond to Karen Katz.......2007-04-04
My children loved all of Karen Katz's books when they were infants and continue to enjoy them even now at 2 and 4. At the advice of my pediatrician, I read to my children from day 1. These books were a great tool to interest my children in reading at a young age. I give Karen Katz books to all of my friends as a gift when they have a baby and I have been told their children all love them too.
Great for dad and toddler!.......2007-03-17
We are very happy with this book. Although it is a little bit stereotyped, it has been great when dad and son are home together. We have other books from this author and collection and really enjoy them. It is a nice addition to our learning collection.
Book Description
Football, toy trains, Erector sets . . . most fathers can relate to having a son. But what's a dad to do when he's invited for imaginary tea? Robert Wolgemuth's She Calls Me Daddy relates all the wonderful times that are waiting to be had for fathers with some special little ladies-their daughters. Focusing on seven things every man should know about raising a girl, it concentrates on specific areas of growth to reveal what a father can do to ensure she becomes the woman God wants her to be.
Customer Reviews:
great book.......2007-08-15
this book has some great info for all dads. also some good stories on how he learned from his mistakes as a dad. a must read for new fathers.
Dads will understand this!.......2007-06-08
First let me say that I really intended to give 4.5 stars. It's an excellent book and I'm a better dad for having read it. It's a fast read (I read it in a day) and holds the attention of even dads who don't normally read "self-help" type books. Wolgemuth (author) is a man writing to men so it's not filled with warm fuzzy platitudes often seen in these types of books. (Men, you know what I mean!) He's one of us!
Of particular help is the point summary at the end of each chapter. This enables one to refer back to a given chapter and get the gist of the matter without having to re-read the entire book. It's an excellent memory-jogger and I wish every book of this genre had this. Great idea! It's almost like a checklist.
At times, it seems to delve into the common sense stuff a little too long (that's where he lost the half star) but most of it is excellent. Even when Wolgemuth is belaboring a point obvious to most dads of daughters, he still offers some kind of tip or activity to do related to that subject that you may not have thought of but sounds good.
Kudos to Wolgemuth for tackling subjects us dads are afraid of like physically touching your daughter. He deals with the subject forthrightly and delineates the appropriate and inappropriate. Another great inclusion is the chapter on blended families, single-dads, and long-distance dads. Some of his best insight is on the subject of dating and dealing with your daughters' friends and that worthless bum who seems to feel worthy to date your daughter. (OK, that last part is my phrasing, not his.) That part alone makes the entire book worth reading.
The book, as I mentioned, is a fast read; almost too fast. I would have liked him to go into more depth on a few things as it seems to me that he knows his stuff.
Bottom line: Dads will enjoy and understand this book. You will better protect your daughter and raise her to be a great woman with these principles.
Excellent, but...........2007-06-03
6/'07: I have an 11 yo daughter. I thought this book was wonderful, however, I wish I'd gotten it several years ago. There is plenty of advice I would have enjoyed reading about and applying when she was younger. But, there is also plenty as well for now and as she gets older. It is never too late to start where you are! I think it is excellent for new fathers; start'em off right! I plan to purch. several and donate to the local public library, hospital library, etc.
If you have a daughter, buy this book.......2007-04-04
I have a son on the way, but before we knew the gender, a mentor recommended this book on raising girls. Just reading about Wolgemuth's experiences with his daughters made me want a little girl of my own. He gives great real world practical advice and has tons of good ideas that can be immediately applied in your life. It is very well written with a personal tone that spoke straight to my heart. I highly recommend it to anyone raising a daughter.
Dads - you play a critical role in building a godly young woman!.......2007-03-15
I am blessed to be the father of a precious little girl. I am also blessed to be married to a wonderful woman that will model for my daughter what it means to be a godly woman. But, as a father, I still hold a very important position in the life of my daughter and this book is a great reminder and encouragement for fathers of little girls.
Wolgemuth focuses on seven major themes: protection, conversation, affection, discipline, laughter, faith, and conduct. I really enjoyed his emphasis on conversation, a quality that most men struggle with but is vital to the relationship between a father and daughter. Wolgemuth gives tons of practical advice for dads and the book is filled with examples of not only what to do, but what not to do from the lessons learned by Wolgemuth's own life raising two daughters.
There is something special and unique about the daddy-daughter relationship, and this book is a great reminder of that. It is easy-to-read, simple, grounded in biblical principles and serious about the responsibility of raising a godly young woman; yet it is written with grace and humor and lots of encouraging words as well. One of my favorite verses comes from Psalm 144 where a young lady is described as a pillar carved to adorn a palace - this book will help every father build a better daughter!

Nice little book set, some issues with flaps........2007-10-18
This is a very cute little box set. My daughter has always enjoyed books by Karen Katz. I love the interactive aspect of it. However, as is the case with all Karen Katz's books, the flaps come off way too easily when a child pulls on them slightly. I have to use clear tape to attach the flaps back where they belong in all of the books. We already had to buy 3 replacements for the books my daughter enjoys the most. Perhaps it's the publisher's way to ensure constant demand. I found these books at local TJMaxx and Marshall's for $2-$4.
A Must-Have for Interactive Reading.......2007-09-20
These books are a must-have for all babies! The artwork is adorably colorful, and the interactivity of the flaps makes reading more fun; it gives baby something to do while you read.
Great books.......2007-05-25
Our daughter fell in love with these books around 6 or 7 monhts and still gets excited and selects them over others at 14 months. She has learned so much through them too! We have many of Katz board books with the flaps, and are so happy the author is so prolific. Our daughter likes them all, but the 4 here are her favorites (and "What Does Baby Say?"). Keep them coming!
Great for the family.......2007-05-21
These books are a great way for everyone in the family to feel appreciated and loved. They make the reader (grandmother for example) feel even more special. I love them.
They're also sturdy enough for my 9 month old to play with and chew on. These aren't his favorite books (that's Violet's House) but they're still great.
And I love that it's cheaper to buy the set than it is to buy the books individually! :) I love book sets.
karen katz books.......2007-03-21
My daughter is 14 months old and she LOVES these flap books. She has many books, but these are her absolute favorite. We have several sets in fact. I carry them with us in the diaper bag...there are some in the car...at Grandma's house....she never gets bored with them. We read them several times a day!!!
Book Description
My daddy's going to work, far away in Africa -- without me.
What does a little boy do when his daddy is going away for a long time? He promises to save one thing every day to show his daddy when he returns; to say, "Good night, Daddy" every night before he goes to sleep; and to mark off each day on the calendar until his daddy's return. If he still misses his daddy, then he remembers all the things his daddy promised to do, and he knows that even though they're very far apart, they're still close in each other's heart.
With soft, tender illustrations and poetic text, this poignant and heartwarming story shows that the love between a father and child can span any distance.

Planning for separation.......2005-10-04
My husband is in the Navy and we bought this book to read to our children as he prepares to leave for 14 months. It is very good at explaining that Daddy will always love his kids, even when he is gone. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it only deals with 1 month and a business trip. It differs from our situation, but overall it is a very good book.
Absolutely Wonderful!!.......2004-09-29
My husband is in the military and I bought this book for my 4 and 2 year old before he deployed. This book was an extreme comfort to my 4 yr. old. I read it to her when she had a hard time dealing with my husbands deployment. It became a nightly ritual while he was gone. If your spouse is in the military, this is a must. It really hits home with the feelings and it also talked about daddies feelings too. We used the idea of saving things to show daddy and my daughter loved it.
Perfect for daddies in the military.......2003-01-11
My husband is in the military and I found this book when we found out he was going to Kuwait for six months. The message is beautiful and my husband and I cried together while reading it. Since my daughter is only 9 mos. old we wanted a way for her to think of her Dad every day. Each night we look at his photo and read this book. It's a special way for me to let her know that her daddy loves her and that he's coming home soon. This book is perfect for any family in a similar situation.
Eases a child's fear.......2001-10-18
My son and I read this book almost every night when his daddy was traveling for weeks at a time. It was a very difficult time. I think that my son could relate to the little boy in the story on how much he missed his daddy. When a young boy is away from his father for a long period of time, he begins to wonder if his daddy still loves him and misses him. This book helps to ease those fears and that it is all going to be "ok". We are giving this book to two little boys that are my son's friends who are losing their daddy for 8 months while he fights this "War on Terrorism" with the Army in Egypt. We think that maybe this book will help them to come up with their own rituals while their daddy is gone and maybe help to ease their fears.
Wonderful Father's Day story. This is for all fathers........1999-03-20
This is the kind of thing that's going to be read on Father's Day for a long time. A sweet story of a boy and his father and how difficult their separation is when dad has to go on a trip. I loved it.
Customer Reviews:
Me Book!.......2007-02-28
My son loves this book so much! He calls it the "Me Book." We bought it when my son went through a phase of only wanting Mommy and this was his special book to read with Daddy. He loves the pictures of the bears and all the things the daddy and baby bear do together. It's really cute listening to him and his daddy read this!
Not As Good As "Mommy Loves Me".......2007-01-07
I don't think this book is as great as it's companion, "Mommy Loves Me," but my opinion is based on my real life. Whereas "Mommy Loves Me" covered the types of things I do with my child, "Daddy Loves Me" doesn't cover things my husband typically does with our child. This book has daddy making handmade cards with the baby, planting flowers, buying the baby fruit as a treat, and taking the child to the toy store...but not to buy toys...among other things.
My son loves this book.......2006-01-28
I bought this book along with "Mommy loves me" and my son loves both books. He will only read it with either my husband or myself. He will not read it with his grandparents. He has learned to say "Daddy loves me" "Cuddle up and read together". He has learned to spell Daddy and always to say "Cause daddy loves me". This is a great book for my 3 year old. I would buy this and "Mommy loves me" for others as a gift.

Daddy, Do You Love Me?.......2006-12-26
A conscience-thumping examination of how our actions, or inactions, with our daughters sway their psychological pendulums throughout life. This work should be required reading for all dads, from first-timers to great-great-granddads. Excellent reading for any parent, or mature child for that matter, because the expressed views and experiences transcend dads and daughters--they apply to all relationships. Duncan James. 12/06.

Let Go Of Me! You're Not My Daddy! Tells the story of a young girl who wanders away from her mother in a mall and finds herself being pulled along by the hand by a man she doesn't know. Instead of going quietly, Molly yells "Let Go Of Me! You're Not My Daddy!" at the top of her lungs. She pulls back as much as she can, kicks him in the leg and even bites his hand. She keeps shouting for him to let go, that he isn't her daddy and because she doesn't give up people notice that there is something wrong and walk toward her to help. The story has a happy ending and Molly learns a lesson that she will not forget. This story and its colorful illustrations will teach a young girl or boy what to do in a similar situation.

Real sounding words and true pictures make this book a find........1999-10-28
Rich in word and imaginary true to many African American families, this book feels like a peek in the window of homes I know. My husband calls our sons "man." "Sister" is what we call the oldest of my sisters. I love watching my boys play in Daddy's shoes. Everything a good children's book on families should be--real sounding words and true pictures that make a connection to someone's life.
Every child will love read this book or being read to.......1998-10-24
I find this book for all age groups. It makes you feel that you are there watching this child.

Customer Reviews:
Too advanced for my 15 month old.......2006-12-01
This book is very nice, however it is too long and too involved for my 15 month old's attention span, he loses interest almost immediately and has never asked us to read it to him. I think it would be great for an older child expecting a sibling.
Excellent way to prepare a younger child for new baby........1999-12-22
This book is great at giving the important details for a small child and leaving the rest open to each individual families differences. The child waiting for a baby could be a boy or a girl and same with the new baby. I especially liked the page with the mother nursing, it was realistic, but appropriate. We had the book memorized and it helped our child know what to expect.
An excellent book for the toddler expecting a sibling........1999-02-10
This is the perfect book for the young child who is expecting a new brother or sister. The lyrical rhymes and lovely, realistic drawings delight, entertain, and help explain what it will be like when that new person arrives. Written from the perspective of a toddler, the book hits all the right notes.

Sentimental.......2007-07-03
This is a great book for a very sentimental Dad of a little girl (no matter what age of his little girl).
Heartwarming and delightful!.......2006-06-20
Reviewed by GeorgeAnne Smith for Reader Views (6/06)
This little gem of a book, "Daddy Will You Dance With Me?," was one of the most delightful, sentimental, and heartwarming books I've read in quite some time. Short in length, but long on message, the author, Sandra Schoger Foster, not only relates, but shows the reader just how special the relationship can be between a girl and her father.
Sandra begins the story when this precious girl was just a young child, and continues through adolescence, on to adulthood. Through a few pleasant twists and turns, we watch the bond between father and daughter grow ever stronger over the years. Without giving away any secrets to the story middle or ending, I'll just mention that this sweet saga survives into the next generation.
Beautifully written and illustrated with talent and attention to detail, "Daddy, Will You Dance With Me?," will make a lovely gift to your father, or a wonderfully appropriate keepsake for anyone you know who wishes to create memories with their own fathers. My father passed on four years ago, but when I read this book, memories flooded back to me of my special relationship with him. Whether a gift for Father's Day, birthdays, or stocking stuffer, make sure to put this book on your shopping list for that special someone. I guarantee it will put a smile on their faces when they read it; I know it did mine.
Father's Day Gift.......2006-06-02
Daddy, Will You Dance With Me? by Sandra Schoger Foster celebrates special moments between fathers and daughters throughout all stages of life. It is a beautiful little gift book, perfect for Father's Day or any special occasion you want to impart love to someone who may have everything.
Daddy Will You Dance With Me?.......2006-01-11
Because I know the author, she has shared the book even though it is not yet in the bookstores. It captures the feelings of a young girl perfectly and tenderly and accurately describes the love shared by a daddy and his young daughter. Definitely one I will buy for each of my children to have in their home libraries for my grandchildren to enjoy.
