Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse........2007-09-23
Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse. Has all the details to help you start or clean-up an operation and help it run like a well oiled machine.
This is a must...........2006-10-30
This book is a must for ANY professional working in the finished-goods/products Fulfillment/Distribution world. If your work and responsibilities span anywhere within a FC/DC, you should pick up this book. For less than one hundred bucks, you get one of the best written, concise handbooks I have ever encountered.
It's very important to note that this is not just a dictionary-like handbook, but rather a book that is actually easily readble and enjoyable. It is not for novices, but for anyone with some level of experience, the book comes to life and will help you build depth.
I work for a major e-retailer that disbributes products to end customers. Having worked many years here and picking up most of the know-how from experience alone, I am now questioning why our learning dept doesn't have the insight to make this book a "required" manual for all when we first started. It is excellent and provides great explanations and applications .
Buy it. If I ran a DC/FC, this is a must read for all my mgrs and jr mgrs.
Great warehousing and material handling book.......2003-05-03
This is the best book I've ever found on material handling and warehouse storage. Though a little pricey, this book has content that makes it well worth the cost. Extensive detail on material handling and storage equipment. Also has separate chapters dedicated to small item warehouses, case-pick warehouses, and pallet warehouses.
Anyone designing a new warehouse or redesigning an existing one should read this book.

Customer Reviews:
Great book with rare insight.......2006-04-20
The chapter on level 2 alone is worth the price of the book. Yes the markets have changed and will continue to change, but you can always apply the general principles. Example: accumulation is accumulation regardless of what the market conditions are. Chris points out how to spot accumulation on level 2 and T&S, and if you grasp the idea, you should be able to spot them in any market with the tools available.
Very useful, if somewhat out of date..........2002-02-17
There is much useful material, along with a thoughtful approach to creating a daytrading discipline, in this book. I don't fully agree with (and wouldn't expect to) all of Lewis' statements, and, as you might expect, given the changes in the trading environment over the last couple of years, many of his methods and observations are arguably already out of date, but others still apply, and his overall philosophy, perspective, and attitude are probably more important, in my opinion, than the particulars of his personal approach as practiced in and around late 2000. The text includes numerous clear, concrete, and detailed examples, though you may have to look past an L2 screen with a stack of QCOM buyers at 343 13/16 (I just never get over mania-market prices) to receive the message.
SOMEONE SUCCESSFULL WITH THE SAME INTERESTS AS US FINALLY TA.......2001-09-08
SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL WITH THE SAME INTEREST AS OURS REVEALS TO US HIS SYSTEM. CLEAR, THRUTFUL AND CONCISE. THIS BOOK WAS THE ULTIMATE REVELATION FOR ME. GOT ALL MY IDEAS CLEAR ON MY OWN APPROACH AND PERMIT ME, COMBINED WITH DIFFERENT MOMENTUM CONCEPTION TO GAIN MASTERY IN TRADING. MY DREAM HAS BECOME REALITY AFTER 10 MONTHS.
THANK YOU A LOT Mr. LEWIS for your GENEROSITY AND plain english FOR TREATING SUCH COMPLEX MATTERS.

These strategies don't work.......2001-05-24
I lost money using these strategies. Buy Steve Nison book if you want a good book on TA. This one just doesn't measure up.
All in all, a rather decent book.......2000-11-16
The good points: first, the book's emphasis is on trading the open, offering a straight forward strategy for playing momentum type gaps. Second, the book has a thorough review of TA basics filtered by practical and experienced advice. Third, there were several odds and ends (like NASDAQ having two data feeds, do the S&P Futures really say anything, etc) that were indeed helpful.
The not so good points: while, its all there, you have to really read the text carefully to extract what you need - meaning it could have been better organized for flow in some chapters. Second, a week in the life "Trading Week" would have been more satisfying if it had been two weeks long and not one (the author might disagree).
All in all, a rather decent book that I value for its level-headed, lets stick to the basics, here's what really works kind of thinking.

Book Description
This excellent book offers a discussion of e-business, e-process and e-commerce design, from the standpoint of business adaptability and durability. It defines and maps their complex interrelationships, as well as providing guidance on conducting e-projects.
Written from the standpoint of business adaptability and durability, this unique resource offers proven principles for successful e-business, e-process, and e-commerce initiatives, applications and projects. Marca shares with us the principles that have most helped his customers create substantial value, return-on-investment, and end-customer benefits.
This guidebook provides unique insights for using the Internet to dramatically improve business processes and complex supply chains. It shows process engineers how to translate business processes into Web pages and then link those Web pages to e-commerce applications. It also gives software designers proven methods for developing e-business and e-commerce applications. And it provides project managers with valuable heuristics for realizing successful e-business and e-commerce initiatives.
David Marca is a Lead Faculty member at the University of Phoenix, Greater Boston Campus, where he teaches Business and Technology Management courses. He is a highly regarded authority and instructor in the field of e-business. In this book, Marca views the Internet as a process medium, and by taking this view he lets us see how the Internet enables a business to readily adapt to changing forces. Marca leverages the concept of open systems to develop the concept of open processes, which provides a conceptual framework to describe the structure of a business. This allows an e-business owner to describe how the company operates in terms of building blocks which support adaptable and optimized Internet-based solutions.
A comprehensive and accessible guide that brings together concept, architecture, technology, and implementation in real-world terms, Open Process Frameworks is a cutting-edge resource for today's e-business and its underpinnings.

Book Description
Get an inside look at how successful businesses build their e-business architectures. In this book, four IBM e-business experts capture years of experience into easy-to-follow guidelines. Deliberately focusing on Business patterns, Integration patterns, and Application patterns, the authors share with you proven architectural patterns that can help get you up and running quickly, while at the same time reducing your risks. Because today's economy demands that e-business initiatives emphasize profitability and return on investment, the authors also offer guidance on methods to minimize cost, yet ensure quality.
Many e-business applications and initiatives fail because of the lack of a comprehensive look at e-business architectures. For example, the recent crashes of many e-business applications costing millions of dollars could have been avoided if all aspects of operational issues had been addressed properly. This book offers a blueprint for avoiding such mistakes and for achieving success in the new digital economy. It also includes case studies, examples, references, and pointers to other materials.
Customer Reviews:
A great way to establish your software architecture practice.......2003-05-06
I work for a company that builds and extends enterprise applications for other companies. This book has really helped get our architecture practice in order.
The best thing about this book is that it gives a methodology for designing an architecture based upon business requirements. This transition from the problem space (needs, features, requirements, etc.) to the solution space (architecture, design, tools, etc.) is glossed over or non-existant in most patterns books as they are oriented on starting at the architecture level (or lower) instead of the business requirements.
We have found this methodology very useful for reducing project risk because we are building upon proven patterns and it has proven very useful for developing quick and concise proposals that demonstrate to our clients that we listened, understood, and have a roadmap for building their solution.
Although the IBM e-business patterns website offers much more information than this book (and it's free), the book is a great asset because it steps you through the high levels of the methodology in a more approachable way.
Patterns from Systems to Applications.......2002-03-19
The patience and persistence of the authors has resulted in a text that should soon be recognized as a work of a higher order than the classic "Design Patterns - Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software" by Gamma, et al. Higher order here indicates a higher position in the design process.
The two works address different areas of the pattern domain, but, by addressing business leaders and solution designers, Adam's "Patterns for e-business" will have the effect of helping drive the use of patterns at all levels of the software construction ptocess.
The pattern classifications, and the clear indication of business and IT drivers are excellent. No matter what your role, reading this work will make you a better participant in the systems design and construction process.
The authors take the time to recommend, based on your role, which chapters to read, and it which order. My suggestion -- read them all, front to back.
As someone who loves learning, I was especially drawn to the Composite patterns and discussions regarding the use of packages to provide the implementation of many parts of some patterns.
Prior to the publication of this work, I attended Mr. Adams presentation on patterns and later used the Patterns Development Kit (PDK) that supports the patterns. The session was great, I felt more of an architect/designer and builder than on any project or engagement.
The authors have made a great contribution to systems development by cataloging years of knowledge in a way that helps practitioners make sound design decisions.
Adams, Gamma, and Booch/Rumbaugh are names to remember.

Enterprise Architecture.......2002-02-25
This is a highly readable book with a much needed holistic view of e-business.
Anyone who has, or is, establishing enterprise architectural standards ought to consider this approach to layering assets i.e patterns.
The book introduces a real insight into reuse! I have read "Objects, Components and Frameworks with UML" (The Catalysis Approach) by Desmond D'Souza/Alan Wills and "Software Reuse" by Ivar Jacobson/Martin Griss/Patrik Jonsson. I struggled with both these books to abstract the basic concepts of software reuse. "Patterns for e-business" helped enormously.
If, like me, time is at a premium but you really need to understand a strategy for reuse...then read this book!

Book Description
Architects of the Business Revolution is a journey through the remarkable new territory of e-business and the new economy. Dearlove and Coomber identify the entrepreneurs, radicals and thinkers who have made the greatest contribution to this new world. From wunderkinds like Marc Andreessen and Sabheer Bhatia and rocket scientists like Tim Berners-Lee and Vinton Cerf to visionaries like Don Tapscott and Esther Dyson and business engineers like Scott McNealy and Jim Clark, these are the guys and girls you have to know about. Beyond the individuals themselves, Dearlove and Coomber take ideas into action and offer practical guidance drawn from these pioneers.
Customer Reviews:
Insightful!.......2001-02-23
Authors Des Dearlove and Stephen Coomber present capsule biographies of 50 individuals who have played a major role in the spread of e-business. Besides providing some background on each person, these bios highlight their major contributions as individuals or through their companies. While many names and stories are familiar - Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates - others are less so, such as the developers of Google and Real Networks. The bios mix high-tech contributors, entrepreneurs and journalists covering the e-business revolution. Though the book has a brief introduction, it suffers from its alphabetical listing of the contributors, which presents the bios out of context. We at getAbstract.com say this book "coulda been a contender" if it grouped its bios in chronological order or by field, and offered introductions to local sections of that nature. Still, it's a useful encyclopedia of the selected individuals and a valuable e-resource.
