Book Description
The Structured Credit Handbook is a comprehensive introduction to all types of credit-linked financial instruments. This book provides state-of-the-art primers on single tranche collateralized debt obligations (CDOs), collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), credit derivatives (such as credit default swaps and swaptions), and iBoxx indexes. Filled with in-depth insight and expert advice, The Structured Credit Handbook covers all aspects of the synthetic arbitrage CDO market, including new instruments such as CDO2. Readers will also gain a firm understanding of the investment rationale, risks, and rewards associated with CDO investments through this valuable resource.
The exploding use of credit derivatives and collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) has transformed the world of credit, creating an $18 trillion market almost overnight and resulting in innumerable investment and career opportunities globally. The Structured Credit Handbook provides the reader with a comprehensive and clear roadmap to today's new credit landscape. The full spectrum of structured credit products, from single-name CDS to CDOs, is explained in a simple, clear fashion that is free from the financial jargon and mathematical complexity which characterize many other derivative texts. The handbook begins with an in-depth explanation of the building blocks of the structured credit markets, single-name default swaps and indexes, and it culminates with complex products such as credit options, synthetic tranches, CDOs based on bank loans and asset-backed securities, and CDO-squareds.
Written by experienced practitioners who have participated in this market since its infancy, each of the thirteen chapters introduces and analyzes a new product and explains its practical applications. A rich set of real-life case studies illustrate the application of each product in a concrete market setting. The book may be used in a semester-long course on structured credit as part of a business or finance curriculum. Whether you are a market professional, a university student or faculty member, or simply a financially savvy layperson, look no further for an up-to-date and thorough introduction to this rapidly growing and exciting field.
Dr. Arvind Rajan, Managing Director, Citigroup Global Markets, is engaged in proprietary trading of Structured Credit products, and until recently, was global head of Structured Credit Research and Strategy at Citigroup. Glen McDermott (New York, NY) is Director of Fixed Income Sales and the former head of CDO Research at Citigroup Global Markets Inc. Ratul Roy is head of CDO Strategy for Citigroup Global Markets and has spent the prior nine years in structuring or analyzing CDOs and other structured credit products.
Customer Reviews:
A very helpful handbook for those interested in this rather specialized topic.......2007-03-13
You may have heard of swaps, swaptions, collateralized debt obligations, and a myriad other credit structures. For most folks, even when they hear the terms, they have no idea what these contracts are and wouldn't know where to turn to get a reliable and understandable explanation. This book is a good place to start for those interested in these kinds of obligations.
It may well be that your company wants you to look at laying off default risk on some large contracts, or that you want to add or take away some risk from your investment portfolio to insure against loss or to add the possibility of greater return. For these kinds of activities (and many others), this book is a great place to begin learning about what these things are, how they work, and how they are used.
Each of the thirteen chapters takes on a different type of product, explains what it is, its characteristics, some of the variations of the contract, and usually a case study showing the practical application of the product. Each chapter has a different mix of authors who are specialists in that particular product, so the information is solid. They are all written clearly, which is an achievement for what is often considered an arcane subject.
The chapters are: PART ONE - INDEX and SINGLE NAME PRODUCTS: An Introduction offering A Roadmap of the New World of Structured Credit, A Primer on Credit Default Swaps, Credit Default Swaptions, Constant Maturity Credit Default Swaps, Credit Derivatives Indexes, and The Added Dimensions of Credit - A Guide to Relative Value Trading.
PART TWO: PORTFOLIO CREDIT DERIVATIVES: Single Tranche CDOs (CDO= Collateralized Debt Obligation), Trading Credit Tranches - Taking Default Correlation out of the Black Box, and Understanding CDO-Squareds, CPPI - Leveraging and Deleveraging Credit.
PART THREE: COLLATERALIZED DEBT OBLIGATIONS: Collateralized Loan Obligations, ABS CDOs, CDO Equity, and Commercial Real Estate CDOs.
The authors all work for Citigroup, so it is likely that their terminology and view has some bias towards the way their company does things, but it is still a step further than the generalized and brief discussions on the topic I had in my MBA program. This book could be used as a text in such a course or additional reading for the interested student or general reader who has a fascination for this specialized subject.
There are also chapter endnotes, a glossary, and index. Each chapter makes good use of charts, graphs, and tables that aid understanding but do not get in the way.

Book Description
With the growing concern about personal bankruptcy and quality of consumer lending, an effective credit scoring system is crucial to efficient and profitable lending practices. Featuring essays from seven experts in the risk management and banking/financial institution lending environment, this unique book offers valuable insights and proven techniques for developing effective credit scoring systems. It provides in-depth coverage of the roles of credit scoring, generic vs. customized scoring models, credit bureau data, scorecard development, performance measures, neural networks, project management, scorecard monitoring reports, how to use a scorecard to a lender's best advantage and much more.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource for practitionars in financial services for consumers.......2006-12-06
This is a very practical book for anyone in the consumer risk management or non-developers of score models. Explains in plain language the practical aspects of interpreting KS scores (widely used in the credit card/mortgage/consumer finance/auto loan industries), dealing with the very pertinent issue of disparate impact (Reg B) and the even the basics of score variable analysis -including various types of biases that can come in to play.
A good collection of credit scoring related articles .......2006-10-22
I started reading this book with a low expectation but surprisingly I liked the book when I finished it !. Though it doesn't explain the statistical methods in great detail, its still a good reading for logistics regression based scorecard development. SAS is frequently referred in the text so it's easy for a SAS user.
The chapters I thought useful:
If the reader is not very familiar with US credit bureau data, Chapter 3 gives a good summary and explains the basic structure of the bureau file its importance to consumer finance.
Chapter 4- Scorecard development, Elizabeth Mays describes step by step how a scorecard is developed using logistics regression. More importantly, those who wondered how the final points (say a FICO of 580) arrived at, scaling and assignment of point weights to attributes are specifically discussed .
Chapter 5 - Variable analysis and Reduction details the information value calculations and commonly used variable reduction methods .
Chapter 13- Scorecard Monitoring Reports describes how to track them using front end and back end reporting. Though this chapter reads exactly like a FICO article on the same subject, its a good reading.
Overall, it does not have the disadvantage many people writing. Depth of some chapters is below expectation - for example Chapter 8 Score based loss forecasting.
I recommend this for anyone in consumer lending business. esp the beginning analysts. Also check with my site [...] for my recent readings.

Book Description
No matter how successful a sales operation is, if customers don't pay their bills, the company is left holding the bag. Companies across the country are out billions of dollars in delinquent money. This book shows companies how to use a variety of new credit collection techniques to successfully collect their outstanding bills.
Download Description
Corporations are placing a greater emphasis on converting credit sales into bank deposits. In most cases, accounts receivable represent the company's most important asset. Conventional collection techniques have not kept pace with changing times. Various laws, debtor attitudes, the cost of money, liberal credit policies, and increased competition have created a brand-new climate. Yet credit executives and financial management continue to follow antiquated policies. The Collection Management Handbook shows them how to redefine their credit collection techniques.

You might think, as I once did, that a bad credit record is nearly impossible to overcome. But, the fact is there are ways to repair your credit after personal problems have caused you to mess it up or some calamity has made it impossible for you to pay your bills on time or even to pay them at all. This aptly named book takes a methodical and thorough approach, with step-by-step instructions and advice to fix even the worst credit record in the shortest possible time. If you have serious credit problems, you need this book.
Book Description
The acclaimed plain-English solution to fixing a bad credit report!
Perhaps you've had problems with credit. Or perhaps you haven't, but your credit report says you have anyway-- nearly 80 percent of credit reports contain errors.
Either way, a less-than-flattering report can hurt your chances of qualifying for credit card, loans, renting an apartment or finding a job.
But a bad credit report can almost always be improved or corrected. Credit Repair shows you how to fix your credit situation quickly and easily, explaining the necessary steps in plain English. Learn how to:
*avoid overspending *establish a realistic budget *get out of debt now *build a financial cushion *read and understand your credit report *get mistakes on your credit report fixed *protect your social security number *avoid credit discrimination *get positive information added to your credit report *negotiate with creditors
Credit Repair includes 30 forms and letters -- as tear-outs and on CD-ROM --that will help you repair your credit as easily as possible!
The 7th edition is completely updated and revised with the latest information and laws, and provides new information on identity theft and what to do if you are a victim of it. It also includes an explanation of sample credit reports from the major credit bureaus, plus resources to turn to for additional help.
Customer Reviews:
Great info!.......2007-08-12
As some others have mentioned, most of the information in this book is available for free. However, for the price, having useful, effective information like this in an easy to use format is well worth it.
Very Little Useful Information .......2007-04-30
This book provided very little information thats is not already available for free. Do a search on credit repair or credit reporting and you will get all the information you need on the internet.
The entire credit reporting act was quoted. Rather than a useful interpretation, the reader is left to go through 50+ pages of legaleze. BTW, the law is public, therefore can be found without buying the book -- which adds no additional value.
Credit Repair 7th edition.......2006-04-10
I found this book to be very informative and helpfull. I have used it has a guide in helping repair my own credit. I recommend it to many.
This book is not getting enough Credit!!!.......2004-05-19
This book was so helpful, I just can't uderstand the bad reviews! Thanks to Credit Repair I've gone from being up to my ears in debt to having near perfect credit! Of course this kind of result isn't going to happen over night, any one who tells you otherwise is lying or doing something illegal. THERE ARE NO LEGAL QUICK FIXES!!! I've tried many different methods to improve my credit but following the advice in this book is the only one that worked for me. It even contains a CD-ROM with pre-made forms and letters that help to make the process as easy and painless as possible. Credit Repair was worth every cent!

Customer Reviews:
For Beginners only.......2006-08-22
This is basically a rehash of the CCCS party line - absolutely NOTHING new or original in here. NOTHING about debt negotiation - reducing the principal balance, the money actually owed, not just payments or interest rates. Easy to read, a fine primer for someone who knows nothing about this stuff and is in debt trouble for the first time, but useless to someone who is fighting for his financial life against debt collection lawyers.
There's something awwwwfuwwy scwewy going on awound hewre.......2006-08-04
Hmmmmmmm. Five reviews, with all five giving five stars. All of the reviews were extremely simple, just a mere few sentences at most, for them ALL. But the best part is when I looked at "see all my reviews" for each of these people, and I see that they ALL reviewed od they sounded juuuuuuuust like the same person could have wrotene book, and one book only (this one, obviously).
Methinks sumpin' stinks! That's a litte bit too much coincidence there for me, so I am gonna do a little rank equalizin'!

Customer Reviews:
Good, but..........2007-09-14
The book is chock full of useful information. Some is common sense, some not so common. However, it contains little about dealing with the Internet and communicating by email about credit. Moreover, as a man, I didn't appreciate the book's strong tilt toward women. Throughout, the author uses female pronouns and in places villainizes men. No advice for a man whose ex-wife has cleaned him out.
The Ultimate Credit Handbook.......2003-06-05
We used the information outlined in this book and it worked great. We had an old credit issue that dogged us for years. With this credit advise, we were able to deal effectively with AmEx and get incorrect charge-offs against our credit removed. This information is powerful and valuable. We recommend it.

this book gave me the information i needed to turn my finacial life around. easy to understand the who what where how and why to your credit history and future. if you need help with anything regarding your credit this book is all you need. thank you gerri detweiler.
This book is extremely well written!.......2001-12-05
This book truely answered all of my questions about credit and then went into suggestions that I could understand and implement. My credit is now perfect with a credit score of over 750. You will learn that scores over 700 are considered "A" credit. You will also see the importance of paying off high interest debt first. It sounds so simple but many people, like myself, were paying more on our mortgage while still carrying a credit card balance. This book has changed my family into knowledgable consumers. We are now debt free and I would strongly recommend it to anyone- and no, I don't know the author.
A Good Read.......2001-11-15
A could credit counselling book since: tells you how to budget, where you stand credit-wise, and even suggests bankruptcy (as a last resort). Worth the cost! Common sense is not so common.

Inside Secrets from a Credit Industry Professional
There are a plethora of books out there promising to show consumers how to repair their credit. There is only one that explains how to establish credit, how to maintain and manage it, and, yes, how to fix it when it's broken The Insider's Guide to Credit Repair.
This much-needed book is current, cohesive, and thorough. It begins with the basics-defining credit, explaining its value to consumers and businesses, and introducing the key parties that keep the process successfully operatingbut then covers more complex topics, including credit laws, credit scoring, credit repair and identity theft. Most noteworthy and helpful are the short quizzes after each chapter, a comprehensive glossary, and a wide variety of sample letters.
The Insider's Guide to Credit Repair is an engaging and thought-provoking discussion of consumer credit from an insider's perspectivethe author is a former instructor for one of the national credit-reporting agencies. The scope of the material is as vast as the author's industry experience, accommodating the beginner trying to establish credit for the first time and more experienced consumers seeking greater knowledge of all aspects of credit.
K.E. Varner is a former instructor of customer-service personnel for Equifax, one of the three major credit-reporting agencies. During his tenure, he functioned as a subject matter expert in a number of high-level business projects, appeared in Federal court to help resolve consumer/credit-reporting agency conflict, and facilitated credit industry information to organizations such as the Atlanta Housing Authority.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2007-02-12
I found this book very helpful and honest. It builds upon knowledge that you may already have on credit repair, and is a great resource for someone just tackling their credit.
Very well written and informative.......2006-07-09
I've read many books on credit and this is one of the better ones. I like the fact that you can read what applies to you if you choose. You don't have to read the entire book from front to back but i'd recommend it for complete understanding.
It's very easy to follow, up-to-date, comprehensive. Highlights- a great chapter on credit scoring and improving your score; a good section on finding a good credit counselor; establishing and re-establishing credit, negotiating with collectors and I liked the tests after each chapter. The only thing I would have like more of is some negotiating tips but overall it's good.
I'd recommend Liz Weston's Your Credit Score as well.
Complete Understanding.......2006-05-19
This book is definately informative. It not only helps you understand ways to repair your credit, but gives you knowledge of how to make responsible decisions in using credit. It covers every aspect of credit from the major players, credit scores, and how to reestablish and establish credit.
Great Book-very informative.......2005-10-06
This book is a must read!! If you know anyone that has credit or financial issues, teenagers about to graduate from HS and college age kids-this would be a great gift for any occasion. Kids need to be informed now before they go out and start opening credit accounts they will later regret. They need to be educated on how to establish and maintain a great credit rating. Parents can use this as a guide. Buy it and read it for yourself. I am happy I have this book and look forward to sharing it and all that I have learned from it.
This Is The Only Credit Guide You Need.......2005-08-13
I read this book and was amazed by the amount of information it gave. This author hits every area of credit that people need help with. Everything from credit scores to id theft is covered here and in great detail. It even gives little quizes at the end of each chapter to help you retain the info. The best part is that the chapters are so well segmented that you can just flip to the area you need help with and go from there.
This book by far is the best credit guide out there today. The ones I've read in the past just touch on certain things here and there, but this author really gives you what you need. I'm buying copies for each of my college children. It is highly recommended!

This is not the feel good book of the summer, it almost scares the pants off of you given the many different ways faceless criminals can rudely interrupt your life with identity theft. This book details out many of the identity theft scams that are prevalent today. It shows you, maybe in a way that is a touch over the top, just how vulnerable you are. On the positive side it also gives you the tools to fight back and the steps you can take to protect yourself. It also instructs you on what you can do if you become an identity theft victim. The book details out how the world of credit operates and your rights and responsibilities.
The current world we live in enables us to be discriminated against in the credit world because of our age, gender or marital status. The privacy of our financial information may be compromised and is so widely disseminated that it is making it more and more vulnerable to identity theft all the time. That is why this book is important, it gives the reader some tools to help us remain safe or at least less vulnerable. Overall the author gives the reader a number of useful and well described tips for how to keep as safe as possible and how to fix problems if they come up. It is a bit on the dramatic side, but if you are a victim of this type of crime then the descriptions are probably right on the mark.
