Best source to get a handle on the SEO mystery........2007-04-06
This video explains not only SEO processes and sources, but also how to go about the thought processes and the also the correct way (white hat) to go about performing SEO services for your site and your customers if you are in the business. I thoroughly enjoyed Richards cavalier and no nonces approach in this video. If you want a quick jump start into the SEO world, I recommend this video.
SEO simplified.......2007-03-30
I have gone through a few other tutorials and the only thing they had in common was that they were BORING. This is not the case with Richard Jenkins' SEO videos. He is able to present vital information in a way that is very easy to understand and his scense of humor makes the video series very enjoyable to watch. I would recommend this tutorial series to anyone who wants to understand search engine optimization.
What I didn't know was hurting my online presence.......2006-12-19
I discovered search engine optimization after having a website up for 3 yeaars that never seemed to generate any business. In fact, I couldn't get my company name to come up when I searched for it myself. In doing some marketing research I discovered this process called search engine optimization (SEO) and what you didn't know about it could hurt you. And it was. I then discovered John's SEO CD that taught everything I needed to know in a way that I could easily comprehend. He teaches using lots of live examples so you know exactly what he's talking about. John is an excellent teacher and reveals valuable resources in his tutorial. Step by step he tells you what you need to do and why you need to do it. What he teaches not only improves one's website, but marketing in general. I highly recommend John's CD and urge everyone to learn about SEO. [...]
Groovy resource present energetically........2006-11-19
Before starting this title, I had no idea what "SEO" was, and I certainly wasn't really very enthusiastic about it simply because it sounded like it might be rather dry and humourless. I had, however, always recognised the intrinsic value in getting search engine rankings right and so I thought I'd just have to slog through it and try to stay awake, especially because I was really dying to get into other books I'd also bought on much 'cooler' stuff like Flash and Photoshop.
I can now say though that SEO is, apart from being super-important, really interesting and cool. Thanks to Richard John Jenkins' excellent skills, wide-ranging knowledge and enthusiastic presentation I now feel really geared up and well-prepared to go and improve my own site's rankings. How many times throughout his illuminating explanations did I say 'Doh!' out loud (ala Homer Simpson) as I realised I had committed many of the classic SEO errors mentioned. Well, Richard really hats you up and shows you, with real hands-on examples, just how to set your SEO straight and improve those all-important search engine rankings by demonstrating a miriad of tools, most of which are available free on the Internet, to optimise your site's searchability,...or perhaps 'rankability' or indexability' would be more appropriate.
I know that I'll be redesigning my site, which it probably needed for other reasons anyway, and I'll definitely be gearing it toward being much more search engine friendly. I can highly recommend this book.

Vasty Outdated.......2007-02-02
When I picked it up I was instantly concerned that it was last updated in July of 2000. But as I started reading I found myself pretty surprised at the relevance of the information. That was until I reached the portion of the book the deals with search engine optimization. The first 72 pages of this book largely discuss the marketing aspects and needs of a website and most (not all) of the information provided here is relevant and useful. Beyond that, however, the information is old, outdated and rife with bad advice.
The author continually claims that he does not believe in using spammy techniques, but then goes on to discuss the merits of using hidden text, invisible links, doorway pages, all things considered spam.
I would not recommend buying this book. Most of the information is available (and refuted) online already, but if you do get a copy of it, skip pages 73-155 and 163-193. It'll be a nice quick read and you'll skip over the outdated nonsense.
Miserably out-of-date, bad advice.......2005-03-14
This book is last updated in 2000.... yes, 2000. That is eternity on the web. It barely mentions Google and refers to many sites that are no longer in existance. Until the authors stop milking this version and write a new one, there are many better choices!
Written With Small Business Owners In Mind!.......2001-03-10
Derek Galon has written The Savvy Way to Successful Website Promotion for small business owners who are looking for some effective ways to better promote themselves online through their own Websites. This book offers plenty of concise information on how they can get this accomplished.
This book features plenty of marketing and promoting tips, including finding a good ISP, advice on coming up with domain names, basic Website design considerations that will make Websites easy to find and display, special programming features that will attract attention, and developing Website content that will help online business people produce sales. A helpful glossary of Web terms is included at the back of the book.
Readers will find particularly helpful the concise instruction on programming. They will learn about linking, embedding keywords into their Web pages, and using banners. Readers will also learn about using mail lists and taking advantage of newsgroups. The tips and tricks outlined in the book are cute, clever, and will actually work. I chuckled when I read about embedding search engine key words by blending them into Web page backgrounds!
The author's emphasis placed upon using search engines is well-founded. This is a major step in drawing visitors to Websites. The brief overview of major search engines like AltaVista, Infoseek, HotBot, Excite, Lycos, and MSN will help readers learn the skills and strategies involved in preparing their Websites for submission. The process will be rewarding once traffic starts coming their way!
Written for the average business owner creating a Website or updating an existing one, this book will help them attain a good business image before the online community. It's written in a brief, concise manner for quick reading and implementation. It will help readers to start doing business online. Ideal for beginners!
All one needs to get started..........2000-12-10
I saw all the comments here, but believe that this book shows all techniques available to a lone webmaster. All these techniques (as far as I know) are used by Web promotion services, charging big bucks. Thanks to the author I was able to do all that job myself, and now I really see the results. So, thumbs up! I don't care if there is a spelling error or not. Contents matters to me - and it is there. I would say that on top of all standard techniques described (yes, some of them are already known from various computer-related papers), there is several valuable and little known recommendations. I simply use them, and my site gets better. Isn't it enough? For me - it is just what I was looking for... Have problem getting visibility on-line? This may be your solution... It was mine. I recommend it. (PS. I only wish I had this book before I did the setup of my Web site. Didn't know beginnings are that important)
Enjoyed and learned..........2000-07-26
I have so enjoyed reading the book. I can't seem to put it down. The information is clear and to the point. Much more than I expected. I also like the author's personality in the book. Thanks for taking the time to think about the little guys.

First of its kind.......2007-03-06
This book, published in Spanish, is not a translation, but the original work of pioneers in the fields of search engine positioning and digital marketing in Spain and Latin America.
It could be used as a textbook, as a reference manual or simply as a user's guide for businesses that want to improve their Internet experience.
The authors go into a great deal of detail, explaining first why web positioning is the star of digital marketing, covering how business models have evolved with the Internet, highlighting the reasons that justify investing in search engines, and illustrating how to identify target audiences and establish web objectives.
The book covers step by step how to "seduce" a search engine so that it favors our website and also presents a lot of real-world examples.
All in all it is a pretty comprehensive and well written volume with a lot of information ready to be put to practice.

Customer Reviews:
Definately poorly written.......2004-07-28
This book claims to be somthing close to a internet marketing topic. Alas! It is not. Looks and Feels like a term paper.
I've only wated my money for that !!!!
Poorly written term paper.......2002-06-20
Initially I was excited by this book because of its straight forward advice and recommendations. Upon reading the book, though, I found it full of typos, editorial mistakes, and out-dated information. It would be worth a read if it were a few dollar PDF download, but otherwise is a waste of time.
Outdated.......2002-05-22
If you are serious about Search Engine Positioning, you will be disappointed.
The information is scant and also outdated. Illustrations are of poor quality.
For instance, the author describes "what pulls search engine rankings down" in Chapter 6. Now everybody knows that FRAMES are not the best way when it comes to SEP, but it is also a fact that sometimes we simply HAVE to use them. However, the author fails to provide the readers with any suggestions here.
A Book for Newbies...........2002-04-26
I ordered this book without having read the excerpts that are now posted on Amazon. I was pretty disappointed. I should note that I work on search engine performance issues as a part of my job. Passages of the book are totally out of date and useless - example being the pay-for-click section dealing with goto.com (which is now out of business). This is a book for newbies and even then, will only be relevant in certain areas (HTML metatags for example). Best to save your money and do your research on the 'net since search engine performance is a topic that changes frequently.
Search engine technology wizard.......2002-04-09
A five star book for for understanding Search engines and marketing cost effectively using the power of search engine technology but one star book for general marketing.
Buy this book only as a search engine marketing guide and not as a general marketing guide

Book Description
Search engine marketing (SEM) is the most rapidly growing aspect of online advertising. However, because SEM is not based on traditional targeting methods and does not include a creative element, media agencies run the risk of being bypassed as advertisers increasingly deal directly with the search engines.

My web site has gone from unfindable to right at the top of many searches. I highly recommend this book for beginner and advanced alike.
Book Description
Search Engine Positioning is a hybrid web marketing and technical HTML title for experienced webmasters who are responsible for improving and increasing the traffic to a company's web site. According to IMT Strategies, "search engines create more awareness about web sites than all advertising combined including banners, newspapers, TV, and radio." In 1999 web traffic grew by 300%, and Internet commerce is expected to grow exponentially through 2002 with worldwide sales approaching $60 billion and business-to-business sales in excess of $300 billion.
As web pages proliferate , companies must implement more aggressive search engine optimization strategies to complement advertising and marketing efforts. Search Engine Positioning provides not only the marketing insight into improving a web site, but the technical nuances of optimizing HTML to increase web traffic for higher visibility and increased sales.
The CD includes a trial version of WebPosition Gold.

Incredibly Detailed.......2003-03-21
It took me a couple weeks to get through this book, but I'm very glad I took the time. There is amazing detail about almost every important engine out there. If you follow the guidelines in this book, your site will see significant increases in your site rankings. You should also check out Search Engine Visibility. The combination of the two books will do amazing things for your site.
Useful Resource..........2002-12-18
Fredrick's book is a useful resource for anyone who is new to the arena of search engine optimization. Fredrick provides a very good overview of all of the major details of getting good placement and ranking on the major directories and search engines. Unfortunately (and this is a problem with all printed resources that have a lengthy period before publication) the material gets a bit dated when looking at the most current methods to get the best rankings on the various engines. Still a worthy purchase (even at the price) for those needing information on this subject.
Disappointing for writing purposes.......2002-11-30
As a very active online copywriter, I wanted tips on how to write web sites so that they are more likely to come up in search engine searches. Only two chapters pertained to this. The rest is tedious, tedious detail of use mainly to tedious technical people, and I learned next to nothing useful from the rest of the book that I felt would help me help my clients.
So good, I wore out my first copy.......2002-03-28
This is a must-have book for any small business that wants more customers from the Internet. Most small businesses cannot afford an expensive Internet marketing firm to come in and work their black magic to improve their search engine ranking. Mr. Marckini's book provides any small business with the knowledge base to do it themselves - and you don't have to be an expert. Marckini de-mystifies the whole positioning process. His explanations are clear, easy to understand and full of examples.
The book is thick because it is comprehensive, but don't let that intimidate you. Its logical layout, the scan friendly format, and detailed Table of Contents supports subject hopping as well as a pleasurable cover-to-cover read. The first time I read the book was on a cross-country flight and I kept finding myself exclaiming "Wow!" out loud. (I was so absorbed I wasn't even aware I was doing it until the person next to me on the flight asked me what I was reading.)
Actions speak louder than words. This is a book you will use over and over again. I am on my second copy of the book. I literally wore out my first copy because I used it so much in my day to day work. Seriously - I work at a small Internet company and thanks to the information in Marckini's book, our company has been able to slash its advertising dollars, and still increase our revenue. How? We put search engines to work for us using the techniques described in this book.
I enjoyed the entire book, but as I look at my well worn copy the chapter with the most highlighting and notes in the margins is Chapter 10: Search Engine Positioning Begins with Web Site Design. I benefited most from this Chapter because my original site was in dire need of help. I applied some of the workarounds and corrections I learned from this book during the redesign of our site and we quickly saw our search engine traffic quadruple. This book provides the answers, and if you take the time to apply them, you will achieve the same results as an Internet marketing firm - without the expense.
You must get this book if you want to do SEP effectively.......2002-03-10
This is the best book you can buy on search engine positioning hands down. If you are looking to do SEP yourself, this definitely is the book to get.
If you're totally new to SEP, or if you have already had experience with it, this book is invaluable to both categories of people. If you need some hand holding, start out at the beginning; otherwise, if you're more advanced, it's easy to jump from chapter to chapter. The book covers everything in great detail. It's a great learning tool as well as a great reference tool.
In addition to being a very informative book, Fredrick writes in a style that is easy to read. This book is huge, yet I read it in a single day.
You don't have to worry about the book going out of date, either, because Fredrick keeps updates to chapters on his site.
Before I read Fredrick's book, I thought I knew a few things about SEP. He helped me build on what I knew and corrected some of my misperceptions.
My site's traffic went from a couple hundred unique visitors each day, to nearly 10,000 unique visitors each day. And on top of that, this growth occurred in just 5 months.
If you are serious about generating more traffic to your site, this book is essential.
Fredrick is the authority on SEP.
