Customer Reviews:
Office: Premium Edition will be the talk of the office!.......2007-10-24
Office: Premium Edition was purchased for a required graduate computer class. I'm pretty savvy with all the office products (so I thought) and know quite a few "tricks." When I started going through this book it was quite refreshing to have a "how to" book that is REALLY user friendly! This book caters from the Novice to the Experienced. Now I know why it is considered premium! Purchase of this book is really an investment as well as a time-saver.Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Concepts and Techniques
the book.......2007-10-01
it got in at a pretty good pace but it was in a rather ugly condition.
Good Resource.......2007-05-12
This is an excellent book for someone with a basic to moderate knowledge of office products who wants to learn more. The book does a good job of covering basic concepts and an excellent job of describing the different methods and shortcuts to perform a particular task.
SHELLY CASHMAN'S BOOKS ARE GREAT.......2007-03-08
I have used Shelly Cashman's books since 1988. A step-by-step learning tool that you cannot go wrong with. After you used this book or any in the series you will not try another. The SAM Training Companion CD and the Fast Cards that are with the book are very helpful. The OTHER WAY BOXES AND QUICK REFERENCE SUMMARY can get you out of any situation you get yourself into. The IN THE LAB projects after each chapter are a excellent way to reinforce your skills.
When I need to learn something new or update my skills I reference Shelly Cashman Series first. Or I just do not learn it!!!

Microsoft Office @2000 -ShellyCashman Series Book.......2005-09-27
The book itself is very good. I would recommend it to those who are just starting to learn and for those who need to brush up on their skills or use as a desk reference. I did not like the "ring -binder" form as it seems flimsy and already was looking used when I got it due to shipping. I would suggest the other form for future reference.
Great Book just skip the first chapters about computers!!!.......2004-09-30
The book is great but it is written for people who never had experience with computers. So I would advise anyone to skip those intial chapters. I highly recommend getting the spiral bound edition because the book is about the size of a major city's Yellow Pages and it is easier to handle.
The screen-by-screen instruction is terrific but of course, I ignore directions such as (open window, hit save, etc..). The lessons at the end of each project allow you to perform the lessons that you just learned. I would advise that you download the lessons on your computer instead of to a disk like the book recommends. Since I was just laid off, the book is great for brushing up on programs that you don't really use on a daily basis. I am planning to get the advanced versions of the book very soon.
Microsoft Office 2000.......2003-08-23
This book is quite useful especially for those who is self-directed. You will find it informative and put you at ease. You can follow step-by-step instructions and learn a lot from this book.
Great tips and easy to use.......2003-07-16
This book is great and a keeper! I guarantee that even if you use a computer daily at work or school you will still learn many new tricks and shortcuts from this book. I would highly recommend it to someone who is trying to learn new things in the Microsoft Office Suites!
Outstanding Series.......2003-02-28
If you can't learn MS Office 2000 or XP using the Shelly Cashman series I believe you will never learn using another series. These books help me tremendously to become Master Certified in Office 2000. I'm also in the process of becoming Master Certified in XP using the Shelly Cashman series. When MS Office 11 comes out later this year I will invest in that series also.

Customer Reviews:
Only for frsh graduates........2006-08-02
I am in embedded world for 8 good years and brought this book to know something which I dont know. This book is purely for fresh graduates out college.(that too only when they havnt worked hard in their courses) also if you have been in industry but didnt get chance to work on actual system then this can be of little help for you.
Dont buy it if you have already spent a couple of years on actual systems. You wont benefit much.
Good book for novice embedded programmers.......2006-06-17
This is my current recommended title for newcomers to embedded programming. It is thorough enough to keep as a reference for a while.
BUT:
1) It should be updated to discuss use of C++ and update other topics.
2) Don't ever use the horrible hungarian notation even if you are Hungarian!
Excellent book for people new to Embedded Systems.......2006-03-03
I am just begining my studies of embedded systems, and this book has be invaluable. Very readable, and structured in a reasonable way. The only thing lacking from this book is a chapter on networked embedded systems. This is a "primer", however, and one can't expect to many advanced topics in such a book. Other than that small gripe, this book is excellent and I highly recomend it for someone begining their studies of embedded systems.
Helped make the transition from "programming" to "embedded programming".......2006-02-01
This book is a great way to get used to the idea of embedded systems programming. It doesn't actually have the code in there, but it is called a primer. It definitely primes you for thinking like an embedded programmer. Good chapters on hardware and the basics. Nice lists of things to watch out for. I think it was the perfect first book to read before making an attempt to enter the embedded systems world.
Good introduction in embedded systems.......2004-09-15
This book is a GREAT introductory book into the embedded world. Even if you are an experienced embedded engineer, you'll find this book useful to remember basic concepts you might have forgotten with time, but maybe you'll find it TOO BASIC for you.

Customer Reviews:
Pretty good info, Doesn't instill as much "critical thinking".......2007-08-20
I work in a world where critical thinking skills are a must, so for things like this you should have more exercises that are "at your own pace" and "figure it out yourself" type of deal.
This book is also horribly lacking the ability to check how close your Office document that YOU made to their example. It's no use if you don't know how well you did. Things can look similar, but there are probably errors here-or-there.
It's fairly comprehensive, but like I said, since you don't really use your brain much, you don't really gain the ability to do these type of things on your own.
Great Book, For Those Who Are New To Computers!.......2002-12-16
This is a great textbook! This book is very easy to follow, as it has provided step-by-step instructions on how to do each of the chapters in this book and of Office XP. It also has a chapter review section with more exercises.

Learn CRM concepts, discover what tools are available and which ones are suitable for your business, and get practical, expert advice on avoiding common pitfalls.
Customer Reviews:
Not insightful.......2007-05-24
This a book that's not terribly insightful about CRM. It's a broad brush overview of commercial applications in the space and some conventional wisdom. Found it to have much repetitious pedantic pages. Wished that there were more discussion on business process and best practices.
Wow!.......2007-05-14
Great resource! Filled with lots of statistics for CRM industry and great insite into the challenges.
Very Good Reading - even for small business crm interest.......2003-11-04
This is an excellent book for those interested in understanding the strategy behind CRM.
Great tehnology review.......2003-06-14
This is the bible for defining what CRM is, and is not, as well as categorizing all the technology offerings and giving good advice as to how to choose the right technology. I also read "CRM For The Common Man" by Russ Lombardo and thought it was a great precursor to CRM at the Speed of Light. CRM For The Common Man describes how to plan your CRM strategy up front, while Greenberg's book takes you to the next steps involving the technology. A great pair.
What a great education!.......2002-03-15
This book was truly one of the greatest educational books I've read. Whether it was intended for this or not, I don't know but what a great business overview of what CRM is as a whole. Paul's ability to simplify and his great sense of humour makes this book easy to read, easy to understand and was actually one of the most fun and informative books I've read in awhile. If your looking for a great understanding of CRM with a book that is hard to put down, this is the one. I can't wait for his second edition!

ASIN: 1565927176 |

Lotus Domino offers fantastic power to organizations that want to manage communication so that news and ideas get to the people who need them with minimal hassle, both in terms of user trouble and administrator effort. Lotus Domino Administration in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference is designed to ease the Notes administrator's job even further, by providing a concise list of tools and procedures that come into play during the setup and day-to-day operation of a Notes environment. This book won't be much help to you if you're completely new to Notes, but it may well save your day if you work with multiple groupware environments (perhaps as a consultant) or if you've been called on to make a structural change in a Notes installation that's gone generally untouched for some time. It'll also back you up if you're fresh from Notes training and need help on the job.
This book excels in its documentation of command-line utilities and the entries that appear in the NOTES.INI file. The latter occupies nearly a third of this book, which lists every possible entry that the NOTES.INI parser understands. Each entry appears with its proper syntax, as well as its legal values. You'll find well-reasoned descriptions of each entry as well, along with references to related entries. Documentation of utilities (which are categorized by functional unit such as mail) is similar. --David Wall
Topics covered: The tools and settings with which administrators of Lotus Notes need to be familiar. Sections explain the Notes database infrastructure, its methods of routing and tracking mail, and its performance-monitoring utilities. More focused sections show how Notes works with the Domino environment, Domino Enterprise Connection Services (DECS), and Internet Cluster Manager (ICM). A long section documents NOTES.INI values.
Book Description
Domino is one of the most effective platforms for developing and deploying e-business applications, allowing new communities of developers to enjoy its collaborative capabilities. With over 55 million seats worldwide, Domino already provided a strong foundation for messaging and web applications, and the release of R5 builds on that to make Domino easier to use than ever before. For example, Lotus Domino R5 has been expanded to interact with most browsers and other non-Notes clients, so developers can choose their favorite language to design web applications. With R5, administrators can centrally modify client configurations instead of hopping from one terminal to the next throughout the company. The new Domino interface allows administrators to visually monitor the health and status of the Domino servers in a network from a single screen. All this capability implies complexity, and it's easy to forget which menu to go to. Here's where Lotus Domino Administration in a Nutshell can help. It's a quick reference that will come in handy again and again for finding solutions to administrative problems. This book covers:
- Domino architecture and key concepts
- R5 administration tools
- Domino directory and console commands
- Database properties and Access Control
- Configuring Domino Enterprise Connection Services (DECS)
- Supporting the Notes client
- Domino for IIS
Whether the task is messaging servers, modifying administration tasks to a simpler and more efficient level, or ensuring the security and flexibility of a web application server, Lotus Domino Administration in a Nutshell is the reference developers need to make the most of this reliable and scalable integrated server platform.
Customer Reviews:
A must have book.......2003-07-25
Always keep this book within arms reach. Not for the inexperienced. If you know Domino Administration and know how to use this book, it can be your bible. Everyone on my team has one on their bookshelf.
Needs editing. Rough draft quality. Painfull to read........2001-07-04
This book needs editing. Much more akin to a first rough draft than a finished version ready for print. Painfull to read, it definetely does not live up to the high standards of other O'REILLY books I've read. The book covers a lot of information in a condensed format but unfortunetly has the following shortcomings (listed in order of seriousness):
1) the author often uses very poor sentence structure making absorbing the information difficult. I found myself editing the book so that the meaning would be clearer.
2) many of the screenshots in the book are illegible. There are techniques and tricks for making screenshots high enough quality for print. The screenshots in the book are low quality.
3) the author on occasion uses terms & acronyms before defining them. Sometimes they are not defined.
The best book i have ever seen.......2001-01-06
This is not a book for beginners. With a bit of Notes experience, this book gives me what i need. This book is a MUST for all administrators.
Good Reference.......2000-08-26
This is a good book for the experienced and inexperienced Notes administrator. The author, Greg Neilson, obviously has experience in large Lotus/Domino installations, where Lotus-invented procedures frequently break down.
The book is geared towards R5, so it's handy for 4.5/4.6 admins who are making the transition. Many screen captures, lots of tables and tips. [...]

The Prize : The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power

Book Description
As consumers, suppliers, competitors, and capital users, the 142 developing countries in the world are of major and growing importance to more than 140,000 Western managers who do business with the Third World on a daily basis, often as partners in strategic alliances. Yet, other than theoretical articles in the economic development literature, there are few sources to which these managers, faced with a very different and difficult business environment, can turn. Now, building on 25 years as a teacher, researcher, and advisor to companies, governments, and international agencies in developing nations, James Austin presents the most complete and comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of the Third World business environment available today.
Seemingly insurmountable obstacles confront a Western company setting up operations in a Third World country: governmental controls, rampant inflation and devaluation, cumbersome bureaucratic procedures for obtaining import licenses, skill scarcity, difficulties with training new employees in new technology -- and not least, the possibility that the entire venture could go up in the flames of a revolution. Through his lucid Environmental Analysis Framework -- a powerful, field-tested analytical tool -- Austin first systematically and masterfully examines these economic, political, cultural, and demographic factors at the international, national, industry, and company levels. The second and largest portion of the book comprises Austin's detailed, brilliantly insightful analysis of the most critical strategic issues and operating problems that managers will encounter in developing countries -- in governmental relations, finance, marketing, production, and organization -- together with a battery of tested operating techniques illustrated with numerous experiences of multinational companies operating in the Third World, such as Cummins Engine, Mitsubishi, PepsiCo, Ciba-Geigy, ICI, Nestlé, and Philips.
In his concluding chapters, Austin returns to his Environmental Analysis Framework to show managers how they should determine the scale and scope -- the projected financial investment and the degree of managerial involvement -- of their activity in a particular developing country; how they should decide on ownership strategy and the use of joint ventures; and how cultural factors will affect the structure of the projected enterprise. Finally, Austin offers his perspective on the evolving business environment in developing countries.

The book is an excellent reference to plan a company's strategy to enter 142 countries. The strongest edge is the concentrated case studies that flows in the book ingenuinely. The book highlights the big resemblance in the economic side between most of the developing countries and it highlights the big variation in political systems affecting all other activities. Demographic factors are well explored in addition to their effect. It's really compulsory before any firm should plan to step in 142 countries.
