5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2007-10-18

Not only is this a great book, but I really admire this family. There is so much useful information in this book, if it doesn't apply to you, it will give you ideas. For instance, I have no storage space in my small apartment, so it is impossible for me to shop a month at a time. I adapted their advice to plan ahead only for two weeks, which I have enough storage space for. Thank you for writing such a great book.

5 out of 5 stars Love the style of this book.......2007-10-18

America's Cheapest Family is a catchy title, & is written in an engaging conversational style. I especially enjoyed the paragraphs occasionally provided by the kids. A refreshing change from other books, to have their point of view included. The ideas presented are solid, & I like the 3 different "levels" at the end of each chapter. You don't feel like a failure if you can't quite reach to such an extreme level. The stories are endearing, especially about their long vacation. There will be something for everyone to learn in this book. An amazing family.

5 out of 5 stars Practical ideas for frugal living.......2007-10-10

I loved this book! I read it cover to cover and have implememted great money saving techniques into my lifestyle. I feel I am already somewhat frugal, but this book gave me great ways to teach my children and to have an even more detailed budget. I ahve implemented some of the tips to save on groceries and am so pleased! I not only am saving money but also valuable time! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for practical money saving tips already put to the test!

4 out of 5 stars It's worth reading.......2007-10-02

I'm a pretty good cheapskate myself so some of these ideas were not new to me. However, even though some of their ideas were so draconian I would never personally do them, it was interesting to read and I got a few ideas from them. I checked the book out of the library instead of buying it, proving another way to be frugal.

5 out of 5 stars The budget that set us free.......2007-09-10

I read this book when my family was spiraling into financial doom. We were spending $250-350 MORE than we were earning--per month. We were looking into selling our home and only car because we couldn't afford our lifestyle. And we were totally sinking in debt.

Then I read AMERICA'S CHEAPEST FAMILY and decided to try the budget outlined in the book. It took me many hours of work at first to figure out all our expenses & debts, but it was so exciting when it started to come together. My husband and I were elated because we finally knew what was wrong with our finances. Before we put everything on paper using their worksheet, we couldn't pinpoint exactly why & how we had lost control. Once we finished listing our costs, our overspending was clear and we knew we could change it.

We've been doing this budget for 5 months now. We're now spending less than we earn. We have money set aside ahead of time for all our bills, even the big ones like car insurance. And I no longer have to pay with the payment plans--I pay the entire bill at once. We've got a now-thriving savings account too. We even pay a little extra for our mortgage each month. And we've also got money set aside for Christmas & birthdays, so we can splurge and have no credit card debt.

The one thing we do differently from the Economides' is that I pay all of our bills automatically (and free) online. It's way easier than checkbooks and you save on stamps and grief.

Utilizing their budget system saved our family. We still own our home and car and I am so grateful. Our son can still play in our yard, which means everything to me. I could see how this budget could be too much for some people... however I actually enjoy the time I spend on it. Seriously, it's all good news now! It's also our plan for the future.

This budget set us free. I never thought I'd ever say that, because you always hear how budgets restrict you, but for us it's the opposite. Now we have financial freedom.

Book Description

When it comes to advertising on the web, you just can't argue with the numbers. A $7 billion market today is expected to grow to $18.9 billion by 2010. Jupiter Research also estimates that search advertising will be a larger share of the market than display advertising by 2010. These phenomenal numbers are due largely to Google, which has changed the way the world publishes content - and advertises.

Google Advertising Tools from O'Reilly examines the business and technology behind making money with content and advertising on the web. This focused, easy-to-read guide shows you how to use Google's advertising services to make it happen. You'll find all the background information you need to work with Google AdSense, which automatically delivers text and image ads that are precisely targeted to your site, and Google AdWords, which lets you generate text ads that accompany specific search term results.

This book has specific and detailed sections on:

Once you've read all four parts, you'll have a comprehensive picture of how advertising works on the web and how you can use the Google advertising programs to your advantage.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great resouce book.......2007-10-19

Like most of the O'Reilly books, this is very well written and a really good resource for tips and hints. It is not as good for a beginner, but is good for people that need a good resource to go to the next level.

5 out of 5 stars Google Advertising Tools: Cashing in with AdSense, AdWords, and the Google APIs.......2007-07-15

It is estimated that Google ads reach 80% of all Internet users. No other advertising system or promotional scheme (including spam campaigns) can boast such coverage. Cashing in on Google ads either as an advertiser through AdWords or by getting paid by the click for hosting Google ads through Adsense is a pretty quick and simple process.

Google Advertising Tools is meant for the beginner advertiser or new website owner who would like to make a little extra money through hosting Google ads. This book takes the reader through the whats, the whys, the hows, and the wheres of these options. Much of the more complicated parts of these processes are even detailed step by step complete with illustrations of what the reader will see at the website. I do suggest this book to those new to Google ads. However, I also think that those already participating in these programs with find a few helpful hints and tips, particularly in the optimizing sections.

3 out of 5 stars Just OK.......2007-01-10

This book was OK, I mean it has some good information but you can find most of it online so it is more of a resource book instead of a book having especially valuable information.

Im glad I bought it cause I now have a resource book on the shelf and dont have to search online and I often have limited time.

If you have the time to research online then do that, otherwise by this book.

3 out of 5 stars a book to begin.......2007-01-07

3 out of 5 stars Useful Information.......2006-12-05

While I found the book useful and inspiring, the author did bounce all over the place and made some strange comments. He even devoted an entire chapter to marketing adult sites, which I thought was a bit strange. Davis wrote at all levels conceptually, theoretically and tactically - which is good. Overall, it's a useful book with good information.

5 out of 5 stars Cashing In on a Second Home in Mexico: How to Buy, Rent and Profit from Property South of the Border.......2007-08-28

Book in great condition. Easy reading, and many good pointers on moving to Mexico. Great information on email address for help on subject of renting or owning property. Think it will be very usefull.

5 out of 5 stars Useful information.......2007-07-19

I found this book very informative. It covered all aspects of buying property in Mexcio and information on specific areas of the country. Even though he promotes Stewart Title Insurance I see how this is an important area to consider when purchasing in Mexico. I learned a lot and will keep this book for future reference.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-07-05

I "bought" a home in Puerto Pensaco two years ago. I am still trying to get my Fideicomiso. While everything looks like it will turn out ok, I sure wish i had read this book first. If nothing else I would have understood the process better and would have know what questions to ask and what documents to look for.

A very informative book and I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about buying in Mexico. It will increase you comfort level trmendously.

3 out of 5 stars Giving it a 3 because it did contain some useful information.......2007-06-15

It deserves 3 stars because it did contain some useful information which was unknown to me, however it wasn't that great of a read. There are not a whole lot of books on buying a home in Mexico so this one will have to do for now.

2 out of 5 stars Very Poorly Written.......2007-05-07

I found this book very poorly written, incredibly boring, and repetitive to the point that the eyes glaze over after a while. I think one of the writers must be a lawyer whose intention is to make things obscure rather than clear. It needs a thorough editing, but I think the person would be "mad as a hatter" before s/he finished the task. As another reviewer observed, the book should be greatly reduced in size, and Stewart Title Company should pay for advertisement -- if it had not already done so. Appendix B "Getting Into Mexico" is totally out of date.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars This book is awful.......2007-07-07

I bought this book thinking it would clearly help the process of getting an invention to market. Boy was I wrong. This book is confusing and the ideas seem randomly scattered throughout its many pages. I recommend instead "How to Licnese Your Million Dollar Idea" by Harvey Reese and "The Moms Inventors Handbook" by Tamara Monosoff. These two books are thinner and more straight forward.

4 out of 5 stars Worth the Read.......2007-02-03

A humorous trip through the maze of invention licensing. Lots and lots of facts, examples and quotes. Well summarized.

5 out of 5 stars Worth Buying.......2006-01-25

Thank goodness I didn't take the advice of "A reader" who only gave this book one star ("not very useful, July 30, 2003").

My library had an electronic copy of this book that I've been reading online for the past hour. I'm at the point in the invention process where I've designed my invention and now I need to build a prototype. Already I've gotten valuable advice on invention promotion firms, licensing versus venturing, and where to receive government funding.

When I wrote this review, it wasn't possible to search inside the book. That has since been corrected. Search for and read "Levy's 10 Commandments for Success" on page 12 and "Do You Need a Patent Attorney?" on page 162 for some good advice.

I often rely on reader reviews to help me decide whether to buy a book. However, it's obvious that "A reader" didn't give this book a chance. You will certainly need to read more than one book to learn how to make money from inventing. Your library will probably have lots of inventor books you can read before making a decision to buy. Even if you are going to use a patent attorney, you definitely need to buy "Patent It Yourself" by David Pressman. "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cashing in on Your Inventions" is another book to own for its helpful tips at many points along the path to profiting from your invention.

3 out of 5 stars Picture friendly but informative.......2005-05-20

The book has a lightweight appearance but there is good advice on negociating contracts based on years of selling inventions and what to look out for - this is where I think the book really wins. It explains contracts and how to get the best one. Later in the book, there is more rudimentary descriptions of the different types of design types and loads of links to both government agencies and independent advice bureaus. It also explains the history of Patents which I found informative and dots humorous and common-garden inventions used today. For such a legalistic thing to attempt to do, I think the book did a good job of making it reasonably clear.

3 out of 5 stars It's okay........2004-11-05

I am happy for the author for his successes, but... he knew people that could help him get his foot in the door. He really has no knowledge of how to help you get YOUR foot in the door, other than general comments on what he would do if he had not known anyone. I am slightly unhappy with the book because the reason I bought it was to get my ideas developed into tangible products. This book will tell you valuable info on what the terms are and helpful info on making a decision about how to proceed, but not enough info about getting to the decision makers of a company. You will be more knowlegable if you buy this book, but you still have a ton of research ahead of you, as the author doesn't help you by providing names and address of key personnel that can help you get your idea or invention shown. Some of you may still feel like "idiots" when you're done reading this book. (?)

A book for all traders. Although the vast majority of futures traders lose money, a few select groups consistently win: floor traders, commercial traders and insiders. In this fascinating and provocative book, veteran book, veteran futures trader Grant Noble takes the reader inside the futures market and explains the strategies used by each group of winners. He demonstrates why winners must have an ``edge'' if they are to outperform other traders consistently. Noble shows how an individual trader can adopt the same methods used by the winners to beat the market. In addition, Noble unveils a system to interpret and profit from news media coverage of the markets. A savvy and streetwise book on trading, The Trader's Edge will provide the ``inside edge'' needed to become a successful trader.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Belongs on every trader's bookshelf.......1999-03-16

I normally do not like most books written on the subject of futures trading. All the way from their bombastic titles to the poorly thought out ideas which lose money consistently. This book is different. It contains a lot of new ideas and some pretty interesting information. The chapter on "split openings" is well worth the price of the book alone. It is a very good manual for short term traders, particularly day traders.

4 out of 5 stars excellent book for stock and commodity traders or wannabes.......1998-11-26

I couldn't put this book down for the first 1/3rd...and liked the 2nd third...but the last 1/3rd dragged. Lots of good rules and explanations and ideas from a practical point of view. Well worth the price, and I learned a lot.

5 out of 5 stars i made money the first day i read the book.grant is great.......1998-08-08

the ideas generated from this book, helped me make money right away.Grant drilled into me the importance of what the winners do and what they do is they concentrate most of their time and energy on the opening, which most of us amateurs, the majority, tend to ignore. If you want to succeed in the world of trading, Grant points out, you must start doing what the winners do.I strongly recommend this book for the day trader and position trader.Put away all your books on indicators and buy this book.

...this is way too complicated and does not need to be. The writing is too dense and honestly not entirely acurate.

5 out of 5 stars This Is Where You'll Find The Help You Need........2005-10-17

I bought Don Debelak's book, "Bringing Your Product To Market In Less Than A Year" because that is just what I wanted to do. I applied for a patent on my new and better method of doing something that was long overdue for improvement.

I read the book and made a list of questions to ask Don, or one of his staff. Before approaching him, I visited his website, dondebelak.com and viewed everything clickable. At his site, I was glad to see that he offered three different methods through which he, or a staff member could assist me. I chose the most reasonable, by e-mail, as that way I have all the good info at my fingertips. The other options are by phone, where I'd have to remember everything they explained to me. The third choice is having one of his staff members visit my place of business, which is my home.

I phoned and asked for Don. I explained what I was trying to do, and told him I had just finished his most recent book, and that I needed help, preferably by e-mail. He said "fine", and asked a few questions. Then he stepped me through what he saw as the best way to describe the invention, and we talked about the business plan, and what category of venture capitalists would be most interested in this type of invention.

The next day an e-mail laying out the next steps that needed to be taken and how to go about it was in my email box. I found what I was looking for, the person with all the knowledge that I was lacking, and he took me by the hand and led me through it. If you'd like to contact Don by e-mail, you can reach him here, DonDebelak34@msn.com .

5 out of 5 stars One Year is Pretty Iffy, but the Rest is Dead Right.......2005-08-20

Getting a product to market in a year may (note MAY) be possible if a bunch of things go right. This makes several presumptions that have to fall in line exactly right. For instance some products (like in the medical field) take longer than a year to go through the approval cycle. Electronics have to have FCC testing, perhaps CSA (Canada), all of which takes time. Plastic parts may have to have a mold made, that takes time, and if it isn't right the first time, well you get the idea.

What Mr. Debelak says is that if you start from day one with the right product, use some of the new techniques he talks about (outsourcing the production to a contract manufacturer for instance), then if all the gods are smiling at you, maybe you can do it in a year.

Ignoring his one year time frame, his book is right on the money in a lot of areas. His practical advice on patents is dead right, they may or may not be of value to your particular venture.

His comments on financing are excellent, but here you're going to need a good bit of luck. There are a lot of people looking for financing.

In fact, everything about starting a new product require a good bit of luck. Just remember it's been done before, and it will be done again. Here are a good set of guidelines to get you started.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Book with a Timeless Lesson.......2007-09-24

Sure the figures and numbers are old, but the idea is the same and it can still be done! You can retire at 35 if you open your mind! 500,000 was a whole lot more back then than it is now, but even with higher prices I certainly know I will retire when I get that much and retire well, before I am 35!

5 out of 5 stars Follow Your Dreams.......2006-08-21

The reviewer who pans the Terhorst book for being out of date misses the point. Of COURSE the book contains out-of-date financial information--it was written in the 1980s. The point of this book is living your dream, and the Paul Terhorst presents a blueprint of how he and his wife, Vicki, followed theirs. I agree that if you want current investing advice, other texts would better suit, but for an inspiring journal of how one couple changed their lives, this is a wonderful book.

1 out of 5 stars Worst book I've read.......2006-03-11

I saw a person online recommend this book and I read a lot of financial books and never heard of this book, so I thought I'd give it a try. I only could read half of the book and refused to read anymore. This is the first book in probably 5 years that I couldn't read the whole book, becuase I felt it was a waste of time.
First the author says we should all be renters. Second he only advocates using CD as your investment. Then he talks about places that have a lower cost of living. What was considered lower cost of living in 1988 will not apply to 2006. Also the CD rate of 8% does not currently apply either.
The book really doesn't teach you anything that you probably don't know from reading these other reviews. Save your time and your money. I read my copy from the library, but I want my wasted time back.

5 out of 5 stars Fifteen Years Later, He's Still Retired.......2003-12-24

This book, along with Your Money or Your Life, changed our lives. By following the advice outlined in these two books, we were able to quit our jobs in our forties and pursue other interests. We have been free of the daily grind for over four years now, thanks in part to Paul Terhorst, Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez (authors of YMOYL).

In a conversational style, Terhorst explains how he realized his job was sapping the life out of him, and how he used his skills as an accountant to devise a plan that would enable him to retire at 39 years of age. Unfortunately, the specific financial advice he gives (invest in high-yield certificates of deposit) is no longer possible. But number-crunching is not the most important message that Terhorst has.

Cashing in on the American Dream advocates a no-nonsense approach to determining just what you want in life. Do you want to be free of working for others? Then it might mean giving up your car and dinners out. But it doesn't have to mean giving up what you really love (or need). Terhorst and his wife, Vicki, have been retired almost twenty years now and have spent much of it traveling the world. They have health insurance abroad, because it's cheaper than U.S. insurance, and better.

The Terhorsts have their own website and I like to check in on them once or twice a year. The fact that they have made their plan work all these years is more important than any advice they have. Cashing in on The American Dream is an inspiring book. If they could do it, why can't you?

5 out of 5 stars A Classic on Early Retirement.......2003-09-03

Tired of life on the corporate treadmill, Paul Terhorst retired from his Accounting career at age 35.

The main premise of this book is that by tapping into equity you may already have (like your house), and keeping your expenses at a reasonable level, you may find that you are closer to retirement than you think.

A key component of Mr. Terhorst's philosophy is appropriately entitled "Don't work for your Assets". When you consider the amount of money that many of us spend on property taxes, car payments, car insurance, expensive toys, swimming pools, etc., who are we really working for? Are we working for ourselves or simply supporting our assets? His solution to this situation is to calculate how much those assets would be worth if they were converted to cash. When he went through the exercise for himself, he realized he had enough money to retire at age 35.

Many years after retiring and writing this book, Mr. Terhorst and his wife are still retired, doing what they want each day, instead of slaving away from 9 to 5 for someone else, which is a testament to the effectiveness of his early retirement philosophy.

An excellent book. Highly recommended.

It’s time to cash your reality check and re-create your life on your own terms.

In your twenties you expect to finally live life on your own terms. But it can seem like the world won’t cooperate. Jason Ryan Dorsey helps you turn this coming-of-age crisis into opportunity. He shows you the big secret of the real world—that you don’t realize how much control you have over your life until you use it. In My Reality Check Bounced! Jason shows you how to:

Find the courage to climb out of your real-world rut

Uncover opportunity and build a tag team to make the most of it
Live like you mean it, and finally cash your reality check.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Book.......2007-07-22

Awesome book. I have found what I want to do and I am in my 20's and I found this book very valuable. I have highlighted 20 different pages with key points and lists for me to remember while facing challenges or examining opportunities. Dorsey is the new Covey for 20 somethings.

5 out of 5 stars Beyond A Book For 20-somethings, It Is A Book For Everyone.......2007-05-31

Everybody at any age can benefit for the advice in Jason Dorsey's "My Reality Check Bounced". The book gives great advice to anyone who feels trapped in a "rut" who needs to take control of their life and achieve the success that is their destiny. Discovering what you want, creating a plan, taking action, finding the right people to help you along your journey, overcoming fears, and always acting with ethics and integrity are just a few of the lessons in this book.

Dorsey does a masterful job of sharing his personal story as well as the touching and useful experiences of others who have created the life they now live (and love!). The book is written in an easy to read and conversational style and should be read by everyone just out of college or beyond. However, reading the book alone will not produce results....the reader must take action to cash their reality check!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2007-05-25

Found this book an interesting read. Great for young folks starting out and older ones that have lost their way.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!! This book helped me in 15 minutes!.......2007-05-18

My only complaint: it's not only for 20-somethings! This book has so many great ideas of things I started doing the SAME day I read the book. I gave the book to my 40-year-old brother, and he learned great ideas in the book, too! And they're simple, and easy, and make total sense. AND THEY WORK! It's been one month, and already my boss treats me better, I'm making smarter decisions at work, understanding the whole system, and learning the right way to get what I want from my career. Thanks!!!

5 out of 5 stars Don't pass it up!!!.......2007-03-13

Being a twenty something my self i found this book extremely helpful!!
I have read all of Jason's books and loved them just as much as i love this one. I found my self reading his book with a pad of paper, taking notes on everything i should do to be succesful. Jason Dorsey is a brilliant author. He knows the perfect things to say to get you up out of your seat wanting to be a succesful person in life. Jason gives step by step suggestions on what to do to become succesful and how to enjoy it at the same time. I never thought checking out books on how to start the business of your choice would be so helpful. What a simple but perfect idea!
I disagree with John 100%. Jason's stories and his challenging backround has inspired me to be determined in all aspects, a long with hundreds of other twenty somethings. The way he uses these stories is a perfect way to explain his message.
Jason's book inspires you to be outgoing to make this tag team he talks about. The point is not how many people you know. It's meeting new people and expanding your network. Im not yet twenty years old and in the past 2 and a half years i have met hundreds of people whom i network with on a regular basis. So lets face it, John, your statement about twenty somethings not knowing "that many people" is a very weak arguement.
This book is a PERFECT book for ANYONE working to become happier and more succesful in life. I recommend you buy this book and share it with all your friends and family. You will not be dissapointed!

3 out of 5 stars a bit dated but the advice is right on target.......2003-07-04

How would you like to save anywhere from 45% to 90% of costs on groceries on a consistent basis? How would you like to be able to walk into a grocery store with a $5.00 bill and come out with over $100.00 in groceries? Does this sound too fantastic to you? If it does, you need to read this book and practice the methods given.

Susan J. Samtur gives good advice on how one can save a tremendous amount of money on groceries and earn untaxed income through rebates. The advice she gives is nothing new but so few people follow it. Either out of laziness or skepticism, coupons are underused and misunderstood as are rebates or refunding. In her book Susan J. Samtur details how she is able to earn about $1500.00 a year through refunding and consistently saves between 30% and 45% off the regular price for groceries. She also explains how anyone can save as much or more than her through strategic couponing and refunding. She clears up many misconceptions and myths like "Discount stores are cheaper", "store brands are cheaper", "you don't really save that much on coupons".

In the age of the internet, some of the methods she mentions are more or less obsolete. On the other hand, she can and will save you a lot of money on groceries if you follow her advice. I'm living proof that her methods work because I've tried them and have been able to walk out of the grocery store paying a little over the sales tax on brand name products.

5 out of 5 stars It started my addiction.......2002-01-27

It is not just saving money...it turns you into a coupon addict, a money-saving freak!! Then you try to turn your friends and family on to it. I am currently starting a coupon club because I bought this book 9 years ago, I am now buying it againt to pass on the information to my club members (my book keeps getting passed around and never returns to me!)
