Case studies galore.......2005-08-02
This huge text is divided about half and half between the strategic management teaching material and the case studies that allow analysis and application of the material.
The extensive and detailed case studies contain a wealth of material I felt could be quite useful outside the class. For example, in researching the case study on Eli Lilly I felt that I had learned a great deal which would give me an extreme advantage over other applicants for a position with that company, a local employer in my field.
Being knowledgeable regarding a company's industry, competitors, the relevant macroeconomic forces affecting them, and specific issues facing them, etc gives an interviewee a distinct edge.
The studies themselves, while raising questions, also contain a LOT of information in and of themselves that is valuable.
I felt that the teaching part of the material was well-written and detailed. For the interested reader, it could easily serve as a self-teaching aid. For the student who has the benefit of a teacher lecturing along with the book, even the compulsory student will learn valuable concepts.
All the tools necessary to benefit from the opportunities represented by the case studies are provided in the text.

Good.......2007-01-29
This was a good review only in that it did not come with the workbook I needed for the class as well. If the workbook would have came with the book then I would have rated it a 5.
A great book.......2006-07-16
I have been an auditor for the last seven years and I can assure you that Prof. Arens book is excellent. Even if you have a working experience with audits you will find that this book is not the usual "text book"
Very good textbook.......2005-06-24
No textbook is really worth 5 stars, in my estimation, because that is reserved for books that actually entertain me! Textbooks seldom do that. However, this auditing text is pretty darn good.
Each chapter is packed with true case studies, which are all interesting. The actual text material is easy to understand and read. There are HOARDS of questions, simulations, etc. in the back of each chapter. And the online materials the come with it are good as well, including some basic videos.
I came into my auditing class with little knowledge of that specific subject. I felt I left it some weeks later with a good understanding (good enough to pass the Auditing portion of my CPA exam on the first go around). So if you're assigned this text for YOUR auditing class, be happy. It's pretty good, and won't put you instantly to sleep...not many texts can say that!!

General Ledger Software (3.5 Windows) for Duchac/Reeve/Warren's Financial Accounting: An Integrated Statements Approach, 2nd
ASIN: 0324312113 |
Book Description
Duchac, Reeve, Warren provides an effective new approach to help accounting majors and business students learn and understand financial accounting. The text introduces an integrated financial statements framework that clearly illustrates the inter-relationships between the cash flow statement, income statement and the balance sheet. This integrated framework focuses on providing students with a sound understanding of how the financial statements work together to provide a picture of a company's financial performance, while at the same time teaching students the impact of transactions on the financial statements. This methodology offers a blend of concepts and procedures, which helps students get to the "ah-ha" moment in accounting education sooner by focusing on how the financial statements come together BEFORE introducing debits and credits.

The Basic Practice of Statistics, Third Edition
ASIN: 0072857838 |
Book Description
This textbook integrates financial and managerial accounting as opposed to keeping these areas separate, the approach followed by most books and curriculums. By "integration", we mean the authors focus on the business process and examine the activities from both an external, financial reporting perspective and an internal, management decision-making perspective. The text incorporates real world applications, including actual financial statements, to reinforce the relevance of topics to real business situations and promote student interest. The text also promotes active learning through
Pause & Reflect "probing" questions placed sporadically throughout each chapter,
Of Interest boxes that provide additional information relating to the chapter concepts, new
Fast Fact boxes that provide additional information related to chapter concepts in a short, trivia-like manner, and
end-of-chapter group exercises.
There are three key distinctions to the Ainsworth/Deines approach. They are: 1. Integration - described in preceding paragraph. 2. Within the context of business processes, Ainsworth/Deines is organized by
planning for activities,
performing those activities (in other words, capturing them in the financial statements), and finally,
evaluating those business activities. 3. An organization around the Statement of Cash Flows first focusing on Operating Activities (what is my business, my product, who are my customers?) and then Financing and Investing Activities (how do I fund my business, how do I expand, what are the financial risks, etc?).
Customer Reviews:
just not that great.......2006-10-06
This book falls way short in providing adequate examples and leaves you guessing many times on how to handle cetain scenarios.
Just in time.......2005-09-23
I was to be in college two days after I ordered this book and it showed up in time that I got to take it with me to college instead of my mom having to send it to me from home (about 600 miles away). Thanks y'all.
Great Accounting Book.......2004-12-02
This is a great accounting book for any entry-to-intermidiate-level accounting class. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs good definitions, as well as numerous examples and exercises at the end of each chapter. Due to the volume of the chapters, it is usually taught for 2 semesters.
It would be difficult if used w/o prior knowledge in the accounting field, and w/o an instructor.
You definitely need online access to the additional tests, tables...information.
Hope that helps!

Not a lot of diagrams to go on-but it is still worth the price.
