Great Seller. Fast shipping and the textbook was as described. Thanks!
Easy to read. Easy to understand. Thorough........2006-07-19
I would have given it 5 stars if the price was lower, but that's what you get for text books these days. It was still cheaper than buying it at Berkeley's bookstore.
I found this book to be very informative and well written whith good flow and easy to understand examples. The author brings current events into the world of Microeconomics, and allows the reader to understand the underlying mechanism that drives the decisions we make. When used in conjunction with a class, or by itself, this book provides the novice with a thorough understanding of the principles of Microeconomics.

Book Description
These two highly-respected authors have revised this best-selling book to include more current, modern subject matter and events while maintaining those features that have contributed to its great success. It continues to use stories, graphs, and equations and a unified, logical organization to make economic concepts easy-to-understand and relevant to all readers. Users of this book see the connection between growth, trade, comparative advantage, and the production possibilities frontier. When readers understand how a simple competitive market system works, they are ready to focus on problems of real-world markets.
Currency data has been updated through the second quarter of 2003, with coverage of deflation, the effects of the war with Iraq and the war on terrorism, and the wars' impact on the national deficit. A comprehensive overview introducing economics begins the book; subsequent topics include: foundations of microeconomics: consumers and firms; market imperfection and the role of government; concepts and problems in macroeconomics; the goods and money markets; macroeconomic analysis; and the world economy.
An excellent desk reference for economists; this book will serve any business owner, as an understanding of basic economics will prove helpful in all ventures.

Good combo.......2006-02-08
This review is for Principles of Economics (7th Edition). I actually bought this book instead of Principals of Macroeconomics which looks almost the same. After I received it, I realized it was the incorrect book. I went the publisher's website and did some research. This book includes all the information I needed for the Macro class. It also contains the full contents of both the publisher's Macro and Micro books. Turns out this book was a great book to keep for future references.
In addition to this being a great find, this book is very well written and I had no trouble understanding all the points.
Student's opinion of this book.......2005-09-11
From a first-time macroeconomic student's point of view, this book sucked. The glossary was very poor making it troublesome to look up unfamiliar terms. Each chapter makes frequent reference to charts and graphs that are located several pages away, causing you to have to shuffle back and forth between pages, trying to decipher difficult new concepts. This book also assumes some prior knowledge of economic concepts, and moves very quickly through progressively more complex material. Thumbs down from a new student's perspective.
Excellent book for economic students in their first year.......1999-05-04
This book presents and explains both Micro and Macro Theory in a very friendly way. It explains step by step the functions of the micro and macro theory and describes the fuctions of the instituions and organizations involve in the economy as a whole. It gives historical background, which many students look for in order to understand how? why? who? the study of economics. Besides it explains really well the economic terminology introduce as you read the book. Finally the book presents current event cases through the chapters which are related it to the ideas presented in the reading.

Customer Reviews:
Better textbooks exist..........2004-03-23
While experimenting with different textbooks for my Microeconomics classes, I decided to try the O'Sullivan and Sheffrin text. That experiment lasted two semesters.
Portions of the textbook are written at levels which are too low for college/university students, while other portions expect students to go beyond the scope of the material covered in the text. For example, in the chapter on demand and supply, surpluses and shortages are never referred to as such. Instead, they are only referred to as 'excess supply' and 'excess demand'. Too simplistic of a definition is also used for opportunity cost.
At the same time, additional problems inserted near the end of each chapter (not the chapter problems themselves), require students to apply the theory in a way that isn't taught in the textbook. Any student who has been required to complete these questions, on the basis of the textbook alone, may have experienced a lot of frustration from attempting these problems.
In addition, the textbook presents a detailed theory of taxicab licensing, yet doesn't completely explain all of the needed theory (short-run and long-run) for the market structures (pure competition, monopoly, etc.) The explanation of taxicab licensing is poor, for this level of student.
For any professor considering adopting this textbook, the testbank offers some very good questions. However, apparently some of the questions have been changed, perhaps from an earlier edition, but the answers haven't been. Overall, there were more errors in this testbank than in others I've used.
To anyone required to purchase this textbook for a course, I would recommend purchasing or borrowing other textbooks to supplement this text. If someone wants to learn Microeconomic theory on their own, there are better books available.

Book Description
Applauded for providing the most clear and accurate presentation of advanced microeconomic concepts, Walter Nicholson brings us Microeconomic Theory: Basic Principles and Extensions, 8e . It gives readers the opportunity to work directly with theoretical tools, real-world applications, and cutting edge developments in the study of microeconomics. Reviewers exclaim, "Nicholsons text is solid, rigorous and comprehensive. It is sensibly challenging for students, best serving students with a mathematics background, and absolutely essential for those who are preparing for graduate studies in economics."
Customer Reviews:
Good intermediate micro.......2007-04-24
This book is very well structured and makes your troubled economist life easier. You definitely need math knowledge but Nicholson explains difficult concepts in a masterful and understandable manner, so the ideas are easier to understand. I would say it is between Varian and Mas Colell. The first part is abundant in relevant examples (it somehow dwindles after) and the questions at the end of the chapters are quite useful.
Very good intermediate book.......2006-12-21
It is very good textbook to learn microeconomics with intuitions and methodology. But, some people are comparing this book with Mas Colell. Nonsense! Mas Colell is a PhD level, pretty technical, "heavy duty" book. This book is an intermediate level book for senior undergrads or master students. On the other hand, Binger&Hofmann's Microeconomics with Calculus book is better then this, in my opinion. It has less story more information. This book spends lots of lines to explain some small points which is boring for someone who should know these stories before starting graduate studies. But it is more comprehensive than baby Varian. Some departments are using Pyndick's book, but I didn't use it. I believe that Binger&Hofmann is the best in this category if you wanna learn Microeconomics using mathematical tools.
Pretty good book........2006-11-10
the shipping was alright.. the book is new and pretty good. happy with it overall..=)
Very Good Overview of Micro Theory.......2006-11-10
After using this book for a math-intensive micro theory course, I would heartily recommend Nicholson's text, which is written clearly with relevant examples and straightforward, useful problems at the end of each chapter. The book is very math-intense and requires a good knowlege of multivariable calculus, but since the reader is probably buying this book for a class, he or she most likely already has the mathematics background necessary. Thumbs up.
Not such an easy read.......2006-10-18
Okay book, not the best read, but better than the Mas-Collel green books. This book gives a lot of info on theory but I thought it lacked wrt practical (applied examples). Used for a graduate level course in Micro Econ. My particular course is very hard (this class serves both graduate and PhD Finance students) so needless to say, I am ordering the workbook to help me survive!

Book Description
This microeconomics text is well known for using the Keynesian model in the teaching of economics; yet in recent editions, the authors have expanded coverage of the growth model considerably to achieve more balanced coverage. The text uses the aggregate supply/ aggregate demand model as a fundamental tool for learning macroeconomics. It achieves the right level of rigor and detail, presenting complicated concepts in a relatively straightforward manner and using timely economic data. Using puzzles, issues, and well-developed examples, the authors provide a good balance of theory to application. Homework Xpress and Aplia are available with the Anniversary Tenth Edition and two new sets of end of chapter questions have been added as well to help students prepare for exams: ?Test Yourself? and ?Discussion Questions?.

Book Description
In writing this textbook, Mankiw has tried to put himself in the position of someone seeing economics for the first time. The author's conversational writing style is superb for presenting the politics and science of economic theories to tomorrow's decision-makers. Because Mankiw wrote it for the students, the book stands out among all other principles texts by encouraging students to apply an economic way of thinking in their daily lives. Receiving such a praise as "perhaps the best ever" textbook in economic principles, it's no wonder Mankiw's prize project has quickly become one of the most successful books ever to be published in the college marketplace.
Customer Reviews:
principles of microecon. Sir Mankiw you are brilliant.......2006-07-02
When i entered college i had no previous background of economics as i was a biology student, the only one in my batch.I was perturbed as to whether i would be able to understand college level eco but i was absolutely overwhelmed after studying this book.Kudos to Mankiw. It is extremely interesting as it is written in the form of a story.Cause of this i love econ...also hope to study under Mankiw later..a true inspiration.I reccomend this book to all econ starters. It is truly essential.
Its good.......2006-03-24
I like it becuase it is easy to use and has a website that goes along with it so that if you buy the book you gain access to the website for more information.
5 stars relative to others.......2006-01-13
It is not a perfect book, as I don't think there is one yet, but it is very good in explaining things. There are topics missing or that could be explored deeper/better/more accurately. And I also don't completely like the organization, but it is the best for students in general microeconomics course. If you are a business/econ/finance student, there are probably better books (I like hubbard/o'brien and krugman for these cases).
Silberberg's 4th Edition much much better.......2005-12-11
The 4th Edition of the Principles of Microeconomics by Eugene Silberberg, which I can't find on Amazon.com, is much much better at teaching the underlying issues. Mankiw can't resist interjecting personal political views (blatantly conservative) any chance he has. While Silberberg can hardly be classified as anything but conservative based on his writing, he emphasizes facts over politics, a lesson that Mankiw needs to learn.
Principles of Microeconomics, 3rd Edition, by Mankiw.......2005-05-11
This is an excellent high school level introduction to economics. It's an extremely easy read and does not tax the reader whatsoever. Speaking of taxes, behind the author's breezy prose is a very anti-government and anti-tax view, which works well in today's environment. There's not a single example of government doing anything right in this text. No "Harvard liberal" line here. It's hard to imagine using this book as a springboard to more substantive books, but one has to start somewhere. Excellent for what it is.

Customer Reviews:
Principles Of Microeconomics.......2004-03-05
This book helps me alot in my jop and in my life.
About the mathematics used in the book.......2000-04-14
Mathematics is used broadly in the book but limited to simple algebra, i.e., no calculus is used. So the level thus is appropriate for an introductory economics class.
Reading level of the book.......2000-04-14
The text is of medium reading level, although sometimes the extensive introduction to terms is unavoidable in introductory texts. That is to say, we can find pages with five or six terms crowded together, but that's what happens to almost every introductory textbook and generally expected when you touch a new subject at the first time.
General Orientation of the book.......2000-04-14
The general orientation of the book is theory with applications, and the authors seem to emphasize the real-world application a lot.
More international materials.......2000-04-14
As the economy goes global, we'd tell our students more about what's going on around the world. In the last part, International Economics, the authors not only address the traditional topics in international trade but cover the economic growth in developing nations, transition economics, and alternative economic systems as well.
But for some unknown reason, under the topic of "a new world trade agreement: GATT and the final act", the authors failed to mention the WTO which came into existence on 1 January 1995 as a fruit of Uruguay Round negotiations (1986-94).

Got here pretty quick, just a day later than i expected but got here during syllabus week so it was all good... perfect condition and great service... highly recommended...
Econ Profs, Start Here First.......2001-12-01
This is one of 2 books I kept from my four years in college. It is also the book that helped me choose Economics as one of my minors. It's that good.
Gottheil's models (actually, he really only uses one model--a fishery) are almost absurdly easy to follow. Along the way he takes concepts a student would find new and difficult, and makes them into concepts a student can follow, and in my case, enjoy. I whole heartedly reccomend this title.
Principles of Microeconomics by Gottheil = SIMPLICITY.......2001-05-19
I have now had two course in economics - Principles of Micro. and Macro., both classes required the use of the priciples books by Fred Gottheil. My professor was a student of Mr. Gottheil and described his classes as clarifying. She said that he made economics easy to understand. This book by Gottheil, as his class, is also easy to comprehend. The topics are confusing to a newcomer of economics but the style and clarification used makes the principles quite simple.
Easy to Understand Economics??.......2001-05-17
You're absolutely correct!! I was a student of Prof. Gottheil the first year he released this book. The teachings of the book make Micro-Economics both easy to understand and enjoyable. I've recommended this book to both undergrads and MBA students alike, and have not received a single complaints (but have received much praise).
