Book Description
Dr. Patti Feuereisen has been working with teenage girls for twenty-five years and has been a pioneer in helping abused girls find their voices. What she discovered in listening to hundreds of girls was not only that sexual abuse of young girls is in fact epidemic, but if the abuse can be processed when girls are still young—in their teens and early twenties—remarkable healing can take place. Girls and young women who are given an opportunity to speak out will most often go on to thrive as adults; without such an opportunity the traumatic effects of their abuse will often continue to cause them difficulty long into adulthood.
Invisible Girls weaves together powerful first-person narratives with gentle guidance and seasoned insights to help girls through the maze of feelings that swirl around the abuse experience. This gives every young woman who struggles with the scars of sexual abuse the courage that comes from knowing that she is not alone, while other girls come out from behind the veil of secrecy to become vibrant, healthy, and whole.

Resourceful Book for Abused Teens.......2007-09-12
I am a clinical social worker in Louisiana. This book has been helpful for several of my clients. The book includes several girls' stories, which have helped to normalize my clients' experiences. It also includes a question/answer section that seems to cover many topics that teenage girls may be afraid to ask themselves. I also found the "Resource Center" at the end of the book helpful. Dr. Patti has a website and is resposive to questions via that site.
Terrific!.......2007-05-06
This is a wonderful and very helpful book. Dr. Patti is also a great person!

A special book just for girls!.......2006-07-31
This is a brilliant and inspiring book!! I would give it 6 stars. A big thank you to all the girls who came out with their stories about abuse, and a special thanks to Dr. Patti for her wonderful work. Her girlthrive website is also a great resource.
I highly recommend this book to anyone, survivor or not, we can learn so much from it and teach ourselves and others around us about awareness.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Social Worker's review.......2006-07-11
As an intern during graduate school, I worked with girls who had experienced sexual abuse/incest. In my attempt to read every book on the topic, I found Invisible Girls. I couldn't stop talking about it. I wanted all of my peers and colleagues to read it as well. This book is beginning to help me define my professional career path.
Superb resource for all - survivors and professionals.......2006-04-26
An excellent and invaluable resource to all who have been touched in any way by sexual abuse: this book is compassionate, insightful and healing in its portrayal and treatment of sexual abuse of children, adolescents and young women. The real-life experiences are presented in a way that is sensitive, thoughtful and wise. They will resonate with the experience of most anyone who has suffered the affliction and trauma of sexual abuse.
As a mature, adult male (in my 50's) who is the survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I was able to recognize my experience in the stories presented. Even more, it gave me the tools, skills and empathy to approach my sister who still suffered the debilitating effects of her own childhood experience of sexual abuse. This book and its treatment gave us both the courage and confidence to break free of the grip of secrecy so that we could approach our other siblings and begin a process of family healing.
Finally, as one who accompanies others as guide/director on their spiritual journeys -- I find this book invaluable - and highly recommend it as an insightful and practical aid in understanding and supporting those who struggle with the scars and unfreedom of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
Book Description
In the summer of 2002, a serial killer prowled the streets of Baton Rouge, preying on the city's best and brightest women. The authorities had a profile of their suspect. They were wrong. This is the shocking true story of the investigation that went awry--and the good old-fashioned police work that solved the case.
Customer Reviews:
An incredibly true tale.......2006-11-29
This book is the story of Derrick Todd Lee, a black serial killer. Stephanie Stanley, the author, got the idea to write this book from a source on this story. It was a good idea, as the other press on this story did not tell the background of Derrick Todd Lee. Mr. Lee was well known to the Louisiana police and had a long history of run ins with the law.
Ms. Stanley is a superb writer. I hope that I will be able to read more by her.
This is a tale of errors by the police and by the FBI. It is very difficult to read. It also saddens me, that due to errors in identifying Derrick (he was thought to be white, not black in the FBI profile, the police tended to look at the boyfriends of victims rather than the possiblity of a serial killer being loose) he was allowed to kill for longer than he should have been. At least the mistakes were not as bad as in the Coral Watts case (read "Evil eyes" by Corey Mitchell) and the Green River Killer case.
One of the most frightening books I have ever read.......2006-09-17
This is one of the best true crime books I have ever read. I am originally from Louisiana and currently live in Jackson, MS, the home of Murray Pace, so I have followed this case from the beginning. Ms. Sanders does an outstanding job of making one feel the outrage of the victim's families, and the failure of the legal and judicial system of La. - this man should never have been on the streets. Also, when the author writes about the victims and their families, she is very respectful and empathetic. I made the mistake of reading this book while my husband was out of town, and I was petrified. I believe every woman should read this book, in order to see how easy it was for this evil man to kill these smart, careful, and responsible women.
Gripping; Chilling.......2006-09-16
Stephanies book, An Invisible Man, is a spine chilling account of a serial murderer that should have been caught many years prior to his arrest, but due to poor investigative work was delayed many years. The book is superbly done and Stephanies ilk for detail and accuracy leaves nothing to be desired. I recommend this book to anyone with a desire for detail in real life crime.
dont answer the door.......2006-08-01
If you like true crime novels, you will really enjoy this one! After reading this, you won't answer your door again! This is about a serial rapist/killer who manages to elude capture by slipping through the cracks numerous times. You wonder how someone this obvious could get by for so long with stalking and murdering women in areas with very little crime. The killer becomes more and more frenzied and eventully is caught, but at the expense of many lives. Very good read!
The names that matter.......2006-07-11
Stephanie's writing style is engaging and assessible reflecting her reporter's roots. She has told the story of the horror and darkness which enveloped so many of us in those awful years with clarity and compassion. Even though I've spent much time trying to learn about Derrick Lee, I still learned many things about him from this book. Stephanie's book also reminded me that criminal profiling is only an "educated" guess of dubious worth and unexpected potential for harm; that the justice system is a system and all the parts need to work for justice to be anything but serendipitious; and - above all - that Derrick Lee should never, ever have been outside a prison when my child died.
P.S. Gina Wilson Green, Geralyn Barr DeSoto, Charlotte Murray Pace, Pam Kinamore, Trenisha Dene Colomb, Carrie Lynn Yoder, and Randi Meubreuer - these are the names you won't remember, but they're the names that matter.

THE book for healing childhood sexual abuse.......2000-06-10
Survivors of childhood sexual abuse, their friends, family, and anyone who works with survivors will use this book as a companion and guide to healing. Kritsberg honors survivors with his absolutely firm belief that each one has within all that is needed to heal. None of the myth that survivors must spend their entire lives dealing with the trauma of abuse lurks within the pages of this excellent book. Here, both survivors and counselors come heart to heart not only with the conviction that healing is within reach, but they also find tools for the process available nowhere else. As a survivor of sexual abuse and now one who helps guide others through their own healing process, I recommend this book to the people I work with and to those fortunate ones who can find a copy.
You can heal........2000-02-12
This is the most powerful book I have ever read. If you were sexually abused as a child, work with abused children, or are the spouse, friend or parent of a child who has suffered this trauma, please read this book. The power to heal does exist. You are not alone. This book contains many first-hand accounts of survivors, as well as deep insights into the healing process. Kritsberg's compassion, support, and guidence will empower you to move through your pain and onto the full, vibrant life that is your birthright.

Book Description
More and more questions have surfaced in the past decade concerning the wisdom and fairness of affirmative action programs. In this book, Lynch takes a hard look at affirmative action policy development and the social and ethical implications of a system that promotes gender and race as criteria for vocational advancement and educational opportunity. He focuses on the experiences of white males who have been victims of reverse discrimination under such programs and explores the lackluster response from government, the media, and employing institutions. Lynch examines the political taboo that for two decades effectively stifled discussion of the issues that affirmative action raises in both public discourse and scholarly analysis. He reviews the original ideals and purposes of affirmative action and contrasts them with the program as it has actually operated in everyday work settings. In case studies based on interviews and other data, Lynch assesses the reactions of white males to affirmative action social barriers, as well as their impact on co-workers, friends, and relatives. He describes the role of the mass media, the social sciences, and ideological elites in creating a conspiracy of silence concerning the hidden and unintended consequences of affirmative action policies. The only study that deals specifically with the impact of affirmative action on white males, this book is a "must read" for anyone who is truly interested in understanding the sociological, political, and psychological complexities of this issue.

Academe & the Politics of Race and Gender.......2007-04-18
The word "quotas" is largely avoided, because public opinion polls found that 80% of the public opposed them. Instead, we hear of affirmative action (AA), equal opportunity employment, and the goal of diversity in higher education and the workforce. AA at work in the workforce, & reverse discrimination suits filed by white males, are well-known and occasional news items; likewise, instances of white males passed over for promotion are also known. But the insidious nature of race-and-gender preference as the determinative principle in academic hiring has not received the attention it deserves.
Lynch describes how affirmative action began as a series of directives designed to encourage recruitment of qualified minorities and women. Under this version, women and minority applicants would compete on a non-discriminatory, colorblind, and gender neutral basis. Today, a more radical version of AA exists, in which women and minorities are to be hired in proportion to their numbers in the general population. What was once a temporary, transitional expedient to redress inequalities has become a permanent, institutionalized feature of academic hiring practices.
Proponents of AA identify white males as the past perpetrators of discriminatory hiring and promotion practices. That present day white males might suffer loss from AA seems justified. But as Lynch notes, older white elite members imposed AA quotas upon white, working, middle class baby boomers and, to a growing degree, their children.
The generational cleavage between white male perpetrators of discrimination and present white male victims of AA has been ignored. Why should the latter group redress historical inequalities an earlier generation created?
The hypocrisy of the whole situation needs to be underscored. The very universities that accept gifted students into their graduate programs--including many white males--were the first to shut out white males when job opportunities arose.
Part of the American dream is that education is the key to unlimited opportunities. But just be sure to check your sex and skin color first.
Affirmative Genocide.......2003-07-10
Frederick Lynch has done an excellent job of exposing the US Democratic party's betrayal of its's white electorate in enforcing Affirmative Discrimination without a mandate.
The lives of an entire generation of white American males were severly damaged by this evil and unjustified racial engineering program.Lynch goes on to ponder the seeming conspiracy of silence among the mass media and their refusal to highlight the plight of white male victims, even though there was no dearth of evidence.
However, as insidious as the the application of Affirmative Discrimination was in the US, it pales in comparison to what is currently being perpetrated in South Africa. For every white male job applicant in South Africa there are approximately twenty to fifty black applicants, yet it is the minority which legislation enforces discrimination against. The silence of the Western media on this matter(particularly the BBC)borders on the criminal.(The ANC controlled media does not deserve mention as it is merely a propaganda engine.)
Lynch details how American organisations applied an AA selection criteria which resulted in many meritous white applicants being arbritarily rejected.Instead of ensuring that all meritous applicants, regardless of race, be allowed an equal chance to compete, non-meritous black applicants were given preference over skilled white applicants - pure racial engineering. In South Africa the ANC uses demographic and occupational statistics in an attempt to justify its' heinous racial engineering agenda - this is not too different from the Nazis philosophy as expoused by Goebbels.During the Nazis invasion of Eastern Europe they were quick to identify those strategic political and economic positions which were held by Jews and to demand their removal and replacement with Nazis. This is the very same strategy being pursued by the racist ANC regime which demands that the majority of skilled positions available in the economy be occupied by blacks, and imposes substantial financial penalties, and refuses lucrative government tenders, to those organisations who fail to comply speedily enough. This effectively dooms an entire generation of young, white South African males to a future of poverty, regardless of their educational level. This is tantamount to ethnic cleansing and ethnic cleansing is Genocide. This, not crime, is the primary reason for the brain drain from South Africa as many white males would otherwise be reduced to the level of beggars.
While it is unlikely that any of the US Deomcratic party perpetrators will be brought to book, it is a neverending source of puzzlement to me that many white Americans continue to vote for a party which so blatantly sold them out.
Affirmative Action is a Gross Human Rights Violation and must be declared a Crime Against Humanity.
It goes without saying that its' victims should be paid substantial reparations for the economic, psychological and emotional trauma they suffered by having their basic human rights violated by Nazis style social engineering.

Book Description
Treating Survivors of Satanist Abuse defines, describes and deals with the clinical issues surrounding the treatment of survivors of ritual satanist abuse. Ritualist abuse is a double trauma--both a physical and mental torture--that is becoming increasingly more frequent and yet continues to face societal disbelief.
Contributors from the US and the UK--including Dr. Jean Goodwin, Pamela Hudson, Dr. Mary Sue Moore and Dr. Sandra L. Bloom--examine the historical foundations of this type of abuse, look at clinical accounts from both children and adults and trace the various ways in which victims communicate their horrific experiences. The book offers definitions of ritual satanist abuse and analyzes some of the reasons for societal disbelief. It also considers what changes have to be made in standard psychoanalytic psychotherapy technique to deal with such patients and discusses the ethical issues involved over confidentiality and initial professional action when child and adult patients are reporting the appalling crimes in which they have been involved.

An important book on ritual abuse.......1998-11-09
Valerie Sinasom is an english psychoanalyst who has worked with victims of ritual abuse. In this important anthology, she and the other authors have collected a lot of information about (satanist) ritual abuse. Most of the authors are psychologists and write from a psychological point of view, but there are other viewpoints as well. One of the best chapter's is probably journalist Tim Tates "Press, politics and paedophilia". He shows that the media instead of giving a balanced coverage all too often are engaging in one-sided campaigns against so called false accusations and avoid discussing evidence against those accused of ritual abuse. Treating Survivors of Satanist Abuse has many case histories and can be recommeded for everyone who want to know more about the terrifying subject.

Book Description
In 1997, more than 3.2 million abused children were reported to protective service agencies in the United States. In these pages are the intimate voices of survivors of the anguish of domestic violence and sexual abuse in the home the place that should be a haven of safety. There are also the voices that cry out from the pages of the Bible, giving witness to violence through the ages. Finally, there is the story of the authors own torment and horror-filled years and her healing road from victim to survivor through her faith in God and the will to live again.
From the introduction:
The people you meet in these pages will challenge your awareness and disturb your complacency. They will inspire your spirit and break your heart. Their voices will plead with you for compassion. . . . These voices will speak their deepest pain, and will dare us to hear with ears of compassion and then act with hands of determination. These voices will call Gods church, with confident voice, to the ministry of healing, for the wounds these survivors carry are the wounds that only Gods grace can heal.

Seeing Lives Change.......2000-03-24
As one who works daily with survivors of sexual violence, I know that the wounds they hold inside are deep and grievious. The trauma they have experienced is often too horror-filled to reveal. Speaking of it out loud seems impossible. I have seen the reading of this book empower them to open their souls to healing and hope. Our Sexual Assault Center recommends this book to those who come to us for help. In the pages of "The Survivor's Voice" they have found the strength to move on with life, because they read about the lives of real people who have experienced the kind of pain they have experienced. If your life has been devastated by sexual violence, please read this wonderful book. It is the best of its kind.
Findley's "The Survivor's Voice" Speaks for Silenced Victims.......1999-11-17
Of all books I've ever read, "The Survivor's Voice"is perhaps the most insightful. In her book, Findley shares thestories of innocent victims throughout the ages. From the age old tales of the Bible, to stories related to her by victims, to her own experiences, the author brings to life the silent fears and secrets of the Survivors. All men and women who have sustained these terrors and lived to never forget are given a Voice in Findley's book. I praise God for "The Survivor's Voice" and for the support and courage it can give us all.
For victims of domestic violence, this book is HOPE........1999-08-30
If you do not read another book this year, read this one. The read will break your heart and disturb your complacency, because it will reveal a well-kept secret: that a very high percentage of the people you know have been victims of sexual, physical, and/or emotional violence in their own homes. I work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and I know first-hand the depth of their struggle to survive and to heal. "The Survivor's Voice" is an incredible testament of a child's strength to survive abuse and an adult's courage to heal. Findley portrays the silence of her suffering, the long and arduous process of healing, and the HOPE that kept her going. As she tells her own story, she also tells the stories of several other persons who have experienced the terrors of violence and abuse. If you or anyone you know is suffering the indignity of violence in their own home, read this book. It is HOPE!
