One-Handed in a Two-Handed World.......2005-10-20
Very helpful--my 33 year old son had a stroke and this guide gave him more information how to do things with one hand. Also, shared this with his Occupational Therapist and she was very impressed.

Several of our strokesurvivor members/and caregivers have read this book and reviewed it. Our Strokesurvivors International website books page is http://strokesurvivors.homepage.com/BooksP/index.htm Our RN/Social worker (and a Stroker) wrote about this book: "I have read Living OneHanded in a Two handed World by Tommye Mayer several times and consider it to be my bible. The range of topics covered in this book is phenomenal! Until I found this book, the simple act of dressing myself in the morning became a battle with overwhelming frustration because I couldn't get my clothes on correctly. Simple tips in this book allowed me to master dressing myself with ease. And probably kept me from surrendering to depression by just staying in bed all day. I consider it a Must read for anyone with the challenge of having only one functional hand."
practical ideas.......2000-08-25
This book is a practical guide for managing one-handed. It's very concreteness is a refreshing antidote to the usual experiential approach and, besides, its helpful. While one could figure many things out on one's own, it is a good starting point that by its nature encourages the attitude that there are ways to do things. Also it is a guide to the kinds of gadgets that can be useful, especially for those whose one-handedness is more than a temporary inconvenience--knives, cutting boards, etc. My main quibble is with those parts that instruct in how-to,e.g., tie shoelaces. Like the usual how-to instructions for putting barbecues together, wiring stereo, systems, etc., they are hard to follow. The verbal instructions are accompanied by blurry photographs. A series of line drawings would have been better..I gave up in frustration and figured out my own method.

This book has been well received at the International Children's Amputee Network Web site....
There is a nice set of photos of how to tie shoes there, and discussion of this book. I'm glad this book is available.

A powerful book and more powerful message.......2001-10-14
All of Tom Brown's books are written on many different levels. As a just-starting-out naturalist, I read most of Brown's books with interest, but the deeper I go into the naturalist's world, the more powerful messages I get between the lines.
The book offers many insights on modern man- most of all, the notion that if one simply lets the world drift by, with all sorts of damage, trouble, etc. being done (mind you, yourself doing none of the actual damage), the message is clear- Why didn't you do something?
Probably the most powerful message in the book is, "There are no small things." To quote Bruce Lee, if you throw a rock into a pond, you get ripples- soon the ripples cross the whole pond. Every action we do has implications, good and bad. Make your impressions positive and beneficial.
For those lucky enough to attend Tom Brown's school, reading any of his books after taking a class- no matter how many times you read them previously- it's like reading an entirely new book. There are countless messages and powerful teachings in The Quest, and I give it my highest recommendation.
Man's Environmental Holocaust.......2000-11-01
Dear Sirs, I hope you reconsider your decision not to publish this review. On October 7, 1998, the NY Times reported on the biggest Ozone Hole yet seen. To quote the article: "Government scientists said today that the gap in the planet's ozone over Antartica was greater than the size of North America and was the largest ever observed." In addition, on August 13, 2000, a frontpage article in the Sunday NY Times reported on how a formerly benign fungus which has been found in the US from time immemorial was suddenly killing millions of acres of oak trees in California. The article ends on a puzzling note with scientist unable to explain why this disease had become so virulent. However, it is well known that UV radiation affects plants earlier than Humans and one documented effect of UV radiation is a weakening of the immune system. It is not a far stretch of the imagination to theorize that UV radiation may be responsible for this latest plant die-off. I hope you give these issues consideration. -----------------------------------------------------------------
Like many people, I used to read the grim newspaper accounts of environmental destruction and wonder what it all meant. Then, in the late 1980s Tom Brown published The Vision and in the final chapter of that book provided the first glimpse into a future most of us want to deny. Now here in The Quest, he lets out all the stops and makes plain for the first time that mankind may very well be doomed.
Brown reveals that as far back as 1962, Grandfather, his Apache Native American Teacher, had warned that the appearance of holes in the sky would mark the beginning of the end of mankind on Earth. Sunlight would become deadly killing everything it touched. Plants would shrivel up and die, crops would fail and starvation would sweep around the world. People would be hunted like deer for food. Many events would foreshadow the appearance of the holes but finally there would be a time of peace. This would mark mankind's last chance to reverse his endless destruction of the Earth. If instead, he concentrated on material gain, all would be lost and the end would come as surely as the Sun rises.
From this beginning, Brown takes us through a series of personal visions wherein he is transported to the future and sees for himself the horrors that await us. In one account, he visits a city where human limbs hang in shop windows and walking skeletons covered with sores roam the streets. Everything reeks with death and Brown watches as a roving band of armed men hunts down an abandoned child, and without remorse, guts and skins him like an animal. Brown makes it clear that this an America city and not some distant third world nation.
Not all the stories deal with the future. Brown relates his own efforts to deny what he knew and avoid taking up his Vision of teaching the ancient tracking and survival skills. At one point, he witnesses a brutal father rob his young son of a promising future. Grandfather then asks Tom what obstacles will stop him from fulfilling his vision ? The question is clearly not meant for Brown alone and foreseeing an excuse many of us will use to deny our share of responsibility Grandfather points to a graveyard and asks `what will be the measure of your life Grandson? Will it be a lifetime of meaningless toil or one filled with purpose and meaning?'
This is by far Brown's darkest book but how does one sanitize such a horrifying account? There is no science here and those who believe ozone depletion is a figment of some environmentalist's imagination would be better off reading God's Last Offer, by Ed Ayres. Mr. Ayres presents related doomsday scenarios but with the science to back them. To those who are sensitive to the Earth, however Tom Brown's book needs no proof. Its truth is obvious.
The only question left open by Brown is when all this will take place? The question is important because many people will shrug off this account as part of some distant future. Although this book does not provide a timeframe a little reading in the scientific press will. It takes thirty years for CFCs to waft through the atmosphere and reach the ozone layer. If all CFC production ceased today, and it hasn't, we would still face 30 more years of degradation. According to NASA, there is already enough CFCs in the upper atmosphere to blow away 70% of the ozone layer. Take a equal amounts of ozone and CFCs, expose them to ultraviolet radiation and one can easily measure the rate of breakdown. The answer you will find is that we have a mere score and ten years left.
Grandfather made it clear that once the holes appear there would be no physical way to heal the Earth. Indeed, Time Magazine writing in the early 90s said that `the entire world's fleet of 747s operating around the clock, 365 days of the year' could not replace a fraction of the ozone that has already been lost. But Brown does leave us with a ray of hope: if enough people become aware of what is happening, combined we can achieve what technology cannot. Brown is a great believer in the combined efforts of many people working together. Seldom does he speak of grand heroic acts. Each of us, doing a little, can achieve a lot. Be forewarned that if you read this book you will never be able to look at your children in the same way again. Most of us adults living today will not bear the brunt of this horrible future but our children and grandchildren will. If you read this book and do nothing, the Time of Peace will pass and you too, like Brown, will have to answer the screams of your children as they clutch at you in the grave yelling "YOU KNEW, YOU KNEW! WHY DIDN'T YOU DO SOMETHING?"
A unique culteral view of universal truths........1999-11-10
This book presents principles of growth that we find common across time and cultures. Highly recommended both as interesting reading material, as well as an opportunity to reconsider values, meaning (and all that other existential stuff) and our own perspectives through a differant path. In recent popular venacular, "getting out of the box" of western culture.
This book is INCREDIBLE!.......1999-06-12
I read a lot of spiritual books and I've read lot's of Tom Brown's books, but I have rarely been so blown away than I was by The Quest. For one, let me tell you that this book will scare the heck out of you. But at the same time, it is really shocking what Tom learned from the fear he had to face. While reading it, I was dying to be able to sit down and share with someone what I was learning. It will blow your mind and change the way you think about the Earth.
This book has been an incredible help and inspiration to me.......1999-04-04
I first read this book about 5 years ago. I thought it was great but I couldn't grasp alot of it. Then I re- read it after taking Tom's first philosophy class and it really hit home. It is a guide book for walking a spiritual path in modern society-which is one of the most difficult things any of us could choose to do. I've found that I get more from it every time i read it. The lessons go far beyond the words. It is an insiring work that shows the human side of the spiritual path. Thanks Tom. Thanks Grandfather.

Who but Matthew Fox--former Dominican priest, author of countless influential books such as Original Blessing and The Reinvention of Work, silenced by the Vatican for his controversial statements about creation spirituality, and now an Episcopal priest--would combine rave dances with a religious mass? And who else would now attempt such a distillation of the world's religions as this book brings us? Combining writings from a multitude of spiritual traditions, Fox here puts into practice the idea of deep ecumenism that he has been exploring in a series of books going back to The Coming of the Cosmic Christ in 1989. To accomplish this task, Fox focuses on four categories of spiritual inquiry that he sees running like a river through all spiritual traditions: how we relate to creation, to divinity, to ourselves (this includes topics such as meditation, art, ritual, sexuality), and, finally, how we relate to the future, a section that explores issues of service and compassion, justice and spiritual warriorhood. He then concludes with "18 New Myths and Visions" that summarize his central message.
Simplicity and clarity are the goals of this book. To achieve this Fox weaves his own brief commentary through a series of quotations drawn from a myriad of traditions. While it may be faulted by some for this method of making easy connections between traditions, the book serves its purpose as a kind of primer for deep ecumenism. It will be especially useful for those new to such ideas, and to those who might otherwise never meet Hildegard of Bingen and Julian of Norwich, Hafiz, and the Sufi Ibn Arabi--not to mention Thomas Aquinas, physicist Werner Heisenberg, and geologian Thomas Berry--all sharing each other's company. --Doug Thorpe
Book Description
Maverick theologian Matthew Fox brings readers into the common heart of the world's great religions, illuminating a "deep ecumenism" for seekers everywhere.
We get to the core of religion by going to the heart experience, Matthew Fox says, not by dwelling on doctrines that so easily divide even within religious traditions. In One River, Many Wells, Fox exhorts readers to embrace the common faith of deep ecumenism.
Fox masterfully distills the common principles of the world's religions, and shows exactly how the different fingers of world faiths connect to a single hand. Drawing on seminal quotes, lessons, and ideas from the great faiths, he demonstrates how each expresses a common goal and approach to life, and concludes the book with "18 New Myths and Visions" that will inspire readers to embrace deep ecumenism.
One River, Many Wells is an indispensable resource, envisioning a new and exciting way of faith that erases the lines of false distinction between religions and calls upon each of us to worship from our common heart.

Diverse Paths but One Experience.......2006-01-01
This book by Matthew Fox is a wealth of information derived from many sources, the Old and New Testaments (Bible), the Koran, the Vedas, African religious traditions, Native American, Celtic sources, and Buddhism. Writing it must have been a huge undertaking but amazingly, the information flows *naturally* as it reveals the outpouring of Spirit in the lives of mankind throughout the world and over the millenia. Many of the experiences described are words which attempt to capture Divinity at work through particular individuals, societies, and their outcomes. The book is an *essential* exploration of mankind's relationship to each other, community, the earth, and the cosmos. It is an exploration of the meaning of Life itself. Like a previous reviewer, I had difficulty getting started. Initially, I tried reading it straight through but could not. Gradually, at different times, glancing at the chapters, I felt a surge of energy. The ideas and concepts explored by the author set my emotions and mind at ease. Eventually, I was able to "plunge in" and "swim" through the material with relative ease.
The book is divided into five sections, "Relating to Creation", "Relating to Divinity", "Relating to Ourselves: Paths to Encounter and Enlightenment", "Relating to the Future: What the Divine is Asking of Us", and "Where Do We Go from Here? How Deep Ecumenism Explodes our Imaginations with Eighteen New Myths and Visions". Each section has further subdivisions where the author expands on specific themes, such as, Creation, Light, Community, the Names of God, Form, Formlessness, Nothingness, the Divine Feminine, Meditation, Mindfulness, Art and Ritual, Joy, Suffering, and Dying, Resurrection and Reincarnation, the Spiritual Warrior and other topics. Each theme is given a thorough examination connecting many different cultural viewpoints and providing unique insights. The author's vast experience in the realm or religion and personal enlightenment, along with his courage to tackle controversial subjects is greatly appreciated and admired.
The author's vision for mankind is very broad and inclusive ... he sees beyond the barriers of dogmatic belief, ritual, and any other differences that separate people. He gets down to *personal* experiences as expressed by the Great Spirit of Life in the vast expanse of time both from the past, in the present and future. The subject is spiritual expression in the lives of humanity and how the many different ideas and experiences have only One source. This is a very highly recommended book for anyone who is interested in comparative religions and spirituality. Also recommended is "One Heart" by Bonnie Louise Kuchler. Her book is an excellent source of quotations and meditations from different religions and spiritual practices. It is a less complex but similar work. Many readers who find Matthew Fox too deep would benefit from her book. Erika Borsos (erikab93)
The Universal Church of God........2004-09-20
Fox is giving the hounds of the status quo a run for their money with this near encyclopedic outline about fighting the good fight. Those with an open mind and heart will find much food for thoughtful contemplation here. Fox admits his book is in no way complete. That it is meant to be suggestive of what future Scriptures will and must contain; wisdom from all Wisdom traditions, a bias in favor of what we have in common; a religious humility that lets traditions other than our own speak for themselves; a use of primary sources; God as experience, not doctrine... Fox succeeds in his stated goal.
This book is an encouragement for fighting the good fight. For becoming a spiritual warrior. Anyone can be a soldier telling the Emperor or their Priest or their Boss what he or she wants to hear. Being a warrior means taking a stand. A warrior has a dignity a soldier never realizes. The warrior fights his holy wars with internal enemies before going on any external jihad. The enemies of personal pride and greed and such. Anyone can be a brute, or a terrorist, in the name of God or Country. Fox points out that even in Islam there is a distinction between a lesser and a greater jihad. The greater jihad being that struggle against one's own demons. As the Sufi mystic Hafiz states, battle without love, can render a person mad. As I like to say, it does not matter what a person believes if they don't have love in their heart.
With that said, "One River, Many Wells" is well worth the read. It is a very good outline to work from regarding one's own spiritual journey. Fox brings to light what Meister Eckhart said 700 years ago, "God is like a great underground river." Thus "One River, Many Wells" is short for One Underground River (Source, God), Many sacred Wells-religious traditions. Again, as I like to say, God speaks to anyone that will listen. To meditate is to dig one's own sacred well. Be still and know that I am God. There are no atheists in Foxholes.
What is he thinking.......2001-11-18
It's hard to tell where Matthew Fox is and where he is going. His books have been a trail of hit and, mostly miss, wanderings.
He recognizes a common source for spiritual reality. And yet he pushes an ecumenical (and even New-Age) agenda to try and mold all existing beliefs into a vision that it cannot be. 'Only if the religions of the world would stand together...' These religions are organizations with their own agendas and systems. Perhaps Fox should listen to the Dali Lami who said that ultimately there is no reconciliation between the *religions* of Buddhism and Christianity. There may be one spirit, but not a single religion or even meaningful coordination of them. (Vivikenanda says that would be very boring.)
Mysticism is the root of all real spiritual experience and Fox knows this. But each religion is an outgrowth (and hence not true development) of the founder who had the mystical experience. The goal of any true (spiritual) path is personal experience. Fox keeps attempting to join all religions (forms) into a great ecumenical mandala and this cannot be done. Personal experience is always unique. It is wisdom that we can see from other beliefs. But Fox keeps on pushing in yet another book.
To be perfectly clear, his inclusion of various spiritual and mystical source in this book is commendable. Everyone else is realizing wisdom of many sources so why not M.Fox. However his approach is always one of 'Look how great what I am saying is'. He claims great visions and breakthroughs for humanity if we will just believe what he is saying. Check his past books. He always does this.
The inclusion and recognition of various sources does not, in his writings, yield meaningful synthesis. This is because there is no coherent meaning to be achieved through shallow or 'deep' ecumenism (joining of outward forms). Neither by dancing, or having estatic sex, or by bringing in ethics or spirituality to work (all themes of his). Neither volumes of writing nor diversity of inputs has meaning on its own. There is no substantial vision presented in his works that rises above religion (form) and beyond his own (elevated) concepts of how things should be. His previous books have not resulted in major changes to society and it does not appear this one will have much effect either.
FINDING IT ALL IN ONE PLACE.......2001-09-03
I had a difficult time getting started in this book. I'd picked it up and put it down several times. But once into it, it was a pleasant surprise. I read about spiritual matters and paths of every religion and each reading talks of it's own spicific area of knowledge and experience. But Matthew Fox picks a subject and covers it from all angles, Jewish, Catholic, Islamic, Hindu, Buddist, Native American, African American, even the Celtic and the Goddess. It's a great book and a great read. And then you know why you like to study them all.
As complete a tome of spiritual knowledge possible.......2000-12-13
Matthew Fox has outdone himself with this work, taking similar themes from the works of mystics spanning diverse traditions. To those who are regular consumers of Fox's writings, this compellation provides a "Bible" for his idea of "Deep Ecumenism". It is as complete a tome of humanity's spiritual knowledge that I have seen on the bookshelf. The best part- Fox has included sources not just from typical religious sources, but from science and literature as well.

Dr. Adams brings back the personal touch we deserve and need.......2006-12-17
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (12/06)
Medicine became depersonalized when it became a business that no longer made house calls. The shift from a service oriented, patient first, one on one house call to the patient going to the doctor, took out a precious part of the healing process. In its place is an institutional concept where the patient comes second to business. "I think that the loss of the house call has been the biggest blow to the art of medicine in this century. Not only has the patient lost this precious attention, but the physician has not found a replacement for the lost intimacy."
"Extensive studies have found that, over long periods of time, nourishing elements--such as love, humor, wonder, curiosity, passion, forgiveness, giving, sharing, hope, enthusiasm, and joy--stimulate the immune system. They help our bodies fight infection, stimulate natural killer cells that fight cancer, and affect the general way we care about and for ourselves and others." Anger, resentment, guilt, loneliness, fear and boredom have the opposite affect. It is not the negative emotions that cause the problems. It is when we hold on to those emotions for long periods of time. "We must express each emotion as it comes up, but should not nurture or prolong the emotions that may hurt us."
Dr. Adams describes this book as a "visitor's kit." He's right that's just what this is. He realizes that the "kit" can and should be used for more than hospital visits; he suggests prisons, nursing homes or "any place people may be suffering and wishing they were elsewhere."
Among the things Dr. Adams discusses are faith, love, humor, curiosity and hope. The information presented in this book has meant much to me. I spend much time visiting in nursing homes. When I first began to make these visits I found it very difficult, I didn't know what to say or how to act. Soon I began to see not a patient but a person. I came to realize that they were people that needed a friendly touch, someone to address them by name and someone to smile at them. My visits are no longer something I dread. The residents and I truly enjoy visiting together.
"House Calls" is a wonderful book and Dr. Adams is a talented writer as well as doctor. It is written in an easy to understand manner and does not talk down to laymen, in fact it is pleasant reading. The cartoons by Jerry Van Amerongen left me laughing and add much to the text. The print is a good size and easy to read. It is with great pleasure that I highly recommend this book to everyone, physicians, nurses, and all humans. Dr. Adams' book should be required reading to all those in the health care industry. I'm glad I read this book I will be much more prepared by having my "visitor's kit."
Holistic Humor for Health and Healing .......2006-12-06
In this wacky book, Patch Adams joins forces with Jerry Van Amerongen to give the reader a practical guide in introducing laughter into the healing process. The book is divided into three sections. The first section is filled with thoughts on being well. Dr. Adams provides instruction on being healthy and then provides some action steps to assimilate faith, humor, curiosity, relaxation, passion, exercise, nutrition, friendship, service, and other positive values into your daily life. These guidelines are cleverly illustrated by Jerry Van Amerongen with one panel cartoons that bring home the message of the suggestion and motivate the reader to take action. Amerongen is the creator of the Ballard Street syndicated cartoon strip.
Section two follows the same format but offers suggestions on what the reader can do to make a visit in the hospital, to shut-ins, or someone in the community, beneficial and enjoyable for both parties. These steps are thoughtful, often neglected and easy to carry out. Again the impact of the action steps are enhanced and impacted through the humor of Jerry's cartoon illustrations.
Suggestions are also offered on how to be a good hospital patient, from gaining understanding by asking questions regarding your treatment, careful listening to instructions, and reflection on your life and what you have done and want to accomplish in the future. Van Amerongen's humor helps the readers accept the situation and are then motivated to make the most of their circumstances.
The third section deals with special concerns when visiting, children, teenagers, the elderly, mentally ill, disabled, and dying patients. These helpful suggestions make the impact of your visit pleasurable for the patient, the caregivers, and yourself. The cartoons help the reader visualize the words of the text.
Adams has also provided a very comprehensive bibliography entitled "A Booklover's Search for Understanding and Ideas."
Combining Patch Adams' philosophy of laughter in healing with Jerry Van Amerongen's humor was a stroke of brilliance. The combination has made this book an enjoyable read, and produced in this reader, many smiles, some chuckles, and hearty laughs. It also gave me a new sensitivity to the importance of "healing the world one visit at a time."
Changing the World by changing yourself.......2004-07-23

Dr. Adams is inspiring.......2004-02-13
People perceive barriers of all types. It is not uncommon to hear, "I don't have the time", "I don't have the money", and "I don't know how". Take the most basic context of Dr. Adams which is to help another person. Help can be listening, holding a hand, or laughing with someone. It doesn't mean one has to spend a great deal of time or money. Turn off the television and help your neighbor weed her flower bed. Take an hour away from having your artificial nails manicured and volunteer somewhere. I enjoy reading his inspired words and can only hope his visions become reality during my lifetime.
Doesn't work well to change my feelings........2000-03-19
From my experience, these kind of healing books don't work well to change my feelings and attitudes. They do have temporary effects, but do not last long. This book also was not the execption. There are many "Things To Do" which I should do right now to change my life. But I don't and can't do these "Things". Always when I read such kind of books, I am firm about trying to do these "Things". But I don't take a whim for reading these kind of books again and thus lose an opportunity to do good "Things" entirely. I think volunteering for building GESUNDHEIT INSTITUTE in WEST VIRGINIA and meeting PATCH ADAMS is much more effective than reading this book.

The Golden Ones: From Atlantis to a New World is the powerful true story of a woman who dreams about a stranger she will marry. After Carole Chapman meets and marries "the man of her dreams" she begins to realize that their soulmate meeting was merely the first step in an amazing cosmic adventure. She consults a hypnotherapist to reverse a sudden overwhelming weight gain following a miscarriage. Under hypnosis, she learns of past life reasons for overweight and suffering. In addition, she inadvertently stumbles upon her experiences with the Great Crystal in Atlantis and her part in the building of the Great Pyramid. She also encounters the Christ Consciousness and other higher beings. To her surprise, she is given a present-life mission of awakening "the Golden Ones" - souls who agreed in Atlantean times to reincarnate NOW to bring in a new world. She is to tell "the Golden Ones" the history of our souls on earth, including descriptions of "before time," Atlantis, ancient Egypt and pre-historic Yucatan. Included are glimpses of our future and predictions about the upcoming "Fifth Root Race." Shaken by her unusual experiences, Chapman travels with her husband to Mayan ruins in the Yucatan, where she finds confirmation of her extraordinary memories. Her narrative offers all readers a greater understanding of (1) the true reasons for human death and suffering, including the fact that death is really a "new thing" in our souls' history; (2) the amazing power of the unconscious, in which everything is already known to us and only requires our remembering; and (3) the reasons for our urgent need to live closer to nature in order to heal our planet while at the same time preparing us for the vibrationally lighter bodies of the new root race.

Spiritual Treasure.......2002-05-03
Carole Chapman's "The GOLDEN ONES" is a brilliant and inspiring gift to the World. It is overflowing with Spiritual Treasure. The Hope Diamond on a Spiritual Crown. It could well be the NUMBER ONE spiritual book of the year.
"The GOLDEN ONES" is one woman's journey into the subconscious and superconscious through hypnosis. Although her original intention was to lose weight, she uncovers, through three years of hypnotherapy regressions, the history and future of her own individual soul.
This is a POWERFUL book! Part adventure story and suspense mystery, full of Bibical references and New Age insights, it will appeal to many minds. We are kept riveted to our seats. As "The GOLDEN ONES" unfolds, we become aware that Carole's story is OUR story. "The History of the Soul" in the earth plane and beyond.
We are led, as Carole is led, through the soul's evolution and the five Root Races that Humankind (and Soulkind) has, and will, experience. The fifth Root Race is the promise of what is to come. THESE ARE THE GOLDEN ONES, who will bring love, kindness, and peace into the world.
We encounter, as Carole encounters, the never ending love and support of Jesus and Mary. The wisdom of the Christ and the counsel of the archangels Gabriel and Michael of The Mystical White Brotherhood. We hold our breath as we witness the struggle between the power of the Dark Force, Satan, and the Light. We are given an entreaty by Pan, who encourages us to work with the Nature Kingdom and tells us THE TIME IS NOW, AWAKEN!
This magnificant journey takes us to Atlantis and we witness it's downfall and the cause. We travel to Egypt to the mysterious pyramids of Giza where we discover their true age and purpose. We follow Carole and her husband to the Yucatan where they search for documentation of the regressions. All three places, Atlantis, Egypt, and the Yucatan are said to contain The Hall of Records, a recording of mankind's history.
Questions are answered that all spiritual seekers have asked throughout time. Suggestions are given on how to align ourselves with our Higher Source. THEY WORK! For those of a skeptical mind, this book is well documented with a myriad of religious and scientific sources.
Lynn Sparrow, the Master Hypnotherapist in this story, plays a quiet, supportive role. I was amazed at her hypnotherapy techniques, and her ability to lead Carole Chapman through Christ inspired questioning. One of the profound lessons gained is that when you get in touch with your Higher Self (however the technique), KNOWLEDGE, DIRECTION, and INSIGHT are available, and importantly, HEALING can take place. Lynn Sparrow writes a wonderful, not to be missed, FOREWORD for this book.
"The GOLDEN ONES" truly moves and inspires the heart and the mind. ITS INTENT IS TO GATHER THE FAITHFUL IN PREPARATION FOR THE NEW WORLD TO COME. Written with great love and humility. Carole Chapman has laid her soul open for all to see.

The Golden Ones is brilliant. I cannot imagine the courage it took to write this book. Every aspect of Carole Chapman's life was called upon to birth this poignant covenant ... and we are permitted to view the struggle of her body, mind and emotions, her earthly persona, as it is smashed into positions of deepest humility, shedding subtle skins of arrogance, that she might accept this daunting soul assignment! Carole's voice is genuine and wise as she begins to prod us from our dream of conscious life. Keeping us well-informed of her vulnerability and even disbelief, we are humored, yet find her feet firmly planted as this phenomenal story unfolds. Slowly we realize that we are not simply enjoying a dramatic adventure ... this is a sacred testimony that we have been called to hear! It is an epistle of enlightened facts, divinely inspired and beautifully written, providing astounding insights into our world's fundamental mysteries and our own deepest knowledge. This is A Call To Awaken ... a message from the Divine Brotherhood. It is powerful and miraculous and required a pure, raw commitment to Spirit to stand and profess!Einstein would listen ... and so will every open and golden mind. THE TIME IS NOW, AWAKEN!
The Golden Ones - A MUST READ for our Future!.......2002-04-06
With the help of hypnotherapist, Lynn Sparrow, Carole Chapman, while struggling with obesity, was enabled over a three year period to remember her lifetimes back to the beginning, including her lifetimes in Atlantis and Egypt, and to realise that her own three children, as well as many others she has come to know, are the beginnings of the Fifth Root Race. Those of The Fifth Root Race will be called on to deal with the Second Coming of the Christ, and the projected shifting of the poles of Planet Earth.
Carole's records of the occasion when the god, Pan came to visit her are most fascinating, as well as her being shown in a dream who her future husband would be. The personal support she received from Jesus, and the Mother Mary - and her encounter with Satan - as well as the heavenly angelic "Brotherhood" who were determined to make sure she would really write the book, are all significant parts of this wonderful story.
THE GOLDEN ONES is a MUST READ for anyone who cares about the future of the heman race in or on Planet Earth.
The Golden Ones.......2002-04-05
Our spiritual lives are made up of many avenues and angles and it isn't often that insight comes from the revelation of our journey concerning the importance of who we have been...who we are and who we are becoming. Carole's experience is both inspiring and thought-provoking. As long as we seek the truth about why we are here, it seems we have a chance to bring about changes that are needed not only for our own benefit but for the benefit of all life. Carole's experience validates many different paths...allowing the reader to learn the value of his/her own while sharing in hers.
It is an easy read but packed with wisdom about the spiritual importance of the years that lie ahead as we journey back to the Light.
Ask, and you receive!.......2002-04-01
I know I am not alone. I asked from a young age; what's going on? Why am I here? And I kept asking until, what I now recognize with hindsight, I was ready to hear! If you are in a place in your life, as I am, where the answers are coming to you in many forms, I urge you to read this book. It's a fun read and adds some awsome suggestions and insights to well known information. From A Course in Miracles to Ramtha, from anchient Aramaic scripture to current quantum physics, this information is available. I recognize that I am at my current level of understanding and considering all teachings, I feel this is a sincerely inspired work. Carol Chapman has bravely shared of herself and I am grateful for this gift to humanity.

Great resource.......2004-02-22
The recipes I've tried so far have been easy to follow and fantastic. For example, her Baingan Bharta was the best I have ever had. Madhur Jaffrey's book used to be my bible, but so far this is every bit as tasty but nowhere near as fatty.
She lists a lot of nutritional information for each dish too - including calories, fat, carbs (but not fiber -- you WW people will have to make an educated guess).
A wonderful cookbook.......1999-03-07
Ruth Law's "Indian Light Cooking" is my favorite cookbook. Ease of preparation, healthy recipe design, and a sincere respect for the cuisine are combined to produce a remarkable (and usable) resource. Highly recommended.
Book Description
An enthralling behind-the-scenes look at real veterinary emergencies
The Foster Hospital for Small Animals--part of the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and one of the most respected animal hospitals in the country--has opened its doors and collaborated on a book that reveals the everyday struggles and dramas at an animal emergency ward. Boston Globe reporter Vicki Croke has gathered the most gripping, fascinating, and triumphant stories of saving animals in times of crisis--from cats and dogs to iguanas and horses. This journalistic account delivers both heart-pounding action and heart-wrenching tales of loss and recovery--combining split-second medical decisions, cutting-edge veterinary medical technology, and the restorative power of the bond between pets and their owners.
Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine has the largest emergency medicine training program in the country. The only veterinary school in New England, Tufts treats more than 24,000 animals each year.

Fabulous engaging read!.......2006-06-07
This book is great! The author strikes just the right balance between sad and happy outcomes. She gives you a great peek into the amazing stories that happen every day in a busy animal emergency room. I laughed and cried and couldn't put the book down. I read this book aloud to my eleven year old son who also loved it.
Guess I missed the boat? Very disappointed, unusually boring!.......2004-06-17
I'm very happily working in a pet profession, I just adore the vet & pet shows on animal planet (from popped out eyeballs, to beloved sick iguanas) , and I am a big sap for animal stories and moving stories of any kind. I guess I expected this to be more stories (happy and sad, but moving), maybe even like chicken-soup style but longer? I was very disappointed. The stories were often short (sometimes 1/2 a sentence) and few between. Lots of vet perspectives on life, and personal vet perspectives on the profession, and worldly views of everything. I was really bored. I kept reading hoping for the next story to come, but I ended up reading skipping more than 1/2 the book because after a while I just couldn't read the quotes from the vets & techs anymore, and the lists of things they teach the other techs, and their years of schooling and personal experiences (educational & interests - not animal stories) was redundant and boring for me. The medical descriptions were not detailed enough to be educational orinteresting, and were too detailed that they distracted from the emotionality of just telling a story. I still have 20 pages to go before I finish, and I can't even remember the last story I was actually moved by (it was somewhere in the first 30 pages. The book is organized by "topic", but it doesn't seem to really have any flow (it went from dogs & cats to much less interesting stories of wildlife & exotics - which are usually very interesting, but they left out all the emotions other than "we eventually had to put it asleep, that was really hard". A few times they didn't even list the end of the story, or what decision the owner made for treatment - I really hate that (what happened to the kangaroos eyen cancer???)!
I'd really like to give this book 2 or 3 stars at least, because they really tried. They talked to may vets, and plopped in tons of quotes and lists of things they "learned" (quoted) from them. But I just feel so disappointed (more every time I try to finish it) that I can't. I've been a lot more moved by the cat behavior books I purchased at the same time - more stories, more details on personal emotions, trial and error, and results, and much more follow up to the stories.
I have to say I did like it when they listed the estimated prices for things. Although they did this infrequently, just for expensive procedures that may be ineffective. Sorry - I might recommend this book for the current used rate of under $2 if the shipping wasn't $4.99, but I can't justify $12.00 + shipping.
Biology Book Review.......2001-12-20
From an anorexic snake to a myopic kangaroo to a bloated akita, from the tricky diagnoses to the hopeless cases, this captivating paperback tells of the perilous situations that have occurred at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. Is it really right to spend all this time and effort on animals when some people lack food, shelter, and proper medical care? The veterinarians who unveil their heart-warming and emotional stories in this 194-page book, Animal ER, by Vicki Croke (copyright-1999) show us that the world is meant to be shared by animals and humans.
Each chapter of this brilliant book displays and describes a different animal/pet and its unique problem. Biology plays a major part in this book because it's about the science of studying and curing living things. It exposes the drama of life in the emergency ward of a veterinary hospital, which is a biology-related occupation. The first chapter summarizes the atmosphere of the Intensive Care Unit at Tufts; it's sad and yet successful too. The next eleven chapters of Animal ER present various animals and their life-threatening problems. Some require complex surgical procedures, while others are solved by unexpected and simple means. The last chapter returns to the Intensive Care Unit and reveals what the animals teach the veterinarians. The main idea expressed at the closing of the book touched my soul as tears rose to the surface like a newly found spring. Vicki Croke wrote that the animals who are cared for seem to teach simple lessons about life. "Animals continue to surprise me with their patience, their level of tolerance, and their strength," Nishi says, "but most of all, with their ability to forgive" (194).
I would strongly recommend this brilliant book to my friends or those people who are thinking of going into the veterinary field of study. Since I've never had a pet, I cannot relate to the owners of these sick animals; however, I can see this book as a slice of a veterinarian's life. It captures the essence of the Intensive Care Unit during first examinations, x-rays, surgery, and post-operative care. It is clear to see, as they treat animals, that Nishi Dhupa, Dr. Mark Pokras, Dr. John Berg, and other staff members at Tufts have the "healing touch". So even though some people don't have their primary needs met like food, shelter, and clothing, animals have a right to our care and concern.
Sad and Touching Stories.......2001-11-07
Animal ER is a marvelous book for anyone who has an interest in animals or the world of Vets. Most of this book showed how these vets work everyday, but it also touches on the emotional side of the proffession. Vets have to decide when to put an animal to sleep and when to give them extra treatment . They also have a responsibility to comfort the owners. Find out more about the world of the vet by reading this fantastic nonfiction.
A wonderfully compassionate Author and Compelling stories.......2000-08-31
When my sister lost her beloved Great Dane, I mourned for her too. I'm a cat person, and this big black incredibly sweet baby was the first dog I ever loved. When I visited my sister last year and she showed me this book, explaining that the author had been there in the Tufts Vet ER with her when Azaria was brought in, I was amazed. I continued to be amazed as I saw my sister's very special love for my doggy-niece through the eyes of a total stranger. It would have been very easy to dismiss how painful losing a pet can be, very easy to miss the ties of love between a pet and her owner. My sister loved her dog, quirks and fears and vet bills and all. I loved her too. Thanks, Vicki. Your gentle presentation of their story is the finest tribute Zari could have had.

Releasing Harmful Beliefs.......2001-11-26
This book goes a long way in helping to become aware of beliefs that we all hold about ourselves, our families and how life "should" be. The truth is that none of us can truly fulfill our destinies until we realize the untruths that dictate our behavior and thoughts. For anyone who has a desire to learn how to unblock the energy these false beliefs stifle, this is a great step in the process.
A must read in this time of pain and fear.......2001-10-17
In moments like this when all the world is facing so much pain, fear and caos, we all search for answers, we need to know why... I wish I had the power to put this book in the hands of each person on this planet.

Reflections.......2006-09-28
From Cindy Schreiner, Elementary Educator:
While in the company of Bee, I have always felt admiration, a higher presence and a powerful sense of calm and spirituality. Of course I would have never guessed that admiration could grow any larger until I read her book, Malawi Moonsmoke.
While having conversations with Bee, she would mention how she went to Africa but really never elaborated on the service that she did there.
When I learned that she published a book on her experiences, I was thrilled and immediately went to the bookstore to order it. I was there the day it was released, however the bookstore didn't have it yet and I had to wait for about a week before I could start reading.
The book is a description of how Bee and her husband, Ken started in a very remote village in Africa to help the natives learn about health care and found they learned much more than they taught.
The book was a joy to read and I finished it in one day. Even though I worked with Bee and thought I knew her, the book surprised me with her adventures. I thought that a person like Bee would have all the answers to any situation that comes up and the book showed me that she didn't know the answers, but that she would pray for guidance and direction. She writes about falling in love again after the death of her beloved husband and the tough decision to marry again. It was a wonderful experience to read about the romance of Ken and Bee and how romance does happen even later in life.
Bee describes her and Ken's adventures in Africa with flowing detail. I felt that I was living in the town where she was and got to know the people she worked with in the villages through her descriptions and details. I felt that I was with her when the border guards stopped her on the trip back from South Africa to Malawi carrying supplies. The way Bee described the patient with leprosy and aids made my heart break and I said a silent prayer thankful that Bee was there to help the lowest of low in such a remote place. She definitely changed the life of those poor patients. The creativity and strength she mustered in dealing with the villagers was really quite inspirational.
I am an avid reader and this book whetted my appetite for more true adventure stories from people who have made a difference. This book shows how people such as Bee and Ken who are doing something from the love in their hearts can really make a difference in a small village in Africa.
Bee and Ken are an inspiration to me, I know that I could never fill their shoes, but I know that I have a role model to follow in whatever journey my life takes.

African Adventuress in Child Survival - by The Woman Who Lived It!.......2006-07-03
Captivating stories of author's exciting spiritual journey in third world development, make this book a must read for all who care deeply for children who are at risk on this planet. As a professional nurse, the author volunteered to design, plan, implement and evaluate an interdenominational 3-year Child Survival Project. She skillfully weaves the story-threads into an almost palpable fabric of successful interventions.
Bee Biggs-Jarrell underpins the African mission with her personal experiences in her spiritual journey from widowhood through senior-citizen romance to selfless adventure in Africa. Great cross-cultural reading and a must for students of international health policy and third world development. Insights and ideas that worked in the African bush inspire similar models around the world.

Marsha endures a range of treatments including sweatlodges, marathon walking meditations, and a three-day dance-fast. Powerful, wise and humble. Couldn't put the book down........2007-10-15
I devoured this book, I couldn't put it down. It was so powerful and wise, I stopped a lot to deeply reflect on the content to evaluate my own life. It was so humble and refreshing. You must read this book.
WOW.......2007-08-30
Medicine Dance is so engaging and funny that I couldn't put it down. I hope Marsha Scarbrough is working on a sequel.
A Page Turner.......2007-08-30
Medicine Dance grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go until I finished the book. It's full of life lessons and laugh-out-loud humor. A great gift for your best friends - and yourself.
Cross-cultural handholding.......2007-08-08
Medicine Dance brings us to the brink of life and death, as author Marsha Scarbrough struggles to find a healing path. Her frank descriptions of the disappointing, dollar-driven efforts by supposed health care professionals reveals a society bereft of genuine concern and insightful solutions. When counselors check their watches and announce matter-of-factly "time's up" as the client sobs, when psychologists fail to make a "free" follow-up phone call to check on an anguished patient, when psychiatrists offer drugs as a first line of treatment, and when doctors look first to surgery, there's something horribly wrong. Though Marsha first searches her own culture's options and finds no solace or cure, she holds out hope that a Native American healer (Joseph Rael) can help her discover peace and health through an inward journey of self-understanding. More important than introducing her to sweat lodges, meditations and medicine dances, this healer doesn't give up on her and he doesn't let her give up on herself. Marsha's courageous journey reminds us to reach out to others (of all cultures) and connect. Ultimately, that handholding provides the reason and the path for healing: joyful self-discovery to contribute to a world that needs all the goodness and positive spirit we can bring to bear.
A 3-D Read!.......2007-08-07
Marsha Scarbrough's Medicine Dance: One Woman's Journey into the World of Native American Sweatlodges, Drumming Meditations and Dance Fasts, is a 3-D read. Her refreshingly straightforward narrative style is so compelling I had the experience of being at her side on her remarkable journey through the world of Native American shamanic healing. It's a "must read." I couldn't put it down!
