Excellent Choice.......2007-09-24
This is an excellent book for customer service - no matter what position you hold within a company!! It is easy to read - written as a story instead of college vocabulary!! I would recommend everyone read this book!!
Good ideas.......2007-09-17
Very quick read packed with a lot of great practices. Storyline is a bit cheesy, but worth the read.
Great ideas in an easy to read format.......2007-09-15
I used this book as the basis for educating several of my small business owner clients on how to create raving fans. When I first started the book, I was turned off by the story telling approach. Then I realized that there was real content on how to produce top quality customer service. I made a list of great ideas from the book and easily got dozens of good ideas.
I would recommend this book because it quickly gets the point across on the importance of raving fans and how to generate them.
Effective Review on this Book.........2007-09-01
A review doesn't have to be 5 paragraphs. This book was a simple story which illustrated a simple point about customer service. That's it. I purchased it thinking I would have "Raving Fans" but the book is far too simple and effective service is more complex. If you're hungry for growth and knowledge don't read it or feel influenced to purchase it. It's something I would imagine a very low level customer service worker reading for a little inspiration. If you're starving for just a little inspiration and 2nd grade storytelling, then purchase it.
raving fans: a revolutionary approach to customer service.......2007-09-01
this is a good book, with good solid business philosophy put across in a very readable, if a little campy, format. the frame stories are effective, but i think the essence of this work could have been communicated in even fewer pages.

Customer Reviews:
VERY basic stuff.......2007-05-19
For what it is, this book does a good job of introducing newbies to audio production. It claims to be for intermediate recordists too, but that is a stretch. If you have any experience recording anything at all, this book will probably not be very helpful. There is a section near the end that mentions some newer microphone arrays for recording in surround. To me this seems too advanced for beginners, but does not offer enough detail for veterans to really implement. I was disappointed in this book for being so utterly basic, but that could be terrific for other readers who need to be walked through the process setp-by-step.
Good intro to music recording, but nothing extraordinary.......2007-02-12
I'm in the middle of reading this book for an audio production course. It was the assigned text, and while it's not as expensive as many textbooks these days, it's also not a very well produced book. There are no photos, only illustrations that look like they were done on an Apple IIci. The writing is clear, though they repeat information about several topics. My biggest complaint is that it focuses on music recording, while I'm interested in other genres of audio. The authors don't ever acknowledge that you would want to recording something besides music. If you want to learn about music recording and want a very practical approach, this book is a good introduction. But I wish it considered theoretical questions beyond the merely practical.
Good reference.......2006-08-18
This book is somewhat dull to read straight through. It includes alot of details that may not be relevant and gives alot of examples that may be completely useless to the reader. Many concepts and passages are repeated throughout the book. That being said, the book makes for an excellent reference for many circumstances. From studio microphone techniques to recording live events, this book gives in-depth details and offers more than just one suggestion for all situations. It also includes a 4 page sound glossary and a nearly 50 page general glossary. This is a great buy for any non-professional recording studio.

Book Description
New York Times bestselling author and expert on leadership John C. Maxwell explores the concept that success is really just a frame of mind. Good thinking. It's the one thing all successful people have in common. People who achieve their dreams understand the critical relationship between their level of thinking and their level of progress--and they know that when thinking is limited, so is potential. Now, John C. Maxwell explores this idea and identifies the specific skills people need to make their potential for success explode into results. From focused and creative thinking to thinking of the big picture or the bottom line, he provides examples of effective thinking for every situation. This book doesn't tell readers what to think, it teaches them how to think. After all, success is as simple as changing your mind.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book for the people looking for Improving the leadership skills.......2007-09-26
this is one another classic from John Maxwell. There are lot many things explained in this book that can help us in our daily life, profession/ business..
We are what we think. This book will help you do it better........2007-07-08
I generally enjoy Dr. Maxwell's books. This one, however, is one of my favorites because it deals with one of my favorite subjects: Thinking. Maxwell explains how to think more creatively; how to use shared thinking; how to focus your thinking and many other lessons dealing with the subject of thinking. Earl Nightingale got me thinking on paper a long time ago, Maxwell introduced me to the "thinking chair", which is a place where you can go and think about challenges in a consistent basis. This habit really is life-changing. In a life where our ability to think will determine our future more than any connection, college degree or upbringing, is nice to know that we have books like this one that can guide us into more effective ways to use our thinking apparatus. It has been said that we sometimes need more reminding than learning, this book will help you remember what countless other philosophers and sages have said throughout the ages: Our life is and will always be a reflection of our thinking. Enjoy!
Think, and change your life.......2007-05-23
If you change your thinking, you can change your life - that's the authors premise. As any self-help book, this one has numerous overlaps with similar works, but don't let that dissuade you from picking it up, it is a great book. John C. Maxwell offers 11 concise lessons on how to improve your thinking and channel your energy towards your true aspirations. Sprinkled throughout are a number great quotes and examples - even if you're a seasoned veteran of the self-help section, this one will help you reinforce the lessons learned.
great concept.......2007-03-15
we see most of what Maxwell has written in our daily lives but I never managed to put it all together. Great idea John, it clears it up for me and helps me "think" better and more efficiently. great book.
Maxwell's Clear Presentation = Excellent Book.......2007-02-28
I have been impressed with every John Maxwell book I have read. This one is no exception. Maxwell presents his ideas on how thinking can change your life clearly and backs them up with stories, quotes, and examples of how people have changed their life by altering their thoughts. But the ideas are not completely original. Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" promised many of the same results by changing your thoughts more than fifty years earlier. Yet, Maxwell's book is still worth reading, not because of the uniqueness of the book's concepts, but rather for the presentation of such. He makes it easy for someone wanting to change their life by including exercises at the end of each chapter that, I am convinced, would put one on the path towards excellence. If you want to change your life for the better, begin with Maxwell, an excellent leader and motivator who walks the walk to give credibility to everything he says.

Despite impressive triumphs over the years, leading companies like General Motors, Xerox, and Levi Strauss have also stumbled badly at times. In Big Brands, Big Trouble, Jack Trout points out their biggest missteps as well as the critical lessons that can be learned from them. In his typically no-nonsense manner, Trout--a "positioning" expert who has written numerous bestselling books on the topic and served as a consultant to several of these firms--lays out the myriad errors that caused them and other giants to lose ground in the fight for success. Helpful specifics abound, such as in the chapter on Crest, in which Trout notes how the toothpaste's one-time dominance slipped away when consumer concern over cavities gave way to worries about discoloration, bad breath, and gum disease (which other brands more effectively set themselves up to attack). The lessons Trout takes from this are threefold: even winning positions must occasionally evolve; knowledge of how leadership was initially attained must always be maintained; and competitors must never be given an angle to exploit. Likewise, the section on Burger King discusses how turnover at the top, inconsistent advertising messages, and a loss of focus on how to assault the industry leader resulted in a stagnation that has perpetually mired the chain as a fast-food also-ran. "It's a fact of life that the easiest idea to overlook is the obvious one," Trout notes in this chapter. Since most ideas are apparent only in retrospect, however, his insights should prove invaluable to readers who might easily make similar mistakes. --Howard Rothman
Book Description
Jack Trout, one of the most respected marketing gurus in the world, shows why some of today's biggest brands are having trouble and how to avoid repeating their mistakes. With the help of in-depth case studies chronicling the events leading up to the falls from grace of Sears, Miller Brewing, Xerox, Crest, Burger King, and other past market leaders, he identifies the ten most common mistakes that big brands make, and he develops a set of expert guidelines for marketing managers and executives on how to build, protect, manage, and expand their companies' brands and avoid brand-killing blunders.

A real page turner. Read it.......2004-07-27
Few marketing books has the enjoyable read character. it is safe to say that Big Brands...Big trouble leads the pack. Concise yet informative, the book focus on the notion that marketing is about winning your customers' minds and hearts.
By going through ample examples of famous brands, Mr. Trout dispel some of the conventinoal strategies most companies blindly undertake. Line extention according to him, has done nothing but damage to At&T and Miller Brewing. The giant P&G has lost big on the toothpaste line becasue they forgot what made their brand a hit. Fashionable outlets such as Levi' and M&S needs to rise out from the past and look more into the future by developing their own unique "brand lifestyle".
On the dark side, the book is relatively redundant and by the end of it, it looses out. Also, the recurring negative remarks on another business guru "Michel Porter" was needless and hence lost the book the full the mark.
Deliver a clear message-Perception is the most important!.......2003-09-13
¡§Big Brands Big trouble¡¨ is a very interesting and comprehensive book. This book explains several types of popular mistakes with different big brand cases, how to select a board of directors and how to be a good CEO. I think this book is suitable for anyone who is interested in Marketing or Branding because you could gain a lot of insight from it. After reading this book, you will understand why some brands cannot be established well even they have spent a lot money on advertising, introducing many new products.
This book impress me the most is that Jack Trout illustrated all mistakes clearly by showing how the big brands, like Levis, Burger King, AT&T and Marks and Spencer made in the past. Then you may discover that some of the existing well-known brands are actually making mistakes for their marketing strategies. Moreover, you may get surprise that some of the popular marketing strategies, like line extension, benchmarking cannot promote your product, conversely, they will hurt your company seriously. So you must read this book if you want to surpass your competitors by using appropriate marketing strategies for your company.
Overall speaking, this book is easy to read and understand because Jack Trout delivered a concise and important message in the book ¡V ¡§Marketing is a battle of perception, not product¡¨

Packed with Knowledge!.......2003-01-22
Jack Trout, head of the marketing firm Trout & Partners, digs for details about the major reasons big brands run into trouble and just how enormous companies mess up by handling their signature standard-bearers badly. He runs down the litany: mistaken extensions of the brand name, failures to differentiate the brand's qualities and loss of clarity about just what a brand represents. His failure sagas are mini-novels based inside Xerox, General Motors, AT&T, Digital Equipment, General Mills and Coca-Cola. Remember New Coke? Now that was a branding debacle. Trout highlights corporate shortcomings and lays the blame for branding woes right at the feet of people who should have known better: of out-of-touch CEOs, ineffective consultants and dysfunctional boards. Alert consumers who like insider business war stories will enjoy this clear, lively book, but if you own a company or market a brand, we from getAbstract suspect you should read it twice.

Book Description
Offers a wealth of advice regarding the problems encountered in studio work and how to deal with them. Some feel for technical issue is needed to glean the most from what the book has to offer, but even the non-technical readers will extract useful and relevant information if they work in project studios.
What have come to be known as 'project studios' exist in the area somewhere between home studios and fully commercial studios - in reality there are no longer any clear dividing lines between bedroom or garage studios and the world's finest facilities.
However, what is missing from so many project studios is experience in front-line recording, which can lead to bad recording practices, poor decision making, misapplication of equipment and the inability to get the best performances out of the musicians. This book attempts to pass on some of that experience in as readable a way as possible.
Projects Studios covers in particular the problems of loudspeakers and acoustics, as these are the aspects by which all studio work is judged. They are also the subjects that cause the greatest misunderstanding and which, in turn, hold back progress. In this book the inexperienced studio operator will find the answers to getting first class, professional results every time.
Famous recording studios featured in this book include:
- Mike Oldfield's home studio
- Eel Pie studios, owned by Pete Townsend of The Who and frequently used by the Coctear Twins
With Studio Monitoring Design and Recording Spaces, this book completes a trilogy of titles comprising a complete library for the aspiring professional sound recordist. Together they offer:
· A complete library for the aspiring professional sound recordist.
· Comprehensive coverage of acoustics, monitoring and equipment interfacing.
· Information of relevance to all studios, from the most meagre to the world's finest.
Written by an internationally-respected studio designer.
Comprehensive coverage of every aspect of project studios.
Advice on overcoming problems encountered in studio work.
Customer Reviews:
The worst book on studio design ever written.......2005-07-12
There is nothing technical at all in this book. If you like long boring stories about nothing that happen to take place in a studio this book is for you. Everyone else should read Master Handbook of Acoustics and Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers: Theory, Design, and Application instead.
Good reading.......2004-03-10
Raised my awareness concerning several aspects of the recording studio. Easy to read, practical, a gem for starters.
Would buy it again.
With this book the force be with you.......2001-07-29
I read this book, since the first pages I see the quality of redaction, learn and Knowledge. Phillip Newell knows about he is talking, with 30 years of experience, his comments make the diference between a amateur an a profesional enginner of Audio. All the information of this book it is based on personal and tecnical knowledge. If you are studing audio enginering, read this book to ensure your knowlege. Definitively, the best book I read . No more thin articles, no more acoustic problems, you have to buy it, read it, and your vision of the project studio, will not to be the same. It is like the BIBLE of the engineer, and a book of consult for lifetime. Values the price in gold.
Practical & professional studio design & installation.......2001-01-01
With years of hands on experience designing, building, recording, and writing within the specialized world of professional audio, Mr Newell handles topics like studio and control room acoustics, studio monitor design, studio electronics, audio interfacing like very few other writers. His books are easy to read, involves little math, offer useful diagrams and charts and present an excellent overview for all studio owners, audio engineers and serious students.

Download Description
Growing interest in the alternatives that behavioral assumptions offer to traditional rational expectations models has led many scholars to investigate the insights this developing area can offer to traditional financial models. In this book, Shefrin examines the reigning assumptions of asset pricing theory and reconstructs them to incorporate findings from behavioral finance. In other words, he takes the traditional tools in asset pricing and behavioralizes them. He constructs a solid, intact structure that challenges classic assumptions and at the same time provides a strong theory and efficient empirical tools. Building on the models developed by both traditional asset pricing theorists and behavioral asset pricing theorists, Shefrin's book takes the discussion to the next step.
