Great for learning the basics of MATLAB........2007-08-18
I purchased this title because I am starting a numerical analysis sequence next year using Matlab and I knew only how to plot in 2D and do simple calculations at the command line. After studying from Gilat's text for the past month or so I feel very comfortable using Matlab for all the basics and I am ready to learn how to exploit the full power of the program.
Each chapter gives just enough mathematical background to provide anyone with at least college algebra/trig enough to understand what is going on.
Although this book does not cover any topic too deeply, it does cover the fundamentals of many aspects of Matlab in a way that allows the reader to move fairly quickly through the whole book without getting bogged down in any one area.
In the end you will know the basics about how Matlab operates: how to work with vectors and matrices, how to write simple programs and function files, how to plot and format data, how to fit data to a curve, and how to differentiate and integrate both numerically and symbolically, and a bunch of other great tools for solving problems.
Also, as the other reviewers mentioned, the book makes very good use of graphics to show how input and output should look, as well as what exactly each line means.
I would recommend this text to anyone wanting to learn the basics of Matlab.

If you plan to start with Matlab with no prior experience, this book beats most of the other available titles.Since an inside view of the book is not available on Amazon, I will for the benefit of others list out the chapters here.Ch1 begins with the necessary introduction,developing familiarity with the command window,display formats and precedence of operators.It moves on to Ch2 and Ch3 where arrays are introduced and the mathematical operations on them explained.Ch4 is about script files,Ch5 on elementary plotting techniques using in-built functions like plot and fplot.Ch6 introduces functions and Ch7 extends the previous material to formal programming techniques like loops and control structures.Ch8 explains curve fitting and interpolation,Ch9 is about three dimensional plots and special graphics.Ch10, the last one of the book uses Matlab to do symbolic math which cover elementary algebraic equations.The examples contained in the book are from elementary physics and engineering,so if you are looking for more advanced material that has been treated using Matlab,this might be a little less helpful.The numerical techniques again cover simple problems like projectile trajectory,flow of water from a vessel with a small hole punched in its sidewall,RC circuits, viscosity and so on.Relatively advanced topics like Fourier transforms and applications to signal processing are also left out.If you are done with this book or feel that the material isnt of much help, I will suggest that you might try "Numerical Computing with Matlab" by Moler(he is perhaps one of the architects of Matlab).This book(electronic version) is available for free from the mathworks website [...].Overall this book does a good job in explaining details and is also generously sprinkled with figures and screenshots.Please try it if you are first timer to Matlab.

I had never used matlab when I started reading this book and I found it very easy to follow. I now have a good working understanding of the matlab basics and I recommend that anyone who's looking to get started with matlab pick up a copy.

If you are completely new to MATLAB then you will find no better book to guide you through the basics. It is perfectly suited for teaching yourself several basic but still very interesting and useful programming techniques. Topics are presented to the reader in an order carefully determined to produce maximum benefit and knowledge. The book is short and very readable, with many example programs.
In short: if you want a FIRST introductory textbook for MATLAB, you can't beat this book. And it covers the latest version (Release 14).
A truly excellent text!.......2005-11-21
This book was written for teaching Matlab to freshmen in an introductory engineering course, so most of the examples are from first year physics and engineering. Nevertheless, after looking at all competing texts, I chose it to teach Matlab to sophomore geology majors, most of whom had not yet taken calculus or physics. I was very happy with the results; by the end of the semester the students were well on their way to being competent programmers, and I think they will find calculus and physics much easier because of their experience with this book.
I chose this text because it is very well written--you can tell the author has had long experience teaching the subject--and because of its many excellent examples. Most people learn faster by example than by theory, and the examples in this book are easier to follow than those of other texts. Each example shows the command window with a gray background and white insets, or call-outs, containing explanations. The pages are attractive.
In the main text, Matlab commands are set in Courier to clearly distinguish them from the discussion itself. Sections are fairly short and easy to follow, and at the end of each chapter there are many problems of gradually increasing difficulty. The solutions to some problems are given at the back of the book. The abundance of complete examples makes it easy to skip around in the book as soon as students are familiar with Matlab syntax. There are astonishingly few typos and none were serious. Cell arrays and structures are used only where needed for particular commands, a wise pedagogical decision. I particularly enjoyed the second edition's new chapter on symbolic math, as I had never used this part of Matlab in my own research.
The book is 7.5"x9.25" in size with 343 pages, and so is easy to carry around. It's inexpensive, as textbooks go nowadays.

Integrated circuits incorporating both digital and analog functions have become increasingly prevalent in the semiconductor industry. Mixed-signal IC test and measurement has grown into a highly specialized field of electrical engineering. However, test engineering is still a relatively unknown profession compared to IC design engineering. It has become harder to hire and train new engineers to become skilled mixed-signal test engineers. The slow learning curve for mixed-signal test engineers is largely due to the shortage of written materials and university-level courses on the subject of mixed-signal testing. While many textbooks have been devoted to the subject of digital test and testability, the same cannot be said for analog and mixed-signal automated test and measurement. An Introduction to Mixed-Signal IC Test and Measurement is a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate-level students as well as engineering professionals. It was written in response to the shortage of basic course material for mixed-signal test and measurement. The book assumes a solid background in analog and digital circuits as well as a working knowledge of computers and computer programming. A background in digital signal processing and statistical analysis is also helpful, though not absolutely necessary. This text encompasses the testing of both analog and mixed-signal circuits including many borderline examples. Digital testing is covered, but not as extensively because of the wealth of information on this topic already available. Examples and illustrations using state-of-the-art industrial technology enrich and enliven the presentation throughout. In considering the applications of this technology, the testing of large-scale mixed-signal circuits and individual circuits is introduced. The value-added benefits of mixed-signal IC testing to a manufacturer's product are clearly discussed, and the role of the test engineer is clearly defined.

Very practical and easy to read.......2006-05-02
This is probably one of the best books in the market today for test engineers and product engineers. Most of the discussions are oriented towards catching some of the common mistakes made during the development of a test methodology for a circuit. It teaches test/product engineers what to look for when they encounter test problems(which keep popping up very regularly!). I would have appreciated a more detailed chapter on the statistical analysis of test data and analysis of datalogs to determine test issues but I guess that would take up much more space. I would also have preferred reading about some case studies where test issues were investigated and the solution found, but that too would have taken up some space. In all, this is THE book for test/product engineers who deal with a myriad of testers in the market today. A Quick solution of test related issues is key to huge savings in production costs and reading this book end-to-end will definitely aid in the debug of test related issues.

When I was interning at Maxim, my supervisor introuced me to this book. I liked it it so much, that I immediately bought one for myself.
This is an awesome book. My supervisor said, that no other book has been written on this subject with so much detail. It almost covers every aspect of test engineering.
It is extremely easy to understand too. So, it is not a problem whether you are an expert or just a beginner.
I recomment this book to everyone who believe in KNOWING IT ALL!

A truly practical book.......2002-06-20
Most texts on testing seem to be written for the design engineer. They talk a lot about the fault model, the doping process, how the pattern generation algorithms are not perfect...It's like teaching Chemistry at a cooking class.
But don't get me wrong, this is not a cookbook. It does teach a fair amount of "Chemistry". But it's able to show the reader why the theories are relevant and how to apply them. The solutions are presented in the context of the problems, not the other way around, like most text books.

This book was assigned for my undergrad intro digital logic class. It is probably the worst possible introduction to the subject. The material is only mildly to moderately difficult in practice, but the authors managed to make it convoluted. If you are unfortunate enough to have this book assigned, I suggest that you purchase another textbook on the subject, and just get the homework problems from your classmates or from the reserve copy at the library.
A Book Not To Read.......2002-11-01
This book is absolutely horrible. The Professor who teaches this class with this book HE WROTE, is utterly dispicible because of his teaching ability. This professor, at UC Irvine does not know the one bit in teaching a COMPLICATED subject like Digital Systems to a class who has had little to no experiece with this type of work. I hope this book is revoked for any reason, and hope that professor reads this review in order to gain some knowledge about the way he is teaching a class of Engineers in an era where knowledge is not automatically achieved, rather taught by knowledgable instructors.

I used this book for an introductory logic design class. I was able to learn from it, but it was difficult. The teacher didn't even use it much. The book was not well written and hard to understand. I recommend learning from another book.
Good reference, poor for beginners.......2000-03-29
I began learning about hardware design with this book. Now I use it for reference.
But for beginners, this is not a very good book. Although hardware design is somewhat difficult to explain, the book does not analyze subjects in detail or how circuits work. When it does try to explain topics, it does not do so clearly and provides few examples. Unless you have outside help (such as a teacher, professor, teaching assistant, etc.), I would definitely recommend finding another book to learn about hardware design because you will struggle while trying to figure out how things work (if you are a novice).

This book is very "bare" when and it doesn't offer enought examples. This book is difficult to understand and takes deciphering the material takes many tedious hours. Therefore, I would like to conclude by saying this is absolutly the worst text book that was ever written.

Pretty Good Book.......2007-09-26
So i bought this book for my engineering probability class. the book is very concise and not as boring as alot of other books I read. Sometimes though its like the material is too vague at times. Sometimes the material is presented rather awkwardly with things like variance coming after all the different types of families of random variables. A good older reference book that has more information should be accompanied with this in case there is some minor confusion. It is still a pretty decent book though you just need a reference every once in a while. The matlab sections at the end of each chapter are pretty neat especially if you are going into an area of engineering with porbability involved and using matlab to model.
Best book on the subject I have come across.......2007-03-23
I have taken three classes on this subject, and I am confident in my recomendation of this text. For a first year M.S. class, I had the misfortune of having the instructor use Stark and Woods, which is overly complicated, dense, and in my opinion, the authors attempt to make the subject more difficult than it really is by including advanced topics, such as parameter estimation, in introductory chapters. This book, on the other hand, goes over all the basics in a very clean and presentable manner. I picked up this book during the class using Stark and Woods, and my performance increased drastically. This is an excellent reference and text for self study. A real life saver as well. Only complaint: it would be nice to have solutions to select problems. Most people will tell you that the only way to learn the subject is through practice, but as far as learning pricipals, this book is spot on.
A better book to understand Probability and Random Processes.......2006-04-16
I have gone through many books, including the one by Papoulis, to understand the concepts behind Random processes. There was one of the 2 problems in each book: Either the explanation was very poor with very less examples Or the book was too mathematical. No book has addressed and corrected the 2 problems completely till now to my knowledge. But, this book has tried to provide very good reading for any person in electrical engineering as the name itself suggests. Highly recommended for students to have a quick grasp of the subject.
NOT THE BEST OUT THERE.......2005-09-21
I gave this book 1 star because it is not the worst, but it is far from the best. This book is not a good book for an undergradute EE student desiring to really learn the subject.
Although the author claims that this is a friendly introduction, it is far from that. The first disappointment about this book is the introduction. The author mentioned how difficult the subject is. This in itself is discouraging for any sincere student really wanting to learn the subject. Secondly the coverage of random variables is bad, especially the single random variables. He made two poor decisions, first by seperating discrete and continous random variables. This approach confuses many students, because most engineering students can understand the calculus more than the dicrete math. If he feels that seperation is necessary then continous random variables should have been presented first. Finally no answers to any of the problems. That is a silly policy, how in the can students get feedback on their progress in the subject. I sincerely hope that professor Yates is not arrogant and will at least consider my comments. Lastly the textbook written by Richard H. Williams is the best ever written on the subject. Many arrogant professors will probably look down on his textbook because he actually teaches and explains the subject better than most.
A supportive reader.......2005-01-13
Let me begin by saying this book is written at a level for senior level B.S. and first year M.S. engineering (not math) students. It is the best book I've seen for introducing probability, random variables and related concepts to this student demographic (particularly to Elec. Eng. or Comp. Eng majors). It has all the introductory concepts and lays out the foundation for later subject matter in a seemless, easy to read and friendly manner. To qualify this statement, let me say that I had taken a similar engineering-related probability course in school a few years back that covered most of the same topics found in the Yates and Goodman book. I was confused about several issues even after I completed the course. It wasn't until I found this text and began reading it that all the questions and doubts I'd had went away. This text doesn't cover more advanced probability related concepts like entropy, mutual information and a host of others. What it does do is clearly provide you with the foundation in probability so that you can later read other more "involved" books like Stark and Woods or Papoulis and Pillai without the agony.

I used this book in my college Beginning Logic Class. This book has basic concepts for the way computer programs work and how a developer's mind needs to work.
The whole book is mostly flowcharts and pseudocode which makes it easy for a beginner to learn how data is manipulated. The pseudocode is great. It's plain english which helps a beginner understand how the different programming languages use their commands without teaching a specific language.
It has simple step by step instructions and great end of chapter quizzes. The review sections are a great way to reinforce the information provided within the chapter.

Nice book for those wanting to really do something with any programming language. Although the examples are all in QBasic and Visual Basic, the concepts are applied in pretty much all popular languages today. I found this book to be less boring then I thought it would be when I first looked at it.

Great book for getting started.......2001-11-18
When I wanted to make a career change, this book was my primer on the basics of CNC programming and machining. It helped me to quickly pick up the essentials of this manufacturing process. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to get a foundation or refresher course in the basics, such as understanding shop math, G code programming, tooling, set-ups, speeds and feeds etc. These are the necessary building blocks for success in this field.

This book is probably one of the best Tech texts that I have yet seen. It covers a wide range of topics and keeps the reader interested with very good photograps and 3D drawings. There are several chapters for beginners to deal with shop trigonometry, metalworking data, blueprint reading, as well as a nice overview of CNC Mill and Lathe programming.
If Peter Smid's book is the best reference on the topic of CNC Programming, this book certainly is a close second for value. This book's contents are not as advanced as Mr. Smid's work, but it is more than adequate for most students in college, university, and apprentices wishing to learn the trade.

Ambitious, but doesn't fully meet its ambitions.......2005-06-02
Mathematical level: Moderate
For the right audience, this is a very good book. The problem is finding the right audience. The book attempts to cover a lot of ground; in a typical graduate program in the social sciences, it would be at least 3 semesters worth, maybe more. But, if you've had the statistics, and need to learn S-Plus, this book offers a lot of good hints. The problem is that it doesn't teach S-Plus as give a lot of interesting examples, so you would also need an S-Plus book. Therefore, the right audience is someone who knows some statistics and some S-Plus, but wants to get some hints for both.

This is far and away the best statistics book I have found for the non-statistician. As a researcher and introductory behavioral statistics teacher this book has proven invaluable to me.
Crawley explains the connecting ideas that foster understanding that so many others seem to omit. Teaching statistics graphically rather than formulaically using the free student version of s-plus, my students come away understanding the foundations of statistics including measures of central tendency, probability distributions, regression, and ANOVA.
The interesting thing is that when I need an introduction to survival analysis or non-linear regression, I'm able to pick up the same book. Crawley explains many more advanced analyses with the same care and thoroughness that he does the basics including log-linear analysis, mixed-effects models, Generalised linear models, and time series analysis to name but a few.
I originally picked up this book to learn how to conduct analyses using s-plus but what I found was so much more.
To those of you that are really only interested in learning s-plus this book does that elegantly as well and I prefer it to Venables and Ripley (Modern Applied Statistics with S). I suspect that statisticians will prefer the later title but if you are like me and want some help understanding the analysis and not just how to do it in s-plus then stick with this title.

A very thorough overview of the PIC microcontroller.......2007-03-12
Having a background in software development (C/C++), having written a lot of assembly language in the distant past, and being familiar with processor architecture, I found the book to be straightforward and useful to me. I was able to make rapid progress through the text, sometimes skipping ahead to sections to find just what I needed. Plenty of useful source code in both asm and C as well. The professor who wrote this put together what seems like a very clean, easy to understand text (where "easy" may depend on your background - I found it easy). It is true that you can probably find much of the information in the processor specification PDF file available from Microchip or in other online sources, yet I found it very convenient to have it all available in one organized textbook. I do recommend the book for others wishing to learn more about the PIC18.
A bit difficult to read, but very detailed........2005-09-26
This book goes from basics to advanced topics, and includes sections on both assembly and C programming. It contains everything I needed to know except how to control stepper motors. This is strange because in his companion book on the MC68HC12 16 bit microcontroller he gives a very good section on stepper motors.
If you use the Allegro 3967 you don't need to use the microcontroller to drive them, just to provide on/off, speed and direction information. The 3967 does all the difficult work.
The style is a bit academic, as though it is being submitted for peer review, so he tends to overwrite things. It does not make for easy reading. I found I had to read some parts 3 times over.
I suppose any fact-filled book is not going to be an easy read.

The best PIC18 book available........2005-09-02
I have virtually all of the major PIC books available and this
one is, by far, the best PIC18 book on the market. That may be
because it is written as a textbook by an obviously experienced
academic as well a microprocessor engineer. Each chapter follows
a natural progression from the basics of instruction set, tool
use such as MPLAB, assembly, C programming, and
on to the details of the PIC18 architecture.
Its clear organization makes it equally useful as a reference
and may be dipped into for solutions to many PIC issues such as
I2C, timer and A/D use and interfacing details for many applications.
For the earlier PIC16, the best reference is "The Quintessential PIC Microcontroller"
by Sid Katzen for many of the same reasons.
Buy these two books and you have both the PIC16 and PIC18 covered.

the name of this book is not matching with it's contents unfortunatley i found it very complecated and confusing and very hard to understand,it seems to me the only way to understand it is to read some other books related to the PIC microcontroller

Weinberg's Introduction to Systems Thinking.......2007-01-04
Weinberg's book will not teach you how to be a systems thinker. It will, however, provide a stimulating discussion and thoughtful examination of an alternative approach to problem analysis and solution. The book is not so much about how the systems approach works or how it can be applied to complex problems as it is an invitation to his readers to explore their perceptions of what they think they know versus what they really do know. Throughout the book, Weinberg follows the strategy of leading the reader through a series of logical discussions designed to bring them face to face with their biases and misconceptions about systems vs. reductionist thinking. In doing so, Weinberg exposes the shortcomings of the reductionist approach to problem solving by demonstrating to his readers that the real solutions to some familiar and apparently simple problems are very complex.
Through his examples, Weinberg shows that by viewing a system holistically within its environment, we may be able to discern patterns of behavior/actions and recognize interactions, interrelationships, and interdependencies among the components that will be missed in a reductionist approach. From that view, we can better understand the system and, perhaps, better predict how it will evolve over time. The success of his approach is demonstrated by the fact that people are still reading and quoting his book 25+ years after it was written.
One facet of this book which I found beneficial may be a drawback for some readers. Weinberg wrote from the viewpoint of a computer programmer and a scientist. A person not versed in either field might have difficulty understanding his examples.
Outstanding book.......2006-02-17
This book is excellent. I first read this book in graduate school in 1976, and I continue to find Weinberg's ideas useful. It was outstanding then, and it has held up with time.
not quite an alternative to 'Systems Thinking'.......2005-09-17
I was searching for an alternative to the out-of-print book 'Quality Software Management, vol.1: Systems Thinking', written by the same Author.
Having read few Sofware Management series books from the same Author, which I rate at the very top of my list, I was biased on very high expectations. Surprisingly, I have found it being quite verbose and in the end, I couldn't get too much inspiration out of it.
An excellent introduction..........2002-06-05
Weinberg distills the essence from von Bertalanffy's classic and manages to present it in a very accessible fashion. The book has been out of print for quite a while so it is great to see a new edition. The message and information contained in here, although originally published in 1975, is now more relevant than ever.
Weinberg covers many aspects of systems theory beginning with the main stumbling block with the present scientific paradigm: the idea that the universe is mechanistic. His treatment is much more general than Robert Rosen's in "Life Itself" but still conveys why the mechanistic notion is flawed.
He then outlines the general systems theory approach before leading into the idea that a system is simply a way of looking at the world. He then outlines the principle of indifference. This leads straight into two sections outlining various aspects of making observations. Finally he discusses behaviour and then some general systems questions.
Throughout the book he uses many examples from disparate fields in conjunction with questions for further research. It is great to see someone who doesn't preach systems but actually uses the ideas.
Definitely a must-read as we decided how to solve the myriad of issues before us.
A true classic in how humans set and solve problems.......2001-03-23
In computing, a timeless classic is anything that is worth reading for any reason other than to obtain a historical context after five years. If that still holds true after twenty five years, then it is truly an extraordinary piece of work. That label applies to this book. It is not about computing per se, but about how humans think about things and how "facts" are relative to time, our personal experience and environmental context.
Human thinking is a complex operation and that is the point of this book. The problems and examples presented are not those in computing, but problems in how we think about the world and how that world can be different from person to person. In many ways, Weinberg anticipates the development of the science of chaos, where small changes lead to disproportionate large changes. His example of the "small" change of a single character is a classic. A man was considering the purchase of a piece of real estate, but when told the cost was fourteen million dollars, sent the response by telegram, "No, price too high." However, somehow a character was dropped, so the agent received the message, "No price too high", purchased the property and so a classic error was invented.
Weinberg uses science and mathematics as the genesis point for most of his examples. The laws of thermodynamics, chance and simulations in state spaces are used to demonstrate the points. As someone with a wide background in science, I found his examples of how scientific thought gives us an anchor but yet alters over time excellent learning material. Thought problems are included at the end of each chapter and they cover many different areas. Some involve mathematics, others science and many could be the point of a vigorous philosophical debate. Together they form the best collection of thought experiments and points of contention that I have ever seen gathered together in one location.
This is a book that is a true classic, not in computing but in the broad area of scholarship. It is partly about the philosophy and mechanisms of science; partly about designing things so they work but mostly it is about how humans view the world and create things that match that view. This book will still be worth reading for a long time to come and it is on my list of top ten computing books of the year.

Overview
Determinate and Indeterminate Structures are discussed in this book. Considering that we all are using computers nowadays, the Matrix methods of Structural Analysis and computer-based Structural Analysis is also presented. The final chapter of this book discusses some design of beams and columns in both steel and concrete structures. Both classical techniques and numerical techniques are discussed.
CD Programs
This book comes with a free CD! The GS-USA Frame program analyses and design plane truss and frames. The UNDO program is for (a) generic optimization problems, and (b) matrix-related problems. The SlideTray program is a tool box with matrix toolbar, calendar, options for numerical integration and differentiation, is a scientific calculator, etc. and finally, the UCSD program is for design of concrete and steel beams and columns as per ACI and AISC-LRFD codes.
Quotes
This author has also taken the trouble by putting quotes in the beginning of each and every chapter. For instance, in the beginning of Chapter 6, quotes such as "Everything should be made as simple as possible, not simpler" - Albert Einstein, "Although the finite element method can make a good engineer better, it can make a poor engineer more dangerous..... One can now make mistakes with more confidence than ever before." - Robert Cook, "I just bought a Mac to help me design the next Cray" - Seymour Cray, etc.
Examples
There are lots of numerical examples in this text book. Some examples are explained in metric units and some in imperial units.
Exercises
Answers are only given to selected problems. Just off the topic, this author (the first to me) has a funny way to present his exercises! For instance, he started some of this exercise with Appetizers and followed by Main Course. This author definitely does not have a sweet tooth (that's what I think personally) because I cannot find a Dessert section. But I am sure this author is an expert in Structures because his Dessert section is compensated with Structural Concepts!
Illustrations
Some photos were depicted in the beginning chapters to illustrate the common types of structural systems and also some bolted connections. Later, in the beginning of each and every chapter, a photograph is shown with some engineering quotes at the bottom. The graphical representation of structures in the text and examples are clear and well presented.
Some Topics Covered
Chapter 2
Some topics that were discussed in the chapter on Determinate Structures were the Method of Joints and the Method of Sections for 2D Trusses. Zero force members are also discussed in this chapter together with the discussion on unstable trusses. For plane frames or 2D frames, the concepts of internal forces are initially presented and later, bending moment diagrams and shear force diagrams are discussed. Similar to 2D Trusses, a discussion on unstable frames is also presented. One would understand the concepts of structural connections, members and support, how to produce a Free Body Diagram, to identify determinate from indeterminate structures and also to analyse & solve determinate truss & frames.
Chapter 3
This chapter discusses some concept on Stress and Strain. The theories of failure are also discussed which includes Yielding, Low Stiffness, Buckling, Crushing and Fracture. Also presented are Von Misses, Maximum Principal Stress Norris and Mohr's Failure Criteria. A discussion on how one can model the structure and loads is also presented. For example, how the load from the deck of a footbridge is transferred to the longitudinal and transverse beams, how the loading is transferred to the roof truss, the tributary loading on the girders and beams of a multi-story office building, etc. Wind load, snow load, dead load, live load, earthquake load and rain load are also discussed. Most of the discussion on loading is based on the American Code of Practice. But don't be despaired, the rest of the chapters on structural analysis is applicable whether one is adopting the British Codes, Australian Codes, etc. etc.
Chapter 4
This chapter discusses deflections by presenting the differential equation of beam deflection initially. Then it proceeds with the moment area method and 4 examples based on this method are given. Next, the two theorems of the conjugate beam method is discussed together with 3 examples based on this theorem. The other methods of deflection calculations which were discussed include the Energy Principles and the Principle of Virtual Work (Unit Load Method for Beams, Frames and Trusses)
Chapter 5
This chapter discusses Indeterminate Structures such as beams, frames and trusses using the Force Method. Slope Deflection method for beams and frames with or without sway are discussed. Unfortunately, I could not find any presentation on Moment Distribution.
Chapter 6 & 7
This chapter would gear you toward the Matrix-Based Numerical Methods i.e. gearing readers (interested in developing programs) some important information on developing computational structural analysis.
Chapter 8
This chapter deals with structural optimisation.
Chapter 9
The final chapter deals with some design of steel and concrete beams, columns, tension members, etc. Again, those who are interested in other engineering codes such as the British code, Malaysian code, etc. would not find any relevant information here to your code because the design here is based on the AISC and ACI design codes
