Book Description
This is not another one–size fits all program with strict rules and baffling instructions. One of the leading voices for holistic living, Mariel Hemingway's Healthy Living from the Inside Out is an accessible, down–to–earth guide that shows us what our bodies and minds truly need and how to make the best decisions for our daily lives. Dividing the program into four foundational areas, we can isolate the issues we all face and start making the necessary changes.
Food: What we eat and drink affects every part of our lives, from our energy level to our body shape. First by distinguishing what foods make us feel and act our best, we can then learn how to integrate a flavorful yet super nutritious diet into of our regular life.
Exercise: Exercise not just to stay in shape but to stay connected to ourselves. By putting the emphasis on quality not quantity, we learn to nurture ourselves, stay grounded, and transform our mental, emotional, and physical state a little bit each day.
Home: Too often where we live echoes the clutter and chaos of the outside world. Learn how to make our homes a place where we can rest, recharge, and refocus, a haven for the balanced life we (and our families) seek.
Silence: In our super noisy world, bringing quiet reflection into our lives slows down the rush, helps us learn the empowering skill of observation, and ultimately can guide us into healthier habits and behaviors.

Useful Guide to Healthy Living.......2007-09-16
I enjoyed this book so much, I bought it for my friends as gifts and they've all really loved it. Being in my early forties with children, it is nice to have a book that helps you slow down and live a more peaceful and healthy lifestyle.
Great Book.......2007-07-25
This book is a wonderful book to read, talks about the women body and living healthy. I own RC Duct Cleaning an Air Duct Cleaning Company and I am always concerned with my health as well as that of people around me so I would definately recommend this book.
Healthy Living: Stop and Tune In to YOU.......2007-06-09
I recently had Mariel on my LifeBites Radio show. This book is a great reminder that all of us need to slow down and look inside. I think she does a great job of breaking it down into four areas - Eating, Exercise, Being Quiet and Home Environment. All of these areas affect how you live your life. I also appreciated her ability to be candid about her struggles in life. She doesn't claim to have all the answers, but inspires you to look inside.
Disappointed.......2007-05-28
I purchased this item and sent 2 as gifts after seeing Mariel on television talking about the book. It was not what I thought, filled with buddha images. Being a Christian it was sent to Christians with no knowledge these were in the book.
Healthy Tips.......2007-05-18
I picked up this book because I read a number of good reviews here and was intrigued. There are some good tips here undeniably but I was bored reading this book. Many of these things I've heard or read before. One of the bigger turn offs for me was her "candor" about her obsessiveness whether with food or exercise. I'm sorry I couldn't really get into this book.

Review of the 2nd edition.......2000-06-21
I am a reader of the 2nd edition of this book, as I have not got the 3rd edition that , sorry, just give you some comment to the 2nd edition. I believe, however, you can glean how good the 2nd edition is. Firstly, it give some hits of writing a cover, or , what essential information should be given i your cover letter. For instance, you should tell the potential employer whet you are available to attend the intervew. Secondly, What visas/permits would you be necessary to got. Thirdly, after arrival, the first stuff you have to do is how to fight with " Customs Not only those information, it also drops the hints down, say, the issue of accommodation, public transport, insure , etc.. Indeed, I highly recommend this book to whom want to work in the UK.
Book Description
Third Culture Kids speaks to the challenges and rewards of a multicultural childhood; the joy of discovery and heartbreaking loss, its effect on maturing and personal identity, and the difficulty in transitioning home.
Customer Reviews:
Helpful material.......2007-10-11
While the slant on this book is very American; it is a useful tool for people wanting to know about the reality of the third culture world. The author does attempt to include an international perspective. A good start for anyone researching this topic for the first time or experiencing this cultural phenomenon themselves. Worth the investment.
"Must read" foranyone living outside your home Nation!.......2007-04-08
If you are raising children outside your home Nation, this book will help you understand and assist your children with their unique experiences living in the invisible "third" culture. If you or your spouse grew up in a Country foreign to their parents, this book may help illuminate emotions and behaviors that never quite made sense before (especially from the perspective of those of us who always lived in the same house!). This book is in english, but it is not about Americans only, but anyone from one Nation who spend several years or more of childhood in a second Nation. Should be a staple in every military, ambassadorial, or mission complex library!
it's an autobiography for tcks.......2007-03-23
I am a tck and I have met Mrs. Van Reken. She is brilliant, and her book helped me through many of my adolescent identity struggles. I have passed it along to friends and parents of tcks and everyone seems to agree that it is both interesting, thought-provoking, and helpful.
The missing link........2007-02-11
If you grew up in another country and have always felt a as though something is missing in your life, this book holds answers.
Putting it into words........2007-02-08
I recently found out about this book and the term TCK. As an American who spent the majority of the first ten years of my life growing up in Scotland, it felt so comforting to find out that there is a whole community of people out there like me, and that our common experiences have a name. Also, as someone who never thought I'd read another "textbook" after graduating college, this book has definitely changed my mind. It's a great balance of expert language and personal story, perfect for TCKs or ATCKs just discovering who they are, non TCKs who share their lives with TCKs, parents of TCKs, and any educator or professional in an international setting. I consider this book to be the definitive publication on my life experience, and those like me.
Book Description
Are you ready for the Cob Cottage? This is a building method so old and so simple that it has been all but forgotten in the rush to synthetics. A cob cottage, cobb, however, might be the ultimate expression of ecological design, a structure so attuned to its surroundings that its creators refer to it as "an ecstatic house."
The authors build a house the way others create a natural garden. They use the oldest, most available materials imaginableearth, clay, sand, straw, and waterand blend them to redefine the future (and past) of building. Cob (the word comes from an Old English root, meaning "lump") is a mixture of non-toxic, recyclable, and often free materials. Building with cob requires no forms, no cement, and no machinery of any kind. Builders actually sculpt their structures by hand.
Building with earth is nothing new to America; the oldest structures on the continent were built with adobe bricks. Adobe, however, has been geographically limited to the Southwest. The limits of cob are defined only by the builder's imagination.
Cob offers answers regarding our role in Nature, family and society, about why we feel the ways that we do, about what's missing in our lives. Cob comes as a revelation, a key to a saner world.
Cob has been a traditional building process for millennia in Europe, even in rainy and windy climates like the British Isles, where many cob buildings still serve as family homes after hundreds of years. The technique is newly arrived to the Americas, and, as with so many social trends, the early adopters are in the Pacific Northwest.
Cob houses (or cottages, since they are always efficiently small by American construction standards) are not only compatible with their surroundings, they ARE their surroundings, literally rising up from the earth. They are full of light, energy-efficient, and cozy, with curved walls and built-in, whimsical touches. They are delightful. They are ecstatic.

Practical, Comforting, and Fun.......2007-01-06
This book gives basic instructions on everything you need to know about cob home construction with many illustrations and a great set of glossy color photos in the middle of the book.
This book is great to read even if you never build a cob home because of the amount of information it contains that can be of use for any kind of house.
Also, the book walks the reader through several excercises that are meant to open up one's own innate creativity.
I really enjoyed the integration of spiritual philosophy into very practical instructions, it makes for a great balance.
I felt that the book was very fun to read and put me into a lighthearted mood.
The book also contains many references to other natural/alternative building techniques that can be employed instead of or in addition to cob.
Enjoy!
great book.......2007-01-04
great work on clay building, includes everything from history to philosophy to detailed practical building guidelines.
Christo.......2006-07-09
If there is one book that you need to read than this is it. Get your feet in the mud and find out who you really are. This book changed my life. Gave me the empowerment to throw off the chains of being dependent on paying alot of money for a basic need: good housing. Now I've embarked on a path of creativity, to build a house that is healthy, and will suit all my needs. My thanks are great!
Stunning AND the Absolute Last Word in Cob Info.......2006-03-23
I spent hours and hours with this beautiful and entertaining book, and I was only barely interested in Cob! This book is absolutely terrific, it is wonderfully and beautifully illustrated, includes color photos of some great cob houses, and is absolutely THE book you need if you want to learn about cob, or build your own cob structure. It is a wonderful balance of fun, personal stories, expertise, and technical info. (And really very inclusive too!) I read both Becky's and then this book. It really made me comfortable with cobbing because it is so well done, so inclusive and informative. A testimonial: Some time after reading this book over and over, we decided that cob was not appropriate for our site, and I STILL recently picked up this book for a good read!
Simply gorgeous!.......2005-09-23
First, it's fun just to browse through the gorgeous homes and creations in this book. Second, cob is well researched and documented here, for instance, did you know there are cob homes in Devonshire England that are over 400 years old? Third, this is a remarkably practical handbook for siting, designing, and building a home from cob.
On a practical note, you might want to start with a cob oven for practice. Kiko Denzer wrote a lovely book on the subject, "Building your own wood fired oven". Cob is incredibly fun to work with, but very, very labor intensive.
I really wish I could give this book six stars, because it's truly a fabulous and peerless manual for building with cob.
Buy it, you won't regret it a bit! It's a book you'll go back to again and again, and dream with on cold winter days.

Book Description
A Step-by-Step Guide
Highly sensitive people (HSPs), who make up some 20 percent of the population, are individuals who both enjoy and suffer from a finely tuned neurological system. This condition can be a gift, but, until HSPs master their sensitive nervous systems, they operate in a constant state of overstimulation. Conditions that most of us ignore completely overwhelm the HSP: bright light, loud sounds, and strong smells. More importantly, HSPs are also very sensitive to their internal worlds. They tend to be deeply affected by pain, both emotional and physical. The emotional demands of relationships and inevitable consequences of change often leave them reeling.
If you're a HSP, the most important thing you must learn is how to manage your increased volume of sensory experience, both physical and emotional stimulation. This accessible, practical guide contains strategies that help you master this critical skill. The book starts with a brief description of the highly sensitive person, and then offers a self-examination quiz, which allows you to assess whether you are highly sensitive. Then the book outlines coping techniques specific to the plight of the HSP. You'll learn tips for reducing the influence of provocative sensory experiences, such as excessive light and noise in the home and office. Meditation and relaxation techniques help you to reduce the anxiety caused by heightened sensitivity. Easy-to-follow exercises guide you through the challenges of communicating and interacting with others in both social and intimate relationships.

Non Judgemental, Supportive with Good Suggestions.......2007-08-17
Although this may not be the major work on this topic, this author writes plainly and could even be seen to provide comfort for individuals dealing with high sensitivity. Many students entering adolescence, especially young men, cannot succeed in our large, demanding, overcrowded classrooms and this is the book to give them. Maybe even sit down with them and help them to understand that the combination of what they can control (their diet, amount of intense TV, video games they consume) and what they cannot (school lighting, crowded classrooms, demanding teachers) there is a balance in which they can find success. Highly recommended for parents and teens w/ ADD/ADHD.
EVERTHING I NEED TO KNOW AS A SENSITIVE PERSON IN OUR TENSE WORLD.......2007-08-06
Dr. Zeff has given me the skills I need to manage my sensitivity. His book includes relaxation techniques, getting proper nutrition and exercise for the sensitive person as well as the importance of having adequate "downtime." He shows how to align the mind, body and soul for inner-peace. He also includes practical information for coping at work and in relationships for the HSP. I now realize that I have a choice in life and don't have to be swept away by the currents of our stressed out culture. Thank you Dr. Zeff!
Very Helpful Book!.......2007-08-03
I really enjoyed reading Ted Zeff's book and found a great deal of practical coping strategies to deal with overstimulation. Since I've begun using many of the techniques in this book I feel less stressed out! I highly recommend this book for all highly sensitive people. Also family and friends of sensitive people would benefit by reading the book to better understand the HSP.
Creating a Greater Sense of Well Being.......2007-07-30
For those who have been successful in creating a sense of well being from our overstimulating world, this book may not offer any thing new.
However, if you just discovered that you are a Highly Sensitive Person and are having trouble coping with the trait, The HSP Survival Guide by Ted Zeff will give you many suggestions on how to start integrating the trait into your daily life. You will learn how to separate yourself from an overstimulating world and create new rituals and habits for a greater sense well being. For that reason, this book is more than helpful - it is necessary.
Jacquelyn Strickland, Licensed Professional Counselor
Elementary Reading.......2007-06-06
Nothing new here. Basic arithmetic. I'm sure most sensitive people have figured out all of these coping strategies long before reading this book.

Instant gratification junkies seeking self-awareness are bound to find the title of Ariel and Shya Kane's book extremely attractive. And seductive it is: who wouldn't like to discover enlightenment in a moment? The key, explain the Kanes, is getting to the moment: being fully present in the here and now without trying to manipulate or change what you see. According to the Kanes, "all problems are a projection towards the future of possible realities based on the past." Consequently, inhibitors to living life directly include the inability to let go of one's history--to forgive people and events from the past--as well as resistance to the circumstances of one's life, and repetitive, mechanical thoughts and behaviors. The essence of transformation is "a non-judgmental witnessing, viewing, or seeing of yourself and how you interact with your life," which stands in direct opposition to therapy's approach of working on one's history to bring about change. Here, awareness of a prejudice or pattern of behavior is--simply and immediately--enough to transform it.
Principles of awareness, self-realization, and enlightenment, of course, are nothing new, and the Kanes are careful to point this out. Some readers may wonder, then, why the Kanes refer to themselves as pioneers of a "revolutionary new technology," and whether Instantaneous Transformation(R) really requires a trademark. Nevertheless, Working on Yourself Doesn't Work is warm, anecdotal, and conversationally written, and includes general suggestions and pointers for the reader rather than rules to memorize. All in all, it is a gentle and potentially powerful invitation to enter a new and liberating state of mind. --Svenja Soldovieri
Book Description
Working On Yourself Doesn't Work reveals a revolutionary new approach that will allow you to reach a state of awareness and "centeredness" that in the past was rarely, if ever, achieved. This book contains the keys to transform your life. It is a radical departure from the concept of working on yourself to bring about change. There are no gimmicks to learn, no rules to live by, or preset paths to follow. The Kanes' Instantaneous Transformation technology is about a change of states, a shifting of realities -- which will produce a quantum shift in your life. By reading this book, you will discover-- How to remain centered in stressful or challenging circumstances, A more honest, true and natural way of being that will allow you to be increasingly effective and satisfied in all aspects of your life, How to have relationships that are more loving, exciting and supportive, How to dissolve mechanical habits that rob you of spontaneity, joy and creativity.
"The clarity and focus I have attained by being exposed to the Kanes and their way of seeing makes the difference between life and death when leading my men down a smoke-filled hallway, searching for people trapped by fire. I feel extremely fortunate to have met them."
Lieutenant Mike Donlon
New York City Fire Department."
"What the Kanes have to offer is so very simple and yet so very profound. In the garden of all the flowers for personal transformation, and I have sampled many, this is the Rose. With great love and respect, the Kanes offer keys to awareness like no one else I have ever met. Their work is truly remarkable." Johnnie M. Jackson, Jr.Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

Customer Reviews:
Life really can be this simple. WOW!!!!!! YEN Florida.......2007-03-27
I am a professional female that has felt out of place since I was 13. I have seen therapists and searched for something to fix myself my whole life. I have read many self help books and done The Landmark Forum. In 1998 I landed in an AA room and was taught the 12 Steps of recovery. I read the BIG BOOK and thought the stories were exaggerated since I couldn't relate to them. I stopped drinking and took the suggested steps; taking a "fearless moral inventory" of myself by identifying my so called defects of character. As I grew in recovery, I was to take a daily inventory of myself which constantly reinforced that there was always something wrong with me that needed fixing. I now have 7 years of uninterrupted sobriety and recently I had the pleasure of reading the book "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work" and WOW!!! Did I get it...
See in AA we strive to live a day at a time but to be able to live a moment at a time was not something I had ever considered (I mean who can live in the moment there is so much to plan for?). It wasn't by doing the 12 steps that I learned I was living my life based on exaggerated truths made up as a child. These ideas ranged from "don't let anyone ever tell you what to do "to" don't ever depend on any man". These ideas never supported me in my life. They in fact have hindered every relationship I ever had whereby I never married or had children.
Now that I am aware of those ideas thru reading this book, I have never looked back or thought about them again. I have quit trying to work on myself. I have accepted my life and everything about it.
My life is so easy today. I have actually been able to save a relationship that I unconsciously have been sabotaging for the last 3 years. I saw clearly why I was afraid of success. Since I now have the insights, I choose not to go back to the past and judge myself or others for anything that happened. I also choose not to spend time in a place that doesn't exist yet. I can just concentrate on the fabulous moment and how it feels to be here right now. Talk about freedom from the bondage of self. My shackles have been taken off permanently. Thank you to Ariel and Shya for sharing their incredible experiences with the world and most importantly for the ease in which they do it.
disappointing.......2007-03-12
I orded this too quickly and should have looked closer at the inside, and the reviews. Its just another of many "God is who you want him to be, find your own way..nirvana, happy place yada yada written to sell, not to help books..I have to say that if God is who you want him to be?? then how could HE be God? Must be YOU thats God..anyway the book was disgustingly typical.
Classic guide book to living in the moment.......2007-03-09
There have been many insightful and helpful books written over time on the subject of living in the moment and only one that stands out for me as the best...and this book is it. It's the best in my opinion because the tools and ideas presented truly work in creating a life where lasting satisfaction and fulfillment can happen. It is definitely possible to live in the moment, day in day out, where the bumps on your life's road do not need to throw you off your path. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in living a life they dream of...it's possible for you because it's happened and continues to happen for me in my own life.
The Best Book I Know.......2006-11-15
The title of this book may seem enigmatic, but it is the foundation of having a wonderful life. The reader may wonder, If I don't work on myself, won't I become complacent? Not at all! The reason that working on yourself doesn't work, the Kanes explain, is that it presupposes that there is something wrong with you. But, as their second principle states, you can only be exactly as you are in any given moment. As long as you imagine you are messed up and in need of repair you resist the way that your life is showing up. This leads to the first principle: anything that you resist persists and grows stronger. If you want to see a behavior stick around, resistance - the adding of oppositional energy - will do the trick.
Although working on yourself doesn't work, there is much you can discover about your mechanical ways of operating that can improve the quality of your life. Through awareness - defined by the Kanes as the non-judgmental seeing of anything - your experience of living can shift without your having to do anything else. This is encompassed by the Kanes' third principle: anything you see exactly as it is will complete itself.
Does it sound all too simple? It is, and it works. This is why I recommend this book, more than any other, to the people in my life. After years of searching for well being - attending workshops, reading numerous books, and even staying on a farm to find a better way of living - Working on Yourself Doesn't Work is the only thing that I have found that does work. Read again and again, the book makes life easy, magical, and effortless.
Internal Light!.......2006-10-29
"Working on yourself doesn't work"- I have read this book over and over again for nearly two years. The interesting title initially got my attention, but ten minutes into reading it, I knew I had found a treasure!
There are many books out there that lift your spirits, but not often have I found something written with such clarity and wisdom. Beauty and simplicity shine through the core concept - Transformation. In reading this book I came to realize nothing produces happiness like the deep satisfication which comes from within: If I am true to myself, and not judging what I see, I can simply be me and be there for others. Powerful!I highly recommend anyone who is interesed in having a great life to read this book!

Worked!.......2007-09-19
This is one of two books that we used (along with the skittles candy each time my son went on his potty). Something worked :-). He really liked when I was reading this book to him in the bathroom.
Great Potty Book.......2007-09-11
This is such a cute book, and it touches on some good potty training issues, like the fact that it takes some time & practice, and sometimes accidents happen. It's a little long, though; although my 2-year-olds usually hang in there, it tests their attention span at times. Overall, I think it's one of the better potty training books I've seen.
A potty training book that actually deals with reality........2007-09-02
Unlike many potty training books, this one actually shows both a mother and a father working with a child through the entire experience of potty training: getting the potty chair, the mechanics of poo and pee, and transitioning from diapers to "big boy pants", all with the boy's parents there and helping with the mechanics as well as love and encouragement. If I had to do it over again, this would be a primary book in my potty training library.
Son loves this book!.......2007-08-24
My son is learning about using the potty and he absolutely loves this book about "Michael" and how he learns to use the potty. He'll talk about it too and say "just like Michael." I think the book really helps him relate to the whole idea and that other kids are doing it too... "just like Michael."
Good potty book.......2007-06-27
My 2 yr old likes this book. I appreciate that the little boy "Michael" in the book tries and tries but nothing happens (at first). The only thing I wasn't too keen on was that Michael's father taught him to urinate standing up the very next morning. I wished they could have saved this task until later in the book once Michael has mastered using the toliet.

Does a good job of explaining how potty training happens.......2007-06-18
I like this book because it explains potty training as a process, beginning when mommy and daddy bring home a potty chair and ending with the transition to big girl panties. It depicts two supportive parents gently helping their daughter to learn to use the toilet and shows that sometimes accidents will happen and that the child will still need to wear diapers at night for a while. It is also relatable for children, beginning with the words, "Ashley is a girl just your age" and describing how she likes to play with toys and do other things that children like to do.
Best Potty Book We Found.......2007-04-12
We bought this book for our 18mo. old daughter to start potty training as she's been showing all the signs of wanting to go on the potty. She took to it immediatley. She loves the pictures and the simple story line that she can understand about a little girl named Ashley. Whenever we talk about going potty she always says "like Ashee", it's so adorable. I'm positive we'll be buying the same book for boys when it comes time for our newborn son to start training. Great Buy!
OK, but not exciting.......2007-01-13
My daughter likes this book, but not a lot. I think it would be better for getting a child started - she was already sitting on the potty and doing her business before we started reading it.
This is what did it.......2006-09-13
DD found this book at the library and wanted it read to her CONSTANTLY, around the time she seemed to be getting interested/willing to try the potty. She liked it so much I went and bought her her own copy.
She enjoyed other potty books/videos, especially "Once Upon a Potty", but for some reason this one seemed to be the one that did it for her and made the whole idea click.
I think it's well-written and nicely illustrated. Kids can easily identify with the pictures and with the few false starts that Ashley has on the potty, and the questions asked help draw them into the story as it's being read.
DD is 4 now and has been potty-trained for over a year, but still likes to re-read the book on occasion.
I've given it to friends who are going through the potty-training stage, and they've all been happy with it too.
Love this book for my Daughter.......2006-08-26
My daughter really seeems to pay attention when I read this to her and she seems to understand about the potty. I bought this book and the "Too Big for Diapers" book with Ernie featured. She liked the "Too Big for Diapers" book she knew Ernie. She really related to this book because it was about another little girl. I would recommend both, unless you have a little boy then I would a book about a little boy.

An excellent guide/resource for teens...as well as for parents & educators if you get the Leader's Guide too!.......2006-05-27
I find this book, despite its small size & simple layout, to be an excellent guide/resource for teens.
The analogy is interesting. When life is very stressful, it can feel as if you're in a jungle with lots of dangerous tigers --ferocious, hungry, invisible tigers, quietly stalking you.
It covers everything from being assertive to building relationships, taking risks, making decisions, staying healthy, dealing with fears, using positive self-talk, & even growing a funny bone. There is also a "Self-Care for Tiger Bites" section which offers ready "first aid" for teens who need quick relief.
Parents &/or educators who are also interested in this book, are advised to get hold of the Leader's Guide. It is designed to support & enhance the messages of the Student Book with a step-by-step curriculum in a dozen of easy-to-use sessions. It comes with two dozens of reproducible handout masters.
Kudos to the authors for these two excellent guides/resources!
I would strongly recommend readers to check out the publisher's website. They have an extensive repertoire of excellent guides/resources for kids, teens, parents as well as educators.

Anxious and troubled and confused teens (most of the teen populations) will carry this portable guide to survival for several days and come away reassured that they are not alone, and come away with useful skills to make life better and easier. Even the teen readers like it!!

A heartfelt and personal guide for artists.......2006-07-13
Mr. Dorrell offers a personable, inspirational guide to personal success as an artist, using a self-deprecating, humorous, and sincere memoir of his own journey as an art dealer and writer. This book was insightful and truly conveyed the author's love for his work and his artistic clients, as well as his desire to assist aspiring artists.
Pushing the boundaries in the art world.......2006-07-12
Paul's book is written with style and humor. This career we've chosen is not an easy one, and this book gives practical advice and "insider information" about how to deal with critics, rejection and snobbery. He doesn't dwell on the negative, but gives inspiration and great advice on how to be succesful as an artist.
Profound and Inspiring.......2006-07-01
I wish I had found this book when I was a student; it's profound in its basic approach. I now have a modest reputation as a painter, however, the preamble suggested in the book was not suggested when I was younger. This should be a must-read for every art student and made available in every library. I was particularly interested in the discussions of depression, perseverance, and marketing one's work with dignity. I thought I would never read another "how-to" book, but this work changed my mind.
A Life Worth Living, A Life You Can Have.......2006-06-27
There are how-to books on breaking into the art world, then there's Paul Dorrell's 'Living the Artist's Life.' In an inviting colloquial style, Dorrell offers both practical advice on 'getting yourself out there' and provides an almost unimaginable personal testament to the unbeatable blend of heart and perseverance. He has a perspective as the prospective exhibitor that is no less empathetic toward the aspiring artist. This reader could taste - from Dorrell's own travails as an aspiring (and successful) author and gallery owner - that he WANTS us to succeed! As an artist, prepare yourself for a welcome challenge . . . and an indelible change through this book.
totally inspiring, honest, and thoughtful.......2006-06-22
I just finished reading this book, and must admit how much I LOVED it!! This is the first art-related book I've ever read that was totally inspiring, honest, and thoughtful! As a person who is pursuing a career in fine art, I was moved by how Dorrell so honestly shared his experiences, both the failures and the successes. It made me realize that I must never give up on my own journey.
