The best book on electrodynamics.......2007-07-27
A fantastic textbook, ideal for any undergraduate, and highly recommended to a graduate student for a "grounded" reality of what one is talking about in doing problems in Jackson! One can teach oneself from this book. Griffiths is a master of understanding and showing.
This is written as a graduate physicist.
Very good text.......2007-04-30
Yes - this is a good intro to electrodynamics, just as everyone says. It isn't a substitute for Jackson - they are in different classes, each with their own intended audiences and purposes. If you're fairly new to the subject, here's a little secret: in addition to this book, get vol 2 of The Feynman Lectures in physics! There's no equal to Richard Feynman when it comes to conveying complex abstractions in ways that even a caveman could understand (not even Geico Insurance). Later, when you're already grounded in the subject, by all means, knock yourself for a loop with Jackson.
watch editions.......2007-04-06
Great textbook, amazingly readable, but watch out which edition you have. The so-called "Eastern Economy Edition" (paperback and marketed in Asia)is missing a few things, notably labels on some problem diagrams. If you don't have friends with the real one, be sure to avoid that.
Don't buy J.D. Jackson!!.......2007-03-08
Unless: a) your professor makes you, b) you have bought Griffiths to actually learn something, c) all of the above. Griffiths should be a mandatory graduate text to introduce and lay foundations for more advanced concepts- it bridges the gap really well.
Excellent, Easy to Read.......2007-03-08
Griffiths does an excellent job presenting the material in an easy to read, conversational manner. He focuses on both the physics and the mathematics in a non-pretentious way, unlike many other books. It may not be as technically deep as, say, Jacksons book, but it gets the job done. Highly recommended.

A good addition to your telecommunication references.......2002-11-29
This book is very useful if you are trying to pave your way into the field of satellite communications.
You will later find out that the book can still serve you as a handy reference when you are already involved and experienced with satellite communications.
"Must have" for anyone in Satellite Communications........1999-09-15
Bruce Elbert's Introduction to Satellite Communications is the very best starting point for learning the basics of communications by satellite. Its scope goes beyond generalities but deals with specific topics from the world of satellite. Well organized and readable, it is an excellent companion to Mr. Elbert's other book, The Satellite Communication Applications Handbook. Both are "must read" and "must have" references for engineers and non-technical types!
Thorough coverage of Satellite Communications.......1999-08-17
This book does a great job of discussing commercial satellite communications. It is up to date, and includes excellent industry examples and technical details. This book will fill in your knowledge gaps.
This book has been updated in 1999.......1999-08-17
Get the newest version from Artech House publishers. It's up to date and very informative.

Masterpiece.......2007-03-23
This book is excellent. The author has the unique ability to cover the subject in great detail including all the theory, but yet make the reading very easy and enjoyable. I was amazed that I could read 750 pages of advanced and new material in a few weeks.
The 130 page! chapter on crosstalk is a Masterpiece. It is the crowning chapter of the book. There is nothing like it anywhere else. Almost everything the author covers is done better than in any other place. For example, signal spectra is covered in hundreds of books, yet the author has an original way of calculating spectra based on Dirac delta functions which I have never seen before; he covers the tricky subject of partial inductance beautifully, etc.
I feel like the other reviewer who wants to shake the author's hand if he meets him.
This review is a partial repeat of an old review under the name "reader". It was for the first edition. I assume the typos are corrected.
Wonderful EMC book.......2006-05-06
This book makes learning EMC as easy as counting one to three. Very logical, easy to understand, and makes you to think how EMC can be fun and challenging. A very good reference book, easpcially if you love to see things simplified mathimatically.
Very good book.......2006-04-07
I consider that this book is a very good start point to introduce oneself into the EMC topic. Clear and pedagogic with a lot of numerical examples and well chosen exercises.
Great Book - Read it all........2001-09-21
Starting first with the negatives, of which they are four. First, do not be fooled by the title word "introduction." This is NOT a book for beginners, but rather senior engineers. If you are new to EMC this is not the book for you. Second, information relative to FCC/CE requirements is dated. Also, some tests relative to CE compliance are not covered. Third, though there are many diagrams, there are almost no pictures. In many cases I found a picture, as opposed to a diagram would have been far more explanatory. Lastly (though it does not bother me in the least, but I thought you would like to know), the book has numerous typos through out its 752 pages.
Ahhhhhh, but what the book is, IS ABSOLUTLY WONDERFUL! As an experienced design consultant, I found information in this book that I have not, and could not find anywhere else. The author has A COMMAND of the subject and it shows. Compared to my peers, I consider myself fairly well versed in the subject of EMC as it pertains to design and debug, but I took a back seat when reading. It was useful even re-reading the things I already knew. The author always offered a new insight. Funny, but after I finished (and it took a while to read) my first thought was "I would really like to meet this guy - to personally request a sequel." For what it is, THIS BOOK IS EXCELLENT, well worth the asking price.
Best in its field.......1999-03-30
This book is excellent. The author has the unique ability to cover the subject in great detail including all the theory, but yet make the reading very easy and enjoyable. I was amazed that I could read 750 pages of advanced and new material in a few weeks. The book unfortunately has many errors and typos which prevents me from giving it 5 stars.

Book Description
This text surveys the field of modern electronic media and beyond. Beyond, more than a word in the title, refers to the new technologies, regulations, programming, and competition that affect our world and the broadcasting industry. The authors of Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet and Beyond have three main goals for every edition: 1) to convey the excitement of the industry, 2) to provide a survey of the industry, and 3) presenting a readable text that makes even the most difficult information understandable. With new information and innovations added to an already strong foundation, this edition achieves each of these goals, again.

Book Description
This book differs from the classical DSP book model pioneered by O/S. Includes chapters on DFT, Z-Transform and Filter Design. The book starts out with what one reviewer calls "fun topics", and DSP applications".
Customer Reviews:
Great intro book!.......2001-08-18
This book is a great introduction to DSP. It provides solid mathematical background along with verbage to explain what the math means, pseudo-code algorithms for actually applying the concepts to software, and TONS of worked design examples and figures to aid understanding.
Also lots of references to where in the real-world the topics are used. Particularly in the area of audio processing.
good introduction.......2001-08-04
as the first conceiving for the book got from its title, it is an introduction approach to dsp. slow steady steps ,many tactics to approach and address problems, alot of repetitive examples to reinforce ideas and many illustrative figures; make the book very useful to a dsp-beginner student. really i find myself marching slowly but surely during this book, but there is a need from time to time to refer to some other mathematical reference books to find how some equations were derived. i strongly recommend this book as a steady step in DSP field.
Great Intro Book.......2001-03-11
Hi, I am taking Professor Orfanidi's class. As a teacher, he has shown so much enthusiam for his work and so as his book. The book is excellent for begineers. It was especially great for me, since I didn't take Linear System, a prerequiste course for DSP. The best assest of the book is that it moves very slowly and doesn't seem to require a secondary resources(like a teacher). This is good because i don't go to classes. (think about 8 O Clock classes, naww) It is enriched with clear cut examples which points out subtle differences. If I could make it better, I would advise him to make the problem set interesting. (and also tell him to have 4:30 PM classes). The Problems are very repeative, long, unprocative and insipid. Doing DSP hw has always been a tiresome experience. The problems are only good for reinforcing necessary skill, they lack the allure of complexities behind critcal thinking.
An Excellent Practical Approach to Learning DSP.......2001-02-20
This text is one of the most valuable references for anyone who is involved in FIR, IIR, or FFT algorithm development for DSPs in modem design. It is an excellent blend of theoretical and practical issues. The author focuses on an intuitive approach to cover theoretical aspects of the subject manner, and also includes vary practical explainations of DA's, AD's, circular buffers in DSP chips, and pseudo code for the most common algorithms encountered in DSP which are easily converted to 'C' or MATLAB. I am a practicing wireless hardware development engineer, and constantly refer to this text. I feel this work is a better learning text than the one by Oppenheim & Schafer which is more commonly used in academic institutions.
This is a good introductory book...really good!.......2000-02-17
FIR and Interpolation, D/A and A/D implications to data sampling, DFT and Zeros and Poles...this book is good for educational purposes but also for reference...for those concepts that don't stick to your brain and yet you need one in a while!. I do recommend this book, personally, it is going to serve me well.
Book Description
This volume describes the essential tools and techniques of statistical signal processing. At every stage, theoretical ideas are linked to specific applications in communications and signal processing. The book begins with an overview of basic probability, random objects, expectation, and second-order moment theory, followed by a wide variety of examples of the most popular random process models and their basic uses and properties. Specific applications to the analysis of random signals and systems for communicating, estimating, detecting, modulating, and other processing of signals are interspersed throughout the text.
Book Description
"Do you want to design a wireless transmitter or receiver for hand-held telephones? Have you wondered why the printed circuit wires on high-frequency circuits dont always run in a straight line? This valuable text will answer all of your questions regarding component parasitics and circuit characterization for rf/microwave amplifier, oscillator, and filter circuit design and analysis. You will understand why capacitors act as inductors and vice versa and why amplifiers work like oscillators, while oscillators for local area networks work more like local area heaters.
Application of the information in Introduction to Microwave Circuits will reduce design-cycle time and costs, markedly increasing the probability of first-time success in printed circuit or monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) design. Several approaches are taken into consideration, such as the effects of currents on the ground plane, bypass and coupling capacitors, and nonlinear effects in linear circuits. Featured topics include:
- Incorporation of component parasitics in the design cycle
- Closed form solution to oscillator design
- Odd mode stability analysis
- PIN diode analysis for high-power switching applications
An integrated design example of a 1.25 GHz amplifier, oscillator, and filter printed circuit is also included, which could be useful in printed circuit board designs from tens of megahertz to tens of gigahertz.
Introduction to Microwave Circuits provides the tools necessary to analyze or synthesize microwave circuits. This text is an essential reference for undergraduate students, microwave engineers, and administrators. Also, it will assist experienced designers in other fields to meet the current rapid expansion of communication system applications and work effectively in microwave circuit design.

This is a book for MIS...!!!.......2005-12-21
This book is intended for a read on topics of MIS (Management Information Systems), a predominantly Management subject, that analyses solutions for Business challenges through the effective usage of Information Technology. Though it is titled differently, its coverage of the MIS topics is reasonably sufficient.
Excellent .......2005-10-24
The book was shipped really fast. This was a great buy for me.
Excellent service.......2003-05-27
It was incredible. I ordered it on wednesday night, it was shipped on friday and I got it during the weekend. Besides the book was new in perfect conditions! Thank you.
A textbook for college business majors (only?).......2000-11-09
If you want a general IT book then don't even think about buying this one, despite its title. This is a textbook for college business majors, and looks at things from the business angle.
The book is less suitable for non-student readers. It is geared for use by a lecturer who can draw attention to the important concepts underlying the field of IT, and can steer students to useful supplementary material.
The book races across the surface of the whole field of IT. The authors have packed in a lot of material, but at a cost. The explanations may be good enough for students to answer a quiz about the various buzzwords, but there is not enough space here to cover anything in depth. The students, and you, may be left without a clear idea of what the words really mean.
At the other end of the scale, the book struggles to make plain the broad sweep of IT concepts. Although the authors try hard, ideas tend to get lost amidst the large number of factoids.
One book is never going to be enough to cover all of IT. Your choices are to be more selective about which area you want to learn about, to pick a book which is more clearly aimed at being a simple overview, or to buy this book and work really hard at following up its leads to other material to fill in the gaps.

This book is an accessible introduction to every fundamental aspect of space-time wireless communications. Space-time processing technology is a powerful tool for improving system performance that already features in the UMTS and CDMA2000 mobile standards. The ideal volume for graduate students and professionals, it features homework problems and other supporting material on a companion website.
Customer Reviews:
This book is not good.......2005-07-29
I have read several books about space-time coding, I think this book is not good for the new readers althouth it says "I am an introduction". This book is only an orginization of many papers and the auther's work. In my opinion, Larsson's "Space-time block coding for wireless communications" is much better!
Superb !!.......2005-03-27
This is a great introduction to space-time wireless. Being a master's student, the book brought me up to speed with the basics very, very quickly. My classmates found the book to be extremely useful too. The book provides good intuition along with the required math. Most areas of space-time wirelss are covered adequately. I felt that the proofs could have been provided in more detail. But on the other hand, it did encourage me to brush up on my math skills. Highly recommend this book for beginners and then the book by Larsson and Stoica as followup.
Infomercial Quality, Brainless Copy And Paste Job!.......2005-03-17
This text does not deserve a long review. Here are my main reasons:
(1) The content is a result of badly organized copy and paste process from the first author's research group with major errors.
(2) Even the author diversity visible in various chapters does not add value, I believe the second and third authors are Paulraj drones. There is not one good chapter that I can recommend someone to read.
(3) Branka Vucetic et.al.'s book is a much better organized one although it suffers from the cut and paste process.
Recommendation: AVOID! Do not buy this self referencing piece of crap, and give the trees a chance to grow.
There are many good tutorial and seminal articles on space-time wireless communications and coding. This book does not even do a good job on these references. [...]
Excellent Intro.......2004-04-17
This book is a very good introduction to space time wireless communications. It's comprehensive and gives a good overview of the field for beginners.
A confused collection of papers........2003-12-18
May be it could be better to name this book a collection of papers and theses. I recommend reading papers, themselves; as there is no good book on space time coding and MIMO yet. These paper collections are biased.
