Excellent, practical handbook.......2005-08-09

This is a great, practical guide to EMI testing and troubleshooting. Includes basic fixes, utility of those fixes to resolve observed issue(s), and estimates regarding the improvement those fixes might provide. It also includes a section on in-house, "confidence" testing (without shelling out for test chamber and all of the expensive test equipment... though you'll still need some)

My background - BSEE, 15 yrs commercial and military experience. I think the text would be especially useful for Test, EMI and project engineers. It avoids deep derivation of formulae and would be useful to technicians and designers as well.

Good overall book.......2002-02-28

This book is by no means the definitive guide to EMC. The advance reader seeking such a book should consult Clayton's R. Paul book (Intro {yea right} to EMC). Nonetheless, for what it is, it is outstanding. The author covers in a general and simplified format a wide array of topics. What I most liked about the book was that the author address installations and other non-PCB related EMI issues. Basically, issues not covered by similar books that have a tendency to address only the PCB and its related IO.

Mr Kiameh has done it again. He has captured his vast practical knowledge into this simple yet comprehensive handbook. The difference between this book and a typical text used in the academic world is that one can find solutions and descriptions to their plant problems; the academic texts are heavily biased to the theorectical while Mr. Kiameh's approach hinges strongly in the industrial aspects.

Very Sad.......2006-03-31

I waited a very long time to receive this book, because i was being lazy and did not want to write a training manual and an overview for my engineers about WiMax, so i looked around and was initially impressed by the title of the book and bought this book and wimax operators manual as a pair from Amazon, that was the worst purchase of December 2005. It was very clear that the author did not really know much about WiMax or the vendors would not let him break their NDAs, even so he could have gone the WiMax 802.16 standards direction instead, i read the book yawning all the way through and concluded that this was possibly ment for those new to WiFi only. I beleive that i could write a much more informative, technical and satifying WiMax book which can take the reader from WiF to WiMax, 3G and detail the planning, radio coverage and capacity planning and provide evaluation for the backbone network as a compklete package. Reading both books i felt cheated out of my money, as i was expecting a brain massage and got irretation instead, i am afraid i will not be recommending these books to anyone, as i felt it did not cover 802.16 or 20 but covered some instances of WiFi.

In this rather slim book, Olexa packs in a lot of information. With a very practical bent. Aimed at someone who will be actually designing and implementing a wireless network in her company or home. Thus there are many small details discussed, that in practice may prove quite useful to a successful installation. Like weatherproofing the equipment in an outdoors environment. Or detecting and minimising noise sources.

The theory is kept to a minimum. No abstruse maths. You should already be reasonably conversant with the main wireless concepts.

i found this book obtuse and very hard to read. if youre not an advanced electrician i would start somewhere else first as this title spends very little time on the basic mechanics of electronics and is mostly full of 'helpful case histories" which i found pretty much useless. the publishers should take the title and rewrite the entire contents instead of adding on to an esoteric book written 20 years ago in the most confusing venacular ive ever attempted to read. thumbs down.

Disappointing, old info, Not very helpful.......2005-03-10

I do have this book and it is a disappointment. It list some problems you may have and some steps to try. But if your problem is not listed in the examples your kind of stuck. Trying to list the problems and steps to take that can come up with the millions of consumer electronics devices is not going to work. I don't know what is, but this book doesn't really do what the title says. I have some other H.Davidson books and they are not that helpfull. There seems to be a bag of tricks you can try when repairing things. i.e. ESR meter, flowcharts, curver tracer, overheating chip, call the manufacture, etc. But when those don't work I think you have to study how the circuit works and understand what is happening and what happens when certain parts fail. This can take a long time. Maybe there is a better system, but it is not in this book.

Full of Useful Information.......2004-08-23

I recommend this book as a good reference, but it helps if you aren't a novice. Sometimes schematics aren't available and you have to learn how to improvise. A person bitten by the electronics bug typically endures hours of frustration and failure before gaining enough experience to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment. This book should guide you in the right direction and hopefully save you some time.

Wonderful Aid in Troubleshooting.......2004-07-13

Well I don't know why Amazon let's reviews go through that are obviously not appropriate as the last one is. This book deserves the highest rating for a book in this class. I do not own this book yet but will soon. I have reviewed it in book stores and found it to be a valuable reference text. It provides basic typical schematics for the most often found circuits in consumer electronics and provides a clear and detailed narration on how to troublshoot problems. I can't wait to get my personal copy and put it on my reference shelf.

Anyone who knows anything about mindbending,hardcore, systematic industrial electrical troubleshooting will imediately recognize that this book is worth its weight in gold! I have been an industrial electrician for many years and I have a degree in electrical technology. Over the years I have read many books to help me in becoming the troubleshooter I am today. However I have never read any book with enough troubleshooting techniques that I could call the real Mcoy until now. This book is the real deal! The Author obviously has been in the industrial electrical field for many years. The best aspect of this book is his ability to clarify and simplify the various techniques of using instruments in troubleshooting safely and efficiently.Well done Mr Lundquist!!
