Helpful, but with errors........2007-09-23
This book offered many helpful pointers to a technician who hasn't done hospital work and needs some refreshing on mathematical procedures. But if you're turning to this book for Chapter 7's Top 200 Drugs, be prepared to learn incorrect information. There were strengths that weren't listed, incorrect strengths listed, and the use of the drugs was vague to questionable. The practice tests also differ from the actual certification test. I spent hours stressing and trying to memorize facts and dates that the actual test never even touched on. Some was helpful, but some was not quite right.
NOT the best out there!.......2007-09-08
As a pharmacy-tech instructor, I've used this series and am not impressed--neither were most of my students. A new book (PTCE prep book) by Mosby is available and is excellent. Good luck to all taking the new computerized PTCE!
PTCB Exam Review.......2007-06-14
I train pharmacy technicians, and this is the best, most concise review book I have seen. Almost everything on the test is covered here.
This book is not the best........2007-02-12
I bought this book and struggled through it to review for my certication exam, and I did alright, but I noticed a few instances where either through typographical or proofreading errors the book presented incorrect answers to its sample problems. I also felt that this book's section on calculation review was written to sell the calculations manual available from the same series. If you haven't done serious calculation work for some time, this is not the review for you. I use calculutions frequently as I work, and even so, these authors managed to make me question my ability. There are probably better review books available, but I was too cheap to buy another after spending $35 on this one.
An excellent overview.......2006-05-28
There is a very good reason this series is endorsed by the NPTA. Of the six or so books that I used to study for the exam, this was the most helpful by far. It reviews every topic on the exam, and is a great starting place to see what you need more work on. This is the book that got me a passing score on the exam, and I don't really think I can give it higher praise than that.

surgical technology exam study guide.......2007-10-08
This book was very helpful in reviewing for the examination, however you need to know the material inside and out since the questions in this book are merely generalized.

MCDST 70-272 Book.......2007-08-23
This book, combined with the 70-271, and the practice exams included on the CD's were the best resource in helping to understand and pass the exam. Even more so then class time!
Shipping stinks.......2007-05-14
The item I received was in good shape, but it arrived over a week after Amazon's date of arrival. There is no reason why an item should arrive a week late.
Good As A Reference Guide As Well...........2007-04-18
I've been an A+ Certified Technician since 2001, but this book really gave me the edge I needed to fully understand more about Windows XP Pro and Microsoft Office hands-on installations, configurations, troubleshooting, securing and networking with other computers in a corporate setting.
I haven't taken the test for MCP yet, but this volume certainly has me ready to do so any day now, if you're looking to learn Windows XP Pro and MS Office 2003, drop everything you're reading and buy this book, and also, keep it real handy after you are "done" studying it, because is very useful as a reference book as well. I Hope this review will be helpful.
Bloody awesome.......2006-05-13
I took my test today and came close to maxing out, 972....study hard the reviews at the end of the book. When taking the test, read the questions AND answers carefully, kind of like the old school days, an answer may "look" right but it could be one word off. Keep the books, don't resell them, I've already gone back into 70-271 and reviewed a few things. handy to have on hand when you deal with it every day. Very thorough in my opinion. Just a humble IT geek working on his certs.....
WOW Great deal and Super Helpful.......2006-05-09
I just took this certification and found out that some of test questions were the same as the back of this book. If you go through the test bank in the back of the book and go through the lessons your sure to pass. The book also comes with 180 day trials of xp pro sp2 and office 2003 professional. Not to meantion you get a voucher for 15% off the exam. I will warn you that some of the exam questions are very easy and others are super tricky.

Customer Reviews:
Plethora of Knowledge.......2007-10-16
This book covers so much of PC hardware information. It will take a while for people who consider themselves "above average" users, but even if you don't complete the A+ exam, there is tons of useful information.
Take your time.......2007-09-10
One chapter at a time. I recommend that you read the quizes then the chapter to find key points easier. Great study material! Sybex is always the way to go.
Informative.......2007-07-12
The book is quite informative and up-to-date. It covers all new A+ examination areas (really comprehensive). The bundled stuffs are very helpful too. It comes with lots of practice exams. The electronic flashcards are handy and refreshing. With the bundled compact disc, you can read your book anywhere, anytime with any portable device that support .pdf file format. Good book.
Thank God..........2007-06-24
Finally an A+ book that doesn't drown itself in tech terms without actually explaining what it is they are trying to convey. This is as user-friendly as one could hope to get in a study guide. It doesn't go over one's head, if it the subject matter does the author brings it down to earth.
The companion CD is pretty good as well, offering the whole book in .pdf form for downloading on one's iPod or PDA.
A+ Complete Study Guide - Sybex.......2007-05-17
To begin the book is well organized and well written. The flow of the book is easy to understand, and easy to take notes from. The CD-Rom includes an electronic copy of the book (which in my opinion is something that all paper copies should come with these days) which is very helpful for working professionals whom commute.
Cons: Unfortunately the book will miss a thing here or there as it relates directly to the exam itself. As an example: You will find that the study questions, while good at reinforcing the material you just read, do not line up with the flow, format or difficulty of the actual exam questions. They are really there to cement what you've just read and reinforce that to you.
Another example is the Professionalism and Communications section does not go over enough material in detail. It rather uses broad terms and concepts to go over that particular domain.
Conclusion: I feel this is a very good primary study guide. I would recommend however that you use supliments to your studying such as Transcender exams to help prep you for the actual testing enviornment as well as the Exam Cram book to compliment and really drive home the material.
The book is definately worth the purchase and you will be 75%-80% read to take the exam after completetion of studying.
Book Description
Ideal for review courses and for individual study, this book is a must-have tool for anyone preparing to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination. Concise reviews of the critical topics outlined by the Pharmacy Certification Training Board, along with review tests at the end of each chapter, assess your current knowledge and identify areas that need further study. In addition to end-of-chapter practice questions, two cumulative tests at the end of the book provide practice for taking the full-length exam. If additional math practice is what you need, you'll find 14 chapters that focus specifically on math and include additional math questions. This new edition includes greatly expanded information on pharmacology, pharmaceutical agents, the effect of drugs on specific body systems and conditions, and drug interactions.

In-Depth Study Guide.......2007-10-09
This is a great study guide for the PTCE if you are looking to brush up on everything for the exam. It goes into depth as far as a pharmacy technician would want to know. The practice tests are a great way to let yourself focus on the parts of the exam that you are not as well prepared for. There are some mistakes throughout some of the question and answer sections, but it is pretty easy to figure out the right answers. I used this in conjunction with the Prentice Hall Question and Answer study guide and did a great job on the PTCE.
Errors.......2007-08-30
Personally, I don't trust books with errors in them, whether they be grammatical or technical or any other sort. That's why that upon finding that this book failed to spell PTCB correctly on the first page of the introduction, I returned the book immediately. For a book from the same publishing company that produced the Comprehensive Exam Review for the Pharmacy Technician, I'm sufficiently surprised. I would highly recommend only two books to study for the PharmTech Exam: The Comprehensive Exam Review for the Pharmacy Technician written by Jahangir Moini and a supplemental calculation book.
One of the best to prepare for the national PT exam.......2007-05-30
I am a former science teacher and found this book was the best out of 3 that I bought to prepare for the exam. I took the exam this month and feel confident that I passed. The book breaks up the material into concise chapters with chapter tests. The best are the chapters on drugs that really helped me remember the drug names, mechanisms of action and precautions.
Genius!.......2007-04-16
I was so angry with this book that I actually wrote down the errors as I read it so that I could share it with you. I wont hammer you with all of them, just the ones I'm currently reading, from pg 111-123, a mere 12 pages, a fraction of the book's length.
pg 111 - 125mg/ml stated in question, changed to 125mg/2ml in the solution on pg 112.
pg 115 question #2 - 200mg/ml, changed to 250mg/ml in solution on pg 519.
pg 115 question #9 - 250mg/5ml, changed to 125mg/ml in solution on pg 520.
pg 118 "PCTB", should be "PTCB" (come on editor, it was in caps and it's the subject of your book)
pg 119 "adult dose of a drug is 2m/kg", should be 2mg/kg
pg 123 question #9 - the solution is suppose to use clark's rule: (wgt of child/150pd * adult dose), not young's rule: (age of child/(age + 12) * adult dose), instead they use a combo of both: 25lb/(25lb +150lb) * dose. Wrong!
At first I was very angry with the errors in this book, but I went through a 12 step program: anger, denial, blame, resentment, ... and finally acceptance. And in the end, I love this book! It's sheer genius! The author and editor piss you off so much you double check all their work, writing down all their errors, rewriting it online to share with you, and commiting it all to long term memory!
It's all I can do to refrain from giving this book 5 stars. I only gave it 3 for that rare reader who doesn't have the time to edit the book like I did.
I passed the exam, but..........2007-01-04
The book does a good job of covering the basics, but it is full of mathematical errors, circuitous mathematical logic (they make the math much harder than it needs to be), and misinformation on physics (e.g. it says that a meniscus is an optical allusion, when in fact it is a real physical phenomenon caused by the surface tension of the liquid).
On the plus side, it does a good job covering pharmacy law, pharmacy operations, calculating dosages, and drugs. While you could study the drug information (e.g. drug classes, physical effects, interactions, etc.) for weeks, the exam does not delve into it very much (at least mine did not).
Book Description
Written by vet techs for vet techs, this comprehensive review tool offers coverage of basic science, clinical science, diagnostics, applications, and professional areas. It concisely presents a review of the curriculum, starting at the basics learned first and progressing to the advanced concepts learned at the end. VERY helpful for organizing WHAT you need to know........2007-08-29
I hadnt revisited all of the info taught to me in college since 99. After using this book along with review questions and answers book from the same author, its all coming back to me in an organized manner finally sinking in solidly. This is like all of your education in notes better organized and accessible. A MUST for passing the RVT! Use with other product for best results!
One of the Best Books for Techs.......2006-04-04
I have read and used many textbooks as a technician and this has to be one of the most helpful. The chapter breakdowns allow you to find information very easily and quickly. It's also great for those times when you need to remember something that you just can't figure out. The quizzes in the book relate more to the NVTE than most books.
Great review for the VTNE!.......2006-03-04
I am taking a class that reviews the items that are on the Veterinary Technician National and State Examinations and this is the textbook we use for the class. It has everything you will need to pass the exams to become certified and/or registered!
A great book to have .......2006-02-26
This book is wonderful for indepth information on certain procedures. However when I first bought this book I was a little intimidated becasue of how " technical " it was. Since I was just starting out in the field. But now I love it! Alot of very useful information. I also think this is a book you need in order to become a CVT.
A reader from WI.......1999-12-04
This is the best review book out there for the veterinary technician. If it is either for studying for boards or just to review, this book will make the process less stressful.
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
Great Book - For the strong or struggling math student.......2007-05-17
This is a great book. I love math, but there were some things I had forgotten from my chemistry and math days. This book starts with the basics and slowly works your way up to the really complex stuff and helps you review those basics that you don't do every day, but will need to pass the exam. Great book - you won't have to worry about struggling on any of the math on the pharmacy tech exam with this book. A++++
Easy to understand!.......2007-01-19
Although there are a few mistakes in this book, I found it very easy to understand and important in order to be a pharmacy tech and understanding pharmacy math. We used it in our college class, and of all the books I have, I found myself referring to this one the most. Being a college book, it is written and explained for normal people. You don't have to be a genius to learn from this book. I have ordered all of the books in this series for my personal use because of this book, especially to prepare for the exam and they are all easy to understand.
Look somewhere else.......2007-01-13
As a pharmacy technician myself with over 26 years experience, I found this text to be mediocore at best. There are many mistakes and wrong answers in this book, leading me to believe that I can't trust ANY answers in it. As an instructor of pharmacy technicians I once used this as a text book, but even my students were finding errors and pointing them out to me, so I found it necessary to stop using this book. I don't recommend it to anyone.
Book Description
An excellent study guide for veterinary technician students, this book is an ideal review for final examinations, state certification examinations, and the Veterinary Technician National Examination. The sections in the text mirror the sections on the national exam, with over 2,800 multiple-choice questions - written by expert veterinary technician educators - that contain the most current information available on various subject areas. A companion CD-ROM features 2,400 additional questions in tutorial mode, categorized by subject matter, with immediate feedback and rationales for correct answers. Test mode on the CD-ROM allows the user to take three randomized 200-question tests a maximum of three times each, which provides feedback on scores in each of the subject areas and points out areas requiring further study.
Customer Reviews:
FINALLY a great book/program to help me pass the RVT!!.......2007-08-29
Having graduated at the top of my class and as RVT club president, I was NOT ready to fail the California RVT exam. Alas I did. So then I hit the books...all of them I used in college. Still, failed by only a few, I repeated this process until I tried and failed a total of 4 times. That started in 1999 when I graduated college. For those of you unfamiliar, the CALIFORNIA RVT exam is well known for having a high failure rate, and for being archaic and out of date. You can be a very competent technician and still fail this exam. Its frustrating! My studying for this exam was scattered, and since you dont know what you get wrong or right on the test, I had no idea WHERE my weakness are/were i.e. Pharmacology, Anesthesiology, Physiology etc. WELL NO MORE! I cant tell you how this has helped me identify weaknesses and strengths! I am now studying without worry of passing as this book is exactly what every tech needs to study and pass! Great info, well written, I am learning and relearning better than the first time around in college. WORTH EVERY PENNY!! I bought the review book and read that then make a game of the CD Rom like trivia. NO STRESS or work or worry. Wish I would have had these back in 99!
Good Reference Book.......2007-07-09
I think that this book was an excellent study guide for the veterinary techology state and national exams, the tests are extremely hard.
Very helpfull for the National Exam.......2005-07-10
This book helped a lot when I was studying for the Vet Tech national boards. There were some repeat questions but that wasn't a problem. The questions got you thinking and some of the questions in the book were on the board test.
A Wonderful Study Tool for Vet Techs AND Instructors!.......2005-05-09
I used the second edition book back when I took (and aced) the VTNE for my Oregon certification. Let me also state that I "grandfathered in" as a Certified Veterinary Technician, meaning that what I knew, I'd picked up along the many years working in the field, as opposed to a formal academic environment. Years later, I used the 3rd edition for the California State Board Exam. The tests are similar enough that I passed the latter with flying colors (after all, the science is the same, regardless of geography!) I owe much of the success in both cases to the Colville guide.
I am now an instructor for the Vet Tech program at a local college, and recommend this book as an adjunct for studying--the CD-ROM is really helpful. It offers immediate feedback with the correct answers, which is much like using flash cards, only neater.
Whether you're a student studying for your first Board Exam, or a veteran of the field in need of a refresher course, this book does not disappoint.
Review Questions and Answers for Veterinary Technicians.......2001-06-16
I used this text to study for my national boards two years ago and recommend to all of the students I encounter. It's a great way to test yourself before you take the exam. I purchased it about 6 weeks prior to. Each section gives you multiple choice questions about the knowledge you have already obtained. You can then grade yourself on the sections and see what weak areas you may need to "touch up on" before you test. It's well worth the money. I passed the exam, and felt it prepared me.

Good read for entry level help desk technicians wanting certification.......2007-09-27
Being a CompTIA A+ Certified Technician myself, I am aware of the formatting and types of questions asked on the test. Because I have help desk technicians reporting to me, it's vital I find a complete resource for them as they progress in their careers.
After looking over the content and material, this is one of the two books I recommend to look over for the exam.
A+, Knowledge we should all have.......2007-09-19
If you are either going for your A+ Certification or need a good reference book on computers and how they are put together, this is it. The cd exam which is included could have been designed a little better but it is "The Test". The book is written so you don't have to read the whole thing to get the information you are looking for. Nicely done.
A lot of information, but a lot of help..........2007-08-31
There is certainly a lot of information in this book, and it certainly helps that the writers sort of refresh your memory as you go along. The "For The Exam" tips help a lot as well and give the reader a nice focus area for studying outside the contents of the book.
The only real problem I have with the book itself is there are a couple of spelling mistakes here and there, and I tend to be very critical of the materials I read, so noticing things like that in a publication such as this dishearten me slightly.
As I said before however, the information contained within the book is very useful and is certainly helping me gain some grounds on my A+ Certification preparations!
Gift.......2007-08-29
This book was a gift for someone interested in this subject. The recipient appeared to be very pleased with the topics of content -- and will use it to further his studies in hardware systems.
My son loved it........2007-07-16
I actually purchased this item for my son who is learning about the computer from a friend. This is the book his friend recommended who is an expert in this field. My son is very happy with this book that breaks down in layman terms what you need to know about the computer. My son also mentioned that the tests at the end of each lesson lets him know just how well he is comprehending what he is reading. He loves it.
