To listen to its proponents, network (or multilevel) marketing is the greatest thing since sliced bread: top performers earn $1 million a month, reside in alluring places like Aspen and Kauai, and still find quality time to happily raise children and lovingly cement spousal relationships. Contending that those who fail to make it that far are ill prepared for the initial challenges they face, Mark Yarnell and Rene Reid Yarnell--married network marketers who are among the industry's leaders, as well as members of a University of Illinois faculty that teaches the only college-certified course on the subject in the U.S.--have written Your First Year in Network Marketing: Overcome Your Fears, Experience Success, and Achieve Your Dreams! to convey both advice and inspiration to newcomers. Peppered with personal anecdotes that bring their recommendations to life, the two offer logical strategies for overcoming rookie obstacles and kick starting a career. Individual chapters explore issues such as battling rejection, avoiding depression, handling prospects, supervising recruits, and managing time. Each concludes with a comprehensive summary, but save it for later reference and don't skip the preceding narrative, or you risk missing the book's considerable motivational component. --Howard Rothman

must have to make a good decision.......2007-10-14
This book gives you the down-low on what to expect in network marketing without making you feel like you don't even want to try. It is very informative and gives lots of real-life examples which ring true to my experiences with network marketing. It is a good balance of realism and optimism; all done with honesty and integrity. Any new network marketer, and even some experienced ones who are struggling, should read this book.

This book is really great for someone entering Network Marketing . . Easy to read . .
Same old stuff, different cover............2007-09-16
There are many books like this out there with the methods are out of date. Most successful network marketers build their fortune on the backs of others. There are some new twists on old approaches, the problem with most network marketing, MLM, multilevel marketing methods is the company's business model drives the behavior in the field and turns people into pushy, aggressive sales people, which causes huge failure in the industry.

I only wish that I bought this book 18 months ago when I started with this wonderful MLM company I belong to. The insights of this industry are fully explained in this book along with stories that people in their organization have lived and learned through. Not only is the information useful and ready to be applied to your business but the inspiring stories are true examples that this industry works for those who work it. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is starting out in a MLM company and for anyone who is a veteran in MLM. I have recommended this book to my organization and everyone loves this book, too.

By far the best book available for job hunters.......2007-10-19
If I were to buy only one book on job hunting, it would be Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters by Jay Conrad Levinson and David Perry. The book gave me specific action items and HOW TO do them. After reading the book, I put away all thoughts of using outsiders to write or rewrite my resume and cover letters. I loved the unconventional methods and real world examples - they are the kind of food for thought that actually get your creative juices flowing. I look forward to waking up every day to use these ideas - job hunting is a job; this book added joy to the journey.
A real eye opener.......2007-10-17
Many books are point of view out on how to land a "dream" job, this one is the benchmark. This has real information on the inside track. In fact the book is based on recruiter's know-how.
There are a lot of books that promise many things, this book delivers. Tips and tricks ... there is no slight of hand, the book is full of information that will get job hunters noticed and employers to take notice.
The information is strait forward concise with examples, it's an easy read and a real eye opener. This book should be handed out to all graduating classes along with their diploma...
This is great stuff!

Thorough, but very U.S.-centric.......2007-07-14
Very thorough, touches every aspect of the job hunt. Not sure how much of the tips are really "guerrilla marketing" though. It's very up to date and the author understands the importance of the online world very well which is great. My big complaint is that it's very U.S.-centric, many of these tactics would be damaging instead of useful in other parts of the world.
Very Useful for Thinking Outside Box.......2007-06-18
I found this book extremely useful. It gave me great ideas for networking and provided some excellent examples of how to think outside the box in regard to getting your name and resume to the top of the list. I would highly recommend it.
Great book for..........2007-05-31
people with lots of experience. If you are not a shining star with 10 years of track record - this book is not for you. You will need to extrapolate to fit your situation.
Customer Reviews:
Get to the point!.......2007-06-08
Some great information hidden in a bunch of rambling useless information. I wish someone would write a book that you don't have to search for the information you need. Alot of filler.
Its a start: you must know what you are encountering.......2003-10-05
The format of this book is not "10 quick things you can do". It is mostly a discussion, from different people, attacking different subjets. It is not uniform. There is a lot of repetition. However, being a lawyer, I find that it is a good start for people who have little concept of technical aspects of the art market.
Author recounts book's success.......2002-01-18
When I was Special Assistant Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, visual artists had few ways to support themselves except for grants. Apart from the special few, little hope existed for selling their art, and most artists had no idea of how to "go about it." I assembled an internationally respected group of artists, dealers, art lawyers and accountants and put them in front of tens of thousands of artists nationwide. Through questions and answers, speeches and demonstations, a distilled book's worth of unique knowledge and advice came into being. Unlike any other books that give one artist's opinion, or one "art advisor's advice" this book does something different: the straight story comes directly from the most outstanding and respected authorities in the field. No other book does this. No other authority can provide this knowledge in a single volume. The Business of Art is now the basis for college level courses on the business side of art. There is also a companion video sold by Phoenix Flms at 800-221-1274. Used together, they provide artists and art groups with a wealth of learning material for either immediate use or continuing education of artists worldwide.
Not so good.......2002-01-10
There is a lot of info in this book. However, the information seems jumbled. I say that because, one chapter seems to be more for the emerging artist and the next for the established artist. I did not care for the chapters about the dealers (ex. one chapter in New York dealer, one is Houston dealer, etc.)
I would recommend other business of art books first and save this one for last if your starting a reference collection of art business books.
Money Wasted on the Business of Art.......2001-12-31
I'd have to say I was very disappointed in this book. The title lead me to believe that there would be plenty of nuts and bolts information, when, in fact, there is very little indeed. There is one long-ish chapter on photographing artwork that contains a great deal of technical information on film, cameras, lenses, and lighting. (Most artists would be better served by hiring, or bartering work with, a competent photographer.) The rest of the book consists largely of personal reminiscences, rambling essays and opaque monologues.
Emerging artists want to know: how do you approach gallery owners successfully? how do you approach museums successfully? how do you prepare your portfolio? how does my work get seen? Well, emerging artists shouldn't expect to find useful answers in this book. The answers compiled in The Business of Art are mostly of the "If you're good enough you'll be found". "Get a magazine to write about you", "I got lucky", "Enter lots of competitions and hope someone notices you", and "Stop whining" variety.
There are a few mildly interesting, though not enlightening, personal stories about the New York art scene "back in the day", but don't look for much practical help here. I consider this as money wasted - both mine and the NEA's.

Very useful book for the interview of phamaceutical company.......2007-08-24
This book about interview of phamaceutical company is very useful for me.
Thank you for your fast delivery.
Basic interview text.......2007-04-06
Didn't get the job, but the book did help me a little during the multiple interviews. The better option is to call a rep and have a sit-down to go over the ins and outs. If you can't find one, go to your local pharmacy, they'll have contact info for you. Good luck!
3 Days Review.......2007-01-16
Great book! Very different info than other pharmaceutical books. This book is very straight forward and easy to follow. I recommend it for anyone trying to break into the pharmaceutical business.
I guess OK.......2006-08-11
The book I would say is good if you are willing go insanely above and beyond the normal realms of getting a job...most of the info. is pretty easy to figure out on your own, but if structure is needed this can be a good guideline. Over all it did not do much for me, but it might work wonders for others.
Deficient in important information.......2006-06-14
On the positive side, the book is neat and is written with humor. Unfortunately the negatives outweigh the positives. When reading this book, I found that most of the information covers resume writing and how to make contact with pharmaceutical sales reps. I think some of her advice about making contact could prevent you from ever getting a job in pharmaceutical sales because it is so unprofessional. The "how to actually get the job part," the interview, was seriously deficient in information. There were few questions and few answers, and next to nothing about how to prepare for the interview. This one simply does not deliver on the description of the book given.

Customer Reviews:
Horribly designed, can't stop puking.......2007-03-01
I've never seen a book so poorly designed since my junior high health book. I thought this book looked good based on other reviews on amazon but once I opened it up all I see is horrible design. The book is based on an atrocious grid, with horriblly uninteresting typography, and a "let's try to hit every base, even if it's only for a couple of lines" attitude to the content.
The content is written like a junior high essay. I don't mean in the way the author articulates herself, what I mean is how she touches on subjects so briefly as if she was required to by somebody else. The intro for example contains a brief (brief brief) history of just about every part of design, but in a bulleted format like she was giving a lecture. There's just no heart in the content.
Overall, the whole thing looks like a powerpoint presentation and I'm so disgusted by what I see that I can't even get past the first two chapters. I'm selling this book and getting my money back for something more worth while.
Beginner's Guide to Branding..........2006-11-06
Good book for newbie advertising professionals. Unlike other theory books, this follows a step by step guide for creating a brand.
Make sure you understand what a brand is first, though... read "The Brand Gap" first.
Future oriented.......2006-03-20
I've read all the current and classic books on branding and brand identity. No one author, other than Landa, really sees the future of branding so clearly-Landa tells it like the big guns at Ogilvy and Landor! Love the term "experiences" which includes the audience as a major player in the brand.
The Best Book on Branding.......2006-01-05
I have been creating and teaching about brand experiences for almost twenty years and Robin Landa's book is the best I have ever read.

more than practical book.......2006-01-02
I got a very good view of many topics related to sports marketing. I would say that Melvin Helitzer gives us a great overview of what a professional needs to know to perform well in the field. It's really great tour to get acquainted with the dream job. The sports world industry deserves professionals to market, communicate and advertise with the flavor Helitzer gives to us readers.
excellent read.......2002-08-22
Tis book is applicable inside the classroom and out. I first read it for a business class and then later when I got my first job in public realtions. It really helped me understand and familiarize myself with sports PR and PR in general. If you read only one book about public relations I'd recommend you read Guerrilla PR Wired by Michael Levine, but if you can read two I'd read The Dream Job.
Up to date.......2001-05-17
Looking for a new job, I was recommended to this book. Maybe it was a coincidence, but within two weeks of reading the book and following some its sports marketing techniques, I landed a job with a major college sports department. Call me lucky, or smart that I found this book.
One of ten best Business Books in 2000.......2000-08-25
"The Dream Job" is not only a best seller in the United States, it has also been reviewed as "one of the ten best business books in 2000" by Kauppalhti, the largest business daily in Nordic countries. The critique, read avidly by thousands of readers, called the book "fantastic."
Best yet!.......2000-06-23
As a professor, I'm always grateful for texts which students not only can afford but hold on to even after the course is completed. The new 3rd edition of "The Dream Job: Sports Publicity, Promotion and Marketing" is just that kind of book. It is comprehensive, filled with hundreds of examples and exhibits and wonderfully humorous. Outside of that, I don't think much of it!

Do You Know Where Your Brand Is or What It is?.......2006-03-01
"The Personal Branding Phenomenon" by Peter Montoya is another winner as a business reference book. I read this immediately after reading "The Brand Called You." For anyone who cannot answer the question of do you know where or what your brand is? - then this is a book for you. If you want an insightful look at the power of personal branding, then read this book.

Branding rebranded.......2005-09-23
The book had some interesting points and useful exercises, but do not be over-sold based on the hype ("double your income in under a year" seems like a stretch). There is a lot more to personal branding than what appears in this book and I doubt that most people will see a 100% increase in their personal earnings in under a year based on the advice in this book alone.
All in all, a useful, interesting read and some sound exercises and advice.
Advance oneself and one's career.......2002-11-05
The Personal Branding Phenomenon by advertising professional and trainer Peter Montoya is a solid guide to using the process of "Personal Branding" to advance oneself and one's career by enhancing a personal ability to influence others. Personal Branding involves taking control of how an individual is perceived, including the perception of the personal values, abilities, and personality traits that other people associate with the individual in question. The Personal Branding Phenomenon presents Eight Unbreakable Laws behind great Personal Brands, such as The Law of Specialization - that a great Personal Brand focuses on one area of achievement, and trying to be a jack of all trades makes other people think that you are a master of none. The Personal Branding phenomenon is very highly recommended reading for anyone seeking to improve their skills and abilities to affect others and to enhance the emotional, financial, and social qualities of their personal and professional life.
a handbook for success.......2002-08-02
Having been a broker and worked in the securities industry for more than a decade, I have a fairly sound perspective on selling intangibles. In so many cases, the first sale is yourself.
Montoya provides a practical and motivating roadmap to establishing a credible and attrractive brand that can provide the basis for a secondary sale of virtually anything - from stocks to services to widgets. Anyone who knocks on doors, cold calls or represents a product will find value in reading and heeding the Personal Branding Phenomenom -- from the entry level salesman to the executive looking to jumpstart a career.
Marketing Genius.......2002-07-26
This book is great! Montoya is so insightful. After reading this book I will never look at my life the same. I think this book is a must read for anyone who wants to take their business or life to a different place. The information is so powerful I bought several copies to give to my employees.

An Excellent Book For Those Looking For It........2007-01-24
Starting Your Career as a Freelance Writer will not teach you how to write. You need to do that yourself, with practice and feedback from people around you.
What this book will do is take you step by step through the trials of becoming a paid writer: everything from coming up with ideas to write about to structuring to the finished product, from querying editors for the first time to building a lasting relationship. The "rules" set down apply to multiple forms of writing, and not just for magazines, and references to other work are instructional and welcome.
There is also an excellent overview of how to manage your personal business as a freelancer, which for those of us "creative types," is certainly helpful.
The greatest part of this book, though, is its ability to lead the reader into types of writing for pay that many of us would never even consider. For instance, there is a chapter (written by a different author, suggesting the book's author knows her limits) on writing copy. Though I would never have thought to write copy, and almost skipped the chapter, following reading it and having been convinced that maybe this was a good way to suppliment income, I made some cold-calls as the book suggested, and a few days later, I already have a copy writing gig.
I would highly recommend this book to any competent writer that is looking to make a bit of money doing something that they love. If you can bring the work ethic, this book can bring the game plan.
A Great Way to Get Started.......2006-09-07
This book contains all of the essential information I needed to jump start my career as a freelance writer. Having some experience in the field in the distant past, I needed a refresher course and this book provided it. (It would be even more useful for someone without previous experience in the field.) Besides providing proper form for query letters and instruction on how to go about finding and approaching markets, it gives specific guidelines on the right way to pursue a freelance writing career, reasonable expectations and how to organize your work as a business.
If You Want to Be A Free Lance Writer-This Is A Must Book.......2004-04-11
I remember very vividly when I sold my first article to a major Canadian newspaper. It was in the mid 1960s, when I had just graduated from law school and I decided that the only way to fame, and perhaps jump- start my non-existent law practice, was to write articles on Quebec Civil Law. Fortunately for me, I was in the right place at the right time, and the newspaper was looking for someone to contribute articles pertaining to this subject matter. They purchased the first several of my articles, and boy was I excited!
However, unfortunately, my free-lance writing days came to an abrupt end when no one else was interested in the topic. That is when I decided to devote all of my time and energies into practicing the legal profession. Perhaps, if I had at my disposal Moira Anderson Allen's book entitled Starting Your Career As A Freelance Writer, things would have been different. Remember, it was the 1960s, and at the time there were few writing guides pointing you in the right direction to a free -lance writing career.
I did not have Allen to show me how to start my articles, find the right markets, queries and submissions, rights and contracts, and how to expand my horizons.
It is these topics and many more where Starting Your Career As A Freelance Writer excels. The book is a splendid, in-depth analysis where even the more experienced writer can reap some benefits.
Divided into six parts, there is no shortage of vital and interesting information as to what goes on in the minds of an editor to how to interview, and from exploring and evaluating markets to writing for special interest publications and markets. The reader is also exposed to such topics as queries and submissions, legal technicalities pertaining to rights and contracts, as well as setting fees and keeping records. After all, without these essential tools, we will never get to first base with our budding writing career, no matter how talented we may be.
What is noteworthy about Allen's writing is her ability to cut away the fat from the meat. Furthermore, she never presumes that the reader should know certain fundamental concepts, and consequently Allen leaves nothing unturned.
Allen's writing credentials are impeccable, as proven by the hundreds of articles she has contributed to several publications over her twenty- year writing career. In addition, she has also being called upon to speak at writers' conferences and workshops, and to act as an instructor at many of these events. Commencing a career, as a free-lance writer, is a difficult task, and one in which a great deal of perseverance and patience is required. It is Allen's vast experience and her ability to effectively convey her knowledge from these experiences that is very much in evidence throughout book, and will surely prove to be invaluable to aspiring free- lance writers.

A TERRIFIC guide on freelance writing.......2003-12-25
I am a fan of Moira Allen's incredibly resourceful website WRITING-WORLD (www.writing-world.com) and looked forward to reading her all-in-one guide on freelancing writing. As I expected, NO disappointments here - all you ever wanted to know about the basics of writing for magazines and going freelance is explained simply and expertly in this book.
I normally don't take more than 3 days to read a non-fiction book, but Moira Allen's took me over a week! You can have an idea just how comprehensive and thorough the contents must be. Fromtime management to setting goals, from finding ideas to handling accounts, Moira helps you to become a successful freelance writer, with her words of wisdom (born out of a 20+ year-old writing career) and conversational-yet-pithy 'tone'.
On the craft of writing, Moira teaches you how to face the first draft and write the perfect query to target the right market. There is a seperate division on rights and contacts and how to keep records and go full-time freelancing. You also have a special chapter by Peter Bowerman, the 'Guru' of Cold-Calling Strategy and the author of THE WELL-FED WRITER.
It doesn't matter if you're a clueless layman, a budding freelancer or a veteran freelancer. This book serves both as an excellent introduction on the freelance writing biz for new writers and as a refresher for experienced ones. Don't miss it!

Customer Reviews:
Great for sales beginners!!!.......2007-03-16
If you're really new to the business world and sales or a recent college graduate like I was when I bought this book then by all means read this book!!!!!
You will get all the information in this book if the company you work for has a good sales training program. But if you want to get a leg up on the competition read this book before you get your first sales job, or while you're still in school.
Great book.......2006-09-05
I am a banker, not a salesperson, but I have been always interested in learning more about sales, and this is a great book.
Tim Connors responded to my email the same day.......2005-04-15
I emailed Tim that my copy had chocolate-scented ink; I thought it was a marketing ploy. He sent me a reply the same day; turns out he'd never heard of that and offered to replace my copy. Class act. I can't figure out how to change my star rating, but please up it 4 stars.
Good advice for the uninitiated.......2003-03-18
This book has some great advice for the beginner and a lot of wisdom about success in life in general to those in the working world. I wish I had read it when I started out. The author provides a road map to success which if followed will surely help the sales professional to avoid the many pitfalls which await them in a sales career. A great motivational read. The well written sections and the great layout make it a pleasure to read.
Tim Connor, sales genious........2002-01-09
This book was nothing short of an educational and motivating read. I am taking Tim Connor's advice and I am making my career work. I could not be more pleased with the contents expressed in this book. If you are just entering the sales force or have been in it for years this book can absolutely help you excell in your career. Once again, a great read!

In The Bag: Selling in the Salon.......2000-04-26
This is a great book which gives invaluable, practical advice on increasing salon revenues.
The book concentrates on increasing revenue through retail sales looking at salon design, layout, product, staffing, sales tips, objections, follow up etc.
Carol Phillips really understands customer service, and makes you think about the whole client experience. At every stage she makes suggestions to improve your customer service to build customer loyalty and repeat sales. There is also advice on staff issues, marketing and other management issues.
The book has been carefully structured and the chapter overviews and summaries are useful. It is also well indexed. I now call it the salon bible. Read it.
