Consider the "Federal Resume Guidebook, Fourth Edition," as the bible for serious federal job seekers. A few months ago I attended a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) class before I retired from the Air Force. The TAP instructor lightly covered federal resumes, KSA's, etc., I was totally confused. Family, friends, and former co-workers all provided me with advice on how a federal resume should be written, formatted, and distributed. After several misses on the job market I decided to purchase this book. HALLELUJAH ! This book will take you step-by-step on the federal resume process with some excellent federal resume samples you can use on your quest for a career with government agencies. I also decided to invest in the Entry-Level and Mid-Level Assessment Service offered by the authors company, The Resume Place. If your are serious about your federal job search I strongly suggest you purchase this service. You will not be disappointed. One last item, the author Ms. Kathryn Troutman personally provided me with the assessment and offered some great suggestions I had overlooked when I created my resume. WoW, what great customer service. This book certainly deserves a "Five Stars" plus rating. I'm certain I will catch the attention of the federal agencies where I want to work.

I found this the to be the best book on the federal application process yet. The examples were detailed as well as the explainations with plenty of examples for the professional GS jobs. As far as it's effectiveness... we'll see.

I just wanted to say I got more reaction from the new improved Fed Resume. However, I also changed my regular business resume also and got a job in the regular business world first before the Federal employment world. I do think it works and when I am done with my education, I plan on continuing using this method.

I purchased the book and what a difference it made in creating a resume with some pop. The chapters were easy to follow step by step. It really helped me transform my resume into something worth reading. Also the comments in each chapter were very helpful in bringing to light the many hats I wear at my current job and I was able to translate that knowledge into the qualifications described in the job announcements. It is well worth the investment. If you are truly serious about getting a job with the federal government, then this book is a must.

Did events and eras such as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Roman Empire , the Dark Ages, and the Renaissance, actually occur within a very different chronology from what we've been told? Yes, they certainly did!
The history of humankind is both drastically shorter and dramatically different than generally presumed.
Why is it so? On one hand, it was usual custom to justify the claims to title and land by age and ancestry, and on the other the court historians knew only too well how to please their masters. The so called universal classic world history is a pack of intricate lies for all events prior to the 16th century. World history as we learn it today was entirely fabricated in the 16th-18th centuries. It's likely that nobody told you before, but
there is not a single piece of firm written evidence or artefact that is reliably and independently dated prior to the 11th century.
Naturally, after what you've learned in school and university, you will not easily believe that the classical history of ancient Rome, Greece, Asia, Egypt, China, Japan, India, etc., is manifestly false.
You will point accusing finger to the pyramids in Egypt, to the Coliseum in Rome and Great Wall of China etc., and claim, aren't they really ancient, thousands of years ancient? Well, there is no valid scientific proof that they are older than 1000 years!
The oldest original written document that can be reliably dated belongs to the 11th century!
New research asserts that Homo sapiens invented writing (including hieroglyphics) only 1000 years ago. Once invented, writing skills were immediately and irreversibly put to the use of ruling powers and science.
The consensual chronology we live with was essentially crafted in the 16th century by the Jesuits.
The world history was compiled from contradictory mix of innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts and other irrefutable proofs delivered by late mediaeval astronomers that were cemented by the authority of writings of the Church Fathers.
Early in life, we learn about ancient history. Children love the magical lessons of history - they are like fairy tales. Teachers recite breathtaking stories; very soon We learn by heart the names and deeds of brave warriors, wise philosophers, fabulous pharaohs, cunning high priests and greedy scribes.
We learn of gigantic pyramids and sinister castles, kings and queens, dukes and barons, powerful heroes and beautiful ladies, emaciated saints and low-life traitors.
Ancient history is based documents, manuscripts, printed books, paintings, monuments and artefacts - called primary sources.
The problem is that neither these ancient documents, nor events described therein can be irrefutably dated, moreover they contradict each other for the most part.
When a school textbook tells us that Genghis Khan in year X or Alexander in year Y, have each conquered half of the world, it means only that it is so said in some of the written sources.
There are no answers to simple questions:
When were these primary sources written?
Where and by whom were these sources found?
It is wrongly presumed that ancient and medieval chronicles, written by Genghis Khan's or Alexander the Great contemporaries and eyewitnesses, are readily available. Actually, only sources written hundreds or even thousands of years after the events are there, compiled mostly in the 16th 18th centuries, or even later.
As a rule, these sources suffered considerable multiple manipulations, falsifications and distortions by editing. At the same time,
innumerable originals of ancient documents under various pretexts were destroyed in Europe under various pretexts.
The names of persons and geographical sites often changed meaning and location during the course of the centuries.
Geographical locations became clearly defined on maps only with the advent of printing.
This made possible the circulation of identical copies of the same map for purposes of the military, navigation, education and governance tasks.
Historians from Oxford say: "hey, everybody knows that Julius Caesar lived in the first century B.C.
`Julius Caesar' statement is only a point of view as
there is simply no irrefutable documentary proof that Julius Caesar or any other great name of antiquity ever existed.
Better than that - extremely rare sources that can be reliably dated back to the 10th-14th centuries A D, do not show the polished picture of classical history.
They show a picture both contradictory and confusing.
All methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts are erroneous:
Radio-carbon C14 method produces dating with exactitude of plus minus 1500 years, therefore it is too crude for dating of events in historical timeframe!
The Almagest tractate, which lies as corner stone contemporary chronology, compiled in the 2nd century A D by Ptolemy, the founding father of astronomy, contains astronomical data of 9th to 16th century!
The Bronze Age,that has supposedly began 5000 years ago. Bronze is made of 90% copper and 10% tin, but the technology for tin extraction dates back to 14th century A D!.
All eclipses contained in manuscripts, like Thucydides one, relating 'ancient' events have exclusively medieval dating. All horoscopes cut in stone or painted in Egyptian temples, like Dendera have exclusively early medieval dating solutions.
Not quite what you have learned in school? Open your eyes, and, you will find sufficient proof to reach step by step the inevitable conclusion that the classical chronology is false and therefore, that the history of ancient and medieval world universally accepted today, is also false. Have a fresh outlook on everything said or printed about "ancient" and "enigmatic" Roman, Greek and Egyptian, medieval as well as all other "lost and found" civilizations.
Antiquity and Dark Ages are phantoms invented in the 16th 18th and polished in 19th 20thcenturies. Human civilization is in fact barely 1000 years old!

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

Dennis Damp's 9th edition is simply the best. He covers all aspects of applying, interviewing and then getting a job with the federal government and provides many useful tips and references. It is laid out in a logical manner and easy to understand. I have reviewed several books on the subject and Damp's book is by far the top of the class. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in getting a job with the federal government and jobs counselors as a useful resource in your reference library. This book is the A to Z on the federal job search process and a must read for federal job seekers.

Early writings of the great Lincoln.......2007-10-18
The writings of Lincoln are pervaded not only by an enormous intelligence and great power and feeling for the language, but by a wisdom and humility. Reading just a small part of the speeches and letters collected here gives the feeling nonetheless that the political leaders and the American public of that time were far more demanding, disciplined and intelligent than the public is today. Can you imagine anyone today having the patience to listen to six three- hour debates as was the case with the Lincoln-Douglas debates?
Another aspect of reading this work is simply learning and knowing more being more in the presence of America's greatest President and perhaps most exemplary moral figure. In this sense the feeling is that this volume is for those who truly admire Lincoln and wish to know his thought in greater depth.
Lincoln was not simply America's greatest President he was also the President whose writing and thought were unsurpassed. This volume gives further evidence of the greatness which most will know of from his even more famous works, the Gettysburg Address, and 'The Second Inaugural '.

The two volumes represent the best scholarship available today in terms of organizing and duplicating Lincoln's own words as they are found in personal letters, speech transcriptions, notes, memos, and other forms of written communication. This is a collection that is a fascinating look at the inner thoughts of Lincoln as he progresses from a congressional candidate in the 1850's, then as a candidate for President in 1860, and then as he prosecutes the war of the states until the time of his assassination.
The Library of America represents a rare and welcome to the world of print publishing. Abraham Lincoln was a great President. Where he falls on your list is a private judgment, but most put him at or near the top. It is true that there is a more vocal element of detractors nowadays, but those voices tend to also advocate versions of America that most of us would not recognize nor care to legitimate. This volume begins with Lincoln as a young man of twenty-three beginning political career.
The letters are quite interesting and cover a range of topics. It is interesting to note his private correspondence on various topics such as the Mexican War and compare those notes to his public speeches. While he is clearly a politician and aware of the need to garner votes, he uses his powerful intellect to find the line that will hold to his principles and still be convincing to the electorate.
This volume culminates with the seven famed Lincoln - Douglas debates when those two candidates contended for a seat in the Senate representing Illinois. Remember, this was before Senators were directly elected. These were debates to win popular support, but also to show political viability so when the public selected the legislature, the legislature would choose the preferred candidate for the Senate. These debates received national attention, which pleased both candidates. The format was this: first speaker for one hour, response by the second speaker for an hour and a half, the first speaker responds for a half hour. They alternated who spoke first with each debate. They went after each other directly with challenges, personal attacks, interruptions, and appeals to the crowd. Can you imagine any of our candidates even attempting such a risky format nowadays?
As I read the debates, Douglas seems to be a panderer and clearly supporting slavery in a way that seems odd for someone seeking office in Illinois. However, he was really positioning himself for the Presidency. Stephen Douglas did become Senator while Lincoln did not. However, two years later, Douglas did not get nominated as a candidate for President and Lincoln won the Presidency.
This great volume has a chronology of Lincoln's life and notes on the texts and an index.

I bought both volumns of this over the summer. I first bought Libary of America's publication of Jefferson which is a must have. Then Franklin. Those two are extremely good and I highly recommend them to anyone interested in raw historical material.
Now as for the volumes on Lincoln, don't get me wrong; they are also extremely good. As with all of these books, it is a rewarding reading experience to peruse collections of un-edited letters and speeches in their chronological order.
These volumes have every conceivable bit of correspondence imaginable. Lincoln apparently preferred the short letter, as there are several single paragraph letters to generals on the field and the like. He also wrote with simplicity and suprising bluntness. Volume 1 has a number of early speeches and famous debates which give you a sense of the lawyer turned politician. These of course are very lengthy. But also in volumes 1 and 2 there are numerous short letters which include urgent notes to General McClellan and others that would have made me quit the post had I been the receiver! In contrast there are letters revealing Lincolns more sensitive personal side.
I'm rating Lincoln's volumes just behind those of Jefferson and Franklin because there are no references detailing the circumstances for each writing. I felt a little lost not knowing what the impetus was behind the letters and correspondence. This is a departure from the Jefferson and Franklin books, which provide very detailed notes.
Finally I should say that Library of America's books are of very high quality for more than their authorship and reading content. All are bound nicely and printed on bible paper-like acid free paper. They are of exceptional quality just as books. I would say they are the best quality available.
Additionally, Library of America is a non-profit organization with the aim of distributing the work of America's essential writers without commercial gain.

Chris Mathews details how politics is played in the real world of modern day America. It's a sad tale of bribery and scandal and total abuse of the voters.
What Chris leaves out is a solution to our political problems. Everyone has some inkling of how bad it has gotten. What few people are capable of doing is cutting through the red tape of bureaucratic minds and coming up with a real solution.
Fortunately for us. The SOLUTION to all our problems can be solved by simply turning the voters loose on the Internet. In a kind of twist on realty, it would become impossible for the bribery specialists to bribe ALL the VOTERS ALL the time. That will allow for many good laws to hit the streets.
After reading Chris Mathews book, the reader wants to either leave the country for good or blow his brains out.
Have faith. There's hope. [...]

"Hardball" uses numerous actual examples from well-known politicians (eg. LBJ, Tip O'Neill, Nixon) to clearly make sensible points such as "all politics are local," and getting people to support you by having them help you.
Examples: LBJ began life on Capitol Hill as secretary to a Texas Congressman. LBJ deliberately chose to live in a hotel that had the most congressional secretaries, and would shower and brush his teeth several times a day in the communal bathroom as a means of meeting others. Within three months LBJ was elected Speaker of the "little Congress." Three years after becoming a Senator he had risen to the #1 Democrat position in the Senate. Prior to taking office as a Senator his first act in Washington was to interview for two hours the page who answered phones in the Democratic cloakroom - LBJ wanted to know which Senators worked hard, their interests, schedules, and strengths and weaknesses, as well as how to get things done, the best committees to get assigned to, etc.
Governor Carter called all the Democrat candidates who lost in '74, recognizing that they would be looking for the next place to work. In addition he would stay at their homes when campaigning, building closer relationships. (Carter's mistake, per Matthews, was to campaign against Washington insiders, and then ignore them after election. Reagan used the same campaign ploy, but carefully shmoozed all he could after his election.)
Throughout "Hardball," Matthews is also supporting ethics in politics - I wish current politicians would also read and adhere to it. (The term "Hardball" originated with President Nixon - he described Speaker O'Neill as playing only "hardball."

After not knowing what to really expect, I would say that the book was a great prep for the test. For the Air Traffic Scenarios, I would suggest using the web links given in the book. The CD did not work well for me, as others have previously mentioned. The Analogies section is a whole world unto itself, so good luck! But I did feel really prepared with the Letter Factory program after working from the CD. The same can be said for the Scan section. The Dials were also rather straight forward. The Angles were actually easier than the CD because you received your allotted time for each question. However, in the math section, there are definitely some answers that are not correct in the book - the CD portion was useless! - and it would be nice if they laid out how to achieve the math solutions to help you improve as you are studying. Overall, I am SO glad I got this book, but definitely wish I had more help from the CD in the math and ATC areas (and that it operated on Macs)!

There are obvious glitches in the software but overall this would be a toss up buy for those taking the AT-SAT with NO formal experience. I just took the AT-SAT and have to say that I don't feel absolutely confident that this book is what helped me score well. The majority of the book is stuff that you could read about on your own online. The software was only OK. BUT, being that there is absolutely nothing else out there that will give you an idea of what the AT-SAT consists of, I would recommend the "off the street" person applying for an Air Traffic Controller position to take a look at this.

As many have noted, the CD-ROM does have some software problems. However, this review is meant for the buyer who is interested in the AT-SAT and Air Traffic Control with minimal ATC knowledge or training. For this said person, this is the book for you. Contrary to the previous reviews, I would highly recommend this guide to a person who needs to acquaint themselves to this material.
While studying for the AT-SAT, I purchased other study books to prepare myself for the test. This book, was the eye-opener and is training me well for the test.
The book includes a thorough glossary, appendix, and explanation to the ATC career field.
Regardless of the CD-ROM's minute quirks, this study guide will equip you with the tools you need for this test! You just need a little tolerance to the stupidity of small software problems. (Which, to be realistic--occurs far less frequently than other regular computer software programs frequently used by the public.)

I am surprised by the low rating. I completely disagaree. I highly recommend this book, escpically for beginners like me. If you are just starting or already in the world of grant writing, this book is a MUST. It takes the unceratinty and stress out of writing and the daunting task ahead. If you don't know where to start and need guidenace along the way without hiring a grant writer or delegating the responsibility to someone else in your organization, then get this book. I've scanned other books in this area, and they do not come close to what this book offers.

This is a pretty nuts and bolts approach to preparing an NIH grant and reads much like the pages on the NIH websites. It has nicely brought together a lot of the detailed information (different types of grants, different application deadlines, etc) that is on the NIH websites and into a somewhat more user friendly format. But do not think about buying this book to help you actually WRITE a grant. This is for novices who don't know a K01 from a P01. If looking for help in preparing the best possible grant, I suggest the books by Ogden or Yang.

I purchased the book on the grounds that I needed information about the hiring process and the steps it takes to gain employment with the FBI. In my opinion there should not be any prep books or material for the job, either you have what it takes to make it or you don't. This book gave me what I needed to know so that I was informed about how hiring decisions were made and what steps the agency takes in selecting candidates. I wish all who purchase this book the best of luck and to just remember that you have to live up to a lot to be part of the FBI.

This book is a wonderful backgrounder on the FBI, its history, and how things work within the agency. The list of field offices and the areas they cover was alone worth the cost of the book. The interview hints were sparce, but very applicable. The problem is the application process has changed in some pretty dramatic ways since this book was published. The FBI now uses on-line applications and the application form has been changed. The needs and focus of the Bureau have also changed since 9/11
Yes, this book was helpful. But if you are interested in applying to the FBI, contact the Applicant Coordinator in your local field office and search the web for a law enforcement employment message board to get the latest news in the world of FBI hiring.

Great author, too. I had him as a Criminal Justice professor at Grand Valley State University. He was an adjunct professor there for a couple of years. Very nice, very knowledgeable. This book is a good reference and starting point. Sure, most of the information is available on the Internet, but why go through all the trouble of finding it when it can all be at your fingertips?
