Excellent Resource.......2001-01-25
This book was the text my instructor assigned in an interpersonal communication class I took a few years ago. It is very readable, as are all books by the Coreys. It covers a wide range of topics and it uses case examples to illustrate the points. It isn't a counselling book in terms of having alot of exercises on questioning or empathy. It does discuss counselling skills, but it is more concerned with the worker's personal development, in terms of ethics, self-awareness, self-care, etc. The suggested activities at the end of the chapter really help the learning process. My only criticism of the book is that a few of the chapters are a tad long.

Provides an essential view of career counseling.......2004-07-14
As an instructor of career counseling, it has been difficult to find a volume that covers the field sufficiently. Until now. This book is outstanding. It is extremely thorough and well written. The only issue is that it is about 10 years old. An updated edition would make this the perfect text for a master's level course is career counseling. Each chapter ends with an excellent case example that my students have found to be enlightening!

This short, well-written book provides a concise introduction and overview of important concepts and methods in career counseling. A wide variety of theories of vocational development are described, with several chapters on how to apply the theories to counseling practice.

Stressful Lives of Teens.......2000-04-27
First off, I gave this book to my cousin as a birthday present. I remember the time when I was a teenager and some of the issues and concerns I dealt with , as many young people do today; some more life-altering than others; i.e. drugs and alcohol, depression, suicide and family upheavals as well as gun violence. I found the book to be very user-friendly and read the book at our local library. The discussions suggested within the book are helpful in leading pointed, educational sessions with teens and would be great for counselors and teachers alike. And the fact in is for grades 7-12, makes it a great resource to the mental health and self-help communities.

great topics when you don't have time to plan.......2006-06-02
I have this book and use it as a school social worker a lot with my 5th and 6th grade students. I'd say it is appropriate for 5th through 12th. When I don't have time to plan I grab this book! There are detailed lessons for discussing lots and lots of important topics. The other "Talk with Teens" book is also very good. I recommend them both!

Talk with Teens is an interesting and helpful book for people who work with teen groups or who would like to. It is written in an easy to read format, helpful to a layperson, counselor, or social worker. Great tips are given on setting up new groups and following through. Topics, questions and worksheets are helpful to those who are already doing groups and need something different.
