One of the best........2007-09-18
I love this book and rank it high on my list (along with Winning Nice - another great read I just did a review on)...I LOVE this book because it's so easy to read, you can flip through the tips (they are all about 1-3 pgs long) and the insights he offers are amazing and so easy to use in your everyday life. I buy this book for everyone I know when they are coming on a landmark event in their life or need some inspiration. Get it!
Useful.......2007-08-05
I thought the book was fantastic,. Very easy to read. Finished it in one shot 2 hours.
Lots of good lesson 1. You dont have to finish a book just because you bought it! was the most useful to me. I always felt guilty everytime i bought a book and it was a bad choice.
Loved almost all the chapters. Probably some of them are repetitive but felt good to be reminded again.
who will cry when u die.......2007-02-19
very good book. read it after reading the saint, surfer and ceo.
Your family will if you waste $16 on this book!.......2005-11-17
I did not read the book but just flipped through it and I felt like stating my opinion.
The book is just a collection of commonsense advices cloaked in quotations from scriptures. You don't need a $16 book to tell you
1. Have a mentor (My Note: No you dn't need one)
2. Carry a book with you all the time (My Note: meaningless advice)
etc

Power of Perspective.......2004-08-08
Robin Sharma, the Author says: "When you live your truth, your dreams beat a path toward your doorstep". A practical solution to create a sound Life and strikingly balance life filling in the gaps with humility. Robin refers to his father's words that a tree that has most fruits is that which bends to the ground. And though there are some exceptions he have found in his own experience that it is true-the people who know the most, who have achieved the most, and have lived the most, are also the people closest to the ground. In a word, they are humble. There is something special about being in the presence of a person who is humble. Robin sharma thinks that practicing humility shows that you respect others and reminds us that there is something for us to learn. It sends a signal to those around you that you are open to receiving the gift of their knowledge and listening to what they have to say. The book is door to exceptional life and live life to the fullest with a purpose and attain peace. The book is indepth wisdom with absolute life changing solutions to cope with life's trials, challenges, frustrations and so on. As Robin Sharma recently visited India in preparation for the production of 'The Monk who sold his Ferrari' as a major motion picture, Robin reminded in his speech that wherever in the world he went, he found human beings struggle with same challenges, same longings. All people are part of one great family with invisible ties. Thus, peace is at your own doorstep and Robin Sharma's books are real 'Gem Picks' - Yeah, sure you can surf his website too and hear his Gem voice too! Good Pick & Great Message.

It's about time! Julie Morgenstern has written an organizing book that covers a new way of looking at the task of organizing effectively without labeling or blaming the person behind the lack of organization. Rather, she says, people who don't organize just never learned how to organize, through no fault of their own--after all, it's not a skill that's taught in school. That said, she gets down to work helping you figure out an organizing system that will really work for you, not a system based on cookie-cutter filing concepts or special storage units.
Morgenstern's "from the inside out" system begins by laying out the possible reasons for a failure of organization: technical errors (like having a complex organizing system that breaks down), external realities (like not enough space for your belongings), and psychological obstacles (like fear of failure--or success). Then, her Analyze and Strategize steps help create a plan of action based on your needs and goals, and the brief chapter called "Attack: Getting the Job Done" offers basic ideas for making space. The largest section of the book, "Applying What You've Learned," addresses the specifics of organizing workspaces, home offices, living spaces, and storage areas. Each section has a "How Long Will It Take?" box that gives a realistic time estimate, and Morgenstern's "Julie's No-Brainer Toss List" for each area gives the permission and encouragement that most of us have been waiting for to get rid of things we'll never use again. The section at the end, "Tackling Time and Technology," is worth its weight in DayTimers and PalmPilots. Whatever your organizing issues are, you're not a hopeless case, and you don't need special equipment--just a little understanding of the problem and a willingness to plan before diving in.
Book Description
Veteran professional organizer Morgenstern has spent years honing the principles of organization into a simple, and universal system. Organizing from the inside out--developing a plan tailored to each individual's psychological needs--ensures, once and for all, a system that won't break down.Morgenstern explains the basic concepts--analyze, strategize, attack--then provides tips gleaned from her years of experience with offices, home offices, mobile offices, children's rooms, kitchens, garages, and storage spaces. Organizing From the Inside Out will be welcomed by corporate executives, entrepreneurs and the self-employed, working parents, students and city dwellers in small apartments--anyone facing an overwhelming amount of clutter, both physical and psychic. Also provided are useful chapters on time management and taming technology, critical elements in any modern organizing scheme.

Organizing from the Inside out -2nd ed........2007-09-23
This book is very helpful to get a home and life organized. I like the way it is separated into specific areas and the specific directions to get that area in order. The directions and suggestions are easy to understand and use. The second edition is larger and contains a section I really needed to use - that of organizing photographs.
Very good Reading.......2007-09-15
I really enjoyed reading this book and usually this type of book can be a little dull. It was very motivating and she didn't just tell you to throw all your stuff out. She gave good advice on how to organize the things you have and want to keep. She also had a way of not sounding judgemental of people just because they had a problem of keeping everything.
Organized - not neat.......2007-08-14
One of the most important points in Organizing from the Inside Out is that being organized is not the same thing as being neat. If you want your house to look neat, you can shove everything under the bed and in the closets. Being organized means knowing where everything is and having it conveniently located to where you need it. Julie Morgenstern divides the process of getting organized into a few important steps:
1. Sort. Before you start throwing things away, figure out what all ended up in that drawer or closet. Put it in piles and put labels on the piles. This will help you figure out how to make a home for everything and/or how to make sure it doesn't end up there again. If you just throw all the trash away, that closet will most likely collect trash again.
2. Purge. Now you can throw away all that junk.
3. Attack. This is the figure out where it's all going to go. Think where it will be most helpful and easiest to keep organized. If all your books end up by the sofa, don't put them away in the office upstairs. Put a basket or a bookshelf next to the sofa.
4. Containerize. Measure everything, figure out what kind of containers would work best and then go buy them. Not before! Put nice labels on everything so the whole family knows what goes where.
5. Equalize. Spend five minutes every day putting things back in their place.
She makes a good point that people that like to organize usually end up in one of two categories:
* Those that like to purge. (This would be me. Learned from my mom.)
* Those that like to containerize. I know lots of these - they like to buy containers and shelves and things. More gadgets to hold the junk says the purger.
Skip the chapter on technology. She is obviously not a heavy computer or gadget user.
Love this book, but I'm surprised she doesn't stress purging stuff more.......2007-07-14
First off, let me say I loved this book, got a lot of ideas from it, and use it constantly as a reference. She is a great writer, and really explored some new concepts. Do I think it could have gone a little more in-depth? Yes. What surprised me is that while she did touch on the subject of getting rid of excess clutter, she really didn't push. People will have a lot less to organize if they lose such an emotional attachment to their stuff. Maybe she didn't want to take the chance on offending some of the more hard-core pack rats, and didn't want to use "tough love". But I personally felt that she could have added some more about overcoming the emotional attachment people have to things they no longer need or use. Other than that, this is top-notch, with great websites at the end of the book to help get you organized.
Brilliant Read.......2007-07-04
Who would have thought that looking at a kindergarten class room you could organize your whole life?! This book is great. I have read a few organizational books that have left no impression on me, and then I read this one. It is great - it does not tell you to throw out 80% of what you own and then organize the remaining 20%, it actually tells you how to organize everything you own. Not only that it looks into the deeper issues of what's stopping you getting organized in the first place, which then helps ensure that you will stay organized after all the hard work. The book can be read from cover to cover or you can skip to whatever section you think you need to work on first.

In Organizing from the Inside Out, author Julie Morgenstern used three main strategies to whip a living space or office into shape: "analyze, strategize, attack." Using the same system, Morgenstern now shows readers how to get rid of chaotic schedules in order to live more comfortable and productive lives. Morgenstern likens a cluttered schedule to a cluttered closet. For example, a closet is typically "crammed with more stuff than storage," and a schedule is typically "crammed with more tasks than time."
Those who fear "time management" because they worry about living uncreative or overly scheduled lives will find themselves reassured by Morgenstern's ability to customize her system. The most important thing readers must do, she emphasizes, is to create a time management system that fits one's personal style--whether it be spontaneous and easily distracted or highly regimented and efficient. "Just as everyone's living room looks different, reflecting the individual's or family's values and priorities, everyone's time management system will look different, reflecting what's important to him or her," she explains. Fortunately, readers can easily customize her excellent advice while learning how to create a personal time map, streamline routine tasks, conquer procrastination and chronic lateness, and manage all the inevitable crises and distractions of daily life. Speaking of procrastination, what better time than now to try this book out--ridding yourself of all that draining clutter so you can get on with living the life you want? --Gail Hudson
Book Description
America's #1 organizer now takes on our biggest enemy--the time crunchIn this fast-moving world, no greater challenge exists--in both our personal and professional lives--than organizing and managing our time. Now Julie Morgenstern, whose bestselling Organizing from the Inside Out has become the new standard in this category, explains how to meet and conquer the time challenge once and for all. Morgenstern's groundbreaking "from-the-inside-out" approach helps readers uncover their own psychological stumbling blocks and strengths, and develop a time-management system that suits their individual needs. By applying her proven three-step program--analyze, strategize, and attack--and following her effective guidelines, readers will find more time for work, family, self-improvement, or whatever is most important to them. As Francis Willet, founder and CFO of Day Runner, says, "Morgenstern shows us how to look inside at our own habits and style to create a plan that works, and have fun doing it."
Customer Reviews:
Excellent; just a little repetative.......2007-10-19
I LOOOOVE this book. It so explains the psychology behind tardiness, mismanagement of time, etc. It definitely gives a great step-by-step guide on how to manage time. It also takes into consideration people's personalities and individual lifestyles. For instance, people who are afraid that a rigid "time map" might hinder their creativity and spontaneity...it gives us various methods to deal with the realities of our lives and accept our weaknesses (rather than continually pretending that they don't exist and continually failing!) and find ways around those weakness, and use our strengths to our advantage. The book shows how to reach our goals by using our time to our advantage. It can transform the person whose time is chaotic and imprisoned and turn them into the person whose life is orderly and free!
The only disadvantage to this book (very minor) is that the author starts repeating herself 2/3 of the way into the book. As I was typing notes throughout my reading, I started realizing that I was typing the same things over and over.
Good time strategies for aquired brain injuries.......2007-10-18
I have an acquired brain injury from falling down some stairs. I find the strategies in this book to be very helpful indeed. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs to get a handle on their time.
Worth Reading.......2007-07-04
I really loved this book. I got so much out of it, that I have started to read all her other books too. She is really different in her approach to time management and it really works for me. The book is very well written, easy to follow and is a book you can keep to use as a resource for many years to come.
My Clients Love this Book.......2007-03-24
I just got this book because my business coaching clients often have issues with running a business, often by themselves, and finding enought time to have a life. Julie offers great, easy to implement strategies that help the really busy person get control. I love that she looks at the hidden reasons behind our time management difficulties and styles. I keep recommending it and will continue!
Joseph.......2007-01-10
Perfect. I use this text in my teaching of a college level course.
For everyone who has been trying to be organized...this is the book to start with !

Book Description
America may be one of the most powerful and wealthy countries in the world, but our intense work ethic and stressful lifestyles take an enormous toll on our quality of life. William Sinunu realized after a close brush with death that his own exhausting, career-driven existence was preventing him from truly living, and he needed to find a way to regain the health, happiness, and balance he had known growing up abroad and had witnessed during his career as a flight attendant. In Life Could Be Sweeter, Sinunu invites us along on his fascinating journey, offering a unique glimpse into different practices and beliefs from around the world that suggest a more rewarding lifestyle may be easier to achieve than we think. These 101 beautifully written vignettes, by turns funny and poignant, explore every area of our lives, and encourage us to slow down and find a better life balance by drawing inspiration and practical advice from our neighbors around the world.
Customer Reviews:
Simply Fabulous!!.......2007-01-23
Since I too travel a lot, I really appreciated Mr. Sinunu's stories. I wish everyone would be exposed to his writings, especially in todays climate. It was SUPERB!!
Great Gift!.......2007-01-18
I read this book at the library and the next day ordered five copies for holiday gifts! Perfect for traveler or wanna-be traveler.
Very simple and very true..........2006-07-25
This book jumped out at me in the store. Who wouldn't want ideas on "living a more rewarding life?" The author, William Sinunu has traveled around the world looking for "cultural intelligence."
He travels to Norway and learns about simplicity, to India and learns about inner peace, and to Spain, to learn about creativity. He also keeps his eyes open when his friends travel to the United States. He studies them and asks questions and how to make your life "sweeter."
Maybe not everyone in those countries is exactly like the example he writes about, but one thing he discovers is certainly true: Some Americans rush around, wanting more, needing more...money, time, things. We can always learn from other people, other cultures. From each other.
I loved that, at the end of each small story (only about 2-3 pages) he would have a quote at the bottom, or a blurb taken from psycholgists. The book was fun to read, it read very quickly, and I found myself breathing more slowly as I went.
Even though it's frustrating sometimes to be seen in a certain way, as if our culture is "wrong" somehow, you can take from it what you will. I, myself, would like to be more like others in the world. We only have one life to live, why rush through it?
A treat to read!.......2006-06-16
Sometimes, a book will catch me off guard . . . such was the
case with LIFE COULD BY SWEETER
by William Sinunu . . . I had never heard of it or the author before,
but when browsing in a bookstore, its jacket caught my
attention . . . it promised "the secrets to living a happier, healthier,
more rewarding life" by learning from our neighbors around the world.
That sounded good to me . . . turns out that I was not let
down . . . this was a treat to read, and I've already enjoyed
sharing much of it with others.
Some of the advice is basic, but we need to be reminded
of it; e.g., Sinunu describes one trip he was on in this passage:
"Oh no, not at Miss Daphne's party," our hostess scolded, shaking her
finger playfully at her newfound friend. "All the watches come off baby."
Reaching toward him, she unsnapped his watch and slipped it into his
pocket, then grabbed his hands and began to dance. "Life is to enjoy,"
she reminded him. "Just laugh and let it all go. Make life a vacation."
I also liked how the author cited various research studies to support
his beliefs, such as:
* According to psychologist Thomas Spencer, Americans wear
approximately twenty percent of the clothes they own.
* According to a study examining the effect of close relationships on
health and well-being by University of Michigan psychologist Stephanie
Brown, it's better to give than receive! The study found that older adults
who do not help others are more than twice as likely to pass away as
those who do help out.
* According to Psychologist Paul Rozin, Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas
in Europe are approximately two-thirds the size of personal pan pizzas
in the United States. According to an article in the August 14, 2004
WALL STREET JOURNAL, a serving of Philadelphia Cream Cheese
marketed to U.S. consumers contains fourteen percent more calories
than the same size serving in Italy. A jar of Hellmann's Mayonnaise
purchased in the United Kingdom has half the saturated fat of the
Hellmann's sold in the United States. Kellogg's All-Bran bought in
the United States has three times the sodium as the same brand sold
in Mexico. A standard beverage bottle for sodas in Europe is about half
a pint--roughly half the amount of the standard sixteen-ounce can sold
in the United States. Perhaps it's no wonder that the United States has
the highest rate of obesity in the world.
Lastly, there were these other memorable tidbits that made this
book so interesting to me--and the perfect gift to give somebody:
* Running her hand along her chin, Rania said, "Well, I do have a few
rules that I try to remember before every purchase. I ask myself, `Do I
really need this? Do I really love it? Is it made well?' " Deep in thought,
Rania went on, "But my cardinal rule," she said, clapping her hands gently
together in front of her face, "is to always go for quality. I buy the cheapest
of the best, never the best of the cheapest. That way, I spend relatively
little on clothes, but still have a good-looking wardrobe."
* [at a party for friends] "To our friends," Martine whispered as a
single tear trickled down her cheek, "To the family we have the luxury
of choosing. Each of you is very special to us. Thank you for joining
us tonight." . . .
As Eduoard grew misty-eyed, Martine reached out and took his hands.
"Life is about cherishing and appreciating the people in our lives," she said
quietly.
* I remember rocking in the chair by his bedside, pleading with God to take
him now and end his suffering. Even if euthanasia had been legal in the
United States, could I have made the decision to end his life? I cannot
honestly say. I was so distraught at the time that I don't know if I was
in the proper state of mind to make such a momentous decision. Nor do I
know what means could be used that would guarantee no pain. What I do
know is that dying does not scare me, only the potential suffering that
precedes it. I remember wondering at the time: If we put our animals out
of their misery when they are in severe pain and there is no hope for
recovery, why not the family member we love?
Great Book.......2006-03-21
This was a great book to pick up and put down. This book really made me see a lot of things in a different perspective. I have also tried to adapt a couple of the passages to my own life. I passed this book on to a friend. This was one that is to good not to share.

Customer Reviews:
Simple ideas with profound potential.......2006-10-10
Every adult should read this book. In a light hearted, easy to read way, Kotecki shows us how to get back to those curious, honest, playful days of our childhood and incorporate them into our "responsible adult lives". This would be a perfect gift for any grown-up.....especially those you think might be suffering from "adultitis".
Great Book, Must Read for ages 9 to 99.......2006-10-09
A great book, a must read for anyone ages 9 to 99. Makes a great gift. This book is something that you would not normally buy for yourself but once you read it you will be glad you did. "Kim and Jason" brings out the child in all of us. Read it, enjoy and pass on the good feelings to those around you. Everyone needs a little childhod now and then. BUY THIS BOOK!
Who Wouldn't Want to Escape Adulthood?.......2006-04-03
You know how sometimes you get to the end of a book, and you close it, and you just want to immediately go back to the beginning and start reading it again? That happened to me this week with the book Escape Adulthood, by Jason Kotecki. I think that it will really resonate with visitors to this site, especially those of you who are here mainly because you think that children's books are cool.
Escape Adulthood is a book about conquering "Adultitis". It's about recapturing that childlike excitement and optimism that all of us used to have. The book consists of 8 primary chapters, each discussing a "secret from childhood for stressed out grown-ups." Like "delight in the little things" and "play "and "maintain perspective". Each chapter ends with 11 concrete tips for getting started. For example:
From Chapter 3 (Get Curious) we have tip number 8: "Make it a personal mission to learn something new every day. Read lots of books. It is well known that leaders are readers. That's why mansions always have libraries in them."
From Chapter 4 (Live Passionately): "Even if it's just an hour a week, or 15 minutes each day, do whatever you can to try to carve out some extra time for yourself and your favorite hobby."
From Chapter 5 (Play): "Next time you go out to eat, order dessert first."
Some of the tips are more original than this, and not all of them will be relevant for every reader, but I'll bet that everyone could benefit from following a few of Jason's suggestions. Even if you don't intend to actually follow the suggestions (you're quite happy with your own level of maturity, thank you very much) the book is still fun to read. I laughed out loud many times while reading it. It's also a short, quick read. You could easily squeeze in a chapter every night before bed. And there are comic strips sprinkled throughout (Jason is a cartoonist, with a strip called Kim and Jason).
I do have one small caveat about my recommendation of this book. Throughout this book, Jason makes regular references to God and faith and the Bible. I didn't find it overwhelming or preachy, but if you are someone who will be bothered by this, then this isn't the book for you. Stop here, and go read Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass or Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince instead.
But if you think that you might be suffering from adultitis, or if you just want a book that advises you to play more, then Escape Adulthood is just the book for you.
A slightly longer version of this review was originally published on my blog, Jen Robinson's Book Page, on February 3, 2006.
Remember the Childlike.......2005-10-18
Jason's writing style is smart and insightful, as well as humorous. He reminds us that we can retrieve our childlike qualities from the cobwebs of our brains and tells how to use those to have a more fun and meaningful life. I enoyed his references and quotes, but especially his childhood anecdotes...they conjure up my own childhood memories.
Fond Memories.......2005-10-18
Being in the same age range as Jason (1 year younger), and growing up in the very seasonal midwest like he did, I really relate with many of Jason's views. Our childhood's were really not that much different, especially in regards to imaginative playtime. Reading this book easily brought me back to many fond memories of being a child, and many realizations that adulthood really can stink. Seriously, this is a very insightful and enjoyable book, and whether or not you try to follow any of these steps to lighten the mood of your adult life, you will still be brought back to the enjoyable memories of your childhood, and really....that's not a bad reaction at all, right?

Book Description
From the bestselling author of Getting Organized, an enlightening yet practical program for restructuring your life to meet the conflicting demands on your time "I should read more, I should work out three times a week, I should be able to see my child's soccer games, I should be able to do it all." Sound familiar? Worthwhile reading.......2006-01-30
This was a very interesting approach to simplifying one's life. There were a few concepts I'll be able to incorporate into my own life, but I found most of it to be good in theory and not very adaptable to my personal situation and lifestyle.
Useful tool in time management; not technology management.......2005-05-27
Winston's plan helps people deal with a growing list of priorities and an inflexible time frame. She does not address the glut of technology- related information that overwhelms people today or fundamental issues regarding directions and use of office and household technology.
Useful book that will help you restructure your life.......2002-03-25
Heard the abridged version of GETTING OUT FROM UNDER by
best-selling organizational guru Stephanie Winston . . . it was so
good that I now want to go back and get the book so I can read
all her practical ideas . . . I've enjoyed Winston before (her GETTING
ORGANIZED is considered a classic in the field) . . . this latest
effort switches her from writing about "things" to helping you
restructure your life to meet the conflicting demands on both
your time and energy.
I appreciated the fact that she reminded me about the constant
need to TRAF; i.e., when you have paper, you can only toss it,
refer it to somebody else, , act on it or file it . . . this, of course,
is often easier said than done . . . but I shall try to do so! . . . in
addition, i appreciated being introduced to her BOAT acronym
for breaking very big life goals into a system of organized
tasks . . . all you need to do is brainstorm what needs to
be done, organize a strategy for getting it done, add tasks to
your daily list to get it done, and then time spread these tasks.
Another winner from the Organization Queen Stephanie Winston.......2001-02-01
I must have every book Winston has written, and I've definitely profited by them.
This book is a little harder to grasp because (1) you are not moving THINGS but ordering your TIME and (2) you don't always have control over other people as you would your filing cabinet and closets. Winston does deal with time robbers and emergencies--which are some of those uncontrollable things, and give good hints for organizing your day.
I think it is a bit ambitious to include job changing in such a book , but since this is a task that you must make time for and that many people find hard to schedule because of inertia or unwillingness or the unpleasantness of getting going on a job search, I suppose it is just as well that this topic is covered. But for job hunting, you'd probably need a more specific book.
An Original Approach to Defining Priorities.......2000-04-19
Winston dealt with the external clutter in our lives in her first few books. In this book she effectively tackles the internal clutter which leaves us feeling scattered and unfulfilled. She does this by performing "time triage" in the three main sections of the book. First, she deals with emergency situations in people's schedules, citing examples from her clients and offering suggestions and strategies on how to add time to your day immediately. Then she moves on to "Examine Your Personal Universe" and guides you through creating a solar system technique to help clarify what's really important in your life. Finally, she reveals methods for acting on what you learned about yourself in the solar system exercise. The book is clear and well-written. So why just 4 stars? Perhaps too much ground is covered too quickly, from cooperative housing to changing jobs, but her ideas are a good launching pad for effecting life changes. I needed more help with basic time robbers and did not get enough help there, but the exercises in values clarification were quite helpful. The book does live up to its subtitle: "Redefining Your Priorities in an Overwhelming World."

Description:
Translocation is frequently used to return rehabilitated animals to the wild, and is an important tool for the population management of endangered species. Whilst experimental field manipulations are important in determining optimal rehabilitation and translocation strategies, they are rarely implemented in practice. We used an experimental approach to examine the effects of translocation on post-release survival and behaviour, and the impact of introductions on the recipient wild population, using the European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus), the most common mammal admitted to British wildlife hospitals. The post-release survival and behaviour of five groups were compared: three different translocation treatments, one wild population at the release sites and one control wild population away from the release sites. Individuals that were held in captivity prior to translocation had a better survival rate on release than individuals that were translocated with a minimum time spent in captivity. We suggest that temporary captivity improves chances of survival by allowing the build up of fat reserves and reducing manipulation stress suffered on release. No evidence was found for intra-specific competition between introduced individuals and the recipient wild hedgehog population.
