For such a young writer he already has a really good grasp of how to pull you into a story. I read this type of fantasy to escape real life for a few minutes and that is what happens when I read his books. Please keep writing.
Strike Two..........2007-10-22
I'm going to keep this review fairly short since it involves recalling something deeply unpleasant.
To preface, let me say that my work requires me to keep up with what's hot amongst young consumers and that I enjoy a good fantasy romp as much as the next reader, but don't limit myself to any one genre if I can help it. I say this to make it clear that I've got no axe to grind.
I wandered through Eragon over the summer and found it tedious, derivative and overall a lightweight diversion. That said, I was willing to give Paolini a second chance and see if he'd advanced as a writer and shown some development. If you are like me in this regard and are contemplating such an action, allow me to save you the trouble.
I can honestly say that Eldest is one of the worst books I've ever read. The story flies off again, Magpie-like, plifering the shiny bits from the reading of your standard teenage boy who likes his Mythology, Sword and Sorcery and Movies. All of this is semidigested and hawked up onto the page again, so that while reading, one is incredulous that someone, somewhere in Knopf didn't start yelling that the young Emperor, while not naked, was playing dress up in his precessesors robes. Those robes are shimmering and radiant, rich and enchanting- but they don't fit Christopher Paolini.
I know that there are a lot of rabid fans who will be dismayed and angry, but this is printed fast food with nothing substantive to offer. Best to go directly to the inspiration, then to waste time on this; there's a lot better fantasy literature out there for younger readers then this derivative twaddle.
Contradiction.......2007-10-21
To all those people who feel Eldest didn't live up to its first book Eragon, i just want to say i think you're dead wrong. While I agree with the fact that Christopher did not need to tell us about every single lesson Eragon and Oromis had with one another, i feel that he wote about them for a reason. I feel the lessons we were told about will show up or become of some importance in the third Inheritence book. And i don't think by saying Paolini sort of stole ideas from Lord of the Rings is fair. All writers get their inspiration from books they read as a kid.
DO NOT READ THE REST IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK, THERE ARE SPOILERS AHEAD.
Now for my opinion of the book. I thought it was a very interesting, maybe a bit boring at times, book. It kept me reading, i kept asking myselfwhatisgonna happen to Roran and the village?, Oh no Katrina's been taken!, and my jaw dropped when i got to the part where Oromis and Glaedr were revealed to us. I alsolove the family relations Eragon has with Morzan and Murtagh. GENIUS! It just gives the story that much more of a twist. And it will, in my opinion, bring a lot of emotion and depth to the third Inhertence book. I am also curious to see how Roran will free Katrina, if he does that is. Sloan turining traitor to his own people and daughter was unexpected, i mean you knew he was upset but not upset enough to put Katrina in danger.
Overall Eldest was what i expected it to be and more. I cannotwait for the third and final installment to Inheritence and i hope Paolini writes more books after he is finished with the Inheritence trilogy.
KEEP WRITNG CHRIS! You have more fans than you do haters.

Loved Eragon, was a bit disappointed from the second, but after reading it again after some while I found that it contained some intresting aspects e.g continuing the story of Roran as well as Eragon.
All in all i think it is a nice sequel of the first leaving many things open as for who will the last egg hatch? (and yes a second dragon egg has hatched) The end is especially fantastic much is revelled but as so often throws a whole lot of new question making you at the end longing for the next book.
Would recomend it for Eragon lovers or people who like good fantasy stroies, can't wait for the next!!!

Falling Flat........2007-09-24
NOTE: I did not like this book, so if you are a die-hard fan of Sage and the sieris i suggest hiding this review.
After captivating you with her last two books. Sage's attempt at a story is laughable.
The writing style that gripped her readers in Flyte and Magick does not appear in Physic. The people seemed to have lost their flames and senses of humors, Snorri and the Queen have no death to either of them. Each has a chapter devoted to them but they are loosely explained and the chapters tell nothing.
Worser still is the fact that most of the Heap family is not even int he book. lovable Silas Heap and Motherly Sarah heap are in the background, the book does not seem complete and the series looks unprofessional.
The plot is confusing and always makes you re read passages and wonder what is going on. The word choice is good but overly done, there is none of the simplicity that was so endearing about Magyk and Flyte.
The book is a real put downer. After Sage's steller novels you would expect something a little more high class and gripping. For fans of the siearies, I suggest pretending that this book did not exist. It si a dissaponment to her fans.
I sincerely hope that Sage recaptures the magyk in next novel.
Physik - A Great Read for Septimus Heap Lovers!.......2007-08-24
This was by far the best of the Septimus Heap series! If you have read Magyk and Flyte then you must read Physik! The plot is very in depth and exciting and new characters are introduced that you will come to love as much as Jenna and Septimus. What a wonderful book and hopefully there will be another in the series!

I am a school teacher and my students were all reading the Septimus Heap series of books. I decided to read them as well, and they are FANTASTIC! I was disappointed that Physik was the last of the series(so far), I want to keep reading about him!

Barely stands out in the crowd........2007-10-07
As I've said, these books are great, wonderful. When I was reading them first two years ago, I found myself dreaming about it at night and picking it up first thing in the morning. These are books that truly capture the imagination and brilliantly well written.
Unfortunately, it has a lot of competition. With so many other great fantasy books out there, it's really hard to stand out in the crowd. Consequently, they've slowly faded from my mind. True, when the third book finally does come out, odds are I will be at these books again with the same ferocity as I had with the Harry Potter books, but for now, they simply sit on the book shelf collecting dust.
On a happier note, I've read both of the Inheritance books at least three times each, and you simply can't help but get excited during some great moments, and the art work for the covers is simply fantastic.
Still, there are so many other stories out there just like this one...
Tell you what. Get these books, because Paolini is a truly talented writer and destined to go places, and you decide whether you like them or not. And who knows, maybe soon in the future, he will come out with an even more exciting, more original story.

The movie was horrible...BUT...the books are MUCH better in comparison. the books are detailed and easy to read. Lots of action and interesting story (somewhat predictable). this is a great series and i am looking forward to the third book. the books are targeted for younger audiences but as said before very interesting and older readers should still enjoy the book.

The Titan's Curse.......2007-10-16
I thought that The Titan's Curse was a fantastic read because the plot was about a boy around my age who seems to always be getting into trouble, but not just any normal trouble. The boy's name is Percy Jackson and his father is the god named Poseidon. Yes, his father is the ruler of the ocean and the brother of Zeus. However, because his mother is a mortal Percy is a demigod, which means he's half god and half mortal. Oddly enough, Percy is getting into trouble with Greek and Roman mythological monsters from Homer's epic adventure, The Odyssey. Some of the monsters Percy runs into are a manticore, an ophiotaurus, and literally bits and pieces of the Titan Lord himself. This book is part of an unfinished series called Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
There are a few reasons why I thought this book was such a great read. One reason I read this book with so much enthusiasm was because I was always on the edge of my seat. There was so much excitement that I had trouble setting the book down and doing my homework. Oddly enough, I would choose to read this book a hundred times over playing video games. Another reason I enjoyed the book was it had a steady pace. The book had a nice steady build up to the climax, and a nice steady decent from the climax. This made me feel like there was just the right amount of action and suspense throughout the book. A third reason I couldn't stop reading this book was I could relate Percy's life to my own. For example, Percy thinks he is more experienced than he really is. On page fourteen, Percy says, "The di Angelos were in danger. They might be long gone by the time I found my friends. I knew monsters. I could handle this myself." Sometimes, I think something similar when I become over confident after I do a good deed or make a funny joke.
There are many great parts in this story, but the best part is during the battle in San Francisco between a group of three demigods, a goddess, a huntress, and a small portion of the ever growing army of the Titan Lord. This battle is the best part because most of the action and excitement is released in this short blossom of words.
Even though the book is great overall, there could be some improvements. One improvement could be the dialogue. Sometimes I found the dialogue to be a little on the cheesy side. For example, Percy's demigod friend Annabeth calls him "seaweed brain" because he is a son of Poseidon. I understand that the author was trying to put humor into the book, but such an obvious nickname was more silly than humorous. However, even with the missed humor, many people would like this book. If the reader likes mythology, action scenes, and books in a series, they will absolutely love this book. If I could give this book a rating, one being the best and ten being the worst, I would pick one because I was so engulfed in the words and the story every time I picked up the book. Fortunately for all readers who like the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Titan's Curse is the third book, so there are two more wonderful pieces of work before this book, and the series still isn't finished because I am sure more will be written. But readers beware: once you start reading the series, you won't be able to stop.

This book is a my daughter's favorite! My nine year old daughter loved this whole series and wouldn't leave me alone until I got her the 2nd (and ultimately the 3rd) book. She loved the hidden twists and turns to the story. She thought the book was quite exciting. She likes the mix of ancient mythology and action. She reads one to two 100+ books a week and this is her Favorite series, by far, of all the books she has read.

I think The Titan's Curse is an oustanding book. It will enchant readers so that they will never put the book down! I'd say it is as good as any Harry Potter book. This book is a must have for kids around 10 years old. The Titan's Curse is about the gods and the titans. Kronos' forces are putting him back together piece by piece! Artemis chases an important monster and she is caught by Luke and Atlas. Annabeth is also trapped. 5 campers from Camp Half Blood are sent on a quest to free Artemis. There is a prophecy that says when one specific half blood turns 16 he or she will save the gods or destroy the gods. It could be Percy Jackson or Thalia. This thrilling story will get people hooked immediately!

This book thoroughly lives up to the quality of adventure and plot seen in the first two. It still has the savvy wit, and yet the characters are still visibly growing. I'm excitedly looking forward to the next book, because I absolutely have to know what happens next. :)

Although I was a little concerned at the new angle taken on this book, it was still a wonderful read. Percy is now growing into the role he was destined for and understands the struggle for power in the mortal and Olympian worlds. This series is a must read for Harry Potter fans! Adults will love this series as much as young adults!

I have purchased many items from Amazon and this is the first complaint. We bought this very expensive book set for our grandson as a birthday gift. The 13 books came in its own display box which was severly damaged in shipment. His Birthday was this weekend and had to give the gift before retuning it. For the price of books and not even free shipping they should have been packaged more securely.

A Series of Unfortunate Events, Books 1-13.......2007-07-24
I think the series of unfortunate event is really good because the author tell the story in a fun way, unlike other stories, this book is really exciting. When I finish a chapter, I want to keep reading on because I wanted to know the ending quickly. I really like the character - violet on this story, she is really smart and calm all the times. I think the ending is really cool because it did not exactly tell us what happen, it leave us space for us to think

Have you ever been in a foster home? Have you ever experienced deaths like your mom or dad? This story is about three kids, violet, klaws, and sunny. Violet is the one how likes to invent things. Klaus is the one who is hand with words. Sunny is just good at biting. Then their uncle who is after their fortune their parents left them. He is very mean and will mar4ry violet for her money. If she doesn't sine sunny dies. Will she sine or not read the book and find out.
I liked the book because it is entertaining and because you never know what will happen next. Also because it is full of mystery. Last because there is always an answer for your question. I hope you read the book "A series of unfortunate event book one."
Best Books Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-06-02
I have read a lot in my ten years of life,but out of all those books,A Series Of Unfortunate Events have been the best. Some of it is funny, some of it is scary, and some of it is a little weird. If you mix that all together, you get 13 wonderful books. I wouldn't reccomend it for kids under 10 though, because like I said it is scary, although it's not always as scary as Lemony Snicket says it is. Some of it is a little violent, actually. Other than that they are great books. Oh, and people have been complaining about how some of the pages are uneven. That is how they are supposed to be! The End still leaves you with some questions, but when you find out the answer to a question your like, "O MY GOSH! VFD!"! And some times Lemony Snicket does something very unexpected, like in the 6th book when Esme Squalor pushes them down the dark elevator shaft, the next 2 pages were nothing but black, which was very scary because then I was reading in the car at night with no light but my book light. There are 2 reasons I am going to stop now. Reason #1: That is pretty much all you need to know, and Reasom #2 My hands ache from typing for 20 minutes strait. BYE BYE AND HAPPY READING!! :)

Those who give 1 star are simply jealous.......2007-10-22
I've read many of the books which are obviously the inspiration for this work. It is formulaic and not very original as others have said. However, it is also a very absorbing book, an easy read which I can enjoy at the end of a working day even when I'm very tired, and it is simply a lot of fun to read. Many give this book 1 star and I think it's jealousy that a book with not much originality and a relatively simple storyline gets so much attention, but the success of the story is in the author's talents to capture some of the best elements from popular works and blend them together well. Yes, it is quite formulaic, but it is a formula that works and has worked for other books. I would give this book 3,5 stars as I've read better fantasy (but also much worse), but I round to 4 for the pleasure of reading it.
Wonderful Story for Kids.......2007-10-19
I have to admit that I was a bit reluctant to read this book due to all the bad reviews I've read about it. But by granddaughter wanted to read it, so we started plugging away at the story, and I'm actually glad we did. This is a wonderful story, and even though it follows the traditional epic characteristics, it still feels fresh and unique. It's definately worth a read. By the way, if you enjoy this genre, you should really check out T.H. Ferrell's new release The Pages of Tamenara. It's amazing!
Adults and Kids!.......2007-10-06
This is a marvelous book that my son and I read for one of his school projects. By the time we finished with the book, virtually the whole family was wrapped up in it. We watch as a small town boy finds himself the chosen one of a wonderful but very dangerous item. When this item turns into a "pet," things get really exciting... and Hazardous. Read as Eragons life is torn apart, and his very life is linked with a dragon. This book (an the next) are books that will have you reading well into the night with anticipation. The characters come alive in this wonderfully creative book. Best of all, if you have young writers in your home, this is especially a must read because if you check out the age on this writer, you will find he was quite young when he wrote it... proving our point that kids can do great things!
What utter drek........2007-10-03
I was excited to read this book, what with all of the praise I had heard for the 17-year-old that had written. How disappointed was I. This is, without an ounce of doubt, the most poorly written book I have ever regrettably paid money for. Shoddy characters, a splotchy story, and an over all plot that seems to pull from other fantasy writers that are much, much better than he is. Honestly, I cannot believe how many mistakes he made while writing his story. I just wanted to take a red pen and scribble out whole pieces of useless details.
If you want to read an adolescent fantasy novel, go read The Golden Compass, or a Wrinkle in Time. Don't even bother touching trash like this.

The lazy, hazy, crazy days of Summer, a great time to lounge in the shade, sip a cold lemonade, and lose yourself in a good book-Ahh, so many books, so little time. Yep, it reminds me of those carefree days of youth. And for the young reader, or the child in you, I very much recommend Eragon , a first novel, and first in a new fantasy trilogy by young author Christopher Paolini.
Eragon is a classic coming of age story, with fresh writing, and new perspective. Yes, there is magic and dragons, and a young hero coming to terms with responsibility and adulthood, and an evil, corrupt king to trust his growing powers. All classic elements of the fantasy genre, but the story and the characters drive the tale, giving solid footing to well-worn foundations.
Eragon is a solid first novel, and there's great promise in Christopher Paolini. He was only sixteen when he penned this novel. If you are a reader of fantasy, you'll see influence from masters of the genre-such as Tolkien, and Ann McCaffrey, and even elements of the Star Wars saga. But I like to think good story telling transcends the boundaries of genre, and this is a book with sound plot, good character development, and an epic tale to lose yourself. I found Eragon to be one of those rare books I never wanted to end, but luckily the next book in the trilogy, Eldest, has been released. So, you know what I'm reading next!

My children enjoyed me reading this story to them. The illustrations are beautiful. I had to explain some of the terms in a little more detail, but the story held their attention. It is nice when you find books that also actually introduce a "real" history of what it was like many years ago.
Another hit for Mary Higgins Clark!.......2007-05-22
Mary Higgins Clark is a wonderful storyteller and it is very evident with this children's book. Being an avid fan, I purchased the book to pass on to my granddaughter when she gets a little older. The illustrations are beautiful too. It will be a pleasure to introduce my granddaughter to Mary Higgins Clark, through her children's books!!

I have been a fan of MHC for years. I was delighted with her first children's book especially since it took place where I spent many of my summers over the years. Am passing this book on to younger readers.

I have be a fan of this author for years. This book surpassed all my expectations. What superb fiction for young readers! As always she uses her talent to spark the imagination without all the violence and gunplay of the modern world. I look forward to sharing the next with my children, too!
No younger than 4 year olds for this one.......2007-05-12
I read this book to my 4 year old granddaughter, who loves books and is beginning to read now. The book held her interest well, and I loved the illustrations! It was great to be reading her a book that had an actually story, instead of the standard children's books. She loved the story, and in fact, after we read it, she wanted to start playing out her own version of the story...."Grandma! Pretend that you find a belt buckle in the sand, and I appear as the ghost of the boy who was given it to." She really got into being on a ship back in the days of big sailing ships, and had so much fun with it!
I love Mary Higgins Clark's books for myself, and loved being able to read my granddaughter one of her books that was written for children. I hope she'll write more.
