Customer Reviews:
Impressive.......2007-09-17
This book really gives good ideas for team building exercises. Not only does it gives you ideas, but also advises on how to manage the activity with an end in mind to get the most out the the exercise.
Great for ice breakers and quick teambuilding.......2007-05-15
We found it easy to make these exercises fit into our industry, fairly well. We were looking for quick ways to get people to work together, from different departments and to respect the value in each other as well as understanding the big picture. Working individually can't happen in some of the exercises. Great job! Thanks for this book.
Excellent career resource.......2007-05-07
We use this in my college library. The teachers and students love it.
Superb resource book.......2007-05-03
I had this series of books before - loaned them out at work and never got them back (go figure!). Happy to have found them again here.
Quick Teambuilding Activities.......2007-03-11
Lots of quick, easy to adapt, team building activities to use at your next meeting. I have already used several with minor adaptations and much success! Gets the team energized and ready to move!

Fascinating, challenging, informative.......2004-05-22
If you are looking for quick fixes and simplistic solutions to conflict this book is not for you. The highly analytical approach illuminates the complexities of conflict management. Folger et al do an excellent job exploring the theoretical and psychological background necessary to evaluate the implicit and explicit causes and conditions involved in and effectively pursue solutions to disputes at mutiple levels. You wont find this book on the NY Times bestsellers list because it is a textbook. Graduate student and practiotioners can expect to draw upon it as an invaluable resource. Unlike most of those popular books this book doesn't just 'get you to yes', it actually has more weight and substance than most everything else out there. If you want a popular book on the topic of conflict that most non-professionals will find approachable read "Difficult Conversations." You will find it enjoyable and highly accessible.

Book Description
Behavior in Organizations, 8/e, by Shani and Lau, is a paperback text that takes a hands-on, experiential approach to organization behavior. The majority of the exercises, role-playing simulations, and cases were developed in and for management training workshops. The cases themselves represent different industries and organizations around the globe with diverse size, product, service, and cultures. Instructors appreciate the multiple interactive teaching methods for each teaching module. Experiential methods provide a powerful stimulus for learning, growth, and change by helping participants focus on their own behaviors and reactions as data. The text begins with structured, less personal exercises that are readily recognized as relevant to human effectiveness in organizational settings. Personal growth and self-understanding activities are introduced later in the text, after students have had enough experience to become more comfortable and ready for them.
Customer Reviews:
This book and Bible light up my life!.......2007-10-14
The Organizational Behavior textbook by Dr A B Shani, the Chair of Department of Management at the renowned Orfalea College of Business, was every thing his students asked for in its ever-improving 8th edition.
The eloquently written text combined with his charismatic teaching style and in-class exercises not only stimulate students' yearning for knowledge, but also push his students onto the next level in becoming responsible and thoughtful human beings.
One benefit of this textbook is its pages are tear-able. This feature allows his students to only bring the pages of the day to class while leaving the rest of the textbook at home.
All in all, this book is definitely a keeper, one that I would reference back when I am leading a Fortune 500 firm.
human resourse.......2007-07-17
the book isn't that great to read, especially for a organizational behavior class. it doesn't really go in depth about certain things.
I have been using the 5th ed for ten years!.......2006-04-24
I took a bachelors course on Organizational Behavior from Dr. Shani at Cal Poly in 1996. Since then, I have used the book as a resource in graduate studies and in my team and leadership development work. The experiential learning method is a fantastic method that works especially well with teams. I highly recommend this paperback. I would rate this edition higher but have yet to see the updates. If it is anything like the fifth edition, you will not be disappointed.

Book Description
Recipient of the George Terry Book Award sponsored by the Academy of Management "The incredible number of specific illustrations embedded in this text is a great asset. The book will be a good read for a potentially wide academic audience of professors and students (especially in psychology and business schools), anybody interested in contracts in the nonlegal sense, and for 'thinking managers' and practitioners. Psychological Contracts in Organizations will become a standard reference in the organizational sciences by 1997." --Richard Guzzo, University of Maryland, College Park This unique book examines the organizational, social, and psychological meaning of contracts, written and unwritten, in organizations. The author addresses a multitude of important topics, including contract making, interpretation of contracts, contracts that are emerging due to the turmoil and economic forces in the 1990s, contract violations, and strategies for changing contracts. In addition, this volume includes a thought-provoking discussion of how contracts are linked to an organization's strategy and its human resource practices. This outstanding volume concludes with an assessment of societal trends that point to large-scale changes in future employment contracts. Psychological Contracts in Organizations will capture the interest of advanced undergraduate and graduate students, scholars, managers, and researchers in the areas of organizational behavior, management, organizational psychology, human relations, industrial relations, law, and socioeconomics.

Book Description
Bridging Divided Worlds by Jackson W. Carroll and Wade Clark Roof— two experts in the field of contemporary religion— presents a comprehensive study of generational dynamics within congregations. Their groundbreaking work analyzes the crucial role the generations play in reshaping the American religious landscape. Throughout the book the authors examine current religious and spiritual trends and reveal how these changes can offer opportunities for enriching a congregation's faith and spiritual life.
Bridging Divided Worlds offers an insightful analysis of how congregations have historically adapted to change and reveals how various contemporary groups of congregants have dealt with change in recent years. For example, the authors profile three types of congregations: inherited congregations (practices are guided by the past); blended congregations (practices honor inherited tradition and are attentive to generational diversity); and generation-specific congregations (practices are tailored to the needs of a particular generation). With these profiles the authors provide commentary on the strengths and weaknesses of each. In addition to its wealth of information and commentary, this indispensable resource shows how congregations are discovering ways to bridge the gaps and connect the different worlds the generations inhabit to create stronger, richer, and more vibrant religious communities.
Customer Reviews:
Groundbreaking objective research--every pastor must read.......2002-04-11
I've read several books in the past couple of years about bridging the gap between the different generations, and I have to say that this one is the most useful. It's written from an objective point of view, and so gives powerful "snapshots" of different types of congregations and how they are dealing with the generation gaps---some successfully, some not.
Instead of reading about someone else's cookie-cutter "fix-it program," I got a lot of ideas and insights that might work in my own congregation. I highly recommend this book.
