Inspirational yet honest, and always rhythmically rollicking, Oh, the Places You'll Go! is a perfect sendoff for children, 1 to 100, entering any new phase of their lives. Kindergartners, graduate students, newlyweds, newly employeds--all will glean shiny pearls of wisdom about the big, bountiful future. The incomparable Dr. Seuss rejoices in the potential everyone has to fulfill their wildest dreams: "You'll be on your way up! / You'll be seeing great sights! / You'll join the high fliers / who soar to high heights." At the same time, he won't delude the starry-eyed upstart about the pitfalls of life: "You can get all hung up / in a prickle-ly perch. / And your gang will fly on. / You'll be left in a Lurch."
But fear not! Dr. Seuss, with his inimitable illustrations and exhilarating rhymes, is convinced ("98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed") that success is imminent. As long as you remember "to be dexterous and deft. And NEVER mix up your right foot with your left," things should work out. (All ages) --Emilie Coulter

The Genius of Dr. Seuss, not just for children.......2007-10-09
This is a beautiful and sensitive book.
I gave it to my "daughter" when she turned 18. I also put it in our school library.
It says exactly what people want to tell the kids they love when they go out into the world. You will have rough spots, but you can make it.
"Life Lessons For Dummies".......2007-09-20
The all-time BEST book by any author for any age. How true to life this classic story is. Could only be sequeled by "Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are"? A must for every household.
Not just for kids..........2007-08-26
You thought the good doctor only wrote books for kids...
You probably also thought that both the story lines in the Disney movies were for the children, too...
This is a great book for adults, students, and children. It's a wonderful gift for anyone taking a turn in their life.
So, if you have not read it recently, get a copy today. And if you have read it, get a copy for a friend who has changed jobs (or even lost a job), been promoted up the ladder, graduated from high school or college, or had another change in their life.
Remind them of "The Places They'll Go!"
Love Dr. Seuss.......2007-08-23
Dr. Seuss was my favorite author when I was a child...I now share him with others...I'm giving it as a gift to others whom reach a certain level in their business lives...

Customer Reviews:
Daily Inspiration.......2007-09-12
I bought this book along with another of Melody's. I think she is a very caring and understanding person and this book gives me daily readings to keep up my spirits and know that I am not alone and I can fix my own problems. I wasn't expecting a daily devotional type of book, but I am so glad now that I have it. They say one day at a time.. and right now that's what I'm giving.
Ok.......2007-08-03
Not what I expected it to be. More religious than I prefer and definately works with the AA platform which wasn't what I wanted.
Great inspiration - I love it.......2007-06-03
Melody Beattie has an amazing way of inspiring and clarifying. I have loved everything that I have read of hers....Definitely buy this!
Recovery for Anyone a Woman or Man.......2007-05-17
This book has an inspirational meditation for every day of the year. I have had mine for 6 years and I purchased 4 for some friends and they love it. It gives me things to think about for the health of my mind and soul on a daily basis. I love this daily meditation book.

Although this book was around when many of today's parents were youngsters, it has remained a steadfast must-have in every toddler's library. For starters, it's a great vocabulary guide that names the many things that go (and some that haven't a prayer of going, but are great fun to imagine anyway). It's also teeming with detail-rich scenes and characters on every page, teaching children the rewards of looking long and closely (such as finding the hidden "Goldbug" in each spread). Along the way it entertains with the silly and slapstick--everything from toothpaste and toothbrush cars to six fire department vehicles that show up to extinguish a ladybug-size fire in a miniature pink convertible. What's most amazing about this book, however, is its longevity. When you purchase it for your fledgling talker, you should consider it an investment. Even 11-, 12-, and 13-year-olds are known to pore over the book nostalgically, cooing at Lowly Worm and eagerly tracking Officer Flossie's book-long chase after that irresponsible, speedster driver in a cowboy hat. (Ages 2 and older) --Gail Hudson
Customer Reviews:
Great book for toddlers!.......2007-10-24
I recently checked this book out of the library for my two and a half year old son and he loves it. It is a wonderfully creative book he will be receiving for Christmas this year. He really enjoys searching for the goldbug and Dingo Dog on each page. My son loves all the Richard Scarry books we have read so far.
Eternal delight.......2007-10-08
You will be asked to read this every night. Your child will sleep with it, and bring it out to breakfast. The hardcover binding thankfully is up to repeated page-turning by a toddler, and the printing is vibrant and clear. I prefer "What Do People Do All Day" as it tells more stories, but who can tell a three-year-old!
Cars and Trucks and Things That Go.......2007-09-29
I have been sharing this wonderful book with so many new mothers of boys ever since my 32-year old enjoyed his book as a child. It is so colorful and eye-catching and it is such fun to find Goldbug. It is a wonderful way to share with your child and to help him use his mind.
Timeless!.......2007-09-28
My 37 year old daughter loved this book, especially searching for the Goldbugs. I bought a copy for her almost-three year old daughter and she loves it just as much. Makes me happy!
Great book for kids, and nostalgic for parents.......2007-09-19
My husband wanted to buy this book for our two year old daughter because he remembered it very well from his childhood. Even though there are many pages our daughter loves to flip through them and see the different types of automobiles and trucks, and she loves to find the little goldbug on each page. The book is a little larger than most of her other books, but she doesn't have any trouble turning the pages, especially if it is laying on the floor. As she gets older she should not have any trouble with it if it is in her lap. I think that this book will entertain her for years to come, as there are so many different things to look at on every page, plus the fun of finding goldbug.

Saved my life.......2006-10-08
This book is for anyone going through any type of recovery: codependency, addiction, divorce. Daily affirmations that tell us that yes we are important and we are not crazy!
More Excellent Work.......2006-08-17
I don't think we as human beings actually recognize the power of daily reading, meditation, and reflecting. Practicing these powerful principles allows us to remain mindful of the moment and reflect upon the deeper question in our lives. To devote ourself to a daily meditation and to journal on these quiet times is priceless and will certainly aid in the evolution of our soul. For me this practice has allowed an awakening to take place and opens my life up to all the opportunities that are available in this universe. Please give this practice a try! This book will help you in your journey of living and cultivating an active consciousness in your daily life.

More Language of Letting Go, Equally good as the first!.......2006-03-11
This is another fine example of the inner wisdom of Melody Beattie. Her books have helped me TREMENDOUSLY with my life, though I'm not a 12 stepper. It applies to life for all of us!
Wonderful Read to Follow "Language of Letting Go' - A Must!.......2004-03-28
After working a 12 step for 9 months, read Language of Letting Go. Brought me in touch w/my feelings. Then my spouse went into
AA. "More Language of Letting Go" continued me on my path to
getting in touch w/my feelings. There's no index, but you
will find it comical how you do read the book. I highly
recommend Beattie's "Journey to the Heart" as a follow-up to
this one!
By reading these 3 books, I know more what I want and can name
the things I want. Before I couldn't.
Beattie pegs it beautifully, when no one else can.
Can't let go of this book.......2003-01-17
This is a WONDERFUL daily reading! I read it through last year and am starting over this year. There are some passages that just jump out and smack you in the head because they relate to what you are going throught at the exact time you read it.

A charming gift for expectant parents, Oh Baby, the Places You'll Go is designed to be an in utero introduction to the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. Adapted from his works, and touching on them all from Horton to Who-ville, author Tish Rabe has maintained Seuss's style perfectly. Your baby is the unnamed star of the book, and reading directly to your tummy becomes easy with lines like "the words I am saying you hear in your heart, and know that I wish you the very best start." Filled with the good doctor's whimsical illustrations, you'll find all your favorite characters, with a short rhyme that mentions each one--and just enough direct quotations to get those infants stimulated when you read Seuss's whole books to them at a later date. --Jill Lightner
Book Description
Artfully extracted and adapted almost entirely from Ted Geisel's work, this is a must for all expectant parents - and introduction to the wonderful world of Dr. Suess for their adorable baby-to-be. Exciting new discoveries are being made all the time about how much learning takes place while a baby is still in its mother's womb, and Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go! makes the perfect welcome! It's never too early to start them on a rich and healthy regimen of good ol' Dr. Seuss.

Oh Baby.......2007-08-23
Great DR. Seuss book but a very small copy. Arrived quickly and it perfect shape but was dissappointed in the size of book.
Great gift for expecting parents!.......2007-08-09
We read this book to our baby in the womb, and she would kick at certain passages every time.
Oh baby, Oh baby - Great book for my little miracle.......2007-06-30
As a Dr. Seus fan, my desire is to share my love of literature with my little guy. While his daddy was reading to him, in utero of course, he was kicking away and seemed to truly enjoy his Dr. Seus experince. I will continue to read this book to my son throughout my pregnancy and once he arrives.
Cute!!!.......2007-06-19
I do not think this book is meant to be educational it is meant to be fun to read to BABY. I think any expecting parent who has an open mind and wants something fun to read this is the book! I am very happy I purchased this book. I would recommend this book to anyone expecting.
Wonderful!.......2007-05-26
What a fantastic idea! I really felt a connection while reading this to my baby girl who is due this September. The book is wonderfully written. As you read to your baby growing inside you, you feel like you're really helping to shape her attitude coming into the world! I can't say enough. Be sure to buy Oh, the Places You'll Go! (Classic Seuss) along with it for when the baby is here and for later when they start reading.

A Smidgeon of Pigeon by Mo Willems In Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, the pigeon dreamed of driving the bus. In this board book, readers will see him emoting at the thought of driving a plane, a train, a car, and more, all in his deliriously over-the-top style.

Sadly Disappointed.......2007-10-21
My daughter is almost 3 & we already had 2 books by Mo Willems she LOVES- Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late & Edwina, the Dinosaur That Didn't Know She Was Extinct & I thought I couldn't go wrong. I did. I knew it was a board book & expected it to be short, but geez. Not much there at all. I still love Mo Willems' books & highly recommend the 2 above as well as Leonardo Was a Terrible Monster (which I ordered with this one). Skip it, you could do a lot better with another Willems title.
Got to love the Pigeon!.......2007-07-03
Totally love this book. My son gets such a kick out of the Pigeon. Great story to share with younger children!
My second time buying this book.......2007-06-27
My daughter and I love the pigeon book collection. This one is just as entertaining as the others, but also, for younger kids, educational on "things that go". We had owned this book, but bought it again for a friend. Gotta love that pigeon!!
Great book.......2007-02-15
My son really enjoys this book. He is a bit young to "get it" but he smiles when I read it to him.
Board books are supposed to be for babies.......2007-01-12
I am a fan of the larger Pigeon books, so I bought this one for my 18 month old who loves books. This was a disappointment as the play on words at the end makes little sense to a baby. This is a waste of money. The longer books are much more enjoyable.

Life lessons? Romance? Literary instruction? Go, Dog. Go! offers all this and more, wrapped up in one simply worded, warmly hued package. Using single-syllable words in rhythmic repetition, and introducing colors and prepositions, this Seuss-styled classic has been an early favorite of children since 1961. For those looking for deeper meaning in a beginning reader book, here you'll find nothing less than a microcosm of life. Green dogs, yellow dogs, big dogs, little dogs. Dogs who prefer cars, dogs who favor skis. All represent the diversity a child will find in the world. And the slow-to-bud romance between the cheerfully oblivious yellow dog and the mincing pink poodle explains more succinctly than most self-help books what goes on in many grown-up relationships. Nonetheless, Eastman takes the concept of "primary" to heart, with his simple silly phrases and solidly colored illustrations. Not only will this book inspire peals of laughter in kids, it will also help them make the magical connection between those mysterious black squiggles on the page, and the words they hear and speak. (Ages 4 to 8)

for kids from 1-100, a timeless classic.......2007-10-18
this was one of my favorite books as a child, and when i picked it up after 35 years, i remembered and recognized the illustrations and scenes as if i had read it yesterday. this is a pleasure to read with its simple verse-like writing, its wonderful drawings, its bright colors, and its loveable characters. i couldn't reocmmend a book more highly, especially good for young dog lovers, like our son. don't bother with the board book version, which takes down 76 pages to about 6. this original is easy to read and a joy.
Years of Doggie Fun.......2007-10-08
Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby
This is a short, terrific book that neither you nor your child will tire of reading. Toddlers love the idea of dogs driving cars, and beginning readers enjoy the satisfaction of reading the story without help. This makes the book appropriate for a wide age range. The ending is charming and will put a smile on your face as well as your child's.
Shelley's Dad.......2007-09-16
This is an excellent childrens' books. The pictures keep the child interested while the repetition helps them as they learn to talk and read. I like all of the P.D. Eastman books that I have read.
So much fun!.......2007-07-18
This is such a fun read! The illustrations are great. This is one of my son's favorite books. It teaches children colors and opposites. Out of the blue he will say to me, "Do you like my hat?" Then we play the hat game for awhile! I highly recommend this book.
Go go go go GOOOO! (my daughter's words).......2007-07-08
I started showing this book to my daughter when she was 16 months old.
It is her absolute favorite (and she has about 30 books). She throws the book at me and shoves it in my face at least 4x per day.
She loves pointing to all the dogs while I tell her the color of each.
She is obsessed with bikes, so the dogs riding bikes really get her excited. She is now almost 18 months old, and she now understands that the sun is hot, and can say the word "hat, car, stop, and tree" from the repeated readings of the book.
There are so many things that this book teaches...colors, stop and go, up/over/under/in/out/around, day/night.....It was my absolute favorite beginner book as a small child too, and I am 40 now.

The year is 1963, and self-important Byron Watson is the bane of his younger brother Kenny's existence. Constantly in trouble for one thing or another, from straightening his hair into a "conk" to lighting fires to freezing his lips to the mirror of the new family car, Byron finally pushes his family too far. Before this "official juvenile delinquent" can cut school or steal change one more time, Momma and Dad finally make good on their threat to send him to the deep south to spend the summer with his tiny, strict grandmother. Soon the whole family is packed up, ready to make the drive from Flint, Michigan, straight into one of the most chilling moments in America's history: the burning of the Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church with four little girls inside.
Christopher Paul Curtis's alternately hilarious and deeply moving novel, winner of the Newbery Honor and the Coretta Scott King Honor, blends the fictional account of an African American family with the factual events of the violent summer of 1963. Fourth grader Kenny is an innocent and sincere narrator; his ingenuousness lends authenticity to the story and invites readers of all ages into his world, even as it changes before his eyes. Curtis is also the acclaimed author of Bud, Not Buddy, winner of the Newbery Medal. (Ages 9 to 12) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
A wonderful middle-grade novel narrated by Kenny, 9, about his middle-class black family, the Weird Watsons of Flint, Michigan. When Kenny's 13-year-old brother, Byron, gets to be too much trouble, they head South to Birmingham to visit Grandma, the one person who can shape him up. And they happen to be in Birmingham when Grandma's church is blown up.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful story, may be controversial for younger readers.......2007-09-27
This book tells a wonderful tale of an African-American family in the early 60s. Most of the book just reveals each family members unique personality and shows that this family really loves each other. Not wanting to spoil the ending, but hoping to warn parents, the book, near the very end, brings up important ideas about racial prejudices through the use of very violent, almost graphic descriptions of tragic events in our history. The author does a marvelous job of really making the reader fall in love with the Watsons family, so that by the time the main event hits at the end, the reader really understands the cruelty of racial prejudice. I really thought the book was great and that it the topic is something people need to learn about and understand. However, I would caution that this book might be too frightening and violent for younger children. I wouldn't recommend it until maybe the middle school level.
Sweetly funny, sorely real.......2007-09-02
I thoroughly enjoyed the family tale of the Watsons heading out to straighten out that "juvenile delinquent" brother of Kenny's as well as the aftermath of those appalling events in Birmingham at the time. The humor of the story served the shocking tragedy well, placing these horrific acts within the context of a family just living life and dealing with everyday issues. Kenny's reactions were honest and Byron proved himself to be a true big brother. I will definitely be recommending this book to some of my kids!
Wonderful literature and teaching tool!.......2007-06-27
The Watson's Go to Birmingham, by Christopher Paul Curtis is an amazing book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I used it in my seventh grade Language Arts classes and they begged me to "just go on to the next chapter". It is a book that will capture the attention of all age groups!
The book is about an African American family who live in Flint, Michigan. Mom, Dad, Kenny (narrarator of the book), Byron, and Joey are a typical family who share triumphs, love, and tragedy. Mom decides she wants to return to her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama to visit grandma. The Watson's travel in 1963, a trying time for many African Americans. While in Birmingham, something tragic occurs that will bring the family closer than ever.
I was very impressed with this book. This book could be used in Language Arts classes or in Social Studies classes. There are many relevant issues that could be discussed in either course. It is also a book that anyone would enjoy reading, as a class assignment or just during leisure. I plan to continue teaching this book as long as I am a teacher and I'm sure, years down the road, students will still enjoy this novel.
Tragic History.......2007-06-05
The Watson family, African-Americans living in the 1960s, live a pretty normal life, as narrated by ten-year-old Kenny. They live in Michigan, although that gets too cold in the wintertime for Kenny's mom's taste. Kenny's dad is something of a clown, always doing things to make his wife and children laugh. Kenny himself is a smart kid who likes to read but doesn't have many friends. His older brother Byron picks on him and is something of a punk, but since he has a reputation for being tough, not many other kids pick on Kenny. Kenny also has a little sister, Joey, who is five.
This story chronicles a year in the lives of the Watson family. Kenny generally keeps a cool head about things, even though he is constantly a witness to his brother getting into trouble and he is ofen a victim of his brother's punches. But Kenny's parents are getting tired of Byron's behavior, and they have decided to do something about it. That summer they get their old car all cleaned up and the five of them pile in for a trip to Alabama, where Kenny's grandmother lives. She is said to be quite a disciplinarian, and Kenny's parents have threatened to leave Byron there for the entire summer and, if necessary, the entire next year if he doesn't straighten up.
While in Alabama, though, something awful happens that throws Kenny into a state of shock, which he can't quite shake off even when they are all safe at home back in Michigan. Will Kenny be able to recover from what he witnessed in Alabama?
I liked the fact that Kenny narrated; he told the story of his family in a way that made them interesting to the reader. I also liked how Kenny's parents treated their children; they spent a lot of time joking around with the kids, but when they did something wrong the parents took it seriously.
I didn't like that the big event that the story had been building toward happened right at the end of the story. I thought that the family would have had more contact with the events going on in Alabama, and the story would include more history of what was going on at this time in the South.
The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963.......2007-06-04
The Watsons are a family that loves each other, but always have fights and other problems. Kenny, the 10 year old, tells the story. He is a cool kid and kind. His little sister Joetta is also a cool kid. Byron is their brother. He gets into fights and bullies people and tells lies.
The family decides to take Byron to go stay with his grandma in Birmingham because he would not stop playing with matches. Momma was afraid he would burn the house down. That was a trip that changed the whole family.
