Prayer without guilt.......2007-08-15
I know the title might not sound that juicy. Prayer is not that exciting. Wrong! Read this book if you want to wash away all the garbage you believe about not praying good enough or correctly. Joyce encourages us to identify the originator of all those thoughts and he lives down below. An encouragment to read.
Power of Prayer a keeper.......2007-08-07
I am a huge Joyce Meyer fan. This is one of her best efforts. Practical and scripture based- with her signature humor thrown in for easy reading.
Just as the title says: SIMPLE PRAYER!.......2007-07-25
I've been on a quest to spend more time in fellowship with God throughout the day, and have my prayers be more meaningful and less child-like (i.e. "Why God???" or "Gimmie, gimmie please!!"). This book has pointed me in the right direction. Joyce talks about how prayer is not only when you're down on your knees, crying out to God; but it's also simple, heartfelt, one-on-one CONVERSATION with God. And prayer doesn't have to be just one set time each day, but God wants us to talk to Him throughout our day. Joyce also explains how each individual is to be led by the Holy Spirit about whom and what to pray for, and we don't have to feel condemned or guilt if we don't pray about everything under the sun. The Holy Spirit will also lead us in how to pray for ourselves, so that we are not focusing mostly on things; but rather, our prayers will primarily focus on praising and worshiping God for who He is and what He's done for us, and on our becoming more like Him and living according to His will for our lives. I think it's a great book for all Christians, regardless of where you are in your walk with the Lord.
Very Insightful!!.......2007-07-12
I was sensing God wanted me to learn more about prayer so I prayed He lead me to the information He wanted me to read. Shortly after this some friends gave my wife and me this book for an anniversary gift. I must say, it was GREAT!!! I've never been taught to read outside of dinner grace and bedtime prayers. I knew prayer needed to be personal and this book helped me to apply the things need for personal prayer and the things in my life that could hinder my prayer. I would recommend it to anyone who is starting out and wanting to step deeper than the "Now I lay me, down to sleep" and "Come Lord Jesus, be our guest" type prayers.
BTW-Interestingly enough, my pastor started a summer series teaching about prayer. God came through for me again.
"Simple" +"Prayer" = "Breakthrough".......2007-06-14
For the longest time, I've struggled with prayer.
Then I got hold of this book
I thought I had to assume the position (on my knees, eyes closed)
I found standing at the bus stop, leaning over the copier or my child's bathtime works fine
I thought I needed eloquent, prayer-worthy verses to be heard
I found my everyday words get the message across to my Father
I thought I needed to finetune my pitch before knocking on the Boss's door
I found Someone who listens to everything I say- what I whine about, sob over- without judgement
I thought that I needed to schedule a set block of time
I found 5 second prayers work but I still to schedule a prayer date with my Friend- that works
I thought I repeat my personal requests over and over in case the first never made it passed my ceiling
I found I'm heard the first time and now I can spend the extra time praying for others who need it more than I
I'm only a few chapters into the book
... excited about what else I'll learn about my Friend

A great guide for accountable talk!.......2007-07-23
I'm an elementary teacher who has seen firsthand the power of getting kids to talk about their reading and thinking. This book shows you how to do just that! It was affirming for me to see that what I have been doing in the classroom was the right thing to do. This book is a great guide to harnessing the power of accountable talk for truly powerful instruction. I highly recommend it.

Are you willing to combat the Enemy Within?.......2007-05-15
Friends, if you are like me, you have looked at your Christian walk in this sex-saturated, me-first, convenience-oriented, I'm-OK-You're-OK world and wondered why you don't seem to have the faith or the purity of heart possessed by Paul or Timothy, Peter, James, or the other martyrs. If you're like me, you've grown content to have a less than obedient, less than satisfying, less than life-changing walk with Christ. And maybe at some point you've thought, "I am sick of sin and I want to know Christ better!" only to slip quietly back into your self-indulgent lifestyle. Worst of all, perhaps you've expected the Holy Spirit to sanctify you passively, so that you don't have to be involved or get your hands dirty.
If so, then this book may be the springboard for a changed life. Learn what sin is--how detestable it is to God, how powerful it is in each of us, how it quietly appeals to us and blinds us to what God really has intended for His children, and then discover tools you can use to change.
I know that my walk will not be the same after reading this book and doing the exercises. It is so easy to read and makes so much sense; I can't believe I was this blind to what sin really is. But now I see.
Kill Sin!.......2007-03-19
That's what we thought we should have printed on our next bumper stickers (those of us who have them) after several of us in our congregation read this book recently. Though the work will be hard, the inspiration that Lundgaard gives from Scripture makes you truly want to pursue with the Spirit the righteousness of God. This book, which is very accessible but with much depth, does not condemn, but it sure does challenge!
A soon to be Classic.......2005-10-14
This book has to be one of the most outstanding books I have read in a long time. What a clear and well ilustrated book. I have used it's contents in my messages, in my counseling sessions and have given it as a reading assignment to my students. It has the makings of a classic.

Wow - Great Book!!.......2005-09-16
I loved this book!!! I have been very frustrated and confused lately watching the behavior of Christians around me. This books helps explains some of what is going on. Instead of just blaming the devil and the world for our sin, he talks about another element...that battle we all have with the flesh.
I really appreciated his way of handling this battle..this is where our focus need to be for all our struggles. This is one of the best books I've read (besides "The Book") for the Christian walk.
A Good Book on Sin--Not Growth. .......2005-05-09
Anyone seeking to understand the basics of Puritan theology via John Owen on the subject of sanctification (growth in Christ) will love this book. It is easy to read, clearly written, and easy to apply. Lundgaard has thoughtfully given us a volume on the difficulty of sin in a believer's life that should be understood with the utmost precision.
However, the book is repetitive and at times overbearing. The theme that kept reoccurring was that believers, at their core have an indubitable force living in them that hates God. There is little to no mention of the Holy Spirit except for the obvious doctrine of regeneration that leads us to accept the truth of the gospel.
This is, no doubt, a great book if you want to learn about sin. However, you will be left with the picture that true godliness is to be hopelessly left in the quagmire of an inner, unending war with the flesh. If you are looking for hope in defeating sin, this book is not the best, but it will give you good knowledge of what you are up against.

Speaking God's Word over your situation.......2006-01-19
Great book, Joyce! It confirmed what I've been learning over the past several years. I now speak God's Word over my situation. If I feel blue, for instance, I start praising Him and quoting scriptures pertinent to the situation, i.e. "Beloved, I wish above all things that you Prosper and Be in Health!"
Thanks for confirming and affirming and teaching multitudes how to talk your way to winning.
Great Book!!!.......2006-01-06
"One of the areas in which I have had to learn obedience to the Lord, is in talking, or more precisely when to stop talking."
Joyce Meyer has more to say on all topics and certainly in this book, we learn more of her secrets to a better life through God and His word. It has been a very unique and helpful teaching for me, as it shows the ways we can rid ourselves of the smallest hurt to the largest worry. Mrs. Meyer gives us insights into dealing with our securities, worry, stress, loneliness, and other negative causes where we can turn ourselves through Christ to confident and positive Christians, equipped for the fight.
Thank you Mrs. Meyer, you are indeed a gem. There are so many people, far more than you know who love reading and adhering to your written word. Bless you always.

If you're a baby Christian (as I am), this is a must book for you. "Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them." Isaiah 42:9 Insecure, Alone, Depressed, Worried, Stressed, Discouraged, Afraid? Hear what God has to say about it all. Joyce writes from the heart and explains it simply to those that are ready to hear.

Book Description
Ann Coulter. Laura Ingraham. Nancy Grace. Bill O'Reilly. Sean Hannity. Pat Robertson.
Their faces and voices are ubiquitous: the shrill shrieks and strident bellowings that drown out all debate and set every listener on edge, using God’s and Jesus’s names to justify oppression and ignorance, and spread falsehoods as if they were facts. They occupy the bully pulpit of the new American hate culture: the television and radio programs watched and heard by millions of people that shape the opinions and set the agendas of churches, school boards, political action groups, and ultimately those we have elected to represent all of us.
Gerry Spence takes dead aim at the media demagogues who wield their power with such virulent effect. Using the full force of his own rhetorical skill—developed through decades as a legendary defense attorney—Spence exposes the people behind the words, and carves their arguments with the rough edge of his tongue. Anyone who has had it up to here will cheer to see these bullies met and conquered on their own turf.

wtf?.......2007-07-04
I made it to page 13, and even that was hard to do. I guess I'll just skim thru some of the chapters.
What bugs me is its sloppy argumentation and inexplicable commentary. Here is an example. In a paragraph on page 13, he writes and comments on something someone said, "'...There are people on this earth who should never be allowed to give birth.' This sounds like eugenics, the discredited science of human improvement by better breeding, a favorite of the Nazis". How is this eugenics? It would be if the quote was part of a broader statement that some classes of people should not have kids. But, Spence does not show this. Then in the next paragraphs, commenting on a statement by N. Grace to the above, Spence asks, "To hate the unborn?". Now what does any of what was being discussed have anything to do with hating the unborn? In fact, to me it sounds like the exact opposite, doesn't it? If you don't want kids being born and raised in neglect and danger, you ARE loving the unborn.
Will the book get any better? It would be bad if it did not. Balancing commentary is needed to the spew of the hate mongers who rely on fake intellectualism and the pseudo-spiritual lip service of the far right.
A MUST READ FOR ALL AMERICANS.......2007-05-29
Gerry Spence has done a valuable public service in writing this book about the emerging hate culture that has this great nation on a path to doom. All Americans could benefit from his history lessons about the very striking similiarity of the "war on terror" and the propaganda used in Nazi Germany in the wake of the Reichstag fire. Additionally, most Americans even today do not know that the basis for the invasion of Iraq was outlined in the Project for New American American Century goals and objectives for the use of war to promote a concept of global domination.
Gerry Spence has done an effective job in teaching us that we must learn from history or we are doomed to repeat its failures.
Gerry Spencer will be regarded as a prophet when the conservative hate culure has finally achieved its goal and the United States is nothing more than a theocracy. The Fourth Reich is indeed emerging in America today and Gerry Spence has given us the warning that we need to turn off the television and educate ourselves on the facts.
How to Argue and Win Every Time . . ........2007-05-19
That's another of Gerry Spence's books, and anyone who reads "Bloodthirsty Bitches . . ." will see why he does. This book is on the money - irrefutable. Hate sells, and the public discourse has reached its nadir. We're in a lot of trouble.
Gerry Spence is one of the few who gets it Right about what's wrong in America........2007-05-07
After having read this book, I'm glad we have lawyers in this country as they truly are the gatekeepers of freedom in this country. I've read his book and looked at the data and the reasonings\logics. He makes a very compelling case for what's wrong with the fascist conversatives thinking and actions. I don't need to add futher to what other reviewers have been saying. The conservatives and crippled politicians worships their god; the corporate god.
This book did mentioned that some people in America believes that America is already a fascist state. I tend to agree; as the violent propaganda against the innocents and stripping of liberty(from reporters and certain minorities) have already occurred. Read the book and think and find out for yourself.

Book Description
During the latter half of the 1980s and throughout the 1990s, television talk shows, infotainment news, and screaming supermarket headlines became ubiquitous in America as the “tabloidization” of the nation’s media took hold. In Tabloid Culture Kevin Glynn draws on diverse theoretical sources and an unprecedented range of electronic and print media in order to analyze important aspects and key debates that have emerged around this phenomenon.
Glynn begins by situating these media shifts within the context of Reaganism, which gave rise to distinctive ideological currents in society and led the socially and economically disenfranchised to access new forms of information via the exploding television industry. He then tackles specific daytime talk shows and tabloid newscasts such as Jerry Springer and A Current Affair, reality-TV programs such as Cops and America’s Most Wanted, and two different supermarket tabloids’ coverage of the O.J. Simpson case. Tabloid Culture is the first book to treat these diverse yet related media forms and events in tandem. Rejecting the elitist dismissal of sensationalist media, Glynn instead traces the cultural currents and countercurrents running through their forms and products. Locating both reactionary and oppositional meanings in these texts, he demonstrates how these particular media genres draw on and contribute to important cultural struggles over the meanings of race, sexuality, gender, class, “normality,” “truth,” and “reality.” The study ends by discussing how the growing use of the Internet provides an entirely new realm in which such material can circulate, distort, inform, and flourish.
This innovative and provocative study of contemporary mainstream media culture in the United States will be valuable to those interested in both print and television media, the cultural-political influence of the Reagan era, and American culture in general.
Customer Reviews:
A Very Illuminating Examination of What Others Fear To Touch.......2005-12-03
Please do not listen to the other review of this book: it is clearly written by someone who hasn't read Glynn's carefully argued, very interesting examination of "trash" television. "John Q. Public," as he calls himself in the review, seems to make it sound so simple -- networks play things because they get ratings. But what Glynn answers in a way that all of John Q's love for PBS can't is WHY they get ratings. The answer to this question has so often been astoundingly shortsighted and downright insulting: "People watch trash TV because they're stupid, don't know any better, and never will" or something as asinine and simplistic as that.
But Glynn digs into the populist in a very interesting way, and what he finds is that these shows frequently validate everyday experiences and knowledge of everyday, working class viewers in ways that many instances of "high culture" on television don't. Glynn's point is not at all about aesthetics or artistic value (as John Q. Public assumes, having not read the book, that it is), as he largely leaves this question for the reader to answer: his point is about not just disregarding all these programs AND all their viewers because one has made such artistic judgements. In "trash" TV, Glynn finds many democratic tendencies.
At times, Glynn can overdo it, and at other times, his enthusiasm to defend overlooks, or rushes through, disturbing political content of the shows (such as inherent racism or sexism), but most of the time he is remarkably careful to balance such tensions.
This is an academic text, and so may not be ideal for everyone, though it is reasonably accessible. So, if you want to go beyond complaining that such television shouldn't exist, and if you're actually interested in why it does, and why so many people turn to it, I highly recommend this book. I share the reviewer "John Q Public's" regard for PBS, though I feel it has turned its back on many Americans, and on the real John Q Publics, so to speak. Glynn's book looks at what those John Qs are watching and starts to ask the reasons why. (For more on PBS and "the masses," though, I'd highly recommend Laurie Ouellette's *Viewers Like You?*)

ONE OF LOUISE HAY'S BEST CD'S EVER! IT WORKS FOR ME!.......2007-05-06
Since 1988, I have listened to Louise Hay and bought her books. This particular CD is one of Louise Hay's best work ever! This is a LIVE CD with 7 tracks. In this lectures, Louise gives a true story of her past when years ago, she found out that she had cancer. She was determined to get well and realized that negative thoughts and negative words can really damage your health. She then changed her negative thinking to positive thoughts and she totally recovered and her whole life changed for the better. She later went on to teach others: "Change your thoughts, change your life!" She has helped so many and she has certainly helped me! The sound quality is excellent and the message truly inspired me to think about:
1) Words that I think (how thoughts in my create my future).
2) Words that I say (how words I say affect me, my relationships, and everthing that affects me).
This CD I will listen to often because it has caused me to realize just how powerful thoughts and words are! I highly recommend this to anyone in need of making a positive change to your life! It really works!

Book Description
In this extraordinary book, Dr. Larry Crabb introduces a revolutionary way for Christians to experience God. "Soul talk" happens when two Christians talk to each other in a way that results in their passion for God being stirred, ignited, and released.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book, Unreliable Seller.......2007-06-08
Larry Crabb has wonderful insight into humans and their spiritual needs and tendencies, and writes in an easy-to-understand style. [NOTE: I ordered this from an Amazon marketplace seller who never bothered, after 6 wks., to fill the order. Amazon refunded my money, and I purchased the book elsewhere so I wouldn't have to wait any longer.]
practical "what to think and say" but much more.......2005-08-08
It seems that the Larry Crabb of the last few years has been on a new mission: to teach Christians a way of living that is more Real than what we've been doing. The "New Way", "the dance" that leads us to try to find God before we try to make life "work."
In SoulTalk, Dr. Crabb spends time addressing the way we can build this into our communities: how to speak to each other in a way that builds our energy towards seeking God, and helps us discover our natural tendency to seek just about anything else. He insists that words are powerful to move the heart, and that spirit-led conversation - as difficult as it can be - is powered by someone other than ourselves, deepening friendships and driving spiritual formation.
Although he insists that formulas are deadly, Larry Crabb lays out an ordered approach to learning SoulTalk:
1. Think Beneath
2. Think Vision
3. Think Passion
4. Think Story
5. Think Movement
This is perhaps where the book gets bogged down - the trendy labels are similar in connotation, and can become confusing. At times, it feels Dr. Crabb is being repetitive, taking two chapters to lay out what could have been described in one. But the concepts themselves are rewarding, and worth the effort to absorb.
SoulTalk is probably a good parallel to "Shattered Dreams" also by Larry Crabb, or even Waking the Dead by John Eldridge - seemingly a similarly rooted call to the church to live more actively by the Spirit of God than by formula.
Overall: highly recommended. This is one that you'll take notes on, re-read chapters, and will feel urges to forcibly pass on to your friends and small groupies.
Speaking the Language of the Soul.......2005-03-04
"SoulTalk" continues a focus in Crabb's writings since "Encouragement: The Key to Caring." His passion for empowering Christians to be spiritual friends has not wavered over the past two decades.
What has developed is Crabb's depth of reliance upon the Spirit and the Scriptures. "Encouragement" was a helpful "why" and "how to" book about speaking life words to one another. "SoulTalk" is a probing examination of how our intimate communion with God can and should lead to impacting connection with our brothers and sisters.
"SoulTalk" builds upon the foundation of the New Covenant--the believer's new heart. This is a refreshing focus given how much of modern Christian counseling seems to counsel Christians as if they were still non-Christians with an old heart.
Early on, Crabb presents a five stage model of soul talk and contrasts each stage with self talk. This practical beginning could lead one to think that they will be taught specific relational competencies and how to develop them. However, this is simply not Crabb's "style." His heart is so passionate for God, and his mind so deep, that he is much better at conceptualization than step-by-step implementation.
If you want to think deeply about talking with God so you can talk to others about God, then "SoulTalk" is for you. Few today are wrestling as grippingly as Crabb with the dynamics of inner spiritual formation.
If you want to know how to "get from here to there," you may be a tad disappointed. Reading Crabb reminds me of reading other great "minds" and "hearts" from Church history, like Martin Luther and St. Teresa. Their level of faith stands so far beyond where most people live day by day, that you know they have something powerful to share, but you feel as if it sometimes slips away from your fingertips.
Read Crabb to be motivated, to be exhorted, to be encouraged. Read Crabb to think deeply about deep issues of the soul.
Reviewer: Dr. Bob Kellemen, author of "Soul Physicians: A Theology of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction" and "Spiritual Friends: A Methodology of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction."
What the Church is Missing..........2005-01-26
In his latest book Dr. Crabb continues his exploration and pilgrmimmage into what should make the body of Christ different, both individually and corporately, from the rest of the world. How do we interact with others, in a meaningful way, in a supernatural way, in a way that genuinely helps them walk with God? Not through just encouragement, not through just rules, but through a dance with the Spirit, as he likes to put it, that makes us humble and dependent and powerful, all at the same time. Excellent mind-stretching material to make you think and reflect on how to better enter people's lives in a rich and God-soaked way.
A Book I Wish I Had Written.......2003-11-02
I wondered how Crabb would continue his honest look at contemporary Christianity. This book echoes a million things I have felt over the last five years of my life. While I found the writing to be somewhat repetitive, what was said was well worth it. I would like to say that this is the most important book to come out of the current glut of contemporary Christian literature. I hope this book finds its way into the hands of many.
