A Godesend.......2007-10-22
Steve Murray's Reiki VOL 1,2,3 and Reiki False Beliefs and Attunement DVD's are nothing short of a miracle. They have helped me in my life and personal endeavors - more than I can say. I really wanted to become a Reiki Master and did not have the money to do so. Steve's products have made it possible for me to become one. His attunement DVD's really work and his Healing attunement DVD is a must buy. It really works. I wholeheartedly reccommend these books and DVD's to anyone wanting to heal themselves or anyone wanting to become a Reiki healer. His Reiki books are full of information that gives you the confidence to become a Reiki healer and help others to heal through Reiki. I am so grateful to Steve Murray for making Reiki available to anyone who is seeking this path of healing and career.
A Valuable Textbook.......2007-10-05
This book was a quick read, since there are many full page illustrations. I have revisited the book often, and consider it a valuable resource for years to come.
I admit to being skeptical when I purchased Steve Murray's products: How could a Reiki Master justify passing the secret Reiki symbols on to the general public? But I feel that we live in different times now. To coin a phrase by Caroline Myss, there are now many "Mystics without monasteries." I am grateful that Steve has made attaining higher levels of Reiki practice available to those who cannot afford to go the traditional route.
Wonderful.......2007-09-18
Here's my story. I didn't want to get any of his books or dvds. I read some of the reviews from other Master's and they talked badly about his teachings and how an attunement could not be done by watching a crystal on dvd. But, later i remembered having a dream when i was younger of watching myself staring at a crystal on tv. I thought it was freaky and didn't know what it meant, but then it all came together. So i started off with his first reiki book, the psychic attunement, and the reiki level one attunement. I had better results than i thought i was going to get. I have a natural gift for healing and i've been using it un-trained my whole life. His books and dvds helped me out a lot. This is the real thing and if you are new and looking to try reiki, i highly recommend it. I don't write reviews and Steve Murray is the first review i've ever written on. This is because i want people to know that this is real and powerful. The DVD's are powerful and the books explain it all and enforce all that is Imparted to you. By the way, I am a Christian and you should know that Reiki has no religion. I recommend all the DVD attunements, and i've read the first 3 Reiki volume set and the false beliefs. I will be getting more of his books and teaching. But i hope that this review and his works help you like it's helped me in my entire life and the people around me. I've healed things from headaches and back pains, to two different friends that were in the hospital death bed, one with severe kidney failure and the other had AIDS and i helped bring his status down to a controlled HIV status. Both were overnight. night saying it will work like that for everybody, but know that it will work in it's own way, some way. Be blessed all who read this.
Ultimate Guide Indeed........2007-09-05
I specially recomend this book if you have recently received your Reiki Master attunement or plan to do so. Nearly half the book is dedicated to the attunement process for levels 1, 2, Master, Healing and Psychic. Contains valuable information and it is easy to read and understand. It's a great book for my collection.
Excellent!.......2007-08-19
Not to repeat what has already been said but I just want to add my support to the positive reviews. I too read the reviews here before purchasing. I visited his website and came back here because Amazon always has the best deals. I took a leap of faith. The book is the foundation for the attunements. It is very clear and personalizes the Reiki Master who is giving you the attunements. I wouldn't do the attunement without having read the corresponding part in the book. You have to know what you have to know. The DVDs worked for me. I totally support this method and will continue on. I know there are different strokes for different folks but I gave it a chance it paid off. Actually, it paid off big time considering how much others charge for the same. I am extremely grateful to Steve Murray. He is a special and gifted guy.

Customer Reviews:
This book changed my life.......2007-10-13
I picked up a copy of this book in Mendocino, CA just after I graduated from college and was trying to figure out what to do with my life. For those of you who are somewhat introverted, academic, or artistic, you may find that his book changes your view and helps begin the process of what Jung (and now other therapists) call the "individuation" process, or normal unfolding of human life. I ended following my bliss and doing all kinds of things that have made me a very happy, very satisfied and yet unendingly curious person. I am now studying to be a therapist, and whether or not I graduate is not the point. The journey and the dream images and meaning we assign to them are the whole point. Life became a meaningful joy for me and (no kidding) this book was the ONLY source of that inspiration.
I have the coffetable version of this book, which is much larger and in color, but the smaller paperback will also do...I'm sure the pictures are good enough. It is the words, not the pictures, that change your life. Who knew that western individualistic humanism was such a powerful and compelling force of psychology?
This book changed my life for the better permanently. Read it.
How about a quality book?.......2007-09-11
The content is classic and deserves better quality presentation. How about a hardcover? The paper is cheap and already turning brown. The print is miniscule and could be a font size or two larger. I want to buy books to continue building a quality library, not a cheap throw-away.
Here are some of Carl Jung's most advanced theories.......2006-12-01
This anthology of essays by Jung and his colleagues yields great insights into Jung's school of depth psychology and the psychology of archetypes. This is a must read for any magician and other workers of the mind. One of the later essays reports the revelation that the visions of certain attuned minds answer to some of the images of the quantum realm drawn from experiments in quantum physics. Consciousness is a quantum phenomenon expanded to the human scale of size by the central nervous system.
Get the Hardback version. It is vastly superior!.......2006-10-02
This book was originally conceived of and designed in the manner of an illuminated manuscript. The images are combined with the text to convey meaning. In the paperback most of the images are gone and the ones remaining are converted to black and white and shoved into the middle of the book where they lose their context.
42 years and still going!.......2006-07-03
As other reviewers have pointed out, the editor did not make it sufficiently clear that Dr. Jung only wrote one chapter of this book and that his role was largely in editing it. Nevertheless, the authors that were chosen did a wonderful job of presenting his ideas, and they're as fresh today as they were in the early 60s when the book was written. One cannot help but reflect on the Jungian notions of balance between the collective consciousness and unconscious as we reflect on some of the world events taking place today. The rise of raw fundamental Islam as shadow juxtaposed with the sterile West frequently came to mind. The role of dreams and symbols in processing our ongoing issues was also well developed.
As with all things related to Jung this is not the kind of book that is easily read. However, if you want to become aware of Jungian thought as it pertains to the universality of symbols, the dynamics of dreams and the collective unconscious, this is your book. For a more complete look at Jungian psychology as a whole I would also recommend The Portable Jung.

Very inspiring.......2007-03-16
I've used this book a couple times now for inspiration, and it doesn't disappoint. It's organized by theme, which is very helpful since it allows you to consider the myriad different ways of approaching the same challenge.
Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
worst textbook ever.......2007-04-27
I took a graduate class at the University of Cincinnati and they used this book (it was round 2 for me as I had Communication Systems with his book that was co-authored by Salehi). Two classes + two Proakis books = brain hemorrhage. I will say that if you are mathematically strong doing well in these courses won't pose a problem. However, the amount of rereading needed to hammer in the concepts is overwhelming. It wouldn't have to be this way if he put in a lot of examples. Also, most of the problems are proofs or very complex and for that reason I noticed that neither of the professors that I had used problems from the book on exams. One exam was forced to become a take home as the results were so terrible and the other was a gram schmidt problem coupled with a small proof on bandpass signals. Some advice is in order. Follow these steps if you want to learn the material:
1.) Take and ace a Random Processes class. This will get you the background you need to blow through chapters 2 and 4 of Digital Communications by Proakis.
2.) Over break or during free time pick up the Communication Systems Engineering book and read through chapter 7 to hammer home chapter 5 of Digital Communications.
3.) Invest in a solution manual if you can find it. This way one can try ALL of the problems in the text and really learn the material.
As a final note, if you can master this course then there is absolutely no graduate class that will stand in your way. Any wireless or DSP class will seem like calc I after it.
Mediocre.......2007-03-28
I have an earlier version of this book and I also had Dr. Proakis as a professor in graduate school. Dr. Proakis has a nack of making something simple into something complex. His teaching style is similar. I always thought com theory was very difficult until I read books by others that discussed the same topics in a more cogent and lucid style.
3.64 lbs of Pure Spirtual Abuse .......2006-10-26
Someone with a decent grasp of com-theory giving this book five stars is beyond my comprehension. It provides instructors all the benefits of deception with virtually no risk of being deceived themselves. Even taking into account intellectual deception and cultural coercion due to a sense of professional self-preservation and survival, the use or praise of this text is beyond justification. Unless someone has the emotional intelligence of a turnip or purely enjoys seeing students in a state of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), there is no way anybody should be saying "I love it" (official Amazonian meaning of 5 stars) about this text.
Master Tool for stupidification of next generation communications engineers.......2006-07-15
Let me explain the title below with a quote:
<
< According to Professor Donaldo Macedo, director of the Applied Linguistics Graduate Program, schools do not always serve the best interests of their students. Combined with media and other social institutions, educational institutions often stifle critical thinking by creating a pretext of equality and perpetuating ignorance through what Macedo refers to as a process of "stupidification" or forced submission of the mind.>>
Proakis offers a major volume of cut and paste research results without intuition despite it is in its fourth edition. The volume of the book forces graduate students to scan the book without much thinking to learn the labels so that they can get through job interviews or decorate their resumes. As a result, the next generation engineers are bred as table look-up employees, dropping algorithm names without understanding the deep reasoning behind various approaches.
Proakis makes a decent acronym look-up dictionary, however undue trust on the quality and coverage of this book results in arrested mental development. This poses a significant challenge to hiring managers for research positions.
Two stars are given for the copy and paste effort since it takes two keys to do so (CTRL-C/CTRL-V). Buy for communicating with the lost generation, buy Wozencraft&Jacobs/VanTrees/Gallager and read tutorial papers to get a deep understanding if you care to learn the fundamentals of your profession.
If you dont care to learn your engineering profession fundamentals, then why dont you do an MBA?
Good coverage but poor organization ..........2003-10-20
I both love and hate this book at the same time! Its great for its wide coverage and unified presentation of material but the organization is rather poor indeed. There is little motivation and the material is presented as a matter of fact collection of topics. The presentation also seems to be out of sequence at times.
Other gripes: The errata is quite large and still not complete. Upon closer inspection, I found that several of the problems require assumptions that are not clearly described in the problem statement. This leads to a frustrating experience at times.
I can think of ways in which the material could be re-organized to make the "flow" much better. Doing this and adding little motivation and connecting material would make this a truly great book. I don't think that much additional effort is required for the re-organization - too bad this hasn't happened in the first 4 editions.
A major plus of the book remains - nothing else comes close in coverage. So it is still a pretty decent book if you can get the intuition and organization from elsewhere.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.
Customer Reviews:
Has history been tampered with?.......2007-10-23
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RAZQNMXM4M9CL Has history been tampered with? Yes, it has! Did events and eras such as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Roman Empire , the Dark Ages, and the Renaissance, actually occur within a very different chronology from what we've been told? Yes, they certainly did!
The history of humankind is both drastically shorter and dramatically different than generally presumed.
Why is it so? On one hand, it was usual custom to justify the claims to title and land by age and ancestry, and on the other the court historians knew only too well how to please their masters. The so called universal classic world history is a pack of intricate lies for all events prior to the 16th century. World history as we learn it today was entirely fabricated in the 16th-18th centuries. It's likely that nobody told you before, but
there is not a single piece of firm written evidence or artefact that is reliably and independently dated prior to the 11th century.
Naturally, after what you've learned in school and university, you will not easily believe that the classical history of ancient Rome, Greece, Asia, Egypt, China, Japan, India, etc., is manifestly false.
You will point accusing finger to the pyramids in Egypt, to the Coliseum in Rome and Great Wall of China etc., and claim, aren't they really ancient, thousands of years ancient? Well, there is no valid scientific proof that they are older than 1000 years!
The oldest original written document that can be reliably dated belongs to the 11th century!
New research asserts that Homo sapiens invented writing (including hieroglyphics) only 1000 years ago. Once invented, writing skills were immediately and irreversibly put to the use of ruling powers and science.
The consensual chronology we live with was essentially crafted in the 16th century by the Jesuits.
The world history was compiled from contradictory mix of innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts and other irrefutable proofs delivered by late mediaeval astronomers that were cemented by the authority of writings of the Church Fathers.
Early in life, we learn about ancient history. Children love the magical lessons of history - they are like fairy tales. Teachers recite breathtaking stories; very soon We learn by heart the names and deeds of brave warriors, wise philosophers, fabulous pharaohs, cunning high priests and greedy scribes.
We learn of gigantic pyramids and sinister castles, kings and queens, dukes and barons, powerful heroes and beautiful ladies, emaciated saints and low-life traitors.
Ancient history is based documents, manuscripts, printed books, paintings, monuments and artefacts - called primary sources.
The problem is that neither these ancient documents, nor events described therein can be irrefutably dated, moreover they contradict each other for the most part.
When a school textbook tells us that Genghis Khan in year X or Alexander in year Y, have each conquered half of the world, it means only that it is so said in some of the written sources.
There are no answers to simple questions:
When were these primary sources written?
Where and by whom were these sources found?
It is wrongly presumed that ancient and medieval chronicles, written by Genghis Khan's or Alexander the Great contemporaries and eyewitnesses, are readily available. Actually, only sources written hundreds or even thousands of years after the events are there, compiled mostly in the 16th 18th centuries, or even later.
As a rule, these sources suffered considerable multiple manipulations, falsifications and distortions by editing. At the same time,
innumerable originals of ancient documents under various pretexts were destroyed in Europe under various pretexts.
The names of persons and geographical sites often changed meaning and location during the course of the centuries.
Geographical locations became clearly defined on maps only with the advent of printing.
This made possible the circulation of identical copies of the same map for purposes of the military, navigation, education and governance tasks.
Historians from Oxford say: "hey, everybody knows that Julius Caesar lived in the first century B.C.
`Julius Caesar' statement is only a point of view as
there is simply no irrefutable documentary proof that Julius Caesar or any other great name of antiquity ever existed.
Better than that - extremely rare sources that can be reliably dated back to the 10th-14th centuries A D, do not show the polished picture of classical history.
They show a picture both contradictory and confusing.
All methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts are erroneous:
Radio-carbon C14 method produces dating with exactitude of plus minus 1500 years, therefore it is too crude for dating of events in historical timeframe!
The Almagest tractate, which lies as corner stone contemporary chronology, compiled in the 2nd century A D by Ptolemy, the founding father of astronomy, contains astronomical data of 9th to 16th century!
The Bronze Age,that has supposedly began 5000 years ago. Bronze is made of 90% copper and 10% tin, but the technology for tin extraction dates back to 14th century A D!.
All eclipses contained in manuscripts, like Thucydides one, relating 'ancient' events have exclusively medieval dating. All horoscopes cut in stone or painted in Egyptian temples, like Dendera have exclusively early medieval dating solutions.
Not quite what you have learned in school? Open your eyes, and, you will find sufficient proof to reach step by step the inevitable conclusion that the classical chronology is false and therefore, that the history of ancient and medieval world universally accepted today, is also false. Have a fresh outlook on everything said or printed about "ancient" and "enigmatic" Roman, Greek and Egyptian, medieval as well as all other "lost and found" civilizations.
Antiquity and Dark Ages are phantoms invented in the 16th 18th and polished in 19th 20thcenturies. Human civilization is in fact barely 1000 years old!
This book will change your perception of History forever!
What if Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt were invented during Renaissance?
What if The Old Testament was a rendition of events of the Middle Ages?
What if Jesus Christ was born in 1053 and crucified in 1086 AD?
Sounds Unbelievable?
Not after you've read "History: Fiction or Science?" by Anatoly Fomenko, the genius mathematician.
Armed with astronomy and computers Anatoly Fomenko turns History into a rocket science.
Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

A PAPERBACK ORIGINAL
The best handbook on chart usage, from one of the most trusted names in boating
In 2000, the U.S. government ceased publication of Chart No. 1, the invaluable little book that generations of mariners have consulted to make sense of the complex system of signs, symbols, and graphic elements used in nautical charts. Now Chart No. 1 is not just reborn but expanded and improved in How to Read a Nautical Chart. The demand for a book like this has never been greater.
Arranged and edited by Nigel Calder, one of today's most respected boating authors, and containing four-color illustrations throughout, How to Read a Nautical Chart presents a number of original features that help readers make optimum use of the data found in Chart No. 1, including a more intuitive format, crucial background information, international chart symbol equivalents, electronic chart symbology, and thorough explanations of the practical aspects of nautical chart reading.
Customer Reviews:
The legend on a nautical chart is not enough.......2007-06-13
As a newbie to reading charts I soon realized that much of the information displayed on a nautical chart is difficult or imposable to decode without some reference outside of the chart itself.
This book does a beautiful job of explaining all the mysterious symbols and conventions. It also has a great introduction that puts chart creation and interpretation into a practical, real-world perspective. I would consider this book to be a vital part of any vessel's safety equipment.
Excellent.......2006-11-21
This book was invaluable to me on my last sail around the bottom of South America. I remember one night when the winds were blowing strong and water was splashing everywhere, I feared my crew of scallywags would start a mutiny and leave me stranded on a deserted island near Tierra del Fuego because I was totally lost. Thank goodness I had this book! I was able to nagivate the ship safely through the Strait of Magellan and back up to Brazil... more towards the equador. I have since given up the adventures of a ship's captain and instead I am enjoying the quieter satisfactions of life in selling carpet remnants door to door. But if it weren't for this invaluable book there is no telling where Polly and I might be right now. Thank you Nigel Calder!
"What does 'rky' mean? Oops!".......2006-07-30
Since the current U.S. Administration saw fit to cease publication of CHART NO. 1, the government's own guide to reading maritime maps, back in 2000 (maybe they figured Dubai might pick up the slack around our harbors), HOW TO READ A NAUTICAL CHART is an absolutely crucial educational volume for those of us new to reading charts.
It's all here. Nigel Calder does a splendid job of taking the esoterica of chart symbolism and language and turning it into something any boater can understand in everyday terms. He also does a fine job delineating the differences between harbor charts, large area charts, GPS readings and so on, all of which have their own internal but non-complimentary logic.
If you leave the dock, knowledge of and familiarity with charts can avoid costly errors, save your boat, and literally save your life. HOW TO READ A NAUTICAL CHART is a reference you must have.
Nigel is among the most informative.......2006-07-21
Got about all Nigel's books - as I had expected, he gives a good clear insight on nautical charts and how to read them. Not much else to say! Thanks Nigel for helping make the dream come true!

great resource.......2006-02-26
A great resource even for experienced skippers. Also makes you very aware of the limitations of modern cartography (ie how many charted depths are based on a survey done 50 or 100 years ago!).
Book Description
Logo Design Workbook focuses on creating powerful logo designs and answers the question, "What makes a logo work?"
In the first half of this book, authors Sean Adams and Noreen Morioka walk readers step-by-step through the entire logo-development process. Topics include developing a concept that communicates the right message and is appropriate for both the client and the market; defining how the client's long-term goals might affect the look and needs of the mark; choosing colors and typefaces; avoiding common mistakes; and deciphering why some logos are successful whereas others are not.
The second half of the book comprises in-depth case studies on logos designed for various industries. Each case study explores the design brief, the relationship with the client, the time frame, and the results.

Take "workbook" out of the title. Call it "The Design of Famous Logos".......2007-08-02
I don't know why the author decieves us wih the word "Workbook." It should be called "about the design of famous logos"
The first 51 pages (of 230) are great. I like the colorful charts and stuff about logo design in the first 51 pages.
The rest is interesting to look at and read, but not what I need and not essential (230 pages long). I am still looking for a book about the logo design PROCESS. It is well designed and has some really great stuff, but still not everything I needed.
ANY AUTHORS OUT THERE? WRITE IT! I need a book which uses about 5 individual designers, their clients, and quotes from both about the process. I want pencil-sketchy looking beginnings. I want stuff about failures as well as successes. I want nitty gritty detail. If you can even include pictures of the designers and clients working together, photos of designers holding up logo proposals in front of a client, that would be great. I know what logos look like. I see them all the time. I do not want to see another book like this that just shows me a bunch of logos!
Getting ready to test the steps of this book..........2007-02-27
Another great book from AdamsMorioka. Graphic design geniuses. :) This book is superb-- it tells you what concerns need to be addressed before the design process begins, which was the most helpful part of the book. But the eye candy-- the logos-- were the most fun. I went through it all in a day, but can't wait to study it more intently. This will be a great reference and inspiration to me in my work.
Required reading for any student interested in logo design.......2006-05-20
Subtitled "A hands-on guide to creating logos," the book Logo Design Workbook is a must on the studio library shelf of any designer interested in the creation of logos. Now in paperback, this Rockport Publishers offering covers all aspects of identity design clearly and specifically. From "The Ten Rules" to "Implementing Logos," the authors provide a visual smorgasbord of case studies and examples from firms such as Landor Associates, Morla Design, Pentagram, and over 45 other studios of all sizes, in explaining the basics and the idiosynchrocies of the logo design process. This book should be required reading for the students of any educational institution as they begin to study the creation of identities. - Jeff Fisher, Logo Notions/CreativeLatitude and bLog-oMotives
Great resource, even for non-designers.......2005-09-18
A great introduction to logo design process. The first part of the book is about the process and the second part is a catalog of case studies.
This book will not teach you how to draw your logo in your favorite vector-based drawing program, but gives you a bird's eye view on process and it does it great: it is easy to understand and covers important topics as asking the right questions to make your logo successful. Because it talks about the process more, it does not go into details with e.g. typeface and color selection (there are books which cover those topics), but you can see how the complete identity was designed e.g. for Metropolitan Market. Recently I had to work with external graphics professionals to re-design the graphical identity of one of our products and this book's focus on the process has helped me a lot to understand and to set up project requirements.
I recommend this book to anyone who works with designers or interested in logo design.
Sparks creativity.......2005-08-17
You will not become the logo master overnight. This book is a decent resource for developing your own thought process in logo creativity.
The book is full of decent examples of "how we got here from there."
It is good reading and very educational but not necessarily a revelation.
Book Description
In six minutes, one of us would be dead. None of us knew it was coming... So says Wes Holloway, a once-cocky and ambitious presidential aide, about the day that changed his life forever. On that Fourth of July, Wes put Ron Boyle, the chief executive's oldest friend, into the presidential limousine. By the time the trip came to an end, Wes was permanently disfigured, and Boyle was dead, the victim of a crazed assassin. Eight years later, Boyle is spotted, alive and well, in Malaysia. In that moment, Wes has the chance to undo the worst day of his life. Trying to figure out what really happened takes Wes back to a decade-old presidential crossword puzzle, mysterious facts buried in Masonic history, and a two-hundred-year-old code invented by Thomas Jefferson. But what Wes doesn't realize is that The Book of Fate holds everyone's secrets. Especially the ones worth dying for. The Book of Fate. What does it say about you?
Customer Reviews:
It got better near the end.......2007-10-10
THIS BOOK STARTS OUT REALLY BAD BUT DOES SORT OF GET BETTER IN THE END. A NUMBER OF REVEIWERS SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T EVEN FINISH THE BOOK. IF THEY HAD THE PATIENCE TO STICK AROUND UNTIL THE END, THEY MIGHT HAVE HAD A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT IMPRESSION.
I really hated this book in the beginning. I didn't think I would finish it. It gets really boring and hard to get through in the middle. There is one section in the middle where the heroes are discussing the clues and their theories on what they think is happening that is just incomprehensible.
This is a typical thriller best seller. The main character was a presidential aid who finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy. The conspiracy is ridiculous. But, what is worse, the heroes theories on what they think is going on are completely ludicrous.
But, in the end there are a few twists and when you hear the real story, if kind of makes more sense and is almost plausible.
There are also some interesting aspects to the story, such as the main hero being disfigured. Unfortunately, there is too much dwelling on complaining about being disfigured as oppposed to actually exploring what it is like.
Another nice aspect of the book is that none of the characters is perfect (unlike books by Clancey or Grissam where the heroes are super heroes). One character is even partially evil and partially good.
There are some interesting insights of what being an ex-president is like, but much of it did not ring true.
Best of all, there is no computer genious who can crack any code and defeat any password, like most books have these days.
Really, it is probably a two star book. But, I am giving it 3 stars because I hated it so much at first, but did sort of enjoy the ending.
I WOULD NOT RECOOMEND BUYING THIS BOOK. WHEN YOU SEE THIS MANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON AMAZON, AND AN AVERAGE 3 STAR RATING, YOU KNOW THAT SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG. TYPICALLY, REVIEWERS GIVE 5 STARS TO ANYTHING THAT IS REMOTELY ENJOYABLE.
Disappointed.......2007-09-18
I've enjoyed all of Meltzer's other books. I could only force myself to read 3/4 of this one. There are too many other GOOD books out there to waste my time on this muddled, boring, tedious book. I hated all the characters, the plot was confusing and far-fetched. I didn't like the fact that he tells whats going to happen before it happens, and then tells about it again when it happens. Hopefully, Mr. Meltzer will read these Amazon reviews and realize his fans would like him to stick to the formulas that have worked for him before.
Poor writing can't save this story.......2007-08-28
First, I'll freely admit, I only made it through 1/3 of the book, so my review must be judged with that in mind.
This was my first story by this author, and I hate to say it, but his writing style did not fit well with me. For starters, his decision to write in the first-person drove me absoltely nuts. Many sentences included I over and over, at first I noticed it, then it got tedious, then it started to drive me nuts. I know there are somewhat conflicting opinions on first-person writing, but from what I understand it takes a real talent to make it work, I don't think Brad has that ability.
Second, and this is harder to nail down, but the more I read it, the more I felt like the writing was forced, or just didn't read well. It was like an out-of-tune guitar, the tune was correct, but it sounded god-awful.
Its sad to say, but I think the only reason this book made it to the top of the list was because it is knock-off of the Da Vinci Code, or at least Da Vinci-esque.
Was it Fated to be so bad?.......2007-08-16
I've only read one other book of Meltzer's and that was The Zero Game. That book was a random pick-up at the bookstore and a surprise in disguise. I told my husband how much I loved it and how soon I was going to get another of Meltzer's book.
So I got The Book of Fate.
Good Lord. It started off well enough. But it got bad so fast, I kept checking the cover to make sure I was actually reading a Meltzer. Why were there so many holes? Why could I not care for Wes, the President, or anyone else? What was the link to Thomas Jefferson? What was the point of the crossword puzzle?
Maybe he had a good idea when he started out. But somewhere it got bogged down in silly details and the details or explanations that should've come forth, never materialized.
I was very disappointed. I wish I could get my money back.
Interesting.......2007-08-15
This is an interesting political thriller with good and bad sides. Although it starts off quite promising it does "slow" down and looses its uniqueness.
Having said that, it does not mean that this book has no merit. The characters are well developed, it is well writen and it flows. All in all an intersting read.

An indispensable guide to Blake's ideas and symbols is once again available in paper, with a new foreword and annotated bibliography
Customer Reviews:
An essential reference work for Blake scholarship........2000-06-08
Prophet? Madman? Or philosopher? The mythological characters in William Blake's prophetic poetry present a conundrum for the reader who confronts these characters with the traditional literary expectations of a symbolic reading. Indeed, the vanguard of contemporary criticism would argue that the very complexity of Blake's mythology precludes an all inclusive schemata.
Yet S. Foster Damon's A BLAKE DICTIONARY offers compelling testament that there was methodology in Blake's madness. In addition to providing a detailed enunciation of virtually every character in Blake's poetry, Damon further offers an exposition of the major themes and symbols which Blake repeatedly returned to in his longer prophetic works. Along with both Northrop Frye's FEARFUL SYMMETRY and David Erdman's PROPHET AGAINST EMPIRE, Damon's meticulously cross-referenced dictionary is an essential reference work for anyone who dares delve into Blake's complex mythology.
