Essential for Video Blogging and Podcasting.......2006-07-25
If you want to get into Video Blogging and Podcasting this is the best book on the market today. Covers every aspect in detail while still making it all seem easy.
Best Guide to Podcasting I have read yet.......2006-07-19
I work for Loyola Marymount University. We recently decided to make all lectures available via Podcasts. I went searching for books on the subject in order to find a solution for the school. This book was by far the best book on the subject. It even gave us some ideas for video blogging that we hadn't previously considered. Without the precise and coherent coverage given to Podcasting in this book I doubt we would have a solution even half as good. Thanks to the authors for their great book. It has been invaluable.
The nitty gritty.......2006-07-18
This hands-on guide is great for nailing down the nitty gritty of podcasting. Sure, there's nothing to it; you can make a podcast in a night. But then, once it's launched, there are SO many things to consider and so many ways to expand it. This is what makes casting a blast!
His nitty gritty on bandwidth, pricing plans, and especially the case studies of existing vidcasts and podcasts helped me a lot with refining my New Civilization Podcast.
Good stuff!
Zack
The book I've been waiting for..........2006-06-02
Being new to podcasting I'm have kind of a thirst for everything I can learn on the topic. I want to know history, technique, equipment, promotion, etc. I even wanted to know what all the hype about Adam Curry was. This book is a smart, intelligently written guide to the "podosphere" and "blogosphere". It's the perfect guide to help you get started, running, and maintain your podcast or videoblog.
This book was key in helping me launch my Global Mobile Online podcast. (Search "global mobile online" on iTunes).
Thanks guys, can't wait for revision 2!

Book Description
The Definitive Guide to Interwoven TeamSite is the first comprehensive book about this enterprise-level content management system. Divided into five parts, it guides you through the Interwoven TeamSite architecture, key features, and detailed implementation. The book presents material using the Rational Unified Process as a development framework and project methodology. Each part of the book introduces the concepts and TeamSite features that you will need to understand in order to carry out each aspect of the project.
Complete with a working implementation and numerous visual guides, the book painstakingly covers the project process. The authors also include a crucial case-study of a fictitious financial services firm. Throughout the book, the authors share key development strategies, deployment principles, best practices, and insider tips that they have gained over many years of working in enterprise CMS environments at many different Fortune 500 implementations. The foreword for this book is written by Russell Nakano, who was a principal consultant and co-founder of Interwoven, author of Web Content Management: A Collaborative Approach, and who is the current president and co-founder of Nahava, Inc. The authors also discuss future product releases, including LiveSite, MetaTagger, and SaleSite. They share the future product vision of Interwoven and TeamSite in the epilogue.
Customer Reviews:
CMS, yes...but how do you BUILD a web site with it?.......2007-07-03
You have to understand first that I "grew up" in content management systems with "Joomla!," which is an open-source, fully-integrated application that gives you one pilot seat from which to build your web site. (www.joomla.org) With Joomla!, you create your information architecture, add in components, and pick out a template, and you have a fully-functioning web site in no time. You don't have the versioning and audit trails of other cms tools, but you have a whiz-bang web site that's easy to manage and incredibly extensible. Now faced with implementing TeamSite, I just can't believe that anyone would choose this behemoth over Joomla!. Nevertheless, the question that NO ONE can answer for me, not Interwoven and certainly not the "definitive guide," is "How do you actually build a web site with it?" It seems that Interwoven and this book assume that you have teams of programmers who have always built all their sites one file at a time. They start from scratch and script their little hearts out. This book may explain the installation and general templating procedures of TeamSite, but it doesn't explain the general approach to building a web site with it. There are many, many gaps, and it's not very helpful for non-programmers or first-time CMS builders. So, if you're buying this book as a pre-purchase decision, I'd suggest looking at Joomla!--chances are, you'll be happier with it, and it's free.
Somewhat helpful, but definitive.......2007-05-16
The book is fairly helpful, and did bring to light a few new ways of thinking about interwoven. However, many of the examples seem to be incomplete and only scratch the surface, leaving the reader needing/wanting more information.
Poor Quality and missing pieces........2007-05-16
This book leaves out allot. Good luck trying to get some of the examples to work. Many of the files are missing. It seems like the main objective of the book is to make a dollar since there are not allot of books on the topic outside of the Interwoven community.
An example of the poor quality of the book is in Chapter 16. The book talks about navigation and says it will go into more detail in chapter 15. However you are already in Chapter 16 and 15 is actually about workflows.
The reality is if you are implementing Interwoven CMS you need to buck up and take their developers series class. If you already know how to program you will be fine. If you try to use this book as a resources it is pretty much worthless.
Save your money and join the devnet community it's free and way more helpful.
Excellent beginners guide to Teamsite and a great addition to the experienced professional's bookshelf.......2007-01-04
It is not easy to give an overview of the TeamSite product line in 537 pages, but Hastings and McNeal do an admirable job of covering project methodology, an overview of the entire TeamSite product line, and a deep dive into TeamSite templating and workflow.
This is certainly not everything there is to know. TeamSite is an almost infinitely configurable product, but you will not find as good an overview and introduction to TeamSite as this book. And that is not just because this is the only book on TeamSite out there; you won't find this kind of overview in Interwoven's manuals or Training materials either.
I highly recommend this book now, but if it comes out in an expanded second edition for a little less money it will be a no brainer.
Hits the nail on the head!.......2006-10-21
First let me say that I have never seen a formalized methodology such as the Rational Unified Process wrapped into a book on Content Management, let alone such a title demonstrate how to incorporate those practices into CMS work. I found this to be a novel concept and one that I feel will add a lot of value to my future projects. The authors share their expertise, not only with technical TeamSite implementations details, but also with some softer skills related to everyday IT/CMS life ( i.e., project management, requirements management, project deployment, and marketing). The book is broken up logically enough into sections which map to the specific RUP phase being discussed. Detailed coverage is given to TeamSite 6.5, with some additional coverage of TeamSite 6.7. Most of the Interwoven products are discussed, explaining why certain products could be selected, what their purpose is, and the value that they may add to an implementation. The authors also provide coverage of how to define a taxonomy in MetaTagger, using OpenDeploy and DataDeploy, using LiveSite, TeamSite Front Office, TeamSite Search, as well as extremely handy FormAPI and FormsPublisher references. Thank you and well done!

Customer Reviews:
eBay for Dummies.......2007-09-29
Excellent book and just what I wanted. It arrived quickly and in great condition.
Ok but incomplete.......2007-08-27
I read the Dummys Guide several months ago. Since then I have read a number of other books and watched the Dont Bid On It eBay video. I also read the Simplified Tips for ebay, Schills and Sharks, and several others. After going through everything I am ready to pass along my opinion. I will mainly compare and contrast the Dummys guide with my top choice.
The information in the Dummys Guide was outdated and incomplete. The information was good but there was a lot of important things that were left out. Pages are filled with cute cartoons instead of details ebay users really need. Lots of filler to make the book longer but when compared to newer books, the actual information was thin. It barely comments on snipe bidding but the like Don't Bid On It book(which is also available here at amazon), has a detailed article on snipe bidding plus a chapter on bidding strategies that explains how it works along with other bidding strategies. The Dummys guide only quickly mentions fraudulent sellers and feedback with little explination of how to check it. Dont Bid has an extensive chapter explaining how feedback really works, how to prevent bad buyers from leaving you negative feedback, how to use feedback to spot hijacked or fake accounts, a full chapter on feedback and how it works, it also has a full section on identifying honest buyers and what to do if you do have a problem with a buyer or seller, and much more than I can list here.
Did you know that any seller who says "I am not responsible for loss or damage if you do not buy insurance" is WRONG, they are legally responsible even if the buyer does not pay for insurance.
Did you know that if you select the wrong option when filing a PayPal complaint, your complaint will be automatically rejected and you will not be able to re-file? That is pretty important to know and both of these were in the Dont Bid book but not in Dummys Guide as well as many similar tips.
The Dont Bid book also has a demonstration video. Many of the pages in the Dummys guide were filled with explinations about what webpage to go to and what to do, it was much easier to see it demonstrated in the Dont Bid video than it was to read the step by step in the dummys guide. Some of the Dummy's Guide information was not useful, for example, they explain how to research a bidder by seeing when they return to re-bid every day, but in the Dont Bid book they explain that you should not be bidding against such an inexperienced bidder in the first place because that only runs up the price unnecessarily. By simply waiting until the last minute or using snipe software you can avoid this bidder running up the price. This was not part of the dummys strategy and as far as I can remember, that was the only strategy they had. The Dont Bid book had several bidding and several more buying strategies.
The Dummys Guide gives you enough information to get started on eBay, but not enough to trade safely or enough to buy/sell and obtain the best prices. The Dummys guide is not expensive so give it a read but dont use eBay before you read the Don't Bid On It series, only then will you really know how to use eBay safely and correctly.
Great beginning book.......2007-06-17
I hadn't done much with eBay before, so there was more explained in this book than what I had imagined eBay had. Very informative and easy to read.
Not only for Dummies...........2007-06-14
A Gotta Have book if you are planning on starting an eBay business in your home. Great reference for the experienced eBayer.
Great Buy.......2007-05-16
Great book for the beginner in Ebay buying and selling, I found it very informative.

Customer Reviews:
A Practical Guide to CRM.......2006-02-25
Redundant reference to nearly every main point. This book could easily have been one third the length and twice as effective if the author had been concise.
A hearty Recommendation.......2002-07-31
The author has clearly explained CRM, its premise, it application within the workplace, and its components, processes and technical underpinnings. The book provides the reader with a coherent definition and then backs it up with a CRM action plan that provides a distinct link to business essentials within the scope of a concise understanding of the broad range of processes that it takes to implement CRM. The author does a great job of explaining the necessity of bringing together the business, its processes and technology and does so in a very down to earth manner (no technospeak). The book then provides the reader with a very clear diagram of what is needed to bring a specific CRM application to fruition.
This book provides a very balanced picture of CRM. So if you need to understand CRM, its value, how it relates to business processes and what it takes to implement it, this book is for you. The checklists are invaluable and it gives you basically everything needed for a successful CRM implementation.
There are Many Reasons to Buy this Book.......2002-07-20
The book should be on the reference shelf of any manager or executive contemplating, implementing or working with CRM since it does a wonderful job of covering the business issues and technical parameters and requirements of CRM. For example, the author goes into considerable detail about how and why CRM is important to meeting business requirements and devotes many pages to the vendor and partner selection process. Furthermore, the book covers CRM from not only the IT viewpoint, but also from the departmental manager and executive office's perspective. I think it would be hard to find a book with a more comprehensive road map to CRM. Yet, the book is an easy read.
Should be on every Business Executive's Reading List.......2002-05-18
If you're involved in CRM, or are in a company that is considering CRM then this book should be your CRM Bible. It provides a thorough, well-organized treatise on all aspects of CRM. The author not only provides a full explanation of what CRM is and what CRM IS NOT, she also walks the reader through planning a business case, dealing with the human element, planning stages, project management and finally implementation. Every section is thoroughly covered, from RFP to vendor selection to outsourcing.

A graeat place to start.......2007-03-01
This book is a great place to start learning about the webcasting. It gives you all of the basic information to decide if you want to research further into the world of streaming media.
I liked this book enough to buy another of his books "The Business of Streaming & Digital Media". While I have not finished reading it I think it will be just as good.
Very Basic.......2006-09-07
Maybe a great book for people who are not at all familary with webcasting. But if you have done one before, this is NOT for you!
I was very disappointed that advanced concepts were skimmed over in just a sentence or two. The book only covered default choices and basic setup.
Quick read.......2006-07-01
I wanted to get a book to teach me the basics. This did the trick and was an easy read. Overall it does what I expected. I could use more techncical details, but that is for the engineer in me.
The Best Resource Available to Get Started Webcasting.......2006-05-08
Dan Rayburn and Steve Mack are two industry veterans with incredible insight into the process and business of event webcasting. Steve brings a wealth of hands-on experience producing high profile events, and Dan knows the ins and outs of the business models and the digital media industry landscape.
This book does a great job detailing, step by step, all the things you should consider when producing your own webcast...from how to deal with contracting issues, where to place cameras and microphones, how to deal with venue staff and third party vendors, and many other practical tips.
If you want to get a head start on webcasting, this is the best book out there to get you going.
Beginners: Start here.......2006-05-08
Amazon asks us to rate books by stars, but when I read a book about webcasting -- especially when it purports to be a guide for beginners -- I use the "Yeahbut" scale. As in the number of times I scream "Yeah, but..." when the author(s) make some simplistic statement about a complicated issue.
I'm happy to report that the "Yeahbut" issue really never came up with this book. Scattered throughout the chapters are sidebars -- some labled "Alerts," some "Author's Tips," and others "Inside the Industry" -- that do a nice job of expanding on issues raised in the main text. Overall, the authors do a fine balancing act between being too simplistic and overloading the reader with detail.
Disclosure: Part of my job is producing webcasts, and until recently was in an academic setting where I also taught classes on the subject. I am acquainted with both authors through professional meetings and their other writings. That being said, I have no hesitation in strongly recommending this book.
What's unique about the structure of this book is that it covers both technical and business issues equally well. It's straightforward in its approach to technical matters -- lots of screenshots to illustrate settings and controls -- but it also lays out some essential considerations that are all-too-often overlooked by the beginner. Does this webcast really have to be live? What can I reasonably expect from an audience in terms of its connectivity? Can we handle this ourselves, or do we need to outsource this? Can we afford the bandwidth to do this? Folks just starting out seldom realize that getting a computer to spew out video and audio packets over the Internet is darn near the easiest thing in the world to do. Having content worth seeing, well, that's the hard part.
One of the challenges of writing about webcasting is that the subject's a moving target. Examples in the book are heavily weighted toward RealNetworks and Microsoft's Windows Media. Quicktime is covered with respect to embedding the player in web pages and creating metafiles, but is generally sold short as a streaming platform. Likewise, Flash is largely dismissed. Both decisions were reasonable at the time the book was written and released. QuickTime Broadcaster wasn't the product it is now with it's use of the H.264 codec, and Flash 8 was still some months away. I'd expect a second edition to use more examples from each of these, but the real meat of this book -- the business, video and audio production, budget and personnel considerations -- are really quite independent of the particular streaming architecture one happens to use. And, for all the hype surrounding Flash here in the Spring of 2006, Windows Media and Real are still the industry heavyweights.
There are other good books about the technical side of webcasting -- Damien Stolarz's "Mastering Internet Video : A Guide to Streaming and On-Demand Video" comes to mind as a non-Steve-Mack-authored example -- but Steve Mack and Dan Rayburn have written a unique book: a comprehensive survey of an often misunderstood topic that is both clear and immediately useful in a practical way. If you're new to webcasting, make this book one of your first purchases.

basics good, but details are now out of date.......2007-08-25
The basic concepts in this book are good, but all the details are quite out of date. (For example, the statistics on how 61% of internet users are browsing with Netscape Communicator.)
If you buy this book for the root concepts, you will be in good shape. But if you use the information as your guide to the current state of internet selling and choose technology based on it, please keep in mind that you will need more current references.
Useful book for internet home businesses.......2007-08-13
Useful book if you have online home business. This was recommended to me by a friend who has a successful online business. Easy to read.
An excellent guide!.......2005-05-25
This book is a gold mine of information, from design tips to marketing strategies. And Dillehay refers to tons of free software that you can use, so it doesn't have to cost you a fortune to get your business going. I will consult this book again and again as I'm building my business.
from Lapidary Journal.......2004-12-12
"This book has an astonishing amount of usable information, crammed into so few pages! James Dillehay has an amazing talent for getting right to the point, with a minimum of "geekese." . . . The book seems to cover all the basics in a systematic way. It makes the intimidating prospect of even thinking about setting up a Web site a lot easier to approach. Of the entire list of computer instructional manuals I have read, this one would top the list. I would not hesitate to recommend it . . . even to my mom." ~ Lapidary Journal
Excellent.......2003-02-25
This book is choc full of great information and resources aimed at getting your craft business online and making it work once it's there. Also, all the links in this book go where they are supposed to, so I wasn't frustrated by a load of error 404s. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in selling crafts or artwork online.

Internet law is a vital topic about which anyone who conducts business online must become educated. This is true regardless of your online activities if you fall into any of the following categories:
- a self-employed businessperson or independent contractor, creating content for the World Wide Web, designing websites, or authoring software applications;
- an entrepreneur who wants to launch an online business;
- a consumer who engages in e-commerce;
- an information technology professional for a company of any size;
- a business executive for a company that exists solely on the Internet or simply has a promotional website; or
- a lawyer who regularly fields high-tech legal questions from clients or simply needs to be prepared for the occasional Internet legal issue.
Regardless of what role you play online -- in your personal or professional life, as a sole proprietor, or as an employer or an employee -- Internet law affects you. This book explains how.

I just received a copy of this book & had I known that the original price was just $17.95, I would not have paid so much money. Not only is this book overpriced, it is dated. Although there is some good information in this book, alot has happened since 2002 & there are better resources out there that are more current & don't cost a small fortune.

In a digital world of sequential processing, the Guide panders to our human parellel processing capabilities. Pattern is social impact, law involved and case study ... not necessarily in that order. Information is up-to-date. Purchased both the book and the digital copy. Love the book; have rarely used the digital except for keyword lookup. What truly makes the book worth five stars besides competence, is the choice of topics. So if you are into digital dirt such as software copyright violations, cybersquatting and digital trademark infringement ... this is a must-have book for you.
invaluable .......2005-06-01
This is a great book-- it does an excellent job of explaining the concepts underlying the law and teaches you to THINK in legal terms. In that sense it is timeless...The author does a great job of explaining concepts and avoiding mumbo-jumbo.
Best Internet Law Book Available .......2004-11-29
Pros: Easy to read, comprehensive, good for law students, lawyers, and lay people alike! Read it, and you'll have complete understanding of current and past internet law.
Cons: the gigalaw.com website is more up to date.
As a law student, I took an internet course. Gigalaw Guide to Internet Law was, by far, my best resource. It wasn't an official text for the class, but I found it far more useful than the books we had to read. It supplied great examples to illustrate applicable law. I used it to study for exams, and it gave me complete coverage of all course topics.
Also, it really doesn't read like legalese. You could keep it on your coffee table for light reading.
If you are a business person who has to understand internet law, I highly recommend you read this book -- you'll learn all the same things that I learned in law school and will one day charge hundredss of dollars an hour to explain to you :) If you are a law student, this will serve as a great study guide.

Terrific book for folks with an interest, intellectual or practical, in how the law intersects with the Internet. Isenberg's explanations are readable and accessible. First rate.
Book Description
An in-depth technical guide on the security technology driving Internet e-commerce expansion.
"Planning for PKI" examines the number-one Internet security technology that will be widely adopted in the next two years. Written by two of the architects of the Internet PKI standards, this book provides authoritative technical guidance for network engineers, architects, and managers who need to implement the right PKI architecture for their organization. The authors discuss results and lessons learned from early PKI pilots, helping readers evaluate PKI deployment impact on current network architecture while avoiding the pitfalls of early technical mistakes. Four technical case studies detail the do's and don'ts of PKI implementation, illustrating both successes and failures of different deployments. Readers will also learn how to leverage future PKI-related technologies for additional benefits.

Very useful guide to PKI........2003-11-19
If you have just started working with PKI software or with OpenSSL and would like to gain a better understanding of X.509 certificates, certificate enrollment protocols and PKI, this book is for you. It's an excellent guide written by two of the co-authors of the "Internet X.509 Public Key Infrastructure: Certificate and Certificate Revocation List (CRL) Profile" (RFC 3280).
planning for PKI.......2002-07-20
I was expecting something which is more practical with regards to PKI. Author talks about theory of PKI in half the book. And then provides case studies which has very low utility if you are thinking of implementing PKI in J2EE or .NET or even ordinary ecommerce applications...The title is totally a misnomer. Only good thing i found was that the theory presented was helpful to understand PKI...
What a great read.......2002-06-05
WOW, this goes into some great detail. I am new to PKI, but this has really opened up my eyes to some of the more exquisite details. Great for anyone interested in PKI, but you do need to have some knowledge on Cryptography.
Still work to be done with PKI.......2002-01-27
While Planning for PKI is a well written book, after reading I still am not sure how it all fits together. I bought the book to learn more about PKI and chose this book because previous references rated this as the best book available on PKI. After reading this book I know a little more about PKI, but this book did not "de-mistify" PKI for me.
Planning for PKI: Non-techie's review.......2001-09-18
This is a great book for those of us who are NOT PKI development engineers. I learned a lot from this book; the authors, Russ Housley and Tim Polk, were able to present technical material in a way that was completely understandable to non-technical people who are interested in Internet and computer security issues. The Appendix on ASN.1, for example, clarified structures for me. As a policy person, I particularly enjoyed the Chapter on PKI Policy, thought it well written, succinct, and right on target. Since I read this book, I have referenced it in presentations and papers on the subject. Great work!

A STRATEGIC CALL TO CALL CENTER TECHNOLOGY.......2005-03-07
For most customer communications, the call of the customer contact center is the point of entry. Author Andrew Waite does an excellent job in this book of explaining the strategies, techniques and technologies to ensure that you get the most out of your telephone call portion of your customer contact center investment. Waite first goes on to explain a few parts and principles that affect the customer call center manager. Next, the author touches on staffing and the importance of adequate labor pools in the location you have chosen to operate your customer contact center. Then, Waite focuses on the telephone call component and the management of telephony workflow. Next, the author deals with the hardware, architecture and relationship between the components and subsystems of a switching system, which includes the automatic call distributor (ACD) system (of which the author acknowledges that there is no easy way to catergorize ACD systems). Then, Waite looks at the instruments used in the traditional call center.
So, as customer contact center managers become more sophisticated and mature in their role, according to the author, they grow to trust the machine data and, thus, need fewer comprehensive reports. Nevertheless, Waite points out one inteesting fact out of all this that is coming out of call center operations: Unless it is a pure direct sales respnse, most calls happen for less than positive reasons.
Finally, with the preceding in mind, Waite has done an outstanding job in this book of identifying the major trends within the customer contact center industry center around explosive technology growth. This has led to a growing library of open architectures with industry standard interfaces, more sophisticated tools reisding in smaller centers and more component applications involved in each transaction.
Needed help.......2004-03-31
I was promoted to run the call center in our company. We have two centers with 300 Telephone and Customer sales reps. I have no expernce in computers except for my PC. I bought this book to help me talk to the computer staff. They cannot fool me as much now. They were too busy for the call center. Now they understand we make most of the money. This book help me present this better.
