This book is going to change the way you view speaking whether to youth or to the church. I read this book and it challenged the way I prepared my sermons. But after testing it out I found that the principles were very true. This is Stanley's method of preaching, and it is not simplifying your message, it is actually more about saying exactly what you want to say in the clearest most concise way possible. This style of speaking will help bring about change!

Like most of his sermons, I found myself engrossed in his message, and I couldn't put this practical book down. Seminaries would be wise to offer this as required reading in their preaching classes.

Easy to read and packed with practical tools for people to use right away, this book is full of the concepts and exercises Dr. Lori Gordon has been testing and refining for over 25 years!
I love this book because it focuses on strengths instead of weaknesses and is really a "how to" book instead of "pie in the sky theory." I use it to help people discover what they can do differently as well as to understand their partner's behaviors, but always to help them make something they want actually happen!

Malescan learn to be intimate.......2000-08-08
I came accross this book in a "Revocery Works" Book Store in Malvern, Pa. The specialize in AA/NA/Sexual Abuse of both chilren and adults amond other conditions such as depression and female self confidence. I've always had a problem being realy intimate with my female partner/lover/wife. (Not al at he same time.) Only after reading this book and completing the short journal assignments was a able to come to grips with just how the lack of intimacy in my relationships hindered the growth and/or continuing of some relationship. But this is not just a book for single men. It was developed for married couples and then spread to single couples and now, just plain singles. Just as I, a member of the big sometimes dumb, male member of the human race so can the female members of the same race gain knowledge and courage from this book. I used the term "same race because, at times, I felt the women i was dealing with were from another planet. God only knows what they felt about me. It's a five star book and i intend to buy 6 copies for my friends. Assuming i can find them

Not bad, but "incomplete".......2007-08-24
I received the product in a reasonably timely manner and gave it to my wife to prepare for her TOEIC test. All was going well, until she got to the practice tests. I don't recall seeing anywhere that you had to buy the audio CDs separately. It comes with one, but that only covers the pre-practice test, or whatever its called. On top of that, I have been unable to find any retailer that sells the Complete Audio kit from within the US. My wife said its a good book, but should really include the audio for ALL of the practice tests. Yeah, I could read the audioscript to her, but we thought the whole point of having an audio CD included was so that she could listen to that, and not me.
Overall, not a bad book, but again, should include all of the audio on the CD(s).

But NO CD is included for other part of Listening practice
and the two complete practice tests in the book.
I was a little disappointed since I expected I can go through
the complete practice tests twice before I take an actual TOEIC test.
It seemd we have to buy other CD, Complete Adio Progran (0-13-199308-9),
which I couldn't find at amazon.com.

We bought several copies of this book (new), knowing that it was excellent for groups, to use in a study. It is a shame the binding isn't as good as the book. By the time you finish chapter one, all the pages of the chapter have become inserts. And it continues on in the same manner. It should come with a binder and a hole punch.

Concise Collection of Familiar Ideas.......2005-07-23
There's nothing really new or insightful in this book for anyone who has had some training in Christian relational and marital dynamics. Wright here offers a good definition of Christian marriage, pointers on communication, and a lengthy explanation of personality types. He concludes his work by providing some advice on anger and how to resolve conflict. This book isn't bad, but I've read far better and much more stimulating titles.

This book really is wonderful. It is a great at-home counseling tool for couples to do themselves. There are questions and exercises throughout, and at the end of each chapter, to help guide you through constructive conversation between you and your spouse. The book talks about personality traits and gives examples and couples' stories that you can really relate to. It was not uncommon for me to say at times when reading the book, "This is me they're talking about" or "They're describing my husband and our relationship." I've began to buy it as gifts for friends. This book really did bless me and it enabled me to see me.

The beginnings of Lean in the west?.......2004-11-10
Michael Greif has written a book on lean principles long before the MIT study resulted in "The Machine the Changed the World".
The foundation of lean is generally agreed to be the 5Ss, kaizen, and visual communication. This book, while focused on VC, does adequately cover the others. Consider this... the book was written in the late 80's, when Lean Manufacturing as a term had not yet been coined.
And now, the review... this is an excellent study on visual communication. Although limited in scope (most practical examples were of western European factories), it is a study that should not be limited to factories; rather, one that has application in many aspects of daily life.
Practical examples, diagrams, drawings, and checklists abound. Definitely user-friendly, and as the subject matter demands, visually communicative.
A Way to Improve Quality & Productivity.......2002-01-16
I think this easy to read book is a must for all the industry sectors. It illustrates visual management (or visual communication; VC) as a very important issue to boosting the factorys' or companys' productivity through increasing the effectiveness of the employees' from head management to the shop floor workers by the effective sharing of information and by encouraging the workers to participate in developing these information. In addition; VC helps in building a sense of belonging to the factory or company within the workers themselves which will work in the factory (company) best interest.
The book introduces guide lines for applying the VC. I think that the real cases covered along with the many different graphs and pictures really helped in clearing out many points.

This is a very readable and credible work. Chapter six on visual process indicators is my favorite. It was an a-ha moment for me!!

After having taken a course, then later helped teach a course (University level) using this book I found that it is full of mistakes and difficult to read. Not recommended as an introductory text. The book may serve acceptably as an reference, but it is not a great teaching tool.
Instructors take notice that the electronic solutions to the problem sets have many errors. There are also many errors not acknowledged in the book's errata. (Errata hasn't been updated for 1 year).

This is the book that is used at the University of Toronto in the fundamental courses of communication systems. I would say, althought very hard to read the whole thing in one term, it is an amazing book, very good and concise.
It covers a broad range of topics some to details and some just a scratch. It is very easy to understand and that's where it gets boring!(too much story writing) however, you can be sure that you can understand a topic fully by reading that chapter. Almost no point is left unclear.
It is a very good encyclopedia for this field. I would suggest buying it if you would like introductory stuff plus a bit of technical details but not too gory!

This book is good for electrical or computer engineering people as a good start. Actually this book is related to both computer networks and digital communications, like a good overview, also including new technology stuff, such as IEEE 802.11, DWDM.

I feel like I've been waiting forever to find a book that would neatly describe how to listen better. There are so many "self-help" books out there, but nearly all of them are ineffectual. Are You Really Listening, however, is extremely useful. I have found it so helpful in my life, because the authors wrote it using an honest and clear voice that is shared between them.
Moreover, I found the brief case illustrations to illuminate wonderfully the messages and lessons that these two experts prescribe.

Mind over Matter: If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.......2007-05-09
I had the privilege of seeing Marc Salem's show "Mind Games" and immediately pre-ordered the book. I was looking for him to reveal his secrets so I could amaze my friends. Well, guess what? As with virtually anything in this life, it is not an instant ability. It isn't a trick. And it's not magical, mystical, or extraterrestrial. It is, like most things, hard work, focus, concentration and practice, practice, practice.
Now, to be fair, Salem has a most engaging presentation, both in his book and, especially, in person. So the book is definitely a pleasant read. And I've no doubt that most people could apply his techniques with varying degrees of success, depending on how much time and effort they were willing to put into it.
Bottom line is that I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who wishes to become more attuned to what's happening around them.
And, by all means, if you have the opportunity to see the man in person... GO!!

As the saying goes, it's the simple things that make a difference. In this case, the focus is relationship communication. The seven keys are as follows:
1. Hearing what you say, I feel . . . .
2. I want . . . .
3. I have some feelings to clear . . . .
4. I'm getting triggered about . . . .
5. I appreciate you for . . . .
6. I hear you, and I have a different perspective . . . .
7. I would like to talk about how we're feeling.
You might immediately notice the common theme of using "I" statements to express feelings. These precepts are elementary for good communication, and the author presents them in lucid terms, with engaging, narrative examples. Anyone could benefit from applying these principles, especially those new to the topic of relationship communication.

I came upon this book the hard way. I was raised in a family that rarely showed emotion and never talked about feelings. Although my former girlfriend tried several times to get me to talk about my feelings, I refused to do so and told her that was silly.
After she left me, I tried unsuccessfully to win her back. That's when I realized how terrible my communication skills were. I communicated the only way I knew how, which was usually either by attacking or by being defensive. Yet amazingly, until reading "Saying What's Real," I didn't realize this. I just thought I was logical. After all, I could win any argument with her or anyone else.
This book taught me that healthy communication is not about being right or getting people to do what we want. The author, Susan Campbell, makes the case that most communication comes from the (mostly unconscious) intent to control through manipulation, trying to impress others, lying so as not to hurt another's feelings, etc. She says that, conversely, healthy communication is about, "Creating mutually beneficial solutions... and sharing what we feel and think." In other words, healthy communication is about relating, which Campbell says builds intimacy and connection.
Since I wasn't comfortable with talk about relating and sharing, I initially thought the book's advice wasn't useful to men like me. After all, what man on this planet talks about how something made him feel? However, I kept reading and eventually become convinced Campbell is right. It became obvious that had I been able to really communicate and relate to my former partner, things would have turned out differently. She once commented how we often didn't seem to "get" each other. Now I know why.
After finishing the book, I went back and took 21 pages of notes. I plan to review them on a regular basis until I completely break my old patterns and make "real communication" and relating a habit. I'll also read this book with my next girlfriend when the time is right. It may be too late to salvage my old relationship, but I'm going to make sure communication is not a problem the next time around.
Saved my marriage.......2005-06-11
It sounds cliche, but it is the truth - Susan Campbell saved our marriage. My husband and I have talked with therapists and read lots of books yet we never were able to get past certain difficulties. Using the simple, honest suggestions in this book and in "Getting Real" (also by Susan Campbell), gave us the vocabulary and tools to begin the journey of getting more connected to each other. We have learned that assumptions about the other persons feelings are very often inaccurate while being present and honest about ourselves and being OPEN to the other is almost magical when practiced by two willing partners. This is a practice....it takes time..."Saying What's Real" is a great start. I suggest reading it out loud together (and get "Getting Real" too).
I highly recommend both of these books.
