Customer Reviews:
A Must-Have for anyone having something to do with finance........2007-10-07
Great Dictionary with all the financial/investment terms and abreviations.
The book has become my table-book.
Got confused with wording??? It just takes second to get the full definition.
A++++ RECOMEND!!!
Great reference material.......2007-09-10
This is the best reference for the securities industry. I am new to the industry but in a high level position. This is the book that our Complance officer is using to bring me up to speed on terminology and concepts. Better than a textbook. Just remember that it is basically a dictionary -NOT a textbook - so if you need a textbook I would suggest getting this as a supplement to it.
Great reference tool for your desk.......2007-07-13
I've been in banking for over 12 years and I still run into words and phrases that are sometimes unfamiliar to me. This book has been a handy tool on my desk--colleagues have come by to use it. If you work in banking or finance, or are a student majoring in similar fields, I would suggest that you make this essential to your portfolio of tools that you use.
Useful, small, light...........2007-05-13
It helped me on several occasions. There are, however, terms that are not defined, so I need to refer to the internet for those. Overall, a good deal....
COVERED GENERAL BUSINESS; NOT JUST FINANCE AND INVESTMENT.......2005-11-10
Despite being called "Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms", this dictionary not only covered finance and investing, by cut across every aspect of general business. Its extensive coverage of management, accounting, marketing, advertising, and real estate makes it really unnecessary for anyone who already owns it to be bothering about acquiring any other business dictionary. Also, its encroaching expansion into computer and internet terms is both commendable and valuable.
All of its terms have been revised and simplified, using everyday language. And, a rare combination of quality and low price ensures that the demand for this dictionary will continue to dominate those of its rivals. Its 736 pages, which hold more than 5000 definitions remained astonishingly compact, authoritative, refined, and very concise. It is indeed a true hard-to-beat choice!
Book Description
More than 3,000 terms are defined in this newly updated edition as they relate to banking, banking practices, laws, and regulations. Barron's Business Dictionaries are useful reference sources for business students as well as the general reader who is seeking advice and information on business matters.
Customer Reviews:
Exellent resource.......2007-01-09
I use this in a training class about bank documentation. It is very helpful and comprehensive. It defines terms in concise and easy to understand words. Even a seasoned banker can learn something from this dictionary.
Comprehensive.......2002-09-26
Working in an IT company catering to bankers I bought this book to help understand their lingo. I have to say it hasn't disappointed yet. It is also very up to date the latest IT/banking terms. If you were to read all the definitions in this book you would probably know more than you banker. A great reference. Buy it!
Don't Let the Title Fool You.......2001-08-05
This can almost be considered an inexpensive textbook. It not only defines, but explains the terms in a simple, easy to understand format. Although in dictionary form, it consistently relates the terms to one another so the reader will understand how the concepts interwind. Includes financial and banking terms.
bookisexcellent.......1999-05-25
book should contain all banking terms because most of them are not understood by layman
Clear and Comprehensive.......1999-01-29
Whether you are a novice seeking to learn the fundamentals of banking, or an active professional who has just encountered an unusual term, you will want this book. Each definition is short (only a paragraph or so), but most contain links to other terms, so the reader can gain a progressively deeper understanding of how terms interrelate. I also like the frequent inclusion of dates (e.g., the year a particular law was passed). The definitions are authoritative--based on a number of leading accounting, banking, and financial entities identified in the introduction. It's worth far more than its bargain price. I look forward to the next edition (Year 2000?). Keep up the good work!

Customer Reviews:
Difficult book to use.......2005-12-01
This book and its predecessor are difficult to use. While the information may be good, this book requires a lot of flipping back and forth between pages. The CDs are really, really bad. The persons posing as doctors are poor readers. It's obvious they're reading scripts from the sound of turning pages heard. These persons affect poor accents...one female tried to sound Scottish and kept saying "fart" for "for". One male, who reads as if, at best, he has an 8th grade education with a 5th grade reading level (he doesn't understand commas and periods), is really bad to listen to when he tries to sound Hispanic. Loud crunching sounds and cocaine sniffs by one male and the above-mentioned female sound like delinquent hogs at slop. The very worst thing about the CD and text, however, is in the fact that terminology is not only not found in the text, it isn't found in Taber's, Mosby's, or Stedman's dictionaries, nor in the Merck Manual. I wouldn't recommend purchase unless, like me, you are required to purchase these for a class. I know doctors can be extremely aggravating, but no more so than the "doctors" on the CD and this text!
Excellent book .......2004-11-29
The 2004 Delmar Thomson catalog states that an audio CD is in the back of this book. In order to get this audio CD of dictations, call Delmar at 1-800-998-7498, extension 2687
Page 115 of this catalog says that an audio CD of helpful exercises is in the back of the book.
Excellent as long as you get the tapes!.......2001-09-22
Great book for advanced training. Get the tapes for sure!
Forrest General Medical Center:Medical Term.& Transcription.......2000-04-26
This is a reference book only. You have to call the publisher to order the dictation. Without the dictation a medical transcription 'course' is rather useless.

Great tool to have!.......2007-09-05
It is very useful for everyday people, students and real estate professionals. It explains the real estate concepts in simple words, so that even a person that knows nothing about real estate understands it.
Constant companion.......2007-06-08
Excellent reference book - I keep it nearby and use it on a regular basis.
Brain enhancer.......2007-05-06
This is a good reference book to have laying around the office. Whether a debate on a definition, or the answer is on the tip of the tongue, you can find it in this helpful dictionary.
Unless you have a photographic memory this book will be a good investment.
Knowing how and where to find the answer to a real estate related question is as valuable as knowing the answer. Good study guide for newbies also. It pays to enhance your word power. Get one....

probably the best dictionary of it's kind.......2007-04-03
as someone who works in real estate, i find myself refering to this dictionary all the time. this is probably the best pocket sized dictonary on real estate on the market. great value.
Great reference to keep handy!.......2007-02-02
I bought this book when I first started as an analyst two years ago. It helped immensely when terms were thrown around in a meeting and I didn't know what they meant. This book comes with easy to understand definitions, formulas, and examples. I don't need it as often anymore, but it still comes in handy when I want to double check on something, or when I'm writing memos. I recommend this to every new analyst that walks through the door!

This dictionary has it all + simplified examples. Bottom line, if you think it you'll find it.
This book is contagious!!!.......2007-01-10
This little book puts almost everything at your fingertips: formulas, examples, abbreviations, acronyms, not just definitions. A must have for any accountant or anyone studying the subject. I showed this to my old accounting professor and he wished this was his.
Great Reference Book.......2005-08-10
This book has everything going for it.
1. It is small
2. It is packed with information
3. Definitions are concise yet complete
4. It covers many basic business concepts as well.
Great Reference.......2003-10-27
I use it on a regular basis. Covers a variety of business terms and concepts.

This new and heavily updated Fourth Edition has been expanded with approximately 200 new terms, and updatings of many other terms to reflect the current state of the insurance industry.
Customer Reviews:
Terrific Tool!!.......2007-10-24
This book is a great tool for the insurance studies, the concepts are very clear and help you to have a better knowledge.
This is a good non-specialist dictionary of insurance terms and principles that's a must have in addition to speciality books........2007-09-05
I work specifically in Global Marine & Energy, Property insurance, onshore and offshore. I don't use this dictionary very often, but I'm glad I have it for general reference.
The definitions/explanations are good and basic, and nicely generalized so that they're not confusing how a term applies to, say, Auto vs. Offshore Package vs. Hull and Machinery vs. Home--so it's useful regardless of the particular branch or discipline of insurance you work on. If the term you're looking for is not in this dictionary, then it likely is specific to a certain speciality--Marine Cargo for instance has a host of terms that wouldn't belong in this book at all.
I wouldn't mind seeing a monster dictionary of all insurance terms, but think that's better fit for the academically inclined than the broker or underwriter.
You will need additional books for whatever your speciality is because this dictionary, rightfully, makes no attempt to be all inclusive. If it did, it would be confusing and useless to those of use who don't work in Personal Lines for example.
Very Useful for the Insurance Professional Newbie .......2007-06-02
I find this a pretty complete reference book for someone new to the insurance side such as a young or new risk manager. The definitions are fairly indepth but still short and to the point. To critique the book severly, as some other reviewers have, I suggest reccommending another reference source, within your review, that is considered better. I would be most anxious to take a look at it since it would allow a fair comparison.
Not worth the money; filled with non-insurance-related terms.......2007-05-23
A better name for this product would be the Long-Winded Financial Terms Dictionary. Its pages are filled with non-insurance-related definitions for accounting, legal, and other financial-service terms. Worse yet, several key insurance-related terms that have come into existence in, say, the past century are not included. The only thing I have ever used this book for is to cite the author's claim that U.S. citizens spend more money on insurance than any other type of expenditure - but that occurs in the preface. The terms themselves are unhelpful and incomplete, and the book's pages are stuffed with filler.
Very Helpful!.......2006-01-30
The insurance industry has its own language. I have yet to come across a term that is not in this dictionary!
