4 out of 5 stars Great conversation starter.......2007-07-03

Find Me: How Psychic Detectives from Around the World Have Banded Together to Find Missing People

I teach spiritual development classes and i use ths book for some of the beginnings of classes and workshops, to help people get to know each other. It has lots of great exercises.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2006-07-26

I work in a school and this book has already helped me plan several fun activities for teachers, directors, and students. I highly recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars Well written and has good variety........2006-07-14

While many of the activities might suit a business, I was able to find quite a few for small groups in our church. The instructions are thorough and handouts are well done. My only suggestion for the publisher would be to make the book so the pages could be torn out and put in a three ring binder.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Residence Life staff.......2000-07-03

There are few books on icebreakers/teambuilders that I've found to be useful with college students ( I work in Student Affairs). This book, however, offered many activities that were useful not only for just 'breaking the ice' but also for applying them to the many educational workshops we do in this field. There was also a very helpful section called "Icebreakers for the Non-Icebreaker types" that was both interesting and practical. Because I work with such a diverse range of students, I struggle to find icebreakers that are not geared solely to the extroverted-types. This collection gives a number of activities that are beneficial to teambuilding while respecting the different learning/interaction styles we see in our students. Out of the 201 offered in the book, I have found at least 180 of them that I will use as integral parts of the next staff training. This book also offers activities for groups ranging from 8 participants (good for small staffs) to 400 participants (good for all-hall activities)!

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2000-06-29

It was disappointing to find so few ideas for a group of 100 business people who don't know each other. Most of the activities are far too personal for such a group, involving sharing personal information or touching. In addition, many of the activities have no "closure": they simply end, leaving us to wonder, what was the purpose of THAT? Many of the activities would be fine for very informal gatherings where being silly (marching in a parade, charades, making a human octopus) and getting personal are appropriate. But business people--even my lighthearted group--expect some degree of professionalism and purpose associated with such activities.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The BEST TRAINING KIT........2007-03-20

People interested in buying this book must know it is out of date. It was released in the age of Windows Server 2003, without service pack one. So it does not cover WSUS, but SUS. It also does not contain information about SP1 improvements and now SP2, however, it is a book about planning and implementing security strategies, which makes it a book above the time.
If you have money and are interest in security, or if you are intended to pass the exam, buy this book.
The text is clear and comprehensive. The content is pretty amazing which demonstrates de knowledgement of the author about what he writes. Such knowledgement is provenient from his experience working with Windows in exposed environments.
This is not only a theoretical guide of security, but also a practical one. The excercises hep you to understand and record it in your mind.
Finally, buy this book.

5 out of 5 stars A must..........2006-08-21

I haven't read this yet. I'm still going through the XP book, but if this one is even close, this book is a must. An easy read and well laid out. The accompanying CDs are very beneficial also.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent guide.......2006-02-14

Any book from Tony is probably going to be good. This book is no exception. It is very well written and organized. It covers all aspects of Windows Server 2003 security. It is not quite comprehensive as you'll need the earlier 2003 Server books (or know those topics well enough) to fully cover the test. It includes good chapter summaries and practice labs. This book will also be useful to you as a reference after you have passed the exam.

5 out of 5 stars Best study guide I've read yet.......2005-08-10

This book is an excellent resource and preparation for the 70-299 exam. I've read through a lot of exam books over the years and this is the one that prepared me the best. Upon finishing this book, you feel as though you really understand the material, rather than feeling that you still have holes in your understanding, as you often do with other books. This book is comprehensive, well-laid out, and has a lot of good practice questions in the book and on CD. Microsoft Training Kit CDs are often quite meaty, and this is no exception. I highly recommend this book.

3 out of 5 stars Did I read the same book as these other reviewers?.......2005-07-13

This book offers good coverage in some areas and fairly weak coverage in others. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this book should have been marketed as a study guide and not a training kit. It does contain some good to know nuggets of info, however it is far from being a complete guide on security, or preperation for the exam. I bought the book based on the reviews I read on this site and will be returning it. I can only guess that the previous reviewers work for MS Press.

On the 13th page of this book the author mentions how important the steps of kerberos authentication are, after giving an incorrect explanation of them and telling you to memorize them for the exam. (steps 1-3 are incorrect. check pg.245 of the Active Directory Technical Reference for an accurate description) Like most of the self-paced training kits from MS Press there is a certain lack of depth to the information in this book. There is alot of pertinent security information missing from this book both for the exam, and more importantly for securing a network in real life. The book seemed more like a conglomeration of useful facts for the exam than a "training guide".

A much better book in this arena is "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 PKI and Certificate Security" by Brian Komar with the Microsoft PKI Team -MS Press

I would also recommend the Windows Server 2003 Active Directory technical Reference. -MS Press

The two of these books combined will give you a complete and accurate base of information to pass this exam, and several others.

Full of major errors, check the following link for the corrections to this book if you are unlucky enough to have purchased it. I hope the authors and the people who gave it the microsoft stamp of approval before being published have been fired! I am an MCSE in 2000 and 2003 with over 9 years of experience and have found this to be the lowest quality study material from Microsoft yet. [...]

1 out of 5 stars Not a good test prep.......2007-01-06

Not all Microsoft Press books are equal. This one is difficult to read, overly complicated and poorly organized. I stopped studying with this book and switched to a CDROM-based video training program, which proved much better.

1 out of 5 stars The Worst Self-Paced Training Kit so far.......2006-12-04

The only reason to buy this book is to get a evaluation copy of Exchange Server 2003 software. I had Chapter 14 lessons 4 & 5 missing from the book.

1 out of 5 stars Very poor!!.......2006-08-15

I wouldn't waste your money. I am only on chapter 2 and the mistakes in here are stacking up. Spelling mistakes, incorrect information and questions that say to pick an answer from a to g with the correct answer being h make it far from the ideal book to build your confidence or knowledge.

4 out of 5 stars Nice.......2006-06-12

I've just bought the book from amazon, and first of all what I can say about it is that it's very cheap comparing if I bought it here in portugal. the price here is around 83 dollars, so I could almost buy 3 books with that money. really, buying from abroad is much more pleasant than buying in portugal... As for the book... well, better wait for it! :D

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A must read for training and presentations!.......2007-09-09

Robert Jolles describes all of the steps in running your own workshops and seminars or working in the training department. Writing your own book. Developing a process of training that helps the trainer and the audience. Visual aid management. Trainee evaluation. All of the steps are in a simple, easy to read book. There are also parts of the book that will help develop and improve skills for sales professionals.

5 out of 5 stars to-the-point and well structured.......2007-03-12

The book is practical, clear and well written. The writer is clearly very experienced in the field. I like his matter of fact approach with a dry sense of humour.

1 out of 5 stars Not as helpful as the title suggests.......2006-07-05

I bought this book hoping to learn one new thing - I don't want 'tricks' or 'secrets' and I don't need to impress anyone - just facilitate seminars which are effective and enjoyable for the participants. I searched for an idea, process or new way of thinking that I could use, modify and apply in my own work. Sadly, it wasn't there for me. The style and content is not consistent with the title. The style is over-confident - the "know-it-all" style, characteristic of some American texts. The author presenting his opinions as fact. There's no doubt, no alternatives, just do it my way and it will be 'right'. Apart from this approach, some of the content is unhelpful at best. For example his comments (opinions) on how to prepare and use visuals in presentations reiterates the worst habits - more bullet points! As the title suggests the author is writing for people who already know something about this well-worn subject, I would have appreciated buying something more original, less emphatic and better written. I regret buying it.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ FOR SALES TRAINERS.......2004-05-19

From Joe Catal, author of the book "Telesales Tips From The Trenches".
As a national sales trainer who teaches people how to sell by phone, this book is an incredible read. There's a huge difference in telling someone a sales technique and teaching that technique. The book covers every situataion you may encounter and answers it on a psychological and practical level. I consider myself a very good public speaker and my evaluations normally come back as excellent. After reading this book, I had to rate my seminar a C+. If you've been struggling with your training this book will be a Godsend for you. I'd like to personally thank the author for teaching me the right way to give a seminar. This is a must read, and I'd be shocked if you read this book and your seminar didn't improve 100%.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST!!!.......2004-01-26

After receiving this book I read it straight through in 2 days. Absolutely the best information for any trainer. Robert does a tremendous job of detailing just about everything a trainer needs to know. I highly recommend this book. I also purchased 2 other books at the same time - I probably won't even read those now. Get it - you WILL enjoy it!

The active training method which turns the spotlight away from the instructor and put the emphasis on the learner has emerged over time as a proven and reliable method for enhancing involvement, learning, and change. The third edition of Active Training, provides a thorough introduction to the core principles of active training design and delivery and includes a wealth of examples, tips, and techniques. The book has been revised to reflect the latest trends in workforce training and key sections, such as assessment and evaluation, have been thoroughly updated. 5 out of 5 stars Active Training.......2006-11-10

This book is an excellent supplement for teaching employee training and development as a course. I'd recommend combining it with Noe's text (Employee Training and Development) for a college or graduate level course on this subject. The book is also a good stand-alone reference for teaching aspects of active training to a firm's curriculum development staff.

5 out of 5 stars Activate Your Training.......2006-10-07

Mel Silberman is the master of active training. Just skimming his book gave me a handful of new ideas I applied to my training. Reading the book helped me to revamp my training courses to include many more participatory training exercises.

Everybody loves being involved, talking, interacting, and exploring during training. Lecture, however, is too often the default methodology. In some ways lecture takes less time to prepare and is less risky, but is it more effective learning? In this day and age, linear, slow, from-up-front training just isn't effective. Instead, shift over to active training that engages and empowers participants to learn rather than be taught. I'm reminded of Winston Churchill when he said, "I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught."

Silberman gives idea after idea of how to spice up lectures, or better yet, replace them with other a dozen other learning methods that actively involve the participant. The 100+ exercises and examples in Active Training makes it easy to incorporate non-cheesy learning activities that really work.

Wake up your participants! Get active.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2003-03-01

Great book with plenty of practical comments and ideas which allow you to design a truly active session that both, your audience and you, will enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars The best book in training i have read since i am training.......1999-11-03

I have pleasant meetings with you book Active Training at the last weeks. I am very impressed from it. The book is the best book that has been written about active teaching and learning. The book taught me new active ways as well. The book could help you diagnosis your faults at training and remind you what you forget to do. The book is very friendly. Active Training make it clear that you can be the best trainer if you just work for it. "Active leaning" might hurts but it helps you to grow. I am very grateful about the adventures. The book function like a mirror that tell you where your lipstick is not polished , so you can correct it. The book gave me new insights even I am teaching for 10 years already . The book is like a mentor If you like you can give your hands and travel at a virtual exelent training class.

    Book Description

Imagine infants free from painful diaper rash, new parenthood without thousands of dollars wasted in diapering costs, toilet training that is natural and non–coercive, and, most importantly, happier babies and parents. As Christine Gross–Loh reveals in this progressive, enlightening book, all this is possible and more. Infants are born with their own methods of communicating their need to "go" just as they communicate hunger or sleepiness.

Sudden restlessness, squirming, arching of the back, and vocalization ... all infants display these common behaviors. But what parents may not realize is that these seemingly random actions have a purpose and meaning. Using the tenets of Elimination Communication (EC), Gross–Loh, a mother of two children who were diaper–free at eighteen and fifteen months, respectively, teaches parents how to identify and respond to their baby or toddler's natural cues. Unlike the extreme approach of some parenting books, The Diaper–Free Baby addresses three categories of parents: Full–Time, Part–Time, and Occasional EC'ers. Parents can practice EC as much or as little as fits their family and lifestyle–even busy or working parents and their babies can benefit from the book's techniques.

5 out of 5 stars Great read, great idea!.......2007-10-17

Although my baby isn't born yet, I really loved all the ideas in this book. Before I knew there was a whole diaper-free movement, I knew there must be an alternative to diapers...who would want to sit around in one of those all day?? I was really happy to find this...it makes a lot of intuitive sense. Of course, I don't know whether it'll work for me yet, but I'm trying to read all the baby manuals I can while I still have time! I'd definitely recommend this one.

    5 out of 5 stars A great "mainstream" book.......2007-10-08

I have read two other diaper free/infant potty training books, and I found this one to be the most readable and "mainstream". I definitely enjoyed the other books, too - but this is the one I would recommend to other people to read. It's a great first book on elimination communication, and it has tons of practical advice - what products you might want and where to get them, lots of anecdotes from other parents who have been through the process.

5 out of 5 stars The best EC book out there, hands-down!.......2007-10-03

When I first heard about EC, I immediately wanted to read more about it, so I bought Ingrid Bauer's "Diaper Free!" since it was the most well-known EC book. She scared me so much with her preachy, holier-than-thou, all-or-nothing tone that I thought EC was not for me. Also, her other crunchy ideas about parenting are so different from most modern moms I know - I just couldn't relate.

Thankfully, I found "The Diaper Free Baby" soon after, and am fully on board with EC again. It is down-to-earth, non-judgmental and oh so practical. I love how Christine takes all the pressure off, and is so gentle and warmly encouraging. You never feel guilty for anything you have done or will choose not to do. All moms have different philosophies and come from different backgrounds, and she always takes that into account by providing different options so you can make EC work for you.

After reading this book, I am so excited to try EC (from birth!) with my next baby. If it were not for Christine's reassurance that part-time and occasional EC is just as good, I wouldn't even consider it. I hope everyone considering EC can get a copy of this book - it's honestly the best EC book out there.

5 out of 5 stars Great for beginners.......2007-07-31

I highly recommend this book, especially to people who are just getting to know this method, as an alternative to the "Infant Potty Training" by Laurie Boucke. It is pleasant to read, easy to understand, and contains practical advice on how to start potty training at any age. The book describes how to encourage your baby to "stay in touch" with his or her own body, which makes potty training easy at any age, even if you choose to wait until the more conventional potty training age of 2/3/4. As opposed to the Laurie Boucke book, this one takes a more moderate and mild approach to the issue, with the same successful results, and I think, this book is much more practical from the point of view of modern american parents than any other book on EC I have read.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to Understand.......2007-07-22

It is a wonderful explanation of what, how, why, etc. She also does not judge if you don't want to or do, or whether you do it full time or part time, or expect babysitters to do it or not. She gave good instructions for any situation. There are chapters for newborns, mid-infancy beginners like me, or how to put the theory to use on toddlers and older babies. She totally doesn't talk trash about diapers and in some instances promotes them.

I was pleased and was glad that I wasn't reading a bunch of stuff about "Diapers are bad because blah blah blah" but a good explanation that was in terms I could understand and relate, and she had pictures! Of real babies, not just sketches. That is also helpful because I never did well with boring diagrams.

    Just sharing.

Excellent quality and turnaround time, received when promised. The games are fun, and not immature for adults!

    1 out of 5 stars Patronising rubbish.......2006-11-04

It's strange how so many businesspeople I meet tend to be right-wing, anti-communist and great believers in personal freedom, yet run their businesses like Stalin's Russia. Workers are motivated by a mixture of fear and ambition and any individual opinion that deviates from the party line is seen as a threat.

I'm a manager. All I ask of my staff is that they're honest, work hard and treat everyone with respect. That's it. For my part I give them a clear idea of what I expect and make sure that they have the tools to do the job and receive recognition of their achievements. What I don't do is mess with their heads.

This book is symptomatic of a trend in management culture where it is not enough to ask people to do their jobs well, we now have to re-engineer their souls. The aim of this book is to motivate staff with 'fun' activities in staff training sessions, but the reality is intrusive and patronising. One game invites workers to mention a childhood achievement that they were particularly proud of and then get other members of the team to discuss it. Well, I believe in personal freedom and part of that is not feeling obliged to talk about personal things in a work setting.

Chairman Mao had his 'Cultural Revolution' and this smacks of the same attitude. It's not enough for people to do as they're told, they now have to have the right attitude and if they're not willing to be team players, they're out. It's like 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'.

Buy this book to find out how emotionally dysfunctional people struggle to motivate teams and get it horribly wrong.
