1 out of 5 stars I would give it 0 stars if possible.......2006-12-19

This book doesn't discuss any strategies for passing the series 7, it basically consists of various investment tips from financial planners seems to be marketed more towards a person who is looking to invest.

2 out of 5 stars Waste of Money.......2005-11-27

save your money and buy a book that really intent to help you on your Series 7 test.

1 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY FROM THIS BOOK.......2005-02-03

This book is completely useless. This book could be useful for someone with no prior knowledge on investing BUT it's very unlikely as the person who wrote this book had typos throughout the book. I have a problem with buying a book that says "Series 7 exam prep" and discusses nothing about the exam. Not worth the money spent , i wouldn't even buy it used. PAGE 66 ...the word on the first paragraph should be "manage" not "mange" although at some points of this book i really thought it was in french. So useless.

1 out of 5 stars Total Waste of Money.......2004-10-25

This book is absolutely useless. The information provided is not connected in any relevant way to the Series 7 test and does not give any more insight into 'thinking like a stockbroker' than would a copy of Barron's or the Economist. In fact, go buy the latest issue of Barron's, save $15, and get a lot more articles. You can feel almost immediately that this book was made simply to cash in on anxious Series 7 test takers. You do not need this book; it is an expensive and unnecessary way to acquaint yourself with information otherwise available.

5 out of 5 stars The Most Unique Series 7 Book- A Must Read!.......2004-03-19

This is a great addition to your Series 7 test prep materials. It is unlike any other book available. I highly recommend reading this book!

    Book Description

Business Intelligence is emerging as the world's hottest new management tool. Companies now are setting up Intelligence Systems that operate like corporate radars: they monitor the external environment to alert management to whatever may be happening up ahead before it would otherwise be visible. Business Intelligence Systems help companies monitor competitors, customers, suppliers, markets, and those key trends and development in science, technology, economics and politics directly relevant to the company's unique strategic objectives. This book, authored by a top-level Reagan Administration Intelligence official - the man widely credited with being the first senior US official to project the Soviet Union's collapse -- shows how businesses can use the ideas and methods of intelligence to set up "corporate radars" that will give them a competitive edge in today's global, ferocious, information-rich business environment.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Managers.......2006-12-22

This book is on my MUST READ book for managers and decision makers.

The idea that the person responsible for "intelligence" is ALWAYS in conflict with the decision maker was a real eye opener.

Conflict 1: Gathering information is a continuous process with no end result in sight. Demands for information by decision makers are usually one-time no-warning events.

Conflict 2: If the decision maker hears what he already "knows" or believes to be true, the information is of no value. To provide value, the intel person has to buck the belief of the boss. Not a prescription for career advancement.

2 out of 5 stars Simplistic and lightweight........2003-08-11

Real World Intelligence reveals no secrets. In fact I think everything the Author explains is well know and generally accepted amongst those who think about this kind of thing. To be fair this book was first published in 1987. Some of this may have been new at that time. Now it is not.

The author states quite clearly that he has no secretes to reveal in this book, so perhaps that criticism is not valid either. However he does claim to inform us of the new role of intelligence in business. Unfortunately there is remarkably little new information in this book. In a few cases the author falls into trite cheerleading. In my opinion there is very little insight into how to run a successfully intelligence operation. The author claims to have extensive experience in that realm. This book would have been improved had he shared some of those experiences.

The book is well written and offers a clear overview of the topic of open source intelligence. He also covers the role of intelligence in corporations. This role will clearly be growing. This text may be valuable as a high level overview of what intelligence is and how it can be used. The authors simplistic righting style and lightweight content make it only a basic primer.

5 out of 5 stars Do You REALLY Know?.......2000-06-10

Meyer's distinguished career includes serving as associate editor of Fortune magazine (primarily responsible for coverage of the U.S.S.R.) and then as special assistant to the director of the C.I.A. and vice chairman of the C.I.A.'s National Intelligence Council (primarily responsible for estimates and projections concerning the U.S.S.R.). Meyer is widely recognized as the first senior government official to predict the collapse of the U.S.S.R. Upon retirement from public service, Meyer founded Real*World Intelligence, Inc. of which he continues to serve as chairman and CEO. He is widely recognized as a leading authority on competitive intelligence. He and his associates developed the world's first customized turn-key intelligence system for organizations and they now work with clients throughout the world.

There are many misconceptions about the C.I.A. For example, contrary to what many people think, only a small percentage of time and effort (about 5%) is devoted to espionage (or "spying"). Most of the work consists of obtaining and then evaluating "open-book" information. That is, information readily available to virtually anyone. There may also be misconceptions about the subject of Meyer's book, competitive intelligence. For example, that efforts to obtain the information on which it depends must necessarily be illegal, unethical, immoral, etc. Not so. As Meyer carefully explains, there is an abundance of information in the public domain which is easily (and legally) accessible. In Real*World Intelligence, Meyer organizes his material within six chapters:

The Most Powerful Management Tool of All

    The New Intelligence

    How Intelligence Works

    What Intelligence Outfits Look Like

    Intelligence and Policymaking

    The Future of Intelligence

What he offers in this book is a cohesive, comprehensive, and cost-effective system by which to determine (a) which information is of greatest importance to an organization, (b) how to obtain that information and then manage it, (c) how to convert (or upgrade) that information to intelligence, and finally (d) how to derive greatest benefit from it.

In the so-called Age of Information, it is imperative for any organization (regardless of size or nature) to establish and then develop such a system. Think of intelligence as "radar" which will enable an organization to survey and then navigate its way through totally unfamiliar "territory." Think of intelligence as a means by which to recognize critically important early-warning signs and then respond effectively to them. Also think of intelligence as a means by which to know what an organization needs to know about its competitors but, much more importantly, what it needs to know about its customers and their customers as well as what it needs to know about the rapidly-changing world it shares with them.

Anyone who questions the importance of such intelligence should ask this question: "The next time I am behind the wheel of a vehicle, what if I were wearing a blindfold as I pull out into traffic?" Obviously that makes no sense and yet many organizations are now wear a blindfold as they proceed into an uncertain future. Hence the great value to them of Meyer's book. END

Herb, one of the distinguished speakers at OSS '92, has been Vice Chairman of the National Intelligence Council, and is in my mind one of the top five pioneers of business intelligence in the United States. He started in late 1970's, and his little paperback book is both a gospel and a guide of continuing value. This book was distributed at OSS '92, and continues to be worthy of reading by senior executives who don't do a lot of reading.

5 out of 5 stars Good for life in general........2005-12-31

It is sad to say that many of the techniques in this book REALLY do help out when dealing with evil co-workers and in-laws and such. If you want people to leave you alone, but can't figure out how...try blackmail! It may not be the Christian thing to do, but it works. Just remember to keep your own nose clean, and try to disengage yourself from circumstances that require the use of such tactics.
Remember: Use this information for defensive purposes only! (or else you'll be the evil one who needs to be blackmailed)

I have never read this book but it all seems a little strange to me. Why would a book of proven tradecraft and spycraft be selling on amazon.com. It makes no sense to me. If this was really working tradecraft that the CIA didnt want destributed to the public then why would it be selling for so cheap on this site. If you are really into this stuff then I suggest that you do research on the subject or join a branch of the government that teaches you this stuff FOR FREE.

5 out of 5 stars Great book - simple describes the real world of intelligence.......2004-05-26

If you are realy believes that intelligence done by brave covert agents this book is for You . It's will break many of those myths you are believing in, You will discover that spys are recruited (!) from the target organization or even blackmailed for turning to spys AND NOT "inserted" into target organization by sophisticated covert operations. You will learn how CASE OFFICERS works, how they turn someone into spying, the tricks they use to work and cover they tracks and more more other usefull information. You will still have to find by youself a lot of other sorts of information (like surveillance and avoiding it) after you finish this book .BUT AS YOU WILL SEE YOUR POINT OF VIEW ON INTELLIGENCE GATHERING WILL BE COMPLETLY CHANGED-NOW YOU WILL SEE THING THROW ALMOST PROFFESIONAL EYES. I didn't mean that this book will replace 3 years of training in intelligence agency (like CIA or the Mosad), I mean that after You will finish this book You will discover how those agiences really works , and real word is differnt from the movies. It's good point to start , to open Your eyes after many years watching catoons abouts brave covert agents that spying the bad guys ...

    5 out of 5 stars Bought 2 more copies.......2003-07-20

This book does contain the real secrets beind how the spy trade works. On the news you often hear that a piece of information can't be declassified because it would give away the ways & means used to collect intellgence by the agency. This book contains those ways & means. Fear, lust and greed, exploiting human nature. How to find someones thumb screws and force him or her to become a spy for you. Spying is a dirty, dirty business; someone you've known for 20 years can turn out to be your worst enemy. As the old saying goes "Your worst enemy is always a friend."The author of this book also has another one titled HOW TO RUN A SAFE HOUSE. Again, packed with great information. These books do contain dangerous information if looked at from the right perspective. The 911 hijackers used the exact information contained in these books to set up shop, plan the job, operate safe houses, etc. all right under the noses of the FBI.Remember, a terrorist doesn't see himself as a terrorist. He sees himself as a secret agent. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn the spy-craft tricks-of-the-trade.

if you believe the "man"! While my experience truly rests killing off a different form of "bugs", this book does provide a useful overview of the field of electronic pests. I've recommended it widely within our professional guild. The author is careful to present a mix of common tricks that are really simple (for example, just leaving a tape recorder running in the room), but still shows how this can be extended into the 21st century.

An intriguing book. Rather too detailed (but don't give up -- it's full of good stuff). A good reference for managers on how to run a business by maintaining excellent rapport with one's employees (Marcus Woolf style) and an excellent example of professional ethics (again, Marcus Woolf style towards his moles). Some amazing ideas by the East German intelligence, e.g.Romeo agents, are described.

    Book Description

John-Hughes Wilson is a recently retired Colonel in British military intelligence. He reveals how intelligence is the hidden hand behind major events, from stunning military victories to disasters like Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

It soon emerges that the Cold War spying game, as depicted by John Le Carre, has been going on for centuries. Almost every devious trick used by the KGB or the CIA would have been familiar to Francis Walsingham, Queen Elizabeth I's intelligence chief. He trapped Mary Queen of Scots in a conspiracy that lead to her execution: a brilliant operation that involved breaking Spanish codes, torturing their spies and turning many into double-agents. His methods, and his conviction that 'the end justifies the means', have been shared by successful intellig4ence chiefs from Roman times t the present day.

He argues that Military Intelligence - not prostitution - is the world's 'oldest profession', but the two often overlap. From the prostitute in Jericho who hid Joshua's spies to the infamous KGB 'honey traps' that ensnared CIA agents, politicians and businessmen, ladies of the night appear with salacious frequency in the story.

I was thoroughly disappointed. The book would have been a much, timely treatment of events occurring today. The Cold War is over but there is a new threat amongst us: can the Intell-Defense powers be just as active to crush this new enemy? It would have been an interesting book. The author is often found waffling due to lack of material and sometimes even relating historical items inaccurately.

This book is an excellent book on the application of Neural networks to the financial world. This is a collection of articles for the knowledgeable in the area of finacial investments and Neural Networks. With this in mind this book constitutes an excellent reference book to any graduate course in any finance dept to apply intelligent decision making to financial estimates and investments. It is a reference book for all those out there who are thinking about doing research in this area. Both authors have written lots of publications in the area and that is a plus. Even though this book is getting to be little bit old, a new book coming out by the by the same first author and the same company seems to be an updated review on the subject and promises to become a reference too. Excellent refence!

        Book Description

There exists quite a vast literature on mobile robots, covering fundamental principles on motion control and path-planning in indoor environments using ultrasonic/laser transducers. However, there is a scarcity of books/collective documents on vision based navigation of mobile robots and multi-agent systems. The book fills this gap and attempts to develop interesting models for vision based map building in indoor and outdoor environments, precise motion control, navigation in dynamic environment, and above all multi-agent co-operation of robots. The most important aspect of this book is that the principles and models introduced in the text are all field-tested, and thus can readily be used in solving real world problems, such as factory automation, disposal of nuclear wastes, landmine clearing and computerized surgery. Primarily meant for graduate students and researchers in robotics, the book is equally useful to interested audience of any discipline for its contents and simplicity in presentation style.
