the Germans were human too.......2007-04-26
Higgins turns the characters upside-down; good and evil are not always where we would think to find it. Yes, the Germans were human too. The characters are very real and convincing. He claims that 50% of the story comes from true accounts. I highly recommend this read.
A movie by the same name was made shortly after this novel came out. It is about a failed plot to capture or kill Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Himmler of the Nazi SS gives orders for a plan in which a group of highly trained paratroopers land on the coast near a small town in the U.K., then move inland for the assault.
Before the Germans could breach the town, two operatives were placed there months in advance. One an elderly spy, the other a young Irishman sent to gather up arms for the assault. The Irishman ends up befriending the townspeople, then later the German paratroopers rescue a boy from drowning.
Wish you well
Scott
Brilliant Book!.......2007-02-04
As one who loves history, I must say that this book is a great thriller, gives you a "feeling" of history, and is a *must* for anyone who is interested in the history of WWII, and is looking for fiction books regarding that period.
The phrase "can't put it down" usually express one's positive impression from a book he read, meaning he enjoyed it very much. Higgins "The Eagle Has Landed" gives this pharse its' literally meaning: you really can't put it down! time flies, hour by hour, and you read page after page, thrilled to know what happens next...
It's my first Higgins books ever. Now I know for sure I'm going to read his other novels. Bravo!
Best War book yet!!!!!.......2006-12-05
A world war two book that captures the mind of all readers!! Noone ca forget about when their not reading it!! Max Radl never disobyed his master, the Admiral. But his loyalty to the Admiral is only outdone by his loyalty to the Fhurer. So when Hitler starts to think anything is possible, he decides that someone should capture Churchill! The Admiral tells Radl to forget about it ( something that the Fuherer is soon to do). But soon believes it is possible and tries it!! This book combines love and action into one!!
Classic WWII Thriller.......2006-09-16
There are two titles I consider the blueprint of the WWII thriller genre. One is "The Eye Of The Needle" by Ken Follet and the other is "The Eagle has Landed". They were written decades ago and they stand the test of time. Everything else written afterwards mimics or copies out of these two masterpieces.
This is an "edge of your seat" a mile a minute thriller. But Higgins also does a fantastic job recreating Europe on the war era. The characterization is top notch. Every single character is alive; we get to know them and the motives that trigger their actions. We are familiar with them and we want to know, we need to know what is going to happen to them next.
If you like this type of genre this is a must in your library.
MY FAVORITE AUTHOR.......2006-07-19
I have five authors whose books I read as soon as they publish them. Jack Higgins, Robin Cook, John Grisham, Michael Crichton, and Mary Higgins Clark. Out of these authors, if I have to pick one to be my favorite, then the choice would be Jack Higgins. I got hooked by reading "A Season in Hell". The Eagle Has Landed is the second Higgins book I read. Without any doubt, it was awesome. From Chapter 1 to the end, it was fast pace, action packed, page turner. I read the book in one day. The main characters were well developed and even the group chemistry was there. Also, it was written in neutral where you could root for either sides (just the people in the book). The actions were fast and furious and you can't wait to find out how the book is going to end (other than knowing that Churchill won't die). You will love the German officer and Liam Devlin who will play major roles in Higgins other books. I know the review was vague, but I did not want to give away any of the storyline (Sorry). However, I suggest you read this book. If you like it (which I am sure you will), then follow Devlin through other books by Jack Higgins. You will not be disappointed. I read it three times already. Hope this helped!!!
Book Description
David McNally, peak-performance consultant to businesses and author of
Even Eagles Need A Push, returns with an inspiring and timely look at a problem faced by more and more of us. In today's dynamic global economy, the old rules for how to succeed--indeed, how to even stay employed--have been radically changed. The restructuring and re-engineering of our workplaces demanded by the new landscape of technology, international competition and communications now requires us to apply the lessons learned by organizations to our own professional and personal lives; what's needed now is a restructuring and re-engineering of ourselves.
Combining a highly readable blend of a seminar's worth of exercises, research-driven insights, and inspiring stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, David McNally guides us through seven chapters, each illustrating the attitudes and behaviors needed to navigate this new world of work.
The Eagle's Secret teaches us how to trust ourselves and find the strengths that allow us not only to survive, but thrive.

Learning to be a Thriver!.......2001-01-07
Unlike the author's earlier book, Even Eagles Need A Push, this book is about survivors and thrivers. The Thriving Inventory at the start of the book is an exercise well worth doing honestly. The score will give some perspective to your level of thrivership. The rest of the book is devoted to each of the seven components of thriving. To find value from the book, it would be useful to do all the exercises in the book. The book is an excellent workbook to discover more about yourself, your capability, talents and view about life. A useful companion to the author's earlier book, Even Eagles Need A Push.
Great for high school students.......1999-02-02
I had my technical writing class (11th-graders) read this book--they loved it and thought it was very worthwhile. It was a great springboard for discussion.
A timely life "tune-up.".......1998-08-24
Like most people, I let the day to day issues of life sweep me away. As a longtime student of spirituality, I know better than to get into the chaos and negativity around me. But alas, I'm human. It requires constant discipline to move from participation in dysfunction to focusing on what we really want for our lives. When I read David McNally's first book, EVEN EAGLES NEED A PUSH, I found it to be just what I needed to get through a difficult divorce. Now, I'm again in life transition, considering a radical career change and possible cross-country move. I'm blessed to have found THE EAGLE'S SECRET. It is almost as though this book was written especially for me. We all need to be reminded that although we don't have control over the circumstances around us, we DO have control over our thoughts. I'd like to make this book mandatory reading for everyone who is still breathing!
I used up two magic markers while reading this book........1998-07-11
When I was given a copy of the Eagle's Secret by a friend, I was in the midst of a professional crisis. My marriage had deteriorated because I didn't give enough time to my family. Despite the excessive amount of time I spent working, my company suffered financial setbacks that provoked a hostile takeover - with no job security for me. Wile I was in a deep depression, I received this book. Even though I had not been open to "self-help" before, I thought I had better read it anyway. It became my companion out of the darkness and has since helped me to gain balance and renewed optimism about the future. Whether you are in crisis or just trying to live life more fully, make sure to read The Eagle's Secret.
This book touched my heart and restored my faith........1998-06-19
For anyone struggling with the turbulance and stress of life in the 1990s, this book is full of helpful advice and insprational wisdom. I enjoyed the author's autobiographical references which gave me the impression that we were side by side in the trenches, working thins out together. This is also a very clear, readable book that does not try to make simple concepts difficult. It is a that works for anyone, from a teenager coping with the challenges of growing up, to a senior citizen trying to find renewal and purpose. This is sure to be a book that I will recommend and give to family and friends.

Couldn't put it down.......2007-07-21
This series has me mesmerized. I usually do a little reading before I go to sleep at night. Since I started these books I've found that I have been staying up way too late because I can't put the book down. The story has drawn me in and I don't want it to let go.
A Spiritual Experience.......2005-09-15
I rarely read a fiction book, and usually skim through a lot of it when I do. However, I found myself reading every word of this book, just as I did the first book in this series, Sleeper Awaken, and enjoying every minute of it. Samuel Sagan presents a world filled with wonder and brings his characters to life in a way that made me believe they were real, no matter how fantastic their forms. And I found myself caring about them very much, sharing their joys and woes throughout the book. I was deeply touched by the tender love between Szar and Eliyani and highly recommend this book be read by those who have stopped believing in it - love, I mean.
It's a wonderful idea that the Atlanteans might have cared so deeply about us in the future that they struggled with all of their might to preserve their knowledge for us before Atlantis disappeared beneath the sea forever.
I have ordered the rest of the books in the series, as well as Bleeding Sun, which I understand is connected with the series, and look forward to finding out the rest of the story. As some of the reviewers of the first book in this series said, reading Sagan's stories is a spiritual experience, and for me like none I've ever had from reading a book.
The mysteries continue...........2000-04-16
Sagan's stunning story telling continues with little Szar waking up further after his encounter with the Dragon. He returns to Esraim a veerry different man and his awakening takes him closer and closer to his initiation as a Master of Thunder. His love for Elyani is a story of how love for another person can be such a powerful tool of awakening for those willing to see it in that way.

Book worm.......2007-08-04
Nice illustrations, but I feel that the book leaves out too much. Perhaps I was expecting to read 10+ years of EClaw training in one volume, but did read it in one day. It sits on the shelf as a reference.
Secrets of Eagle Claw Kung Fu.......2004-12-13
Eagle claw kung fu has always been known for its grabbing techniques and this book is revealing to some extent. It would be even be better to share the remaing grabbing techniques in another book. Leung Shum Sifu might want to think about sharing his expertise on this style of kung fu through a series of books.
The Secrets of Eagle Claw Kung Fu: Ying Jow Pai.......2004-06-08
THe book does not give any practical information much. As the Title said, it only tells general information about the type of kungFu but contain not much useful information.
Don't expect to learn anything from the book.
Don't buy except you want to know what it is.
Not a book for self-defense.......2004-06-07
If you are looking for a book on self defense, you should probably pass on this one. It's got some interesting concepts, but the techniques shown would need heavy modification. Try grabbing a punch from someone who knows how to punch properly, and turning it into a complicated joint lock- that's a good way to get knocked out or worse. You can't fool around trying to look pretty when you're in real danger. I'm not knocking Eagle Claw, but this book is about all I've seen of it and it doesn't represent the effective self-defense that the style may very well have. The book looks like a forms reference for students, and for this purpose it's probably perfect, hence my giving it five stars before to calm down the students. The author's students are of course biased and they of course know the style for real. You can't blame us readers without Eagle Claw experience for thinking the art may be over complicated and ineffective, seeing the awkward stances and the false sense of distance (some pictures even showing the protagonist's strike over a foot away from the enemy). Taking a step back to block a punch with a kick, as shown in this book, is absolutely absurd. Yes, you read it right, someone throws a punch at your face and then you take a step back to block it with a high kick. Even if you don't get knocked out trying this, there's still no chance that punch will still be there when you've even finished the step. Wait a minute, with this style it looks like your're supposed to keep your punch extended so it can be kicked! Chambering your fist at your hip is a big no-no as well. I'm sure the author wouldn't want you to do this stuff in a real fight, he just seems to be representing the forms and history. I don't doubt his abilities as martial artist or teacher. The publisher is responsible for misrepresenting the book as real fighting techniques to sell it. This standpoint is where all the bad reviews come from and what the majority of customers would be concerned about.
Read this book and you will get killed!.......2003-07-27
The cover alone says it all -- no one in their right mind would punch and defend like that in a real fight! If you want to learn how to defend yourself, find a qualified instructor who knows what he's doing; otherwise, for your own sake, skip this book.

Book Description
Much has been written about the doodlebugs, V2 rockets, and other advanced technologies that the Nazis used to terrorize Europe during World War II. But there is a less well-known story: under the barrage of Allied bombing, German scientists were secretly devising plans for an incredible battery of weapons that had the potential to drastically affect the outcome of the war. There were designs for a hypersonic space plane-a manned V1 flying bomb from which the hapless pilot would eject moments after aiming his craft at an Allied target-and plans for aircraft that consisted only of wings. There were dozens of other prototypes that were technologically way ahead of their time-against which the Allies would have been helpless. Exhaustively researched and grippingly written, Last Talons of the Eagle shows how history might well have been very different had these craft ever flown.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth the paper it is printed on.......2003-10-09
I cannot believe I paid money for this book. There book is filled with factual errors and misrepresentations. I will not be so bold as to call them outright lies, but the information is wrong. I finished it just to see if it got better but it didn't. The book perpetuates myths left over from the war and more that have been fabricated since. There are no notes to check the authors' reputed "sources," the research is shoddy, and the text is laughable. This should be in the section under histical fiction - not history. As a historian I would suggest that the authors stick to sculpture and theatre (see bios)! I was very dissapointed with this book but not surprised at the content from two amateurs.
Last Talons of the Eagle.......2002-07-26
This is a great book for anyone with an interest in WW2 German technology.Europe would have been a much different place if the Nazi leadership had decided not to interfere with research and development of the German Luftwaffe. I would recommend this book as a starting point for research,or an introduction to collecting books on this subject. It is by no means exhaustive in it's coverage of German technology, but it is nonetheless a very interesting and surprising read.I gave this book three stars for the content alone, and if I have any critisism it was that it should have covered a greater range of subjects ie.Panther tanks fitted with night vision etc.,and more photos and drawings. This is a book that deserved a A4 size hardbound format but I gave a extra star for it's presentation.
An education.......2001-06-25
A well written and researched book.Packed with facts and astonishing information on Germany's, ahead of their time aircraft, and the beurocracy that surrounded them. This book certainly proves that necessity is the mother of invention. What would have happened had the German efforts come to fruition? We can perhaps only ever have an incling on how close they were to success. Heartily recomended!
Such an Interesting Book.......2000-06-17
Wow. Reading this makes me ponder the lost opportunities the Nazi's had, and thankfully squandered.
Lots of great information and photographs in the book. I suggest this to anyone interested in WWII aviation, aviation history or German air power.
A very interesting aspect to this book is that our current (I write this on June 16, 2000) stealth capabilities were all tested german aircraft 60 years ago!
Like I said, happily, they lost.
Book Description
An extraordinary history of the United States' top secret military aircraft from WWII to the Gulf War and the missions they flew.
Since 1941 the United States has produced a series of "black" airplanes -- planes developed, tested, and operated in deep secrecy. Years, even a decade or more, would pass before their existence was made public. The impact of these "Dark Eagles" has been profound. The first introduced America to the jet age. The next reolutionized the way intelligence was gathered. Another pushed aviation technology to its farthest limits. This is the extraordinary history of the Top Secret U.S. aircraft programs: including the first, XP-59A Airacomet, the famous U-2, the stealthy F-117A, and so many more.
Customer Reviews:
Fascinating Aircraft.......2004-05-10
AS an aviation enthusiast, I can tell you this book provides a great look into the world of "Black Projects", aircraft like the U-2 spyplane and the SR-71 Blackbird, many of which played an important role in strategic reconnaissance throughout the Cold War and continue to do so to this day. Included in this book are such notable aircraft as the F-117 Nighthawk Stealth fighter and the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, and their beginnings as black projects. Recommended to any aviation enthusiast.
Reader-friendly for aviation novices.......2003-01-23
As one who couldn't tell you the difference between a J57 engine and RJ-43-MA-11 ramjet, I'd still highly recommend this to any reader who wants to more about Black Projects but is leery about buying a book because they don't want to be confused by technical humdrum.
Peebles book is quite the contrary and it's very entertaining for both an aviation novice reader like myself as well as any aficionado of aircraft (a friend of mine who is currently getting his pilot's license also read it and enjoyed it). Granted, you must have a little understanding of military aircraft. If you would be unable to decipher between a P-51 Mustang and F-4 Phantom, it may be too much.
Peebles writes with colorful narrative on some of the US's most astonishing and mysterious aircraft in the last 50 years. Included in his book are chapters on the first US jet (XP-59A Airacomet), the spy plane Francis Gary Powers made famous (U-2 Aquatone), the birth of the stealth fighter (F-117A), 'borrowed' MiG's flying in the Nevada desert, reconnaissance drone vehicles, the Star Wars-like A-12 Oxcart, as well as the current Black Project plane - Aurora.
In each chapter, Pebbles writes on what precipitated the need for a new secret aircraft, how the craft took shape behind closed doors, its test flights, and how it performed in action. He includes a plethora of colorful stories on how the U-2 was named, how a US Navy aircraft carrier was 'captured' by the US Air force, and tales of gorillas smoking cigars and flying in the southwest desert.
Pebbles also goes into great detail about two controversial topics of today - Area 51 and the Aurora. Throughout the book, Peebles gives the history of Area 51, how it originated as a base at Groom Lake all the way up to the flying saucer tales of today. Conspiracy theorists will be disappointed as well as many Black Ops devotees looking for proof that the Aurora exists.
In conclusion, I thought Peebles book was a great, intriguing look into some of our nation's biggest secrets of the Cold War that's also a quick read (only 292 pages of text) and I highly recommend it.
Jump on the Bandwagon.......2002-06-25
This book is a reasonable introduction to the world of aviation 'Black Programs', but use it as a stepping stone to titles such as Ben Rich's or Jay Miller's books on Lockheed's Skunk Works.
Competent rather than outstanding
Behind the Scenes in the World of Black Project Aviation.......2001-08-20
I had picked up "Dark Eagles" primarly because it was one of very few books to present information on "Have Donut" and similar projects in which the United States tested captured MiGs and other Soviet aircraft. I was pleasantly suprised to find that the rest of this book is as superbly researched and detailed as Peebles' glimpse into the testing of foreign equipment.
Peebles discusses, in amazing detail, the developments of such famous aircraft as the U-2, A-12, SR-71, F-117, "Have Blue" and "Tacit Blue." Peebles also delves into the history of the less-glamarous unmanned platforms such as the trisonic D-21 ("Tagboard") and various models of the Model 147 Firebee, used extensively in Vietnam.
This book is a must for anyone interested in black project aviation. It is well written and thoroughly researched, and is engaging to both the causal and technical reader.
The hidden history of aviation, now revealed!!.......2001-02-14
A wide ranging historical survey of once classified material. We know we're not getting the whole story, but the author has enough to satisfy. From stolen (actually borrowed) Russian jets and unmanned space probes, to our own unmanned D-21 Mach-3 spyjets, the authors go for it all. Some of the information is pretty suprising (the mysterious Col. Tomb, thought killed in the now legendary Vietnam airwar dogfight with Driscoll and Cunningham, may have been misidentified) while other stories seem tedious (like the use of Hound-Dog cruise missiles as first generation remote spyplanes). I would have preferred the authors concentrate on the really mysterious jets (I get the sense that the authors felt they owed each story equal time), but what comes out is an eye-opener nontheless.

Hide and Seek, WWII Style.......2003-11-01
A Review by Jace
The end of the Second World War is near, and Hitler is relentless. British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, had been kidnapped by a secret Nazi spy group and no one knows his exact location. Except for one man Kurtis Steiner who is being held prisoner by the British forces. Jack Higgins enters the story as a young historian who must now find the keys to unravel the secret mysteries of the Nazi army. He is sent on a mission to Ireland to find the closest link to Kurtis Steiner, but is unknowing of what he will find. Higgins must fight his way through chambers, dungeons and ward of enemy spies and troops. Higgins is in for the fight of his life and he is bringing you along for the ride.
This book is a masterpiece. It shows the true horror of war from a different stand point. Many war books show you a view from the U.S. but this book gives you a look from the British and Nazi sidelines. It also has a truckload of suspense. I was awake at night wondering what would happen next. My head was full of predictions and guesses of who was to die next, and what was behind that door. My hair was on end through the entire story. This book also brought along enough action for everybody, and had leftovers. Higgins challenges his mind against the mind of a Nazi general and henchman. Higgins challenges tanks and specially trained troops. This book is a work of art.
I would recommend this book to anybody who has read a bond book. This novel blows good old James out of the water. It has mystery, suspense, and action. I was left with my jaw on the floor. Higgins has left his heart in this book, which makes it worth the read.
In the Eyes of the Nazi.......2003-04-08
This Historical fiction, The Eagle has Flown is a sequel to Higgins previous novel The Eagle has Landed. The novel takes place in Europe during the last years of World War II. Higgins starts the novel with an investigation regarding the attempts on British Prime Minster Winston Churchill's life. The one in specific conducted by a Nazi, General Steiner of the SS from Germany. The mission was compromised and General Steiner the only survivor jailed in a priory run by a Father and several nuns. Himmler a senior SS orders his comrade General Schellenberg to conduct a rescue of the fallen prisoner of war. General Schellenberg contacts Liam Devlin a British Nazi, who knows Nazi sympathizers in London who will help plan the release of General Steiner. The mission is to sneak into the Priory and rescue Steiner but this mission was to busy the officers while extremist in the SS including Himmler would assassinate Hitler and organize a coup. The reason the SS wants to kill Hitler is not because of the tremendous war crimes but because of his careless and contradictory plans regarding the war that were hurting the German forces.
The novel in part of Higgins is well planned out and put together. There are several concepts that Higgins touched that are factual but omitted from history books and other novels. The concepts include the willingness of the German people to stop the war and the German officers who fought to protect and honor their country not Hitler. This novel has the great ability to pull you into the book and make your mind wonder in deep optimism for the Nazi, even though they were on the wrong hand in this bloody war. Higgins after getting a taste of sequels left this novel's end in great conflict with no definite closure, he must plan to continue the The Eagle series. This novel is recommended to those who like war read and who will not stress themselves over late World War II terminology contained in this novel.

This Author Can Do Better.......2002-04-12
This was the follow up to the Eagle Has Landed. I wish he had not tried so hard to get my hard earned dollars and spent more time working on this story. I fell into it thinking it would be as good as the first and came away disappointed. I also think he has put out much better books and this one was the first to really disappoint me. The book is just an average book. This book seams rushed, almost like the author did not want to take the time to really develop either the story or the characters. Because of the light development it does not hold your attention. Overall it is just an average, light World War Two action novel that does not do him credit.
Eagle Reheated.......2001-11-20
The central disappointment of this novel was that Steiner, the sympathetic anti-hero of "Eagle has Landed," remained alive, despite him being so convincingly (and movingly) killed at the conclusion of that instalment. But nothing succeeds like success, and despite his own mission's failure his first book's success leads Steiner to have a Lazarus-like existence in this sequel. Some of the characters and sub-plots are very well constructed, and Higgins' writing style - always way above average for this gentre - carries you along as well. If you like rear-echelon British Fascists in secret partnership with the Axis, or ruthlessly unpleasant M15 interrogators, or exciting things happening with light aircraft, this is the book for you.

Customer Reviews:
UPLIFTING AND INSPIRING.......2000-09-19
In this very readable book, John Randolph Price discusses the secret school, the master teacher and the inner classroom where you can win your wings. He shares insights received from within on issues like self-realization, wholeness, the ego and the raising of consciousness individually and worldwide, also proposing ways in which the reader may write their own textbook through similar dialogues with the divine within. Uplifting and inspiring reading and contains a variety of useful meditations.
