Didn't do me any good........2007-01-09
It was a book required for my MBA course, but it speaks to what seems like common sense. Read the Wall Street Journal if you want some insight on real world strategy.
An overview of concepts used in Business Strategy.......2005-12-08
This book is a good overview of the several approaches used in the discipline of Business Strategy. It covers most of the current approaches and concepts.
Usually the major concepts are presented with sufficient detail so that it is possible to understand the basics. The concepts and tools related to strategy are put in the context that is most applicable, i.e., scenario analysis is part of Chapter 2 - Change and Uncertainty in the External Strategic Envinronment.
A good thing is that the book reduces "the marketing or hype" around some tools or concepts to its real dimension or importance, helping the practioner understand its applicability in real world situations.
I would say the book is a good introduction on the topics covered and can be used both as a starting point or an overview by an experienced person that has been exposed to a particular set of techniques and concepts and wants to complements his/her knowldedge.
Good reference for modern strategy theories.......2002-12-17
Thin (140pages), but comprehensive introduction of strategy theories from SWOT to Porter's thoughts. Best to capture the concept of Strategy.

Book Description
Zig Ziglar has dedicated his life to teaching people the art of successful living. However, he has discovered that "being successful" is only part of life's challenge. Success is very often a short-lived high. People arrive at the goal line in life, look into the end zone and discover that it contains many of the things that money will buy, but it contains very little of what money won't buy. Zig believes that yes, success is worth it, but it is not enough. The next step is to move from success into significance.
In A View from the Top Zig will teach you:
- to bring in spiritual dimention in all areas of your life
- the power of giving others a hand up, not just a hand out
- to make radical changes with minute steps
- to develop a wall of gratitude
- to combine your mission and your vision
A View from the Top will help you achieve success and significance, so when you reach the top you'll find the view simply magnificent.
Customer Reviews:
Another good one by Zig Ziglar!.......2004-10-15
SEE YOU AT THE TOP by Zig Ziglar was the first positive thinking book I ever read . . . I still remember his philosophy: "You can get anything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want."
Since then, I've read and/or heard many similar books--including just about everything else by Ziglar . . . so when I saw something new by him (A VIEW FROM THE TOP, a taped production), I jumped at the opportunity to hear it . . . my only regret: that it's been too long since I last visited with Zig.
It may take you a bit of time to get used to his folksy style, but please do stick with it . . . you won't be disappointed.
He has many worthwhile ideas to share, such as:
Success is not enough. Your next step is to move to significance.
You don't have to be great to start, but you've got to start to be great.
Read wherever you are; e.g., in a doctor's office, supermarket line, etc. Always have reading material with you.
The two most important things a husband or wife can say to each other: 1. I love you; and 2. I believe in you.
If you have a dream, don't way "no way." Instead, say, "Why can't I?"
Put your heart into something; the rest will follow.
Think about what you want your obituary to say.
You'll have real joy when you see somebody that you've helped become successful.
In addition, I liked the story he told about the success of both the Penn State and Notre Dame football programs . . . the two have more graduates on pro football teams than any other
two colleges . . . they are also the only two major colleges that don't put the names of players on the back of their uniforms.
And his story of Lou Holtz really struck home . . . when Holtz was the Notre Dame coach, 11 of his assistants left to take better head coaching jobs elsewhere . . . so what was in it
for Holtz? He felt that the best coaches not already working for him would flock to do so, and they did . . . and when they came to work for him, they would bring along their respective
contacts and help Notre Dame get even better players.
zig tries, but doesn't make it for me.......2004-04-29
zig ziglar is a well-meaning individual i can see--i guess, but he is unenlightened and speaks from both sides of his mouth. he purports to be a supporter of christianity in every way, yet is very self-righteous, moralistic and judgmental. he is the "OLD STYLE" --the very attitude which perpetuates the negative associations many people have with anything spiritual. he makes comments about other religions which would alienate people of those faiths, so, are anything but christian. i was turned off. there were parts in which i found myself crying and really enjoyed some of it, but overall it was a bad experience. i wish i would have known more detail about this and about him before i spent my money on it. zig is a popular man-which is why i ordered this audiobook- however, "what is popular is not always right and what is right is not always popular" and zig proves it. but, he's only human after all like the rest of us... i will do more research from now on, on everything i order!
A motivator with substance!.......2003-11-19
This 6 CD series is packed with life changing goodies. Zig revelas openly the pitfalls and hurts of his own life in order to show how what he is teaching is real, and something he's experienced first hand. Anthony Robbins can't hold a candle to Zig Ziglar's common sense strategies to positive life-change. Without the "giant's" hype, Zig makes plain the steps one must take to achieve your dreams and goals, not just get you excited.
Zig is unashamedly Christian. Zig makes it clear what his beliefs are, and is one of the few speakers who is enlightened enough to know that the Spiritual side of life can't be ignored if we are to be truly successful in life. Some people may not like his openness. Well stop being so narrow minded and bigoted. If you can't handle someone sharing his/her faith with you, you're not going to get far in life.
Grab this series, it will change your life.
Words of wisdom from Zig.......2003-02-16
Zig Ziglar in a more relaxed style. He goes into detail about key events that have shaped his beliefs. The ultimate motivator of people is still creating great work. WARNING: Zig has strong views and a strong deep south accent BUT if you know and love Zig this is a fantastic CD set to add to your collection.
a primitive narrow minded perspective.......2003-01-21
If there were many people who thought like Mr. Ziglar, the world would have been a lot less about freedom. We would have been judged constantly by narrow minded people for our beliefs and our way of being. I do not think this book can stimulate even a twelve year old and thank God it doesn't! We need less of these kinds lacklustre mind sets at power, not more. Here is an expression of a covertly judgmental and prejudice mind in full action.

This Book Sucks....!!!.......2005-06-01

Book Description
In View from the Top, managing partners and other top law firm executives give Vault editors their thoughts on what they wish they had learned in law school, advice on balancing work and personal life commitments, and insider tips on what it takes to succeed as an attorney.
Book Description
"View From the Top of the Mast" is a true story of the adventures of a young gal who broke the stereotyped mold of the all male world in the late 1940s and 50s by crewing on sailboats from California to Hawaii, Tahiti, and points beyond. She bought her first sailboat by weaving coconut palm hats at luaus. Lady Weldon Hedley, aka Bungy (as in bungee jumping) was raised in California right by the sea, where the sparkling blue Pacific was her private swimming pool. With her famous beachcombing dad, the family combed beaches from Mexico to Oregon. Many celebrities visited their home, which was constructed from driftwood. She met Gary Cooper, Jimmy Stewart, waltzed with Rudy Vallee, and was escorted to her senior prom by Raymond Burr. She even played a joke on Humphrey Bogart. "View From the Top of the Mast" is a humorous tale of Bungy's first twenty-two years of over seven decades of a life filled with the joy of living. Bungy says this book is dedicated to the reader who has a certain sense of adventure that is crying to get out. Buy it! You won't regret it!
Book Description
There is something gloriously childlike, adventurous, and escapist in a refuge hidden away in the trees. Here, the master builders at PearTree, architects of the finest custom treehouses in the world, take readers through their most beautiful projects, and tell exactly how it's done. Today's structures are a far cry from the small and unstable affairs that the word treehouse might conjure. These are beautiful retreats nestled in the branches. Treehouses shows just how far the idea can be taken, including offices, dining rooms, writing spaces, and whole complexes attached by rope ladders. They are designed inside and out with the best materials to offer comfort and repose and fit in with their surroundings, the tree itself becoming part of the interior. In fact, PearTree considers the future growth of the trees they use, allowing for adjustment.
For the reader who'd like to build his own place in the sky, the book gives suggestions on how to pick a tree, assess its health, and plan a structure. For those readers who prefer to dream, shots of interior and exterior, complete with wonderful views, conjure the restful sound of foliage in the breeze. The result is a beautiful book that will be visited time and time again.
Customer Reviews:
Treehouses.......2005-11-05
A beautiful book. Wow, has this author ever made the idea of the simple treehouse memorable. With personal stories from numerous clients who commissioned his firm to build some of the most enchanting homes you've ever seen, he peppers the book liberally with great observations about the rewards and difficulties inherent in some of his projects. In one case, the plans for building around branches of the existing tree proved inadequate enough that, for once, the company had to build the treehouse by proceeding intuitively as they erected the dwelling's walls.
One of the most striking aspects of the book is how *exciting* he makes this subject. Basically, this book is a beautiful picture book which also serves as an advertisement for his firm while including numerous memorable building vignettes -- and yet he was able to make me, at least, smile and wonder. After a couple pages, I stopped caring about the book's slightly self-serving nature, for this author has done what every author should hope to achieve in such a case: He has given so generously of his subject and his expertise that he makes an effective gift of his achievements to the reader. The best story in the book concerns the daughter of a client who decided to honor her mother's memory in a slightly unusual way.
A recommended book, whether for reading or for coffee table talk.
Book Description
View from the Top of the Grand Supercycle includes key essays from market guru Robert Prechter, Elliott wave analyst Pete Kendall and other media writers who were on the scene during the stock market mania from 1997-2000. Based on Prechter's interpretation of the Elliott Wave principle (an idea premised on the notion that mass investor psychology is what really drives markets), he explains why he and other Elliott wavers called the top too early and spells out the mistakes along the way - emphasizing what you can learn to help avoid those errors in the future. View from the Top also includes a forecast for the current bear market.
Experience the workings of a contrary view and see why being a lone wolf was unusually counterproductive and yet incredibly rewarding for our knowledge of market behavior.
Customer Reviews:
Bob Prechter & Elliott Waver International.......2007-07-03
Prechters view is markets peaked in wave 5 in year 2000.
Never called the bottom in 2002, and stated the
high of year 2000 would not be surpassed.
Well 7 years later the DOW has indeed surpassed the year 2000 high!
High of 2000 was ~12000, today it is nearly ~14000 !!
Listening to his advice would cost one dearly.
Not only missing out on the recent market rise, but also constantly
pushing one to take a bearish stance against the market during the
entire rise over the past 5 years, while the market was rising!

Customer Reviews:
A Solid Effort!.......2004-05-20
The good news is that this tome provides tremendous detail about its subject matter, retail banking in Europe. The bad news is that you have to really want to know a lot about this specific subject to penetrate its lack of organization and awkward writing style. The information is abundant, particularly about the past, although the book doesn't include insight about the future. European banking is full of threats, opportunities, reversals and challenges. It is subject to revolutionary reshaping by major political and economic events. Popular books don't tend to get written about such esoteric subjects unless they are post-mortems on disasters. Given that, we think this academic if thorough entry may be indispensable to people with a real need to know about the subject.
