Product Description
This introduction to IT Service Management, published by ITSMF-NL, is based on the latest edition of the ITIL books on Service Support and Service Delivery and is intended to serve as a thorough and convenient introduction to the field of IT Service Management and a selection of the books in the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), and a self-study guide that contains all the material needed to prepare for the Foundation Certificate examination in IT Service Management.
Customer Reviews:
ITIL process makes sense........2007-09-28
ITIL is hardly new, but it is surprising how many professionals in Service Management have never heard of it. I leanred of it from a colleague, and did some research. It is more or less a common sense approach to service management and delivery. What it reall does is force the IT professional to view IT in a customer business needs and expectations sense as opposed to an IT provider sense. I found this text easy to read and well laid out. The mock exam in the back is an interesting way to drive home major points, but the book itself is useful not just for people who want to pass the Foundations certification, but to those who want to view service management and delivery in a more process centric manner. I also purchased the study guide for Foundations by Ron Palmer that gives a very good conversational explanation of ITIL and fills in gaps the offical text does not.
Essential for Passing Foundation Exam.......2007-03-23
I purchased this book with the sole purpose of using it as a study guide to pass the ITIL Foundation exam, and did exactly that. The book has a consistent structure, covering the required areas of Service Delivery and Service Support functions. The price is slightly high, but from looking around, this appears to be the defacto study guide for learning the ITIL Foundation material. Highly recommended.
Excellent book to understand the ITIL basics.......2007-01-09
Excellent book to understand the ITIL basics and to clear the foundation certification. I would recommend this if your objective is to clear the certification in a short span of time. There are other books available if you want to read every process in detail.
Expensive Overview.......2006-12-30
It's a fine overview of ITIL & excellent preparation for the foundation exam. But $50 was a bit pricey (even if my boss didn't complain).
Excellent reference.......2006-11-11
I just finished the ITIL Foundation Certification class (still awaiting test results) and this book was used for teaching. The book is more clear and concise than the older version which a coworker has. Since I am in charge of one of the ITIL processes at work and wasn't familiar with the "Seperation of Duties" I really needed this book. I will use this book and knowledge gained from the class in order to Implement the process.

Customer Reviews:
Only for the newbie.......2007-10-22
Just finished the book last night hoping to find ideas that I could implement in my eBay sales. No real new info here. More geared for the eBay novice. If you have any experience buying or selling on eBay you already know 99% of the info provided in this book.
I found it odd that the author claims to have sold a 4 year old pair of very worn sneakers on eBay for $21 in the beginning of the book and then talks about it again later in the book but the sale price was $26.
Also, the author refers you to links to third party paid services which he owns.
Read this book is one sitting..........2007-10-09
What really stood out for me was the writing style of the book. It was conversational with great stories that were fun and interesting.
Along with great tips, this book is not written in the typical "textbook" format. I read the entire book in less than a day and would definitely encourage anyone to read it!
Simply a GREAT Book!.......2007-10-09
Not only was this book easy to read - the content helped me go from a new eBay seller to an advanced one. I went from 19 feedback to 175 feedback in 60 days using the techniques I learned.
I'd highly encourage anyone interested in learning more about eBay to read this book!
Great eBay book.......2007-06-14
a Gotta Have book if you are planning on starting an eBay business in your home in 30 days. Great reference for the experienced eBayer.
Garbage.......2007-06-08
This book is one big fat advertisement for Ebay and for Adam Ginsberg's other ventures. It had very little useful information, and NO information that cannot be found easily on-line or on Ebay itself. It was a waste of my time reading it. It was utterly repetitive and took forever to actually get to any sort of information or advice. There is hardly enough information in this book to fill a 10 page pamphlet...let alone a 300 page book!!! I'm just happy I got it from the library and didn't end up wasting my money as well as my time.
I wish there was actually a book out there to help people who are not complete ebay beginners. The biggest ebay woe is finding sources for products, and there is little help in this book....OH, unless you want to go to the website Adam plugs and buy more stuff from him. SURE, then he'll help you out. HA, RIGHT!

Customer Reviews:
A Solid Investment.......2007-10-17
I bought this book at the same time I bought two other books on on-line bookselling. I read this book right through, refer to it often, and recommend it to others. I never could finish the other books; they just never inspired me. In addition to the book, you get a CD which contains a series of spreadsheet workbooks with which you can do all the book-keeping for your new business. They alone are very strong value added and are worth the price of the book many times over.
But that's not all. The author has also created a private on-line bookseller's bulletin board which is accessible to those who buy his book. Over the past year that bulletin board has evolved into an important community of booksellers who share useful information with one another. My business has been transformed by the conversations conducted on that bulletin board. Just today another board member wrote the following testimonial:
"by far the best value (of an unsung variety) is when buying the book it comes with access to this fantastic board and the very kind participants who give generously of their knowledge and experience. I believe yours is the only book that offers this......"
If you consider your purchase price of this book an investment in your business, you will need a CPA to help you calculate your return.
pretty decent.......2007-10-01
this is the 1st book on the subject i've read, and there are some good points and tips...frankly, i think too much space was devoted to packing issues, and the pricing given for various supplies and services is certainly out of date, making one feel as if they're "late to the game", even though they just received the book...i'd suggest an update...
As real as it gets.......2007-09-21
Sometimes a book is more important than entertainment or mental stimulation. This is one of those books that can actually change your life. It is very readable and the information is dynamite.
Somewhat to my (delighted) surprize everything the author says panned out exactly as he said it would. Michael Mould is a no nonsense engineer who got into on-line bookselling years ago. He shares knowledge and experience in down to earth prose that helps the serious newbie make real money...for real.
Selling on Amazon is fun if you get a good grip on what the business is about before you launch. The book and CD provide that, but important details are explained too. The practical tips are abundant and useful. I made multiple times the cost of the book the first week selling on Amazon before I knew what hit me. This is truly a business you can start for little money. With hard work and a service attitude there is outstanding opportunity.
What A Time Saver !!!.......2007-04-07
Congradulations to Michael Mould for compiling an all you need to know volume to get you started in the business of online bookselling.Easy to read, complete and well organized. This book has saved me both time and money in the transition from a "Bricks & Mortar" book retailer operating 6 stores to an entirely online entity by avoiding many common pitfalls and consolidating necessary industry information. A "must read" for anyone in the same circumstances!
Excellent.......2007-04-06
The books previous high reviews were the reason I purchased this book instead of the others offered. And the book lived up to the reviews.
Written in a friendly neighbor sort of style it is chock full of what seems to be most useable information about an exciting opportunity for todays small business owner.
I would recommend this book over the others on the strength of the information given alone. And the spreadsheets on CD are an extra value worth the higher cost of this book.
Read it and learn.

Book Description
At some point in most careers one considers the idea of starting a business. Some people want to pursue a dream, some figure they can beat the boss at his or her own game, and for some people unemployment forces the issue. US Customs tells us most international traders are small businesses, and world trade continues to grow rapidly. Given the improvements in transportation and communication worldwide, inevitably now small business in USA has some international component...some more than others. Surely there is no safer investment for your time and money than self-employment. Surprisingly, for many who start their own businesses, making money is not always the prime motivator. Nonetheless, recent studies provide some remarkable information about self-employment: 80% of the millionaires in USA became so in their own career - 2/3rds are self-employed; the self-employed are four times more likely to be millionaires than others. It seems the most common career move in becoming rich is to become self-employed. This book now shows you how to build a business and takes you through the steps so you will know you can do it, and is structured so you may take positive steps after each chapter toward building your business. Surely you will finish the book before your business gets started, but by the time you finish the book, not only should you feel "ready to go", but actually be on your way. World trade is different from the domestic variety, and small is different from large business. Small Business International Trade has some specific challenges which this book illumines and solves. Starting a business is necessarily disruptive... but to what extent? Like the tennis pro who shows you how to get great improvement out of small changes, book assumes you can stand minimal disruption and risk. For those who desire to engage directly in world trade, and for those who are hired to do so, this book explains how small business trades worldwide.
Customer Reviews:
THE book on learning Import/Export.......2007-10-17
I have an interest (along with my wife) with selling specialty novelty items. We always seem to have lots of ideas but have lacked a system for getting them to market.
After reading the reviews on Amazon for this book, I picked it up How Small Business Trades Worldwide and read it cover to cover. Excellent pragmatic advice. One of the greatest parts of Spier's system is how you can test the market without investing a substantial amount of money. He provides a great step-by-step system to opening your own import/export business. Added bonus: he's got one heck of a sense of humor.
I would also recommend signing up for his online class too.
Insightful Book.......2007-10-11
I normally do not review many items, but I felt that this book was a great help in explaining all of the intricacies involved in small business trade. If you are deciding between this and other books, this clearly is the best book out there regarding international trade. I have read most of the other books on Amazon regarding this topic and in each of them they provide very little in terms of how to be successful. Additionally once you finish the book, the author is more then willing to answer any questions you might have while providing a medium in which to further your knowledge in international trade (listserv). If you want to be successful in international trade or are wondering how small businesses trade worldwide, order this book as it will provide you with a clear picture as to how to get into this field.
This book is one you must read.......2007-07-19
I purchased this book and then ended up enrolling in one of John Spiers' classes on world trade. I can not say enough good about this book and John Speirs' approach to small business. After researching many other books, courses and programs, that seemed to be nothing more than marketing schemes designed to get you to purchase some "must have" resource for an import/export business. While reading this book I feel as if I have a mentor teaching me step by step the way to succeed in small business world trade. His approach is clear and concise. The book is easy to read because it is so well written. I feel that this book has changed my thinking and strategy and has probably saved me from making fatal business mistakes.
Simple, straightforward and thorough.......2007-05-10
Thanks very much for your book. It has certainly saved me a lot of mistakes, time and money. The book is concise, well written with lots of practical information on getting your product from conception to market. More than just a basic 'importing 101' book, it includes insights and information that could only be otherwise obtained by years of hands-on experience.
A fantastic step-by-step book.......2007-05-08
I picked up this book about a month ago and I just have to say that it's absolutely fantastic. I've been looking high and low for this book and I couldn't find it anywhere until now. Most books just reiterate information you'd typically find in some weekend trading class at a local community college.
The difference between this book and other books I've read is that this book actually gives you practical advice for small businesses. It beautifully outlines the steps you need to develop your own products from start to finish. Economies of scale for most products make it almost impossible for small business owners to compete for market share. Instead, the book focuses on innovation which is a more viable option for most people.
This book has really inspired me to pursue my product and I feel more confident now than with any other book. Thanks for an awesome and informative read.

Customer Reviews:
It really is "Everything I Need to Know!" about becoming an organizer!.......2007-08-25
Wow! This book is really comprehensive and well-written... an amazing first glimpse into the organizing industry. I really like the detailed info about client interaction, like how to do assessments and handle an in-person organizing session. The Tricky Client Scenarios will surely help me in the future. I also appreciate the easy readability of the book, its friendly tone. Almost like I'm sitting down with the author for a one-on-one conversation. Great marketing tips, resource lists, and a friendly personal note emailed to me by the author. Great product and service. Thanks!
Too Vague.......2007-08-17
This book DOES have a lot of good information. However, the price is WAY to high for it and it is very summarized.
I would recommend buying How to Start a Home-Based Professional Organizing Business (Home-Based Business Series) by Dawn Noble. It sells on Amazon for around $11 and, in my opinion, is five times the book than this one. It goes into significant detail while still being an easy read.
I would've returned this book, but I had already highlighted some stuff.
In short, I would've been happier with this purchase if I had paid under $15 for this "booklet".
Love It! Love It! Love It!.......2007-04-02
I recently purchased this career book. I am beginning my organizing business and I can't tell you how much this book has helped me. What a wonderful tool! Sara has covered EVERYTHING! Love it, love it, love it! If I had to highlight certain things the entire book would be colored! Great examples, resources and advice if you are looking to begin your own organizing business. There is not a bunch of mish mash in it. As a matter of fact, when you receive the book you may feel slighted by the size for what you paid, but give it a chance, open it up and read all the terrific details and expectations covered in the manual. It's worth every penny!!
Recommended by NAPO - great for new organizers.......2007-03-30
I received this book as a gift and found it to be an excellent resource when I was starting my business. The book was easy to read with topics listed in uppercase and underlined. I loved the many resources Sara provided: books and magazines, small business resources, stores that carry organizing products, places to take donations, and a list of holidays. The sample documents were nice to use as references, as well.
Unfortunately, the book doesn't have an index. So, after reading it cover-to-cover, I have to skim the book when I want to reference anything which I find annoying.
Overall, the book is a nice resource.
must have for your business.......2007-02-28
I loved this book it wasn't filled with a million how to organize stories. It is about marketing and a true assest if you really want to start your organizing business. I had so many ideas floating in my head but this book helped me get them in one place and keep on track. I know how to organize or I wouldn't be starting this as a career so I didn't need a how to organize. I needed what Sara's book has GREAT organizing business knowldge.

Great resource.......2007-09-29
Just getting into the book selling biz. I have been going through cancer and now need a job where I can tailor my hours around all of my doctor's appointments. I like both this book and the Stephen Windwalker books. Very good information without alot of extraneous stuff.
Great Book.......2007-09-25
This a great book to help those interested in selling books online. It is very bold of Mr. Weber to enpower the competition. But it is a very smart book that will help those motivated to help themselves. I recommend it to all interested in getting online selling books.
The Home-Based Book Store.......2007-09-17
Very good book for the person who is contemplating entering this type of business. Seemed to cover most of the bases. If he didn't and I do actually go into business, I guess I'll find out pretty quickly. But, overall, since I've read a few other books dealing with this topic, I feel the author covered the subject matter well and I would recommend the book to others.
AWESOME.......2007-08-27
This is a fantastic book chock full of information. I've already started using some of his suggestions and am looking forward to having my own online used book store.

trips for trips.......2007-02-26
Step by step how to set up a or any home office or business. Would be useful for any home business. Great ideas. Worth reading.
Pages and editor missing but highly informative.......2004-09-26
I bought this book hoping to open my own home-based travel agency but decided half way through the book it wasn't really the career for me. So I received enough information to let me know that I didn't want to waste any more time pursuing a career as a travel agent. There was information on how 9/11 has negatively impacted the travel industry. It also made me realize how much more difficult it is to break into the business without negotiating with specific companies for referral commissions and that travel agencies now have to charge fees for issuing airline tickets because airlines no longer provide commissions (because most of them have never recovered from 9/11 and are on the brink of bankruptcy). I personally prefer to buy tickets directly from the airlines to avoid additional costs.
I realized that being a travel agent was going to be more effort than I was willing to put forth for what sounds like scraps - according to the authors' description of how the industry currently works.
So buy this book if you are REALLY serious about wanting to start your own travel agency but realize you may not get all of the information because of missing pages and horrible editing.
Good but..........2004-08-01
The book is really good, but it's a little outdated. I thought I was getting the most recent edition (the one issued in 1997) as this was shown as the most recent version by amazon, but there was one issued in 2003, so be sure to get that one, as without that you don't get access to the authors web site.
Great Book!.......2004-05-15
I was a "travel agent" for GTI and just didn't get the support I needed and found the benefits non-existent. But I found out that I wanted to become a real travel agent. I bought both books from Amazon.com and found How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency the best book for anyone wanting to start a serious career selling travel. The other book is good if you want to join GTI or organizations like that. I didn't find many errors in it at all.
This is the book.......2003-12-24
While there are typos in the book, How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency is an excellent book that helped me make the transition from store front to home based. After 7 years as a retail travel agent, I was forced to go home-based. I looked at both this book and the other one (Home Based Travel Agent) and found this one to represent the information necessary to make the transition. Tom and Joanie Ogg are well known and respected in the travel business and their expertise goes without rival.
Do yourself a favor, this is the book to buy.

A very cheap education, worth 10 times the price!.......2007-06-08
If you are looking for a book that will tell you what kind of corporate entity you should put your company in, this is as close as you're going to get.
The bad news is, you will still want to hire an attorney to set up the corporation for you. The biggest benefit with the book is, you will not have to have the attorney spend his time (at $200+ and hour)explaining to you what the differences are from one type of entity to the next. After reading this book, you should be pretty much up to speed, with maybe one or two additional questions needing to be asked.
So, let's review: read a book, four hours and less than twenty bucks. Listen to an attorney: one hour, $200. Having done the math, I chose to read the book. Unless your business has too much money on its hands (in which case, I'll take some of it!) all of us corporate executive wannabes should read this book! :-)
This is a good overview of corporations for individuals.......2007-05-14
I found this to be a good overview of corporations usage for individuals. It has certain tilt to using Utah corporations that may be biased by the author's home state. But the insights offered are valid business considerations. The author's views should be discussed together jointly with your accountant and attorney.
Own Your Own Corporation.......2007-03-09
I realy got some good out of this book and I recommend to anybody doing their own business.
Good job.
own your own corp........2007-02-20
Perfect for the bigger businesses, but I'm not going to need this book for a few more years. Until then, it'll sit on my book shelf and wait for me to grow. I skimmed through it and it seemed very well put together.
Good business info.......2007-02-17
Typical of Kiyosaki's Rich Dad series, this book delivers a sound business concept in an easy to read format. Kiyosaki encourages us to create corporation, specifcally Nevada based corps, to achieve our financial goals and protect our assets from litigation and our income from taxes. This book also expands on the idea of being a business owner, as in the B quadrant of the Cashflow quadrant.
I also recommend you read "The Richest Man in Babylon," by George Clason, adn "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth," by Phillip Collinsworth.

A Winning Approach Well Worth The Investment.......2007-06-08
The background context is clearly the insurance industry, with the ever present incumbent, but regardless of the product or service the competition is always close by, and the lessons in this book are applicable to all sales. Organized into eleven chapters in three sections, along with an appendix, the author explains the limitations and drawbacks of traditional approaches, how the Wedge approach is much more positive and successful, and the why. It reinforces the requirement that the sales professionals have to do their homework, know and understand the prospect's viewpoint, and ties in very well with consultative selling. With examples and method maps as training aids, easy to read, the lessons in this book are well worth studying and practicing.
The Wedge is about winning, not selling.......2004-11-14
The Wedge process works. It's a proven way to compete and win clients based on proactive services. If you're looking to move your sales force away from the death spiral of price-based competition, read this book.
Fresh Ideas on Sales.......2003-09-05
After reading The Wedge, and applying its principles to my sales presentations, I landed a rather large account that I know a competitor was also avidly pursuing. That alone makes the investment in this book worthwhile.
The Wedge focuses on taking business from your competition, by positioning yourself in a manner that distinguishes your business from your competitior. It is one of the first sales books that I ever read that focuses almost exclusively on the concept of taking business away from your competitors, as opposed to developing sales from independent leads. Given that almost every marketplace is static, with only so many entities available to buy your (or your competition's) product, thinking about and successfully executing methods that get your product before buyers who work with, or may be tempted by a competing product, not only makes sense, but is very wise sales strategy. And I can say - IT WORKS!
The Best of The Best of Insurance Sales.......2002-07-28
Books on sales are a dime a dozen. Some have a focus on a specific market while others are as general as water. If your intention is to break into the broker market or just expand your market share in Insurance, Then This Book Is For You! The book is short, precise and powerful. If you think the price is a little high for a sales book, then you do not deserve this one.
For those with the vision, the intent, and boldness, this book will increase your sales to match your goals. Good Reading.

Hooray for DUMMY Books........2007-02-26
Well organized as usual with a Dummy Book. Easy to find answers to questions. Love the idea list for home businesses. Great book.
Be Your Own Boss!.......2006-01-01
I would classify this book as more of a general overview of all the important things you need to consider before actually starting your business. For particulars you will definitely want to contact a good business attorney and a good accountant. Not to mention, you'll need to interface a lot initially with your local city/state governments to get tax forms and your business license.
This book seems to work best if you already have an idea for your business. Granted , they do throw out a few ideas for things like medical billing and place an emphasis on what could be described as services geared towards either elderly folks, or dual income families who are too busy to deal with traditional family type things. If you already kind of know what you think you want to try, this book will primarily help you fine tune your thoughts, and bring them to reality.
The section on Managing Money is probably one of the best things anyone can read. Obviously, if you're in business, the goal is to make money. By understanding the basic accounting principles presented in Part II of the book, you'll be well on your way to managing your business money wisely.
For general knowledge, my favorite part of the book was Part V. Here you will find Top 10 lists that describe common myths and pitfalls, and even success producing ideas to help you on your journey as a home based business owner. If you have a family, you'll want to take note on the section about what I would call, "The good way to set up your office." Which means, keeping distractions from the spouse and kids to a minimum while you are working at home.
There is a section on marketing, but in lieu of just that section alone, I would definitely recommend "Guerilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson. It's a very dry read, but there are a lot of interesting and unique ideas for getting word out about your business with out spending much (if any) money. And when you're in business for yourself, the more advertising you can get for free, the better!
I really like the way the authors describe how to get in to the home based business. Meaning, the idea of working at your full-time job (which you may or may not like) while you test the waters with your own venture on the side. That's excellent advice because if your business idea doesn't take off, you're not stuck without any income. Plus you can stay under your current employer's medical plan (A HUGE money saver!)
Overall there is so much information in here, it will be hard to take it in all at once. Likewise, as I stated earlier, the most important thing to remember is make sure and check with a professional accountant and lawyer in your area before/as you get started so they can help walk you through the particulars in your area. Every city and state is different in terms of setting up a business when it comes to taxes and getting your license.
Bottom line is, if you are semi-seriously considering starting a home based business, do yourself a favor and pick up this book and read it through. You'll get some good advice and knowledge on what it takes to be your own boss. Of course the other thing you can do is, talk to other small business owners in your area. Take them to lunch and learn as much as you can from those who are successful small business owners.
Home-Based Business For Dummies.......2005-07-26
I think this book is great, concise, and entertaining. It is just what I was wanting to know.
The obvious choice for anyone starting a home based business.......2005-06-22
Paul Edwards shares his great knowledge in yet another book to help anyone start thier own business. This book will answer every question you can come up with and answer it in a way that is easy for anyone to understand. This is why it will help you to become successful. I highly recommend this book, it has great tips, information and ideas to help you start and run your own home based business successfully.
Michelle Dunn, Author
Another home-base business book from the Edwards.......2005-03-18
Working at home seems like a dream for many. The Edwards have written several books on working on home. Their advice is sound and filled with common sense. However, this book does not rate a 5 because it is lacking in details about individual businesses you can start at home. They do have other home businesses books, as I stated. These are filled with 3-5 pages at the most on some individual businesses, but does not go too far into details about each, obviously. But for an overview of starting a home-based business at all, this is a decent book.
