Curious.......2004-03-16
Does it seem strange to anyone that all of the 26 reviews for this book sound exactly the same? Almost like the same person wrote all of the reviews.......or coached others on how to write them.....hmmm...
Motivational and definitely life changing.......2002-11-30
I've ready many books on how to get the life you want but by far this is the best yet. Easy to read, there's little exercises to do to get you thinking and she even provides ideas for making more. Brilliant. If you know you're not living your best life, then this book will really get you going in the right direction with motivation. Get it!!!
Great Book! Very Impressive!.......2002-03-02
I have read a lot of books on how to be successful--from these books I learned it takes hard work to make money. But what about life? Having a balanced life yet still making lots of money seems impossible--from all the reading I had so far.
Then when I pick up this tape I was really suspicious. After I listened to the 1st tape, I absolutely LOVE it! Absolutely fantastic! I found myself talking this to myself (happily): Paraphrase: Do what you'are best at (your "brilliance") and "Laser day/support day/free day" building momentum theory, 80/20 focus phylosophy (this is not new, but it's nice to hear it from a different person again in a different way of explanation), delegate, duplicate, saying no (I said no to a meeting that does not let me focus on my brilliance--yes, I'm so happy!!!), when is enough for adding value(talking about a sincere wise phylosophy!!), free up space and time to focus on your brilliance, write journal. All in all, it confirms my own beliefs that when you have a life besides work you can sustain your brilliance better than overly working. I haven't finished the tape now, I'm on Innovation now. She said most of people think they are not innovative. But you are, everybody are. If you think you are, you are! Using a new way of doing things better, that's innovative! You don't have a dead soul...
Some of the suggestions are not new, a few examples are not that convincing, yet, those are so minor!!! Nobody or no book/tape is perfect--this tape are exceptional!
The Answer.......2001-11-10
If you keep asking yourself, how can I make more money, how can I can have more time, how can I do more things that I enjoy - then this book will give you the answer you are looking for. I have read dozens of business/career books and not until I read this book did I say to myself "Oh, of course, that is what I should do". In fact, I look at my life now as pre- and post- Work Less Make More! You should buy enough copies for all your friends and family.

Book Description
Building Team-based Working is designed for use by managers and consultants who are introducing team-based working into organizations. The book synthesizes knowledge about how to build team-based organizations, focusing particularly on the psychological and social processes that can facilitate or obstruct successful teamwork. Rather than advise managers on how to build effective teams, as most books in this area tend to do, this book instead focuses on how to build organizations structured around teams. The text is divided into six sections describing the six main stages of developing team-based working in an organization. The chapters follow a common structure. Each one opens with a summary of the aims and activities relevant to that stage and concludes with a selection of appropriate support materials and tools. These materials can also be downloaded from the CD accompanying the text. The advice given is based on evidence gathered by the authors over 20 years of practical management experience, research work in organizations, and consultancy across the public, manufacturing and service sectors.

Eating Frogs!.......2007-09-15
I learned of this book from a friend who has the older version of it. I glanced through her copy and noticed her notes. She said you have got to get this, it will organize your life. I purchased the 2nd edition version, read the book through, then reread it marking the tasks that I feel will help me find the missing hours in a day, so things get accomplished, instead of brushed under the rug. Sometimes it just seems to be amazing that it is end of the day, the week or even the month and it seems that nothing or not a whole lot seemed to be accomplished. I work in Direct Sales so it helps there also. It help me find the time to take care of the household, spend time with each family member and take care of their needs, and still be able to spend time with clients to be able to service them better allowing them to pass recommendations of me around. I also picked up his book Goals!, keeping them both close at hand so I can glance through and get that boost of energy again, with the "Yes I Can" attitude. "Eat That Frog", will get you out of procrastinating and working with goals, while "Goals!", will get you into setting goals, keeping them and accomplishing them, it is such a win-win!
Great Ideas to Improve Time Management!.......2007-08-28
Brian is a great writer and this little book is another one of his gems.
If you want a simple guide to time management buy this book!
"Last Friday...Was I Scared!--My Boss Almost Fired Me!".......2007-08-26
Do you procrastinate on important tasks? Do you wait until the last minute to do the most important of things both personally and on your job? If you are like 90% of all people, you have become prey to the monster of procrastination. Procrastination has nothing to do with laziness or lack of ambition, but has everything to do with the "fear of overwhelm". As humans, we can all become victims of overwhelm, but at last there is a solution. The absolute best book on "procrastination busting" I have ever read is Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by Brian Tracy. After reading and following the advice Mr. Tracy lays out in this remarkable book, you will have conquered procrastination forever! Yes, I said--forever!! Remember, unless you conquer procrastination you CANNOT succeed at anything. Buy this book, and say goodbye to procrastination for good.
Other great titles by Brian Tracy are:
Maximum Achievement: Strategies and Skills That Will Unlock Your Hidden Powers to Succeed
The Ultimate Goals Program: How To Get Everything You Want Faster Than You Thought Possible
Focal Point: A Proven System to Simplify Your Life, Double Your Productivity, and Achieve All Your Goals
Thank you, Mr. Tracy for helping us to rid ourselves of the demon of procrastination for good!
This book will change you! .......2007-08-22
I think of all of Brian Tracy's books-- this is my favorite.
I teach "day management" over time management. So our opinions differ a bit on this. Brian has you prioritize the things you must do each day-- eating the biggest ugliest frog first. This is two fold. It eliminates procrastination and dread. I tell clients to do the thing they dread the most first. Why spend the day dreading that awful phone call? Anxiety builds and so does the discomfort. We are saying the same thing different ways.
Where we differ is that because I teach sales and self promotion-- you can find any frog uglier than your marketing responsibilities. My clients create their marketing plan, with daily action items they commit to doing-- no matter the number of frogs out there.
The energy over the visual of eating a frog is so emotional, it sticks. That is what makes this such a great book. I use the language with my clients, and I'll often hail an accomplishment accredited to "I just sat down and ate the frog".
This book will change your attitude on procrastination. I didn't believe it, because although most people tell me I do more than anyone they know-- I can dig my heels in as stubbornly as another. But when I feel that wave coming on-- I just "eat the frog".
Eat That Frog.......2007-08-17

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2006-03-14
This is a truly excellent book. It is a combination of The World is Flat and Rich Dad Poor Dad. Hall contends that by using the correct business structure called an "Agile" business structure you can use the supply chain and technologies of other businesses you create strategic relationships with. He walks you through all the pieces required and at the end I felt like I had just taken an MBA in Global Entrepreneurship.
The world is shrinking (or getting flat) and this book gives an incredible insight on how entrepreneurs can take advantage of this shift in world economics. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Stop! don't waste your money.......2006-02-20
I've read hundreds of business books, this ranks as one of the lousiest waste of time and money. My wife bought it on the recommendation of her friend...I got a hold of it and read it. The writing skill is that of a 6th grader, the content is so general, repetitive and lacking in any sustance that I can't believe all the positive reviews it's gotten. Let me summarize this book for you and save you time and $10....Globalize...that's it. One word. If you don't know that by now, you really shouldn't be in business. This book is a complete waste of time.
Very Informative.......2005-11-23
This is an excellent and inspiring book if you aspire to introduce your products to the global market. It shows you how to take your product to the largest global markets including:
China 1.3 billion people
India 1.05 billion people
USA 290 million people
European Union 449 million people
The point being, why sell to only to your small town when you can sell to a global market. And he shows you how to do it - on a budget.
Excellent Book.......2005-11-23
I love this book! I mean it. I have a software business and make a lot of money. This book hits the nail on the head. It talks about how to use globalization to become wealthy. I see this everyday. GM just announced a 30,000 employee job cut. What's going to happen to these people. This book predicted that this and more like this will continue to happen.
To become wealthy you need to start an agile business and partner with larger organizations. I learned a lot from this book and will be using the knowledge to expand my business.
Is it possible?.......2005-10-15
I've always thought of it as a fantasy. To stop working, sit on the beach, travel, get wealthy ... essentially retire while I'm still young enough to enjoy it. I'm not even 30 as yet so another 37 years of working seems very painful. Plus I really, really hate my job (but it pays the bills).
I'm impressed with this book because I think it's the future model of business innovation (he calls it Agile Business Modeling). The author has put together a business model (learned from his experience with Fortune 500 clients) that shows entrepreneurs how to operate on a global scale with little or no investment. Much of it is based on developing "strategic relationships" with other companies. He gives the example of Microsoft strategic relationship with IBM that made Bill Gates the household name that it is today.
I found the book very practical because it deals with the various areas of a business as well as financial breakdowns to ensure profitability throughout the business cycle.
The book could be called "How to Create the American Dream" because that's what it promises. The author migrated to the United States at 13 with his parents with no money. Now as an adult he spends "only a few minutes per day managing his company" with customers from all over the world including various Fortune 500 companies. I want that job!!!
Excellent book with a different twist!

Start Living provides the tools and the advice-from someone who has done it.
Customer Reviews:
Delightful read, plus good advice & encouragement! HOWEVER...........2006-09-21
As you can tell from my four-star rating of this book, I do very much like it; indeed, I find it a much more engaging read than many other "early retirement" books. In fact, being myself an early retiree for years already, I can personally relate to many things the lovely Ms. Nahirny advocates throughout her narrative.
However, in the spirit of providing a "reality check", I feel inclined to point out several cold facts to prospective readers of this book.
First, "American" (i.e., U.S.) readers should bear in mind that Ms. Nahirny is a Canadian, and therefore her routine health-care expenditures are surely only a fraction of what they'd be were she to purchase the typical American's level of health insurance. (We've all heard of the "free" national health care available to all Canadian citizens.) Mind you, I myself only spend about $82 monthly for my American health insurance, but that only buys a bare-bones, "$5,000-deductible" policy; hence, even though I'm in good health and generally only require a tiny handful of visits to the doctor yearly, I still end up spending at least a "noteworthy" sum for health care annually.
Even more significantly, U.S. readers should bear in mind the fairly substantial monetary difference between Canadian and American dollars. On pages 98 through 101, Ms. Nahirny discusses her net worth, and she states that, as of 2000, it had risen to $300,000, which, in American dollars (as of this writing) would actually be roughly equivalent to "only" $265,966. Furthermore, she makes clear that her equity in her house (amounting to $170,000) made up the largest portion of her net worth. In other words, the REST of her assets amounted to only $130,000 (Canadian), which would be equivalent to only $115,296 (American). "Do the math" (not omitting inflation and taxation, and factoring a realistic, safe rate of return on assets), and you'll quickly perceive that that amount of money (starting in the year 2000) wasn't likely to finance genuine retirement for any "middleclass" citizen in Canada--much less the USA--for another three decades or longer. [If I'm missing something here, somebody please bring it to my attention.] Of course, Ms. Nahirny could always sell her house and thereby derive more interest income per year; but she doesn't sound inclined to do so any time soon. Therefore, take her touted claim of being literally "retired" with the proverbial grain of salt. "SEMI-retired" would seem more accurate. I suspect she'll be continuing to engage in some part-time employment for years to come--unless, that is, she's received an inheritance (or other windfall) since her book was published in 2001. Nothing wrong with that!
On an admittedly much less significant note, I also think that the frugal Ms. Nahirny is missing out on sizeable budgetary savings by not accepting her brother's advice to use a bicycle for (at least some of) her transportation around town. Hey, if I can still manage it comfortably at age 53 (and I'm embarrassingly far from an athlete), surely svelte Dianne could have managed it in her mid 30's and beyond. [TIP: Just install a rear rack compatible with a stylish, compact-but-very-expandable, quickly and easily attachable/detachable, zippered "trunk bag" (including normally hidden--yet capacious--zippered "panniers" that can hang down on both sides of the rear wheel). And, if you need even more carrying capacity, wear a small, cheap backpack.] Ms. Nahirny's only (vague) explanation of why she herself (unlike the "neighbor" she mentions) doesn't use a bike is the dismissive quip, "I couldn't see myself biking around the city". Therefore, her "final solution" to her transportation dilemma is to pay "a corporate rate" for "a limousine service" (!) because this is, at least, cheaper than owning a car. Frankly, it SOUNDS like she (much like certain other "middleclass" folks I know personally) simply has a bit of a (purely psychological/emotional) problem with being SEEN on a bike! Yet, ironically, she conveys elsewhere in her book that she doesn't much care what other people think about various (unconventional) money-saving schemes she (generally wisely) employs! In this vein, if you know much about (the late) Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin (authors of the bestseller "Your Money or Your Life"), then you know that THEY, approaching their sixties, still were making considerable use of their bicycles for getting around "hilly, rainy Seattle". Ms. Nahirny goes to considerable lengths to save several bucks a year by using, for example, old newspapers (instead of paper towels) to wipe her countertops--or even by reusing some of her household water--yet she thinks little of continually funding a "chauffeur" to drive her around town. Shoot, by the time she's called (and patiently awaited the arrival of) her "convenient" limousine, she might as well have pedaled halfway--or maybe all the way--to her destination, not to mention the obvious budgetary and bodily benefits. But, hey, "to each his own". ;-)
Despite my qualifying remarks above, I strongly like Ms. Nahirny's book. Among its many virtues, there are numerous money-saving tips for anyone wanting to squeeze every last bit of value from their dollar--be the latter Canadian or "American". ;-)
Awesome book.......2005-06-12
This is a great book. I only wished I had come across it many years sooner. It is inspiring that someone has actually retired before 40 without hitting the lottery or inheriting a fortune from ancestors. Dianne gives doable tips and references.
So Helpful!.......2005-03-14
I've just finished reading the new edition of this book, and it has been the most positive experience for finally getting me to realize how badly I was sabotaging my life and my finances. Better than that, thanks to her practical ideas, it became easy to manage my money, start saving, and get my money working for me! Her story is inspirational, and the latest edition of the book includes an up-to-date account of how her methods keep producing profits. Her experiences are REAL, that most people can relate to; she's actually done these things herself, and isn't just yet another financial author telling you what your should do, blah, blah, blah. What makes the book 'excellent' is that her examples and stories, along with being inspirational, are quite funny! As well, she regularly posts her personal finance articles for free on her website, www.smartmakeovers.com, which is a real bonus.
Extremely boring.......2003-12-05
I don't know why this books gets 5 stars as a review, because I don't see it that way. She really goes on and on about the details of her life which is annoyingly somewhat irrelevant. I think this is more of an autobiography rather than a "get rich quick" book. Most of it is common sense. Obviously there is a difference between needs and wants. This concept has been repeated in other financial books on the shelf. And also about "comparison" shopping; that's even more obvious. It's a given that you SHOULD comparison shop before you buy ANYTHING. This book let me down. Lucky I picked it up from the library and didn't actually buy it. Read "The Millionaire Mind" for a more pleasant reading in acquiring traits that could lead you to being rich.
Making a case for being frugal.......2002-05-15
Think of this as a diet book for money. Everyone knows that they should really have a budget, not make impluse purchases, save 10% of her income etc, but like with dieting, willpower only goes so far. The strengh of the book isn't that its another How to Budget book but that it helps you re-examine your attitudes towards money management. She makes a very strong case that being frugal doesn't mean living without.
But like with Dieting, her ideas are great but easier said than done.

Customer Reviews:
Summary of the book: Pay someone to do it for you........2003-05-15
I wholeheartedly agree with abloome below. This book offers absolutely nothing other than "pay anyone you can to do it for you." It also assumes that by "working mother" you are the CEO of a very large corporation, work from morning until night and never have a spare second. The alleged helpful hints in this book are things like this: Get you and your child's belonging together the night before so you are not running all over the house looking for stuff in the morning. NO KIDDING.
Unless your life is a total disaster area, this book will not tell you anything you don't already know. It is very simplistic and honestly, annoyed me.
If you have enough money to hire people, buy this book.......2002-12-17
I am a working mother with a one year old daughter. I commute 3 hours a day, work full time and go to school.
I was very disappointed in this book. I was hoping for some hands on practical tips to balancing motherhood and work. The author's solution to challenging problems is to hire someone else, which I can't afford.
If you really want some good advice go to BlueSuitMom.com or buy an organizational book to help you get more organized. You will save tons of time and be happier.
Not bad, very focused on the American lifestyle........2002-08-01
I found that this book had some excellent suggestions to make a family household more organised and I will be making use of these. However, I found that the book is aiming at women who are at a higher level in the corporate business structure than myself (perhaps at a middle to senior management level), and assumes that they will have a lot of money available to help resolve their time problems.
The section on travelling when you are a working mother seemed rather poor to me, I have done a fair bit of overseas travel and am experienced at this. I would suggest that you review the website [URL] for some excellent travel tips both with and without your children.
Finally, some other sections of this book were very much based on the American lifestyle (such as what to do with your kids during school holidays...ie camp and setting your kids up for scholorships). As an Australian, these sections are not of use to me.
Practical and easy-to-read!.......2001-05-23
I'm a new working mom with a ten-month-old daughter! I have been searching for resources to support my decision and all I'd found has been stay-at-home mom information! This book is a godsend! Although alot of it has to do with school-age children, which I know I can use for years to come, it has given me tips and ideas to use immediately as well as reassuring me that I can do it all and have my kids turn out ok! I'd rather be home, but for those of us who can't be, this is a the book to read!
A Must Have For Any Working Mom Returning to the Workplace.......2000-10-12
I think this book will be very, very useful to any mom who is first returning to the workplace. While it definitely will be useful to all working moms, I have a feeling that the longer you have worked, the less likely it will be you will find really useful pointers in this book. However, if you're about to go back to work, you've got to read this book. Personally, I have been working for 4 years after having my kids, so I didn't really find the beginning chapters on organization all that helpful. I had already figured a lot out myself. That being said, I really wish I had seen those chapters 4 years ago, they would have saved me a lot of time and aggravation. What I did find helpful was her hints on how to handle kids being in school, something I have recently started to experience. Those chapters made me feel like I am not the only one facing the problems I am facing. What I found really important, and what I fear a lot of working moms don't focus on is the last chapter in the book, the chapter dealing with taking care of yourself. She lets you know it's ok to get a facial, a manicure, a massage, if you can do it, because as a working mom, you deserve it.
As I said above, this is a terrific book. If you have been out there working for a while, you probably know a lot of these things Goldman discusses in her book, but in that case, buy the book and give it to a coworker or friend who is just returning to work. She'll thank you for it immensely.

Book Description
With the spectacular developments in technology accompanying and aiding scientific research over the past few decades, graduate students are often encouraged to focus more on generating data than to utilize their most sophisticated piece of equipment: their mind.
Stop Working & Start Thinking, Second Edition encourages young researchers to think more clearly about their experiments, from experimental design to data interpretation. Essential reading for graduate students, this new edition builds on the success of the first edition, with new material throughout and a new chapter on measurement interpretation, including an examination of cryptic assumptions.

bug report.......2005-05-03
The book is beautifully written. I am still reading it and will keep on doing so.
Seem to be an mistake on page 6, the salary example. The earning table, third column shoulde be {5000, 5000, 6600, 6600, 8200, 8200} instead of {5000, 5000, 5800, 5800, 6600, 6600}.
Considering it's written by scientists (not engineers), such numerical errors are forgivable :)
The book also discussed about statistics and on page 48, it mentioned standard error (or Standard Error of Mean), which seems to be quite controvertial according to
http://www.sportsci.org/resource/stats/meansd.html
Anyway, I searched, there is going to be a 2nd edition

I can thoroughly recommend this small but extremely valuable book. There is a mass of literature and expertise for all the equipment, chemicals and materials students will encounter during the course of their research but there is nothing equivalent for the most important piece of equipment, the mind!
This book attempts to provide that by persuading the reader to take a step back from the humdrum or obvious and look at their projects from beginning to end, even before it is begun!
There are real-life examples (I had great fun trying out the puzzles) that encourage the ability to ask the right questions and highlight the pitfalls so often encountered in scientific investigation. You'll be amazed at what you learn and how easily you can avoid unnecessary work. By the time you have read this book you should have a great understanding of the reality of experimental investigation: from design of experiments, through analysis and interpretation of data to presentation of results.

Book Description
Nearly 4 million manufacturing jobs have been lost in the United States since 1998. And yet, politicians in Washington still pay little more than lip service to the issues threatening the domestic manufacturing sector, while working class communities wither on the vine. Policymakers proclaim the booming service industry as the panacea for displaced manufacturing workers, who struggle to adapt their skills to these lower paying service jobs. The stress of unemployment and the need for multiple incomes eats at the core of American life - the family. Ripples of distress reverberate in the streets of our communities, from the pulpits of our churches, and through the halls of our local governments. Truck Stop Politics examines the key voting block in America that keeps resurfacing with different names - Roosevelt Democrats, Hardhats, Reagan Democrats, and Red-state Republicans - and looks at how the working class is coming to terms with the 21st century realities of globalization. Neither "protectionists" nor "economic nationalists," America's workers are eager to take on the challenges that accompany a global marketplace, and want leaders in D.C. who will be champions for a level playing field on which American workers can compete. But in a Washington obsessed with maintaining power, it is the multinationals that have the ears of America's decisionmakers, who turn a blind eye to the unfair and illegal trade practices that accommodate the flow of goods from foreign nations. And as the 2006 mid-term elections showed, working Americans are fed up. They want a chance to show that the age-old American values of hard work, ingenuity, and dedication can still allow us to outcompete anyone in the world. And they perceive a political class in D.C. that prefers the values of manipulation, distortion, and spin. Until one of America's parties steps up to enforce fairness and compliance from our trading "partners" with our existing trade agreements, Washington will continue to see the incumbent party - Republicans or Democrats - turned out, as voters search for a government of the people.
