Customer Reviews:
Only for the newbie.......2007-10-22
Just finished the book last night hoping to find ideas that I could implement in my eBay sales. No real new info here. More geared for the eBay novice. If you have any experience buying or selling on eBay you already know 99% of the info provided in this book.
I found it odd that the author claims to have sold a 4 year old pair of very worn sneakers on eBay for $21 in the beginning of the book and then talks about it again later in the book but the sale price was $26.
Also, the author refers you to links to third party paid services which he owns.
Read this book is one sitting..........2007-10-09
What really stood out for me was the writing style of the book. It was conversational with great stories that were fun and interesting.
Along with great tips, this book is not written in the typical "textbook" format. I read the entire book in less than a day and would definitely encourage anyone to read it!
Simply a GREAT Book!.......2007-10-09
Not only was this book easy to read - the content helped me go from a new eBay seller to an advanced one. I went from 19 feedback to 175 feedback in 60 days using the techniques I learned.
I'd highly encourage anyone interested in learning more about eBay to read this book!
Great eBay book.......2007-06-14
a Gotta Have book if you are planning on starting an eBay business in your home in 30 days. Great reference for the experienced eBayer.
Garbage.......2007-06-08
This book is one big fat advertisement for Ebay and for Adam Ginsberg's other ventures. It had very little useful information, and NO information that cannot be found easily on-line or on Ebay itself. It was a waste of my time reading it. It was utterly repetitive and took forever to actually get to any sort of information or advice. There is hardly enough information in this book to fill a 10 page pamphlet...let alone a 300 page book!!! I'm just happy I got it from the library and didn't end up wasting my money as well as my time.
I wish there was actually a book out there to help people who are not complete ebay beginners. The biggest ebay woe is finding sources for products, and there is little help in this book....OH, unless you want to go to the website Adam plugs and buy more stuff from him. SURE, then he'll help you out. HA, RIGHT!

Selling Used Books Online is a comprehensive how-to bible for America's newest and fastest growing group of entrepreneurs, the sellers on Amazon Marketplace and other online venues. Author Stephen Windwalker, a successful online seller himself who has also operated a brick-and-mortar bookshop, provides a treasure trove of up-to-date information with verve, clarity, and wit.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has reported that the number of third-party sellers on his company's website grew from over 100,000 in the fourth quarter of 2001 to over 150,000 in the first quarter of 2002, and roughly one-third of these appear to be entrepreneurial sellers who are operating full- or part-time businesses in competition with each other, with Amazon, and with very large Amazon Marketplace sellers such as Powell's, the Strand bookstore, and Alibris. Customer Reviews:
This book is a "must have" for any new bookseller!.......2007-10-05
This book is a "must have" for anyone learning to sell online. It answers every question a new seller may encounter. I just started selling online and this book has really helped me! I keep it by my computer and reach for it every day! I want to give the best service possible to my customers and what a better place to learn the "best practices" than from a successful bookseller! Thanks to Stephen Windwalker for writing this book!
An Informative but Outdated Book.......2007-10-04
There is a lot of information in this book, particularly if you are new to selling online. That being said, however, there much information that was also missing. In particular, the use of selling aids when scouting for inventory. I would recommend Christine Miller's book for further insight. Her book really did take me up to the next level of my business.
great great book.......2007-09-29
Lot's of useful info packed in here. I little outdate maybe as far as the online selling goes, but the info has so far been right on the money for me!
A Good Book but Not Enough to Ensure Success .......2007-07-08
I can't complain about this book, it helped me get started. After running the gambit of get rich quick scams and schemes, I started selling used books on Amazon, and made more than $20,000 my first year. So, if your skeptical about whether or not this is a real business opportunity, don't be. It really works! However, there are some things, like the history of online selling, that some of us don't have time for, and so many of the early books (including this one), don't cover all of the tools available to help sellers find and buy top-dollar books. Because of this, a few years into my success, I ended up writing my own guide, to discuss things I found lacking in other books, sparing no secrets I've learned along the way. Windwalker's book, and others, contain many step-by-step directions, and sample confirmation letters, etc., so all the set-up work is done for you. But, I haven't found a book that includes real life examples, of successful sellers, and their business/buying models. So, I decided to include profiles of different sellers and their techniques and strategies, along with a comprehensive list of real book titles, and keys to help the newcomer learn to identify books that you can buy-low and sell-high. This is one of the biggest keys to success, yet, even after reading some of the best books available, most of us start out with a few paragraphs about identifyng top-dollar books, that are sitting right under our nose at used bookstores, Goodwill, Friends of Library Stoes, and you name it. I'm sorry to ultimately be plugging my own book, when this book helped me get started and is a first rate book, but I did my best to make sure my books was the most inclusive and the information tangible, gearing it to the stay-at-home mm, because it's developed to make the most money in the least amount of time (which are two things mom's are short of), but this quality ultimately makes it perfect for anyone wanting to make the money it takes to sustain yourself and your family with a home-based, low-risk, low-overhead, low-investment, high-profit business.
Christine Miller author of How to Sell Used Books on Amazon: The Stay-at-Home Mom's Secret Step-by-Step Guide (from setting up your account, to navigating the website, contacting customers, finding, recognizing, and selling top-dollar books, and much more)
Outstanding Book for Amazon Book Sellers.......2007-05-17
This book gave me clear ideas on how to set up a book selling business. There were also many helpful tips on how to improve a business that is already going. I would buy it again.

Do it now.......2007-06-27
I thought I could just open my doors - this book was filled with amazing tools and tips for starting my own business. I'll be starting up soon - so don't forget to pay your bills in my neighborhood. If you are looking for a way to work at home and are an experienced collections agent - this may just be the perfect book for you.
How to Start a Home-Based Collection Agency.......2007-05-21
The book has great information, for some reason I thought that it was much larger for the price. I probably would not have purchased it if I had realized that it was so thin and so costly in comparison.
Very basic ... very disappointing.......2007-01-17
I should have listened to the reviewer who said you could find all the information in this book through a 3 minute search on the internet. Lots of references, lots of filler content (such as a chapter on the FDCPA, pretty much word for word), but very little "actionable" content. I was hoping to have some substance that would springboard my plan into action. Well, this book isn't the answer.
If you are looking for basic information that stays at "level 1" ... then this book may work for you. Unfortunately, I was searching for Level 2,3,4 details that I could act upon.
Fails to give enough information.......2006-02-22
This book only provides a VERY little more than can be found in 3 minutes of searching the internet.
I was highly dissapointed by the lack of significant content. It was short, generic, and I believe did not provide answers to any of the really tough questions about starting a home based collections business.
I would NOT buy it again or recommend it to a friend.
Good companion book when starting your own agency........2005-02-16
How to Start a Home Based Collection Agency has some good information in it. I think if someone is thinking about starting their own agency, this book would be helpful in helping them make that decision. I feel they would need to do more research as this book doens't cover everything you need to know but it is a great place to start. I think this book is a good companion book with my book on Starting a Collection Agency. I think combined someone would have enough information to start their business. Of course, the learning is never over so joining a credit association or group would be an added asset when purchasing this book or any book on this subject. Overall, I found the book to have alot of helpful information, and is easy to read. Robert obviously has experience in this field and has written this book to share that knowledge with others looking to start out in this field.

Duplicate information.......2007-08-27
This is a very good resource. It is easy to understand and use. However, don't make the mistake of also purchasing "The Craft Business Answer Book", by the same author. The description makes it sound like the book contains different information, but it doesn't. The covers are different, but the books are basically the same.
outdated and not so helpful.......2007-07-09
i found this book to be dry and not helpful for my home craft business purposes. It is now very much out of date also.
great for the truly green.......2000-02-28
I have not been in the crafts business long, and I must say I found this book far more informative than others offered online. Highly recommended for newcomers like myself.
Customer Reviews:
The only book you'll ever need!.......2007-10-18
As an M.B.A with a Marketing specialization, and having read tons of books on Selling and Marketing, I would recommend this book hands down for any one wanting to learn the basics, as well as to brush up their skills and become adept at selling their product or service. I am starting out on my own and this one book has proved very handy. The Edwards truly understand the nuances and difficulties of selling, especially for those on their own and and have analyzed some of the problems that typically inhibit people from succeeding even with the right plan.
If you work from home, definitely get the Working from Home book by the same authors, and read them both. I have recommended this book to many friends.
Particular points of interest for me was the repeated emphasis to specialize, to choose a niche, and avoid the trap of being a Jack of all trades.......too many options make most of us decide we could do several different things - b'cos we are good at many things or b'cos we want more options for revenue. The authors spell out how this would be very much like shooting ourselves in the foot, and help you shape your strategy and reason things out for yourself.
To summarize, this books not only helps you get business, it also helps you choose your strategies, from a clever business name to finding a niche. Get this book now!
Rubbish.......2007-10-12
Lots of talk about impractical business ideas and promotion methods. Hundreds of pages of empty talk.
Marketing essentials for your small business........2007-09-13
Another great book for a small business looking to establish themselves and learn the essentials of marketing. Getting Business to Come to You focuses your attention on the most effective, low-cost methods of marketing and also gives very useful technical details on the process of creating your own marketing materials.
The four most effective, low-cost marketing methods are
1. Word of mouth. To have a business thrive and grow with only word of mouth marketing should be the goal of every entrepreneur. Not that you can't give it a kick with some other methods when you want, but what sweet bliss it is to have your customers and new ones beating a path to your door with no effort on your part except your great reputation and service. The key is to get yourself into the mind of the people that matter...your customers. Focus your efforts on those people that will buy from you and get them to give you referrals. Everything else you do is in order to reach this goal.
2. Public relations. PR is your ticket to being established as a leader in your industry. Create a publicity kit and get the media's attention. Use your publicity to get others to recognize your name and know that you are the expert in your field.
3. Direct marketing. Use it to control how often your business enters into the mind of your customer. A monthly newsletter or a quarterly sale or discount, that they are alerted to via direct mail or email, will keep you in their minds and keep them telling their friends about you.
4. Inventive advertising. New customers will be attracted to your business if you are effective at advertising. Being inventive is the key. Your copy has to stand out from the rest and you have to be creative. Experiment with different media such as bulletin boards, radio and TV shows, yellow pages, trade directories, etc.
This book has helpful lists of when a particular marketing technique is right for your business and when you're just wasting money. It helps you tailor your marketing campaign to your needs. I especially enjoyed the technical details on such topics as building a publicity kit and writing and designing advertising copy that sells. Other topics were detailed as well, but these stood out as the most important for my business at this time. Read the book and see which ones stand out for you!
While reading Getting Business to Come to You I often found myself putting the book down to implement some of the things I had learned before moving on.

A wealth of information .......2007-08-07
This has got to be one of the best marketing books out there for small businesses. The authors really have a good understanding of what it's like to be starting out, and the mistakes that can be made -- and how to do it RIGHT instead!
My only complaint is it is a bit wordy at times. One good example serves the purpose, and we are given 5. So skim on once you get the point. There is a ton of meat here. Great great stuff. Well worth the money spent.
Getting Business to Come to You.......2007-02-10
This book is the "I want it all" book for the sole proprietor in the startup phase! Step by step instructions, inspirational, and informative.
Worth it's weight in gold!!

This book will tell you everything you need to know to get started in the lawn care business.
Customer Reviews:
Great starter book.......2006-02-27
I will use this book as the go to information source in making my business grow. Love it.
Good book........2004-07-28
This book gives you a lot of great information that a lawn care operator would not think about when starting up a business. It takes a lot more than a push mower and a trimmer to make money in this business and this book lets you know what a professional in this occupation does. This is not a book that tells you how to cut grass, fertilize, ect. It deals with what it takes to run a lawn care business and it has a pricing list, checklists, etc. that helps you calculate your start up costs. Good book.
LESS THAN I EXPECTED.......2003-03-02
THE BOOK WAS VERY SHORT AND DID NOT EXPAND VERY MUCH IN A LOT OF IMPORTANT AREA'S...THIS COULD OF ALMOST BEEN A START UP BOOK FOR ANY TYPE OF SMALL SERVICE BUSINESS. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FACT THAT SEVERAL OF THE ORGANIZATIONS LISTED WERE EITHER NO LONGER FUNCTIONING OR NEVER DID. THE CONTACT NUMBERS AND WEB ADDRESSES ARE ALL DEAD ENDS. THE BOOK DID HOWEVER HAVE GOOD POINTS ON OUTLINING THE START OF YOUR BUSINESS (HOWEVER GEARED FOR SOMEONE WITH A LOT OF MONEY TO START). I ALSO THINK THE BOOK BARELY TOUCHED UPON THE AREA'S OF HOW TO ATTAIN LICENSE'S AND PERMIT'S. OVERALL I WAS DISAPPOINTED BUT IT WAS NOT A TOTAL LOSS, I LEARNED A FEW THINGS THAT I WILL PROBABLY USE IN THE START UP OF MY BUSINESS.

Book is O.K........2007-06-11
This book was O.K. There were many ideas to choose from but only a few good ones. Plus, there isn't much information on each business. You could find more ideas and a lot more information for free on the Internet.
outdated.......2007-03-30
Book is now outdated. Is a good reference or starting point for the novice. Good introduction to where things have come from... Things have changed quite a bit since publication as they tend to do on the net.
101 Internet Businesses You Can Start from Home.......2005-10-12
Waste of Money...Don't buy this book its completly outdated and not a single business in 101 business listing is practical in today's life
More comprehensive than similar titles........2002-06-20
If you've ever dreamed of owning your own business but don't want to be tied down to a brick and mortar building, then this is the book for you. Starting an Internet business could not be easier with the help of the information provided. The book starts with interview information from three successful Internet businesses and then follows that with how to get your point across, the various formats for a storefront, required features of the successful storefront, payment options, and levels of e-business. From there it moves to helping determine what is important to you and how to use that to find the right business for you. From there it moves to the profiles of successful businesses. These profiles are complete with how to market the business, startup costs, skills needed, online examples, etc. It finally concludes with information on how to build your site, get it submitted to search engines, e-mail marketing, using links and pretty much just about everything that you need to know in order to get the business up and running.
Susan Sweeney, the owner of an international Internet firm, has produced a very thorough and easy to understand book. Probably the best book available today on starting an Internet business from scratch, it is a highly recommended read.
Book Description
This best-selling book is unique in that it parallels the organization of an introductory marketing textbook, but it explores key marketing concepts in the context of today's digital/Internet environment. It fills the gap for those who have found Internet Marketing books suffer from too much “E” and not enough marketing or are too narrowly or technically focused on e-commerce.
A five-part organization covers e-marketing in context, e-marketing environment, e-marketing strategy, e-marketing management, and a global perspective on e-marketing. Special topics include competitive strategies, e-marketing strategy development, marketing planning, and performance metrics; and coverage of cutting edge strategies beyond the Web—m-marketing (mobile), databases and analysis techniques, point of purchase scanning, and more.
For an e-understanding of marketing and business.
Customer Reviews:
irony .......2005-09-06
New to the subject, I found the book pitched at the right level, stimulating for the layman and a useful starting point for teaching.
However, having paid the usual ton of cash for an academic text I was appalled to find ch 4- 'Global Markets'- scattered with solecisms and typos. I counted five, my favourite (I'm English) being the 'Untied States'. Clearly a spellchecker from the last century was used here.
I have been in touch with the chapter's author, Al Rosenbloom, and he very affably explains that the fault lies with the publishers. This makes sense. My grouse is that text books shouldn't contain any typos, least of all those that address the computer-driven future of commerce. If cutting edge publishing allows errors such as 'wherkever' and 'Cambodia is country...' to creep into a reference book then the technology has a long way to go.
Otherwise recommended
If you are new to e-marketing, great book to start...........2005-01-27
I had this book as part of my Master's Digital Marketing course at coloradotech.edu
Normally, these types of books are not very useful to me, as I've been on the web for around 8 years an am more familiar with how it works. I remember back when submitting a site to Yahoo was free. Then again, it took FOREVER to get listed.
Anyway, for those new to banner ads, paid listings, website promotion, affiliate programs, etc., this book may be for you.
For those that are already familiar with the objectives of conventional marketing, and the web, you may find a lot of the material more 'common sensical'.
I didn't give it 5 stars, because there are other books out there that describe e-marketing on a much broader scale, such as the book I had for my previous class: Electronic Commerce, A managerial perspective 2004.
Marketing viewed from multiple angles........2003-02-23
I enjoyed the read becuase it wasn't the 1-man point of view like most books contain. It was a discussion from multiple angles and multiple points of view that lets you come out with your own perspective once you've read it.
Good Book.......2002-09-30
This book was part of our Internet Marketing Class. The book is very detailed and a must read for all Marketing Students and Professionals.
Valuable to read.......2002-03-28
E-commerce is a hot issue. This book gives us lots of marketing concepts and it is valuable for marketing students to read. Also, it is helpful for those who are interested in doing business in the Internet. For example, how to market your products and service effectively via the net.

Creative Cash.......2006-11-24
The words Creative Cash caught my attention since I'm a creative person. Excellent book. Alot of great information. I accidentally came across this book while searching for something else and had to have it. It came in a nice timely manner and in excellent condition. This is my kind of book.

A wealth of information!.......2003-07-09
Creative Cash by Barbara Brabec is THE book to have if you are considering turning your crafting hobby into a business and/or profession.
The book is written for a wide and general audience, with basics on the craft business industry, sales/marketing/promotion, legal info, even computer systems/information! The chapters are written in such a way that if you don't need to read one (let's say that a particular chapter might not pertain to your situation) you can skip it and move on without missing a beat! Brabec writes in an easily comprehensible form, in digestable segments, and gives lots of clear cut examples and success stories.
This book works as a great starting point and reference tool. Highly recommended for adults of all ages, for both genders and long-time or newbie crafters/artisans!
Marketing your crafts - even hostess party plans!.......2000-02-13
Hi - My name is Opal Leasure, The Apron Strings Country Home Party Lady. Barbara's book, Creative Cash is chock full of helpful hints and downhome advice on getting your crafts business going and growing. As one of the small business entrepreneurs mentioned in the book, I feel the author does an excellent job of showing others "how-to" sell, market and otherwise, expand, their home based business endeavors. Creative Cash outlines hundreds of ways to market crafts including party plan (hostess) selling, home shows and boutiques. It also reflects on how one thing can lead to another, in life, and your own small business. Many listed, myself included, went on to self publish their own how-to books. I was very happy to note in the book, that Barbara included a resource section listing the professional crafters mentioned in the book. This is a good way for readers to benefit from the talents, ideas and creativity of many people. I urge others to order Creative Cash - it helps readers realize how gifted they really are and gives them incentives to get started with their own home based business plans. MLM, this book says it like it is.......2007-05-13
The book does a very good job at both explaining MLM and teaching you basic methods to become a successful recruiter. I was shocked at how open it was about the goal being not to sell products to real customers but, rather, to recruit recruit recruit.
Not my thing, as I prefer to find a business opportunity that actual customers want to purchase; vs being involved with something that puts the focus on recruiting rather than retailing. But if you feel differently then this book is for you.
