You are looking for a histology resource, probably as a pathologist or pathology resident. With a little modification, the third and updated edition of histology for pathologists may be the thing for you (if you have some time to read and tweak).
If you are looking for a "fast and furious" review, combine the histology sections of each chapter of Robbins and Rosai. However, if you really like histology - or feel that the knowledge of normal anatomy is the foundation to diagnose diseases, a more indepth review is required.
But: does histology change? or will the second edition do it?
The new version is really updated with many new color pictures and excellent makeover of the "not so colorfull" pictures in the older version. The main organ system structures stays the same and the apoptosis chapter from the 2nd edition is integrated in the different systems by site. All tables show a new, colored layout and even the myofibroblast chapter shines with multichannel immunohistochemistry. The big bonus is the included CD-Rom with almost all pictures from the book (including line-drawings). A nice option of the CD is to search by key-word (eg. endomterium pops up all figures with endometrium in the legend - a very nice feature) and all pictures can be downloaded for presentations. Two new figures about the sampling of the conduction system integrate gross sampling and histologic examination.
Summary - it's worth 160.
Now the tweaking. If you really want the ultimate resource you would have to go to the library, get the 2nd edition and copy/add the following pages/figures: Fig11.2, 86.2, 159.22, 259.23 293.7, 299.12, 306.19, 338.5, 340.6, 343, 345, 361, 362, 364, 435, 441, 533, 534, 664, 676, 684, 776, 800, 801, 802, 803, 827, 828, 1061 and 1134. Most of these are either classic figures not incorporated or modified in the new edition; some are simply better in black and white; and some are just old-school but still cool.
As a result you have a very complete histology text/atlas with updated references and a personal touch.

While I absolutely love the four agreements and return to the original book often, I found the companion book to be completely unnecessary. The writing style was poor and rambled in circles, constantly repeating itself. There was no new information at all. I seemed to me to be a way to get a little more money out of the concept - shocking considering the author.
I did enjoy the last few pages of personal examples from people who had incorporated the four agreements into their lives.
If you have the four agreements original book, you don't need this one and if you don't then skip this one and get the original.

However, that book did not have enough practical ideas or skills to guide me decode our old agreements/emotional garbage, how to be aware and how to transform. Don Miguel Ruiz has a very playful style of writing when he was telling us the above skills. I think in essence, the above skills suggests us to slow down our thinking process to give us enough time to steer our feelings and actions to apply the four agreements and to enjoy life intensely within the moment. His dialogue about the four agreements and other people¡¦s stories about applying the four agreements give me hope that I can live my life with what he has suggested. The dialogue helps us to decode certain emotional garbage and the dialogue helps me to break the old agreements. It is definitely a must-read if you have read the four agreements. Again, reading is not enough. However, putting the new adopted philosophies into everyday¡¦s life is the way to turn the dream of hell to become the dream of heaven.

Learning how to decipher the technical jargon surrounding research is never easy. This book makes it easy. Along with thorough explanations and an abundance of examples, there is a bit of humor tossed in. The humor helps break up the intense explanations. There are also many charts and graphs that help synthesize the information into an easy learning format. I would recommend this book for anyone who has to learn about research.

This CD is amazing. I find myself listening to it on my way to and from work every day since I've received it. It is very soothing to listen to the narrator's voice and the recording is high quality. The content of Don Miguel's work is changing the way I think. It is increasing my awareness of myself and my surroundings and allowing me to make day to day decisions and interactions from a higher level of consciousness. This already is a treasured part of my spiritual growth and evolution process.

I've read books on this subject before but I can tell you that this is by far the best, easiest to understand book that disputes the existence of a supreme being. If you've ever wanted to know what's on the other side of religion, had any doubts about your faith or ever wondered "where did it all come from and for what purpose?".......you should definitely start with this book before you read any other. You'll come out more knowlegable than 99% of all fundamentalist or any religion out there.

Author David Mills writes with calm clarity that is rich with insight and understanding of evolutionary science. He pulls off the coating of misrepresented information and tells the truth with details. His prose style is easy and fluid. The reader is not overwhelmed with verbose scientific technical language. Most important, he does not apologize for or excuse the defenders of creationism for their sidewinding tactics. This is a refreshing read.

I picked this book up as a christian who is interested in maintaining a well-rounded viewpoint. I was hoping to encounter some interesting arguments or data to challenge specific points of the christian religion, but I can't say I really did. Ultimately, I feel like the author spent a lot of time dismissing Intelligent Design, which I can understand since it isn't hard science, but also ended up doing a lot of handwaving over his points of contention in general. Maybe I expected too much, I don't know. I think it's a worthwhile read since it's one of the highest ranking books on the subject, but that doesn't speak too well of the genre in general it seems. I appreciate the author's civil style and friendly tone, but ultimately I just wasn't persuaded to even reconsider anything, and that may make his attempt a failure.

Don't waste your time reading this drivel. This book is so centered on the "dramatic" life of the author. None of his arguments are new or that well presented. Dawkins is more comprehensive, Dennett has more interesting insights and compelling arguments (belief in belief), and Hitchens will make you laugh and remind you that being an atheist doesn't mean you hitch your wagon to the crazy nuts on the left!

I bought this week 2 weeks after my laparoscopy, on the same day I had my follow up appt with my gyno, who told me I had endometriosis. My gyno could not get me out of her office quick enough, and couldnt answer any of my questions like 'does it come back? how do i stop it coming back? how do i manage the symptoms? what are my options?' The only thing she could tell me is that it was pretty certain i would be seeing her on a yearly basis for regular laps. Needless to say, i am finding a new gyno, but I still needed answers.
Dian's book answered all of my questions and more. The detailed information in the book on the body, the nervous system, the digestive system, and how everything was affected by endo, made perfect sense alongside the symptoms i have been suffering without explanation or end in sight. I had already been trying to eat well, but her strict dietary suggestions were what i needed to start and commit to a whole new way of eating.
4 weeks later, ive lost 5 kilos, my pelvic pain is gone, my digestive problems are easing, and ive just had my first period since the lap, which i was warned would be longer, painful, heavier than normal - nothing! No pms symptoms, no cravings, nothing! i guess this is what normal feels like! its fantastic. I know ive got a ways to go, but for the first time in years, i have answers and soolutions, and i am actually getting better and going forward, not backward. its a nice feeling.

Although I have not had a laproscopy, my doctor strongly suspects that I have endometriosis. Faced with monthly vicodin, missed work, hormone therapy, and future surgery, I was deperate to find a better way. This book filled in a lot of gaps for me about the disease in general, and gave suggestions for a possible nutritional connection (and certain food allergies/intolerances). My doctor was extremely skeptical and dismissive, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I've been on a wheat-free diet for three months now, and the difference in the severity of pain and other symptoms is amazing. I would strongly recommend this book for anyone with endometriosis. I now feel empowered, and that I am finally in control of this disease.

I'm halfway through the book and glad I made the investment. The information is excellent and VERY infomative. Going to doctors, scouring the internet and reading other endo books leaves a great deal of information gaps. The book is in many ways a textbook covering the human body in relation to endometriosis.
That being said, there is a lot of antidotal evidence and, in my opinion, debatable nutrition information. The devistation that endometriosis can bring is overwhelming and it leads many of us to become desprite for relief. My doctor, a leading endometriosis researcher, STONGLY disagreed with much of the nutritional information (he said that it wouldn't hurt you, just don't expect it to fix all your problems). After saying that, I still found that the book increased my knowledge tremendously and offers the despirate endo sufferer an alternative option when nothing else is working.

What is most curious about the home page for this classic academic work is that Amazon does not explain that this text is the fruit of one the most singularly important academic translations in the 20th century, accomplished by the team of sociologists Hans Gerth and C. Wright Mills (who later became an immensely influential classic sociologist himself). First published after the Second World War, the text provided access at long last to a treasure trove of previously untranslated works by Weber for the American academic community, and thus transformed the nature of the way American social scientists understood modern social theory.
It is no exaggeration to say that Weber's genius was his ability to successfully integrate the critical essence of the Marxian analysis of capitalist society with more functionally-oriented works such that even as stodgy and conservative a theorist as Talcott Parson soon found common analytical purpose with Weber's theoretical views! before long all the academic community was enthralled by the scope and verve of Weber's complex vision of a social theory informed with a comprehensive view of social action, such that all social actions can be meaningfully located within the welter of the purposes, motives, and values of the interacting individuals themselves. This was indeed an intelelctual revolution within social theory, and we can still find bibliophiles and academic devotees still poring over the nuances and variations in themes in Weber's considerable body of works.
After the publication of these essays, much more of his corpus of works was successfully translated and used in American university settings. Yet Weber's prose was never an "easy read", nor was his message about the evolving nature of contemporary bureaucratic society necessarily a heartening one; he was convinced we were turning toward a dark and mechanistic age, what he himself frequently characterized as being the "iron cage" of rationalization. His was the dark vision later shared by intellectuals like Aldous Huxley of a brave new world of petty diversions and a systematic but innocuous autocratic manipulation of everyman. Still, Weber's works stand as a testament to the power of an individual intellect. I recommend this book for anyone interested in better understanding him and his theoretical views. Enjoy!

Gerth and Mills' reader provides an excellent introduction to Weber's life and thought. This edition includes excerpts from _Economy and Society_, the brilliant essays ``Politics as a Vocation'' and ``Science as a Vocation,'' plus a brief critical biography and material from other sources.
Weber had so much to say about so many subjects that any anthology would require a well-considered method of organization; this book has that. It is easy to navigate. When I want to know what Weber said about a particular subject, I look in _From Max Weber_.

Lots of information on various grains. Good recipes but not necessarily low in calorie or sugar (wanted more healthy recipes). Many recipes use items not commonly found in the pantry, most likely having to buy more than needed at a health food store. Uses the ingredient "hard white whole wheat flour" in many recipes but fails to give a description of that ingredient except in an excerpt from another recipe I happened to peruse which states it is AKA bread flour. Why not simply state "bread flour"? Will adapt many recipes to use Splenda and less white flour. Overall a good book but wish there were pictures of the finished product and the nutritional information.

Great Concept, But Many Recipes Unreliable.......2007-05-28
I use a lot of Bob's Red Mill products and have baked with whole grains for more than 25 years, so I was excited when this book was published. The format is easy to use and appealing, and the directions are clear,although there are no photographs or drawings.
After a description of different kinds of flour and cereals, the book is divided into chapters on whole grain yeast breads, rolls, and sourdough; quick breads, muffins, biscuits, and scones; flatbreads, focaccia, crackers, and pizza; pies, tarts, cobblers and crisps; cookies; and cakes.
There are many ideas for using spelt, teff, quinoa, barley, buckwheat, and other less common flours, and there are quite a few gluten-free recipes, including cakes, gingerbread. and even sugar cookies. There are recipes for seven kinds of pizza dough, from yeast-free to cornmeal, and an unusual recipe for a strawberry pie that calls for baking the strawberries in a double crust. There are also many kinds of piecrust to try, ranging from sorghum and almond oat to whole wheat and barley.
The first recipe I tried was Bob's High Fiber Bread, which turned out dense and dry. I made Whole Wheat Irish Soda Bread, which was dull, dry, and heavy (I threw it out),and Gluten-free Rice Bread, a two-day project that didn't rise properly and had to be thrown out, also. Maple Pecan Muffins were very dry as were Whole Grain Bread Rings.
Here are some winners: the whole wheat pizza dough was very good, as was the Italian sausage and fontina calzone. Oatmeal pancakes were excellent, and the oatmeal muffins and orange spelt muffins were good.
It seems that often the proportions are wrong. Bob's Energy Boosters contained too much butter and didn't hold together. Five-Grain Daybreak Cookies taste great, but the recipe called for way too much butter and should have used baking powder instead of soda to prevent spreading. It made 48 very large, floppy, sticky cookies instead of the predicted 24.
I'm not ready to give up on this book, because the recipes sound so good, and every once in a while, I hit a winner. But not often enough. When I want to be sure of a success, I turn to King Arthur's Whole Grain Cookbook, The Baker's Apprentice, or Berenbaum's Bread Bible. Hodgson Mills just published a whole grains cookbook--it will be interesting to compare their book to Bob's Red Mill Baking Book.

There are too many errors in this book. I used it in my class for a couple of weeks and found many errors. Too many errors to continue using it to educate teachers. I would not recommend this book to anyone, especially if they are trying to learn from it.

I teach graduate level research courses and reviewed this book for the publisher. There are so many errors in this book that I cannot even begin to list them. I could not in all practicality use this book with my students because of the multiple theoretical and conceptual errors. Another reviewer suggested graduate students get the book because it is helpful. As a professor I would not agree. There are many other texts that do a much better job discussing Action Research that are more practical, precise, make relevant connections to practice, and offer theoretical and conceptual accuracies.
