Nice Guide for Beginners.......2007-06-16
The author writes a nice overview of the entrepreneurial process. It's basically for novices but it does a good job for this audience. The only problem I have with this book is that it is too basic and is therefore non-unique because it is so low-level. Regardless, I must say that for the right audience, it does a fine job over giving the big picture.
If you are advanced or aspire to become advanced, I would recommend "The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs" but only for high-tech entrepreneurs. Even this author has recommended it.
A Must-Have for Entrepreneurs.......2007-05-14
Steven gives great illustrations to drive home his insightful advice for entrepreneurs. As he's "been there, done that," we can take his advice to heart in the hopes of becoming a success like him!
Exellent Book.......2007-05-11
Great book for getting ready to open a new business. Would refer to anyone thinking about opening a business.
Brief and to the point.......2007-04-27
This is a delightful little book that contains a wealth of useful and helpful information and ideas on starting a small business and ensuring that it is viable and succesful. The book is well written and easy to follow and interesting to read.
This is a must read for entrepreneurs, particularly budding ones as the information the book provides is very practical and can help you avoid making costly errors. The book covers a wide range of topics including the start-up process, marketing the business on a small budget, cash-flow forecasting, among other things.
The book is an excellent companion for the entrepreneur that is well worth having.
Invaluable advice for the budding entrepreneur.......2007-03-04
This book does a terrific job of presenting some of the most important issues entrepreneurs face when embarking on new ventures, touching on topics such as the business plan, funding, team building, and cash flows. Using simple, yet stunningly accurate models of the entrepreneurial process, Steven Gold distills complex subjects into simple, practical, take-away messages. The classification of entrepreneurial personalities (professionals, pragmatists, and inventors) is something I think we can all relate to. I find the metaphor which compares building a new company to making "stone soup" equally compelling. There are countless books out there for budding entrepreneurs, but this one is no fluff. It gets right down to the nuts and bolts so you can concentrate on your business.

How To Succeed as a Small Business Owner...and Still Have a Life.......2007-07-15
Great book--Easy read, full of practical advice, and great examples. This book is much needed for any small business owner, but especially those who find themselves "spread too thin." Isn't that all of us?
Great, concise help.......2007-07-03
Bottom line: It requires lots of work to be able to kick back and let your business run itself instead of run you.
But the author gives great guidance on what, when, and how to accomplish the ability to take time away from your business while it runs without you. Some paragraphs in this book could easily be expanded into chapters or even whole books. But a busy small business owner has no time for a whole book.
I ended the book feeling "I've got a lot of work to do" - but you probably will too after reading How to Succeed as a Small Business Owner... and Still Have a Life.
A must read for any small business owner .......2007-04-18
I recently read Bill's book as part of the Ellensburg Downtown Association's Brown Bag Business Basics series, and this is clearly one of the best small business resources I could recommend to any small business owner.
The book is a deceptively easy read, and yes, as Bill freely admits, it's loaded with Clichés. But Bill is able to move past the clichés and get right to the meat of the issues leaving the reader with solid useable information to act on at the end of each chapter.
From the very basics of understanding why you're in business to begin with, to planning for your businesses succession this book is a tremendous resource for any small business owners and includes some of the best advice I've read on the hiring process and why it's so important to the success of an business.
Clearly one of the best books that we've shared with our downtown business owners here in Ellensburg.
If you want to have a business AND a life, read this book..........2007-03-16
It's such a struggle to maintain balance when you're a small business owner. Bill Collier's book has practical, easy to read AND easy to apply advice that will help you "press the off button."
Bill walks the talk too: he plays golf once a week, DURING the week! He truly writes this book from expertise AND experience.
This is the most practical small business book ever!.......2007-02-27
I'm an avid reader/researcher and now and entrepreneur so I have read LOTS of books on small business. This is the first book that I really felt "got it!" The writer clearly knows what it is like for a small business and has realistic tips and ideas for growing your business the right way and ending up where you want it to be.
The title initally appealed to me since running your own business can be so draining. This book was approachable, easy to read, and had actionable ideas from the beginning. I also like that it "got" the realities of being a small business owner and didn't take up your time with worthless "exercises" or visions of what your business plan should be like. After reading this book I was so inspired to create my own business plan and start working on business improvements laid out in the plan. The book helped me find the clarity I had really be lacking and it made me feel like it wouldn't be too difficult or onerous to do.
This book is a MUST for every small business owner who wants to see their business grow in a sustainable way!!! I can't recommend it highly enough.

For the past 4 years working in an Investment Bank I've read many business plans.
Don't expect too much from this reading. I'll recommend it just to beginners.
Highly Recommended.......1998-12-31
A very consise and well written guide. An excellent reference to have at your side while writing a business plan. I find it extremely useful. My only complaint is on the poor graphics in the book, especially since the author repeatedly stresses the importance of graphics in a business plan.
A good book for a novice starter.......1998-03-15
A simple and illustrative business plan manual, providing vital layout, advise to enhance high points, which every plan requires.

One of the top business plan writing guides among a crowd!.......1996-11-18
If you are preparing a business plan to sell the merits
of your business to an outside investor, this is the book
you should use for guidance. BUY THIS BOOK TODAY!
Most business planning guides do not address the investor,
in fact, they often ignore the
investor completely. In addition to preparing a sound plan, this book tells you how to value your
business, communicate this value to your investor, and
demonstrate to the investor how he/she will get their money
out.

A BP book that doesn't focus on small business financing. Refreshing to read it........2006-09-01
Informative, well done, and well written. A great book to add to a library of entrepreneurial tomes. The author seems to know his stuff, and he is very even-handed when it comes to presenting the subject matter. Good business plans are the ones that are beaten up and re-written after tough questions are asked by their authors, potential investors, business partners, and customers. A good business plan is a living document that changes as time moves forward - even after the business has been started.
Most of the books that I have read on business plans are geared toward helping their readers put together a business plan in order to qualify for a bank loan for start-up money. While the author here does that as well, he also lets his readers know that a business plan can be written in order to create a road map to success when starting a business, when seeking financing for business growth, when seeking working capital for a business, when seeking a business partner, or when seeking capital for an equipment loan.
The message is that the writer of a business plan should concentrate on why the business will provide a compelling solution to a significant problem, and why the new company will be successful instead of other companies. The author points out that a writer of a business plan should read analysts' reports, attend trade shows, understand the competition, and get to know potential customers BEFORE she writes the plan.
My favorite part of the book was the section where the author covers what is involved in doing market research. He provides some resources to use and some how-to's on what to do when doing one's research. It is pointed out that industry analysis is critical in preparing a sound business plan. An industry on the rise means the new business has potential. An industry going down hill is probably one in which you don't want to start a business. See the Industry Analysis Worksheet at page 119 of the book.
The book is broken into 4 sections: (1) Before writing your plan, (2) Writing your plan, (3) Enhancing your plan, and (4) Six sample business plans. See the Table of Contents to see a more in depth outline of the book and the titles for the six sample plans.
I would have liked the book better if the sample business plans had not been so clean. They were well done, and well-written, but didn't really make me feel like I wanted to use any one of them to help start a business. Maybe they needed a little more personal feeling or reasoning in them? I don't know. But they do not detract from the book. They help it.
I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to prepare a business plan. 5 stars!

Excellent Guide for Any Entrepreneur.......2005-05-04
THE ENTREPRENEUR'S SUCCESS KIT BY KALEIL ISAZA TUZMAN is A 5-Step Lesson Plan to Create and Grow Your Own Business. Written from the experience of an entrepreneur who himself has experience many successes and many failures, this business man tells how to reach your business dreams in a very unusual way. Unlike the typical MBA platform of making a business plan and setting the goal of making more and more money, Kaleil stresses getting to know yourself as the vital first step. By exploring your strengths and weaknesses with his guidance you have thorough knowledge of the tools you need to overcome your pitfalls and to complement your strengths. By taking his peaks and valleys tour you gain the confidence that prevents your pitfalls from destroying your business or you. With this boxed kit, Kaleil instructs the business person with very simple lessons which are on two CD's and augmented with a more in-depth guidebook. After assuming the progress pose and listening to your inner self under his pleasant voice as guidance, you are equipped to write in your workbook to prepare quick outlines for ultimately making a successful business plan which fits you and your dreams. His encouragement helps you see that true success is not measured in dollars but in satisfaction and fulfillment, without which any business becomes drudgery and is likely doomed to failure. I found all the principles and exercizes which Kaliel gears toward entrepreneurship to be so helpful that by substituting the word life instead of business or self instead of entrepreneur, this kit is great for gaining success in your whole life scope. I highly recommend this kit for anyone at any stage of life. It is simple enough and contains such profound wisdom it would be a great gift for a high school age youth to learn from in order to assure not only success but joy in life.
This Kit is worth its weight in gold!.......2004-11-13
As an aspiring entrepreneur, small-business owner, and avid student of business, I found the Entrepreneur's Success Kit to be much more practical and relevant to my business and own development than any other literature on entrepreneurship (or general business/management for that matter) I've come across. It's my belief that the Kit is possibly the best how-to start-up business book ever!
Not only is its in-a-box format compelling and easy to use, Kaleil Tuzman's style- throughout each page- is intelligent, concise, and right to the point. Furthermore, he is able to effectively simplify a wide array of complex topics in a way that's not only understandable, but actionable as well.
Additionally, the visuals are very well designed. Meanwhile, the advisers cards provide a great reference tool covering everything from creativity, to planning, to motivation; as well as start-up related topics including product or service development, business planning, team development, financing and financial management, sales and marketing, and more.
Finally, the CD's included provide an interactive tool to delve into the inner side of entrepreneurship (or the foundation of all entrepreneurial success).
This is a truly remarkable and inspiring product. My only regret is not having this product a few years ago in the early-stages of my entrepreneurial development.
I've now added a sixth book to my all-time favorite business books, namely Built to Last, Pour Your Heart into It, the Tipping Point, the E-Myth Revisited, and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Enjoy!

Work of Art.......2003-12-11
I enjoy reading books based upon Business like themes, and I must say that this is one that has completely stood out from the rest that I have read. I recently started my own business after 20 years of experience, and I must say that this book covers not only all the basic methods to start a business, but also to make it shine amongst the rest. It is practical and brilliant at the same time, and very easy to follow for anyone who has the motivation to start their own business. Pave your way to success and climb to the top, using this book as an essential tool.
One day at a time ..........2003-11-28
A friend recommended this book to me. I was skeptical at first skimming through it, because there's so much information, but with a little patience, I began to see the big picture. It's well organized. Once I worked through a couple of days of worksheets (the worksheets are nicely organized day by day at the end of each section), I began thinking more and more like a business woman. I'm now going through my day thinking about logos and mission statements, target markets etc., and it doesn't come easy, because good ideas never do, but it's exciting. I'm starting to see my business ... my own ideas. There's a good range of examples to help you get your wordings right. Generally, I don't like books that tell readers how easy it is to start a business, providing inspiration without substance, because businesses just aren't that simple. Otherwise, we would all quit our jobs tomorrow. And I don't like textbooks. This book has a nice balance. Some problems though are that it has a lot more information than I can digest in one sitting. So I'm working through it one day at a time, as much as I can. I'm on Day 23. Another complaint I have, I guess, not about the book though, is that starting a business involves a lot more planning than I thought it would. I wish it had more sample business plans, though it has a fairly good one about an online health business, and some of the forms could also have a little more space for writing ideas, some more thinking room. I also came across some typos. But these are minor complaints. Overall, well organized and well worth the money.
useless.......2003-11-10
If you are proficient with coorporate double-speak this book should be fantastic. I just found it irritating. The workbook format is a good idea, but the author doesn't give good definitions of what he is asking for. After reading the first seven pages I'm completely confused about the differences of a "Mission Statement", a "Business Vision" and "Company Goals". The definitions sound almost identical but the author insists that they are not the same.
I can write complex computer programs, but using this book, I cannot write a business plan!
Good Book for those just starting out.......2003-04-10
I bought this book for my son, he found the book very informative and helpful good for anyone who is just starting out
Good overall book, but not enough examples........2002-07-26
This book has helped me a great deal in thinking about my business, but I wish it included more examples of current BPs. That would have been very helpful.
