George Peck's "Crystal Reports Professional Results" is an excellent shortcut for all levels of Crystal Reports users. The book is well organized. It has an excellent table of contents that allows the reader to focus on information for a task in progress. The instructions are well written and easy to follow, and examples are available for download from the web so the reader can work along with the instructions and see immediate results. While it is not a comprehensive text, it provides great tips that will make reports look professional quickly and easily.

The book seemed to be geared towards Crystal 9 and not Crystal XI. I had purchased XI at the same time. The book was not a large book and half of it contained an extensive glossary of terms. Very unneccessary as this information is found in many places.

The author of this book is also the author of the various editions of the standard 'Crystal Reports: The Complete Guide' book. This book tries to pick up where that book left off--in other words, this book tries to be a resource for intermediate to advanced users.

The book does present numerous interesting tips and a few really useful strategies for report development. However, the examples are not particularly thorough and there simply are not enough of them to really cover the breadth of the product. If used as an "idea-generator" book for a mid-level developer it would be useful, but it is not a comprehensive guide to advanced techniques.

As other reviewers have already mentioned, about half of the book is just reprinted information from the electronic help files that are included with Crystal Reports. Of course having them nicely organized and bound in printed form is very useful--but the book is pretty pricey for a simple reference manual.

I read and enjoyed the book, I learned a few things and it gave me some ideas, but in general it was a bit dissappointing. If work's buying it for you--great! If it's your own money--well, you might wish you hadn't spent it.

Most these letter appear to be in violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. I did not find it very useful for anyone trying to run an ethical business.

I purchased this book when I was starting my own collection agency and found many great letters here. I mostly used parts of different letters to create my own, but there were alot of great peices to use together. I liked this book so much I purchased it for a friend of mine who was also starting her own collection agency. I would recommend this book to help you create your own debt collection letters. There is quite a bit of good information in this book.

Upon receipt of this book I was very, very disapointed.

If you are looking for a collection letter book that gives solid, indepth letters that include FDCPA tags and other inportant collection letter information, this is not the book to buy.

The letters are very basic (people with zero experience might find this to be a starting point) and it glosses over many topics. OR does not address them at all. (If you need letters for accounts more than 90 days past due -- there is no help here.)

I will be very wary of what I buy on Amazon based on this experience. If you are doubtful about buying it -- don't!

Anyone who has made enough transactions with Amazon.com can tell you, Amazon.com has its share of foul-ups. And when mistakes (that are bound to happen from time-to-time) do happen, the biggest errors occur in their customer service department. For me, I know that I have written e-mail after e-mail complaining about RUDE, ERRONEOUS and downright FRAUDULENT communication emanating from the unskilled and unsupervised excuse for a customer service department only to have other unskilled, unsupervised hacks respond. I kept explaining that I was not seeking compensation, I was trying to complain about Amazon.com's customer service, but Amazon.com either doesn't care or doesn't have a mechanism to care. My e-mails which always started, please forward this to so-and-so's supervisor never were. I can't wait for the follow-up to this book. "How To Write Letters Of Complaint to OUTSOURCED INDIANS WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE AMERICAN CONSUMER WANTS TO BE TREATED!!"

This book is great if you have no idea how to write a complaint letter. However, most of us have common sense, and know how to express that we are "shocked, appalled, and dismayed"! Also, this book discourages the use of certain words and phrases for no other reason than that the author doesn't like them, or thinks they are overused. This book does provide some useful information on how to contact people you may want to send a complaint letter to, but this information can easily be found on the web (for free).

Gary Blake and Robert W. Bly have written a straightforward, well-organized guide to writing "copy intended to sell": ads, direct mail, brochures, catalogs, press releases, press kits, audiovisual promotions, Web-site material, and the like. Copywriting is different from any other writing, business or otherwise. Redundancy that reiterates. Superlatives! "Quotation marks." Sentence fragments. That's what sells. While Blake and Bly address each copywriting task individually, there are some rules that apply across the board: focus on the customer, not the product; use a conversational, friendly tone; use simple words and short sentences; and close with a "call to action" (involving the use of a coupon, Web-site address, toll-free number, etc.). One chapter, on "power copywriting techniques," discloses how to use ingredients such as research, adjectives, testimonials, and guarantees to make your ad stand out. With this book, Gary Blake and Robert W. Bly have written a well-organized and concise guide to copywriting. While not nearly as comprehensive as Bly's "The Copywriter's Handbook,"(which you also get if you are buying this book), "The Elements of Copywriting" is a great introduction to copywriting for most people. It covers a number of areas of copywriting: display advertising, direct mail, brochures, catalogs, press releases, press kits, audiovisual promotions, Web-site material, and more.

It quickly and deftly outlines the differences between copywriting and other writing, e.g., it's perfectly acceptable to use "And" to begin sentences in advertising copy. Blake and Bly address each type of copywriting task mentioned above individually, as well as providing more broad-based rules for copywriting: use a conversational, friendly tone; use simple words and short sentences;focus on the customer, not the product; and close with a "call to action."

This is a very concise guide to copywriting that is an excellent starting point for those wanting to learn the craft.

Gary Blake and Robert Bly do a great job of bringing the core of copywriting. I find this book more a reference than something I am going to read cover to cover. Great coverage of Direct Mail and writing for the web, all around very useful book in helping my customers become more profitable - plus improve my own sales and marketing materials.

Only caveat, the paragraphs could use a bit more space between them and some other font for headlines would make it easier to read. Outside of that the content is superb!

The Elements of Copywriting nicely explains how to write copy that sells in the most important areas/fields such as direct mail, press releases, product catalogues etc.

As a junior copywriter at an advertising agency I can recommend this book to junior copywriters or persons that are thinking of becomming copywriters. For seniors this book will probably be too general in its content. How ever the first part of the book can be used for inspiration on where to put your emphasis in your copy. And because of that it might be helpful even for seniors.

The greatest thing about The Elements of Copywriting is how the content is organized. You can read it from cover to cover or use it as a reference. I'll keep this book on my desk - it might come in handy when I'm low on ideas..

I DIDN'T ORDER THE BOOK AFTER READING THE REVIEWS AND THE TABLE OF CONTENTS AS I AM AN AVID READER OF ROY WILLIAMS WORKS. IF YOU READ HIS BOOKS HE MENTIONS "A LITTLE BIT" ABOUT HOW TO USE PRINT; HOWEVER, HIS PRIMARY FOCUS, IN MY OPINION, IS HOW TO USE THE POWER OF SOUND IN BROADCAST ADVERTISING. THE QUICKEST WAY INTO THE CUSTOMER'S MIND IS THROUGH THE EAR AND BROCA. I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD FIND THAT IN HOW TO WRITE BROCHURES, HEADLINES, ETC.

I WAS NOT AWARE THAT THIS IS THE SECOND EDITION TO 101 COMPLAINT LTRS. I HAD PURCHASED BOTH AS THIS FACT WAS NOT DISCLOSED. I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH AMAZON FOR NOT MAKING THIS CLEAR. FURTHERMORE, THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIANCE WITH AMAZON AND MAY BE MY LAST. IN ADDITION THE BOOKS WERE NOT IN THE BEST CONDITION. SOME DAMAGED WITH SPILLS OF SOME SORT, AND OTHERS HAVE BENT PAGES AND COVERS. OVERALL NOT IMPRESSED! I CAN NOT RECOMMEND AMAZON AFTER MY BAD FIRST EXPERIENCE! BOTH BOOKS HAD USEFUL INFO., HOWEVER IT ALL CAN BE FOUND ON THE WEB FOR FREE.

I read this book when the 2nd edition was published in 1995 and helped me make a significant improvement in my report writing skills. Its not a very long book so I was able to learn the keys skills quickly which enabled me to apply them quickly. I recommend the book to Engineers in my office who need to improve their technical writing skills. I'm glad its still available because we need more copies for my office.
