Great Product, Great Seller.......2007-10-19
Item came to my home in perfect condition, half the price of what it would have cost me @ the campus bookstore. Thanks again. Awesome experience doing business with this seller. Thanks
very good, well-written manual. it is a must!.......2007-10-11
I think that this product is truly a must for anyone taking business english classes, anyone working at an office, or anyone teaching an english class. this is the best manual there is!
Gregg Manual.......2007-07-25
The Gregg Manual is outstanding and any office worker - whether secretary or the boss, needs it to be sure that letters and documents are perfect. It's a little pricey but worth every penny.
Not For Beginners..........2007-06-12
This book is not really geared for the beginner; it is for those who have a decent/modest/working command of the English writing/language with a basic understanding of sentence structure but need tweaking here and there to help perfect their skill. It covers EVERYTHING from punctuation, tense and subject agreement, spelling, word use--everything that goes into writing. The book is very busy in that it is LOADED--it covers everything you need to write properly/correctly. The book's section-numbering-system might be a bit of a tickle, but give it a scratch and you'll be on your way. The numbering system helps you locate/move from one area of grammatical treatment to another quickly; it allows this full coverage monograph to be printed into a portable size book. There are no "filler text", no speeches, no stories, no editoralizing--just concise writings on proper writing. It also provides clear examples, valuable notations, and alternative sentence formations. You WILL get your $ worth! (I didn't have time to check the book for this review, so mistakes are mine. ;>)
Great General Reference for Writers and Editors.......2007-05-09
I am a medical editor so my Bible is the AMA guide, but I needed a more general reference for my regular grammar/English queries. A co-editor who has been relying on and loving his Gregg Manual for years recommended it to me. His recommendation proved most helpful because so far, this book is great. I have yet to have a grammar question the Gregg Manual couldn't answer. It's great for editors and writers regardless of industry, and would be helpful for students as well.

bought this copy for my daughter. she wishes she'd had it years earlier. loves it.
The Best Grammar/Usage Book Ever.......2006-05-18
I retired a few years ago and wish that I had taken my Gregg Reference Manual with me as a "parting gift." I used to take calls from people regarding grammar questions. Little did they know I would grab this book and easily page to the correct answer. I impressed many people over the years; and then, of course, the answers became second nature to me. I have recommended this book many times and finally am going to purchase my own copy for home. It is a good book just to read. Absolutely EVERYTHING is in there.
Recommendations for Students Entering the Secretarial Field.......2004-07-29
As a business education teacher, I highly recommend this reference manual to anyone entering the secretarial field. It provides a complete source for answering questions concerning grammar, punctuation, English usage, etc. The well-done index allows easy access to the needed information. It is an absolute MUST for office employees. Eva Lewis, El Cajon, CA
All arguments stop here.......2004-04-14
I am an independent corporate trainer who teaches people to write better at work. When my students ask me for my advice about good books to guide them as they write at work, this is the reference book I recommend.
I also tell them several other things about the book. First, this is not just some handbook that secretaries can use to look up how to format a letter. It is an authoritative reference for all aspects of writing English. It should be next to the dictionary and thesaurus on the shelf of everyone who needs to write at work, from clerks to executives. Second, if your boss or anyone else argues with you about any rule of writing, you only have to point to the relevant entry in this book. All arguments stop there. Third, the size of the book is deceptive. It uses small font and thin paper. With normal font and paper, it would be the size of two or three large dictionaries. That's how much useful stuff is packed in this book.
It takes a while to get used to how the information in the book is formatted, but it is well worth the effort. All entries in the index include page numbers as well as topic numbers, which they call "rules." The book is logically structured around these rules, and it makes related topics easy to find.
I rated this book 5 stars because I think it is superior in all categories for a reference book: comprehensive content, abundant examples, thorough index, authoritative author, and reasonable price.
A good everyday reference tool, but..........2003-04-09
This manual is a great tool with easy to locate information and a wealth of information; it is not, however, the end-all of writing. It is a good business writing manual, but to an English student and editor, it falls rather short. For example, Sabin's advice on generic pronouns and gender may suit a business proposal with "his or hers" and "he or she" littering the page, but in the humanities, this is becoming less and less acceptable. Items such as this seem unimportant only until you need them.
The GRM is a fine grammar manual if needed only for occasional use casually and in business situations, but for intense scrutiny, it wouldn't be my first choice.

A must for writting references........1999-03-07
A wonderful resource book with easy tab reference locations
The most comprehensive reference book available........1999-01-13
I discovered The Gregg Reference Manual as a student in an Executive Secretarial curriculum at a local community college. It was a required textbook at that time. Not only did I come to depend on the book for everything, it has become a permanent fixture in my library of books, and I continue to use it daily. It truly sharpened my grammar and punctuation skills, and I now have excellent verbal and written skills as a result. It has been ten years since I purchased the book, and because the world has advanced in such a short period of time, I decided I needed a more recent edition. I began searching for the Gregg Reference Manual, but I had no success. I had just about given up when I discovered the Amazon.com website. I was really excited to find the book via website, so I quickly ordered it.
An excellent, easy-to-use guide to writing.......1998-10-06
This manual is really excellent: clear, succinct yet detailed, and very user-friendly. It is a much better guide for the everyday or business writer than the Chicago Manual of Style. In particular, its organization and layout make it easy to quickly find the answers you need. Definitely recommended by this average writer.
Oh no... I can't find my old Gregg Reference Manual!!.......1998-09-17
I'm buying my second copy of The Gregg Reference Manual today since my old one has apparently disappeared. I purchased my first copy of this book as a secretarial student in the early 1980's and have used it regularly for both professional and personal writing and editing ever since. I feel lost without my Gregg Reference Manual. My kids will get lots of use out of the new copy as they write reports and business letters in junior high and high school. I can't wait to receive my new book. It's too bad it won't come with the dog-eared pages I used to mark the most frequently used subjects in my old copy.
No matter how arcane, it's in there........1998-07-29
I used this book for years while working at a university bookstore. No matter what rule of punctuation or grammar I needed -- and no matter how unusual the application -- I could always find the answer in the Gregg Reference Manual. It's the most complete writing reference I've ever found.

Like.......2006-08-30
This is a good workbook, the class I used it for I was a little upset with, because I only used the workbook twice. But it was good.
Gregg reference, comp worksheets.......2006-02-28
This book is the 9th edition. TO be up to date one would need the 10th edition. Hopwver, most of the worksheet info is still the same. Tedious and long.
"reference" and "worksheets".......2006-02-03
I have found the drills in this book extremely helpful in developing speed and accuracy.
To the first reviewer, by nature, reference manuals and worksheets are meant to be used in conjunction with other learning aids and/or in class. You'll find answer keys in standalone manuals and how-to books for beginners.
GREAT..........2005-08-30
This is a great book to help you.. The only thing I didn't like about it was some of the exercise, like the sports topic however the exercise must be open to every one. Its easy to follow. It helps alot to develope your skill or talent. The text is written so it is easy to understand, and follow. I suggest this book if you write alot because with out a plan there is no way...
No answer key.......2003-09-19
The worth of this book is diminished in my eyes because it has no answer key. After doing a worksheet one has no idea which answers are correct. Perhaps a teacher's manual as a companion volume exists somewhere but I haven't yet found it here at Amazon.

Wouldn't Live Without It.......2004-12-10
I have used this manual for many years and continue to purchase newer versions. This manual has been like an administrative bible to me on many occasions. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. S. Roy
