Customer Reviews:
Good but basic.......2007-04-08
I was a little disappointed in this book. It is quite well written but most of the information in it is available free through internet searches.
I was looking for detailed information on the tax impact of inherited annuities, and it is not here. This book is a very basic consumer guide, not really a thorough guide for investors.

Pump up your sales career .......2007-05-31
Gerhard Gschwandtner unearths gems of wisdom on the secrets of personal and professional excellence in this compilation of essays. The publisher of the popular sales magazine "Selling Power" has extrapolated some of the most compelling advice from the world's leading sales experts, including Zig Ziglar, Michael Dell, Donald Trump and Mary Kay Ash. Some chapters concentrate on practical guidance, such as the precepts of return-on-investment (ROI) selling, while others focus on philosophical guidance, including how to find happiness and success while pursuing your professional dreams. The chapters are designed more for inspiration than application, so you don't need to read the book in a linear way, but instead, you can dip in and out. We recommend using this book as you would a "thought of the day" calendar. Read a chapter when you are looking for a pithy saying, an uplifting story, a success formula or a motivational anecdote. Let it be a frequent inspiration.
Selling Coach.......2007-01-21
This book is an inspirational selling coach - makes you look at your attitude and how that effects everything you do in life - shared this with my women's networking club and it has becaome a hit
Could not put it down..........2006-12-30
I could not imagine anyone that is in sales(and we all are-especially if you are married), not having a copy of this gem. Each chapter is about 2 pages long---makes for an easy read, especially if you only have a few minutes at a time-great for those commuters. I have allready put several of Gerhards other books on my wish list, and look forward to reading them also...A must read!
A Must Read for Professional Sellers and Sales Leaders.......2006-09-30
This book is an essential for your selling library. Not only do I own one and peruse through it periodically, but I recommend it to all of my sales coaching and consulting clients.
Gerhard Gschwandtner has been studying profesional selling for over 20 years and is a wealth of knowledge about consultative, business-to-business relationships that last over time.
The Pocket Guide to Selling Greatness is full of stories and ideas to inspire most any sales team. Buy it, and buy some extra copies for others in selling who could use a boost.

An excelent help for call center professionals.......2006-12-28
I have a 10-year experience in the Call Center Industry. However, like many other Call center professionals, I find it quite difficult to fully understand the wide variety of technical terms used within the Industry.
This is a cheap, very reliable little dictionary that makes the difference every day at work - you can take it everywhere and it presents a full explanation of the most important Call center management terms.
There is a full-size version from the same authors "ICMI's Call Center Management Dictionary: The Essential Reference for Contact Center, Help Desk and Customer Care Professionals", but I haven't ordered it. Congratulations to ICMI and Brad Cleveland.

Negotiating Skills Not Just for Business Managers.......2006-12-09
I must make a disclaimer up front. One of the authors of this book was my business partner before I retired in 1999; maybe I am a little prejudiced. On the other hand, besides a spouse, who knows someone better than a partner in business. Let me get the syrupy stuff out of the way--Ron is a great guy, an honest-as-the-day-is-long person in all aspects of his life, AND a master negotiator. The skills he and Tom teach in this book are about winning the right way. They will help any organization improve its chances of winning in today's highly competitive marketplace. But then, good negotiating skills, are important in every relationship, especially those in which we can't afford to get it wrong--with our spouses and children. I have seen the results--and have experienced some personally--that have been obtained following the principles of MY POCKET. So whether you will be trying to help determine how much to pay for a turbine for your power plant or where the family goes on vacation, this book is well worth your time.
Concise, Pragmatic Read for Negotiators.......2006-11-03
Ron Lambert taught a one-day negotiating class that I attended earlier this year, and I purchased this book for a reference. I've used the techniques in this book several times during the last six months for both personal and professional issues and believe they helped me negotiate a better deal each time. (I think my wife is getting tired of me explaining negotiation strategy when we walk into a store or hotel.)
As with any self-help book, you must pick and choose some techniques, practice them, and actually try them. The book is easy to read and review (I read the book in about 5 hours), so you can start applying the techniques rather quickly. The most informative section of the book is arguably the fifth chapter where countertactics are presented to handle sophisticated buyers. The entire book is informative, though, and should be taken as a whole as you will find value in every chapter.
The time and money you will save buying your next car (how to do it is outlined in the last chapter) easiler justifies the purchase of this book, but you will likely obtain significantly more value beyond that.
Indispensable.......2006-09-26
It is rare that I find a book that teaches me something new and consistently executable. This book will help you move your agenda forward with every contact and build win-win solutions. The author claims he doesn't teach theory - it's real world. He is right and he delivers. I've used two of the techniques in the book over the past two days with staggering success. This books covers everything from non-verbals to planning, tactics, turning confrontation into collaboration, and appropriate taking. My copy is already highlighted and I'll be going back through it prior to big conversations.
Excellent submission.......2006-07-30
This book will give you insights that will move you from "sales" to "sales excellence". I purchased the book today and have already read 9 chapters nonstop! Thanks for providing real life scenarios with real life solutions.
Breaks the Mold.......2006-07-11
I was fortunate enough to have read an advance copy of "Is That Your Hand in My Pocket?". At first, I was apprehensive about reading yet another business book. It seems like they all follow the same mold these days. This book, however, is different. Mr. Lambert and Mr. Parker convey the message in a friendly, conversational tone.
I particularly enjoyed the section dealing with how to read a buyer's body language. Too often we forget to watch for these subtle clues into how the buyer is feeling. The book not only provides pictures of common cues, but also details how to adjust your tactics accordingly.
I have recommended that my company provide this book as a tool to all new hires and as a refresher to our seasoned sales professionals. I have also shared the book with my family who is bound to benefit from it as I have.
Kudos to Mr. Lambert and Mr. Parker for a great book all around.

For the first time, guides that focus on a specific eBay category
In the past few years, one radical new technology has leveled the playing field for small businesses to compete with large corporations: eBay has drastically transformed the way people sell products in this global, high-tech world. Now Entrepreneur turns its expert guidance to eBay with new Pocket Guides.
Packed with innovative, practical advice, the new Entrepreneur Pocket Guides on eBay teach you how to stand out from the crowd and make a huge profit in eBay's competitive marketplace. You’ll be privy to insider tips and techniques specific to the hottest categories on the site, including designing listings, setting prices, providing customer service, marketing, financial management, using eBay tools and resources, and more. Plus, exclusive eBay PowerSellers in each category reveal the lucrative strategies that bring them hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual sales.
For years, buying clothing and shoes on eBay was viewed with suspicion: who wants to buy someone else's old apparel without knowing what condition it's in? But the recent proliferation of items with the tags still attached has caused this category to jump up to more than a million and a half items. Tips for where to buy products cheaply and how to sell for a big profit abound in this guide.
Customer Reviews:
VERY disappointed with this book.......2007-06-09
I am a "small-time" seller on ebay and I was looking to "up my game" with this book. For me, it was a complete waste of money.
The information in this book can be gleaned from just using ebay a few times. If you have never bought anything on ebay and can't navigate the ebay website or learn things there for yourself, this is the book for you. (However, if you know nothing about ebay, websites, help files or computers, maybe an ebay business selling clothing, shoes and accessories isn't a business you should be thinking about starting? Since there are a lot of people already way ahead of you?)
If it was called "Ebay for Dummies" or "An Absolute Beginners Guide To Ebay", then I think it would be more accurately sold and marketed, and an excellent guide.
90% of the information in the book pertains to ebay selling basics and only 10% is specific information that would help you sell clothing, shoes and accessories, if you had never done so before.
Example: you are told that,to start your ebay business, you will need a computer and a modem (and describes what a modem is), etc.
I think a lot of people would like to sell on ebay and don't know anything about it. They are more comfortable with a book format than a website for learning. This is a wonderful book for them. However, the book description should be more accurate for those of us who shop for books online and can't page through the book.
Great little resource book.......2007-05-26
This is really a great little book. Most of the info is actually common sense, but it's all together in one book. It makes for an excellent reference as you get to know how things work on eBay. It may say it applies to Clothing, Shoes and Accessories, but the how-to-do-it applies equally well to almost any item you want to sell.
I know my sales on eBay have gone from zero (yes that's right) to probably around 80% of items I list now. Way cool!
I would strongly recommend this book to beginners, who shouldsit down with a highlighter pen, and read through it. For the professional seller - also a good read, as there will be things you have forgotten....
review.......2006-07-04
This was the first "How-to-sell-on-eBay" book that I have read and it was a great start. Davis writes in a clear and concise style how to do everything, from start to finish. She de-mystifies the online selling process, and spreads useful tips and hints throughout the book.
Resourceful guide in a hot category.......2006-07-02
I had previously read Davis' book, Make Big Profits on eBay (co-written with Jacquelyn Lynn), and immensely enjoyed it while learning how to improve my eBay business. So when the new pocket guides came out, I grabbed them in great anticipation. This is the first book I have read in the series and I was not disappointed. I have learned where and how to find quality clothing and accessories (both new and used) in places that I never considered before. Plus I have learned different ways to take pictures to show my items off to their best advantage - a must for any eBay seller. I also like the interesting sellers that are introduced to readers because they are every day people like you and me who have managed to make a success of their eBay business in a short amount of time. After reading this book, I feel confident that I can succeed in the clothing, shoes and accessories category.
Useful, well-written info about this category, but generic how-to chapters weaken the punch........2006-06-30
Having read a number of general "must-have" eBay books, I was delighted that Charlene Davis and Entrepreneur zeroed in on clothing, shoes and accessories. Right down my runway!
I was looking forward to an insider's take on topics like taking pictures (especially shoes, jewelry, ties, etc.), overall best-sellers, sourcing and more--in-depth info about selling *clothing,* which the cover copy says is "eBay's second-largest category." But the book doesn't quite deliver on addressing and answering the "host of issues" that "this unique category poses."
The first 2/3 of the book does cover many key points about selling clothes, etc., and is indeed more specific than the usual how-to. Davis writes in an engaging, credible, me-to-you way that makes for an easy, informative read. And her sidebars, tips and pointers are great.
I'd have liked hearing from more sellers, though, especially some "everyday" people rather than all large-volume sellers. (PS: One parenthetical Seller ID per name is enough, but apparently not for Entrepreneur. Annoying.)
Then the last 1/3 shifts from clothing to generic how-to-eBay. Too many pages are spent on basic basics: payments, packing/shipping, accounting, hiring (!) and similar all-purpose eBay and general business mechanics. Doesn't belong here. (And much of it doesn't sound quite like Davis anymore. Entrepreneur boilerplate?) It's not what readers will want from this book; to me, it was a disappointing use of space.
As a guide to selling *clothes,* the book doesn't go deep enough . . . and as a basic how-to, it doesn't say enough--and didn't need say to anything. Dummies, eBay Bible, Davis's Make Big Profits (with Jacquelyn Lynn) and others do that better.
Still, this is a good starter at a great price. For useful sell-clothing-on-eBay info in Davis's clear, charming style, buy this book.

Good basic guide for newbies.......2006-07-03
I just finished reading the second eBay book in the pocket guide series and I must confess that I did not enjoy it as much as the first (How to Sell Clothing). I think perhaps the writer got off on the wrong foot when she admitted in the beginning pages that she knew nothing about selling collectibles (or anything else) on eBay before writing it. Although I understood the point she was trying to make, this does not inspire much confidence in readers who want to learn the ins and outs of the business. Some things are better left unsaid.
And other things need to be expanded on. For example, the book covered most of the basics on starting and operating an eBay business in an easy-to-understand format, which is a plus. But if you are looking to find new information on how and where to find collectibles, or inspirational ideas for different niches in the collectibles category, the book does not have much to offer in those areas. However, I did enjoy the spotlight sidebars which offered interesting trivia about renowned collectibles and memorabilia.
Bottom line: This book could be a good resource for someone new to eBay who wants to sell collectibles; but experienced sellers will probably want to pass.

Customer Reviews:
really really basic.......2007-07-25
A lot of repetition of really obvious things. Really basic definitions of margins and profit. The book could have been reduced to 3 pages it would have been good enough. No real focus on restaurant business.
Might be an eye opener if you are 10 years old and were thinking of opening a restaurant. If you are serious about your project, you will not learn anything in this book. Useless...
In depth and thought provoking........1999-10-19
This book is a quick and easy guide to cutting food costs in the restaurant business. More than anything else it makes you think of ideas to make your own business more profitable. This is a book that you will want to assign to your entire kitchen staff.
