I am not a professional trainer by trade. However, I was recently appointed training coordinator for my department. The Accelerated Learning Handbook has definitely helped me approach my job with a fresh perspective. The information, ideas, and techniques presented have enabled me to more effectively train those in my department as well as those in other functions. Before reading the AL Handbook, I thought all that was needed to effectively teach someone was simply to make sure all of my PowerPoint slides were logically put together. I now have a broader view of how people learn and a sold framework to use when putting together training materials on any topic. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to engage the audience and create meaningful, effective training presentations.

I have worked with adult learners for more than fifteen years and have always tried to incorporate whole-brained, participative learning. This book provided some excellent theoretical background as well as a lot of new instantly usable ideas. I wasn't even all the way through before I applied a couple of the techniques and got an excellent response from my client.

I was getting ready to prepare a training program for 44 persons when I read this book. Immediately! after I used the guidelines to prepare my session. Preparation was fast and easy -and fun! I really couldn't believe that it was that easy to apply and it has been one of my best sessions to date. I refer to it when I need a refresher or a new perspective. I definately reccomend this book for trainers who need to keep their material fresh and interesting (esp. in-house trainers).

I have listened to the tape and have found it very helpfull. The only problem was that there is not a cd version so I can listen to it in my car. Other wise a great buy.

I own and have listened to the tape twice.
To me, the key benefits are:
* The learning system is comprehensive.
* Brian's voice is attractive, the approach is straightforward and easy to listen to.
* The materials are clear and persuasive.
* The music between each piece of recording is stimulating and entertaining (hence easy to absorb the materials).
By the way, I am wondering what Brian will do for young children to guide them towards success and happiness. I am a parent of two and would like to hear something from Brian. Thank you.

This book gives you practical steps to help you: really learn and master a topic, thoroughly memorize information, speed read while retaining the content, etc.
I had never heard of a some of the techniques such as mapping.
I am going to teach this to my wife and eventually to my children (when they start reading).

I have listened to Brian Tracy's tapes and read his books many times over the past years and this tape set is a useful addition to his set.
It covers many of the topics touched on in some of his other works but this brings it all together in one spot with the addition of a number of new good practices.

Succint and Useful.......2007-04-04
I have to admit to being a Brian Tracy fan, having read six of his books. This tape course, which includes material from Colin Rose, is as thorough and concise as I would expect from Brian Tracy. If applied consistently, I have found it to be extremely useful. Without using the techniques in this course I would never be able to plow through a book and three technical magazines each week while carrying six semesters of graduate work and working sixty hours a week as a consultant.
Try it, you will be pleased with the results.

When I buy books like these, I try to implement whatever techniques are given and I look for any possible changes. It has been about one year since I read this book. I can't remember much about it (hint #1 that it isn't great), and since then I haven't noticed an improvement in my 'learning speed' (hint #2). I can't say it was bad, but no aspects of my life really improved in any way because of reading this.
I would recommend this book to those who aren't very self-aware or aware of how or why they learn/read the way they do. It is a very basic, beginners learning improvement book.

colin rose's "accelerated learning" is like sheila ostrander and lynn schroeder's "superlearning", where it discusses the "learning how to learn" techniques that are heavily based on the seminal work of dr georgi lozanov's "suggestology/suggestopedy". however, the former book is much better in presentation of facts and it discusses beyond dr lozanov's work.
it is interesting to note that the book applies what it teaches. for example, the book has a highly visual "memory maps" at the end of each chapter that serves as a summary.
however, i'm a little bit disappointed because of the book's lack of documentation, i.e., whenever there is presentation of an experimental study or a fact, the author occasionally fails to cite the source, whether from a book or from an academic journal. because of this, interested scholars are discouraged to trace the original source to look for evidence.
Almost heavy-handed advocacy.......2001-09-30
This book is kind of a sales pitch, which also explains why it was provided by the people trying to sign up students at my company. The general perspective is easy to describe--there is a very strong presumption that these are very effective learning techniques, and the book is trying to share the author's excitement and strong belief in the merits of the approach. The structure is partly historical, following the development of the techniques, and partly mechanical, considering some of the techniques in isolation.
Much of what the book says does make good sense, but overall I felt that the approach was rather light and even ineffective. The numbers and evidence were weak or anecdotal. It just felt like advertising wrapped in pedagogical paper. Kind of external to the book itself, but relevant is that the techniques discussed have been around for many years under various names, but still seem to be regarded as outside the mainstream and have only limited acceptance. The book frequently argues that these techniques produce superior results and work for everyone, and yet nothing much seems to have changed.
The writing is clear enough, and it will give you some interesting data, but standing by itself, it just doesn't seem to make its case very effectively. I would probably feel differently if I had some positive exposure to classes taught along these lines.

I purchased this book expecting a lot more , I was expecting this to be a guide on the state of the art in accelerated learning with practical examples on how to increase your learning power. However what I got was a summary of all recent research and some half-hearted attempts at practical training. Especially annoying was the frequent use of specious argument and hearsay. If you are looking for more than a relaxing read do not buy.
Terrific book on memmory and learning.......1998-04-07
Filled with inspirational case studies and insight, Accellerated Learning tells how memory works and the ways to apply it. Accelerated Learning lifts my attitude up two levels whenever I pick it up. I have successfully applied many techniques learned solely from reading this book.

A great practical book.......2003-08-16
This is a practical book for teachers who want to use accelerated learning with elementary children. It is a follow up to the Accelerated Learning ALPS Approach book by Alistair Smith, but it can be used on its own. This book is well worth having as it has hundreds of practical ideas, and you can xerox pages to use. It's a great starting point for anyone new to accelerated learning but also has fresh ideas and perspectives for people like me who are familiar with AL, multiple intelligences etc.
Easy to dip into as you become more familiar with accelerated learning techniques. A book I'll be using for many years.
