Book Description

EXW, FCA, FAS, FOB, CFR, CIF, CPT, CIP, DAF, DES, DEQ, DDU, & DDP. Incoterms are the official rules for the worldwide interpretation of trade terms developed under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce, Paris, France. Incoterms are recognized by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law as the global standard for such interpretation.

Incoterms define the responsibilities of buyer and seller for delivery of goods under sales contracts. They are the authoritative text for determining how costs and risks are allocated to the parties. These terms are regularly incorporated into sales contracts worldwide and have become part of the daily language of trade.

Incoterms 2000,the first revision in ten years, contains the official ICC text of the thirteen trading terms. It takes into account the latest developments in commercial practice and modifies some the existing terms bringing them into line for use in the new millennium. Most sales contracts drafted after January 1, 2000, will make reference to this latest revision in the text of their contract.

Incoterms 2000 continues a 60-year tradition of the ICC and provides importers, exporters, lawyers, transporters, insurers and students in the international arena with a modern text reflecting the latest changes in the trading environment. This new edition contains a lively, updated format for ease-of-use and ease-of-reference.

Incoterms 2000 will be the definitive text for all those engaged in international trade and commerce in the 21st century.

in the trading industry. It's great....

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Review.......2005-07-11

This book is exactly what we wanted to order and found the book quite a bit less expensive on the Amazon web site as we ordered 10 each. I will always come back to Amazon site for such books and more!

Thank you,

5 out of 5 stars A Must ..........2000-08-19

This book is a must for every sales, logitics and shipping managers who intend to work seriouly on a worldwide basis. Incoterms are the keys of international commerce and must be understood by all parties involved.

5 out of 5 stars The Official Guide.......1999-11-09

This book may not be the most enjoyable you've ever read, but it is the offical guide put out by the ICC. It is broken down by Incoterm and into each category of obligation by the seller and buyer. This is the book that will be translated into multiple languages for everyone in the world to read. You really can't ask for more. However, if you are new to Incoterms, don't expect to understand it after going through it only once. It's still not an easy subject to grasp for new exporters/importers.

For American exporters/importers I would definately recommend reading a supplementary book put out specifically for Americans. Incoterms are partially written with European countries in mind, so there are important considerations for countries with borders and exports laws similar to the USA. The best supplimentary book I've seen so far is "Incoterms for Americans" by Frank Reynolds, the USA representative to the Incoterms 2000 revision meeting. The 2000 version may not be officially out yet. I got it at a seminar.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good summary for a book written by a committee........1999-10-27

The subject of Incoterms is almost arcane in American jargon. The previous version was less readable even though the format was similar. I suggest that everyone trash their 1990 version and take advantage of the changes in format so that you can explain the meaning and impact of the Incoterms 2000 to your organization.

Book Description

Broad in scope and rich in detail, This Business of Television is an invaluable sourcebook for producers, writers, broadcasters, network executives, and other television professionals. The essential reference for anyone working in the television or video industries, it is a comprehensive guide to the inner workings of the business, examining how television programming is financed, produced, and distributed; how FCC regulations and federal law shape the form and content of broadcast, cable, and satellite television; and how producers, networks, cable companies, and local stations work together to create or acquire programming.

This Business of Television includes 50 chapters and three useful appendices: legal documents and forms; concise boilerplate contract forms for the most common business transactions in television; and a list of useful industry contacts and addresses. The legal documents and the ready-to-use contract forms are included on an enclosed disc, so they can be easily accessed for home use.

Part 1 covers distribution; Parts 2 and 3 explain FCC and federal regulations, as well as legal concepts such as copyright, the right of privacy, libel and slander, and the protection of society; Part 4 discusses program production and financing; Part 5 examines audience measurement and advertising; Part 6 explains contract basis, legal entities, and tax issues; and Part 7 offers an overview of the television industries in countries around the world.

All of the chapters have been revised and completely updated in this second edition, in addition to brand new chapters on religious television, home shopping, satellite TV, and the every more important international marketplace.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent resource.......2005-10-08

This book (textbook) is an excellent resource for just about everything in TV. The disk included is a great utility to have for printing out your own contracts. I only with this book could be updated, say, every two years.

5 out of 5 stars Stolen 3 times... This book is hot!!!.......2002-04-04

This book is so hot that it's been stolen from my office library 3 times. I'm on my 4th purchase of this book. I felt like I could have an intellegent conversation about any aspect of the television business after using this book. It is my main resource for getting quick answers that are easy to understand. This is required reading for those getting started and a great resource for those that have been in the industry a while. It also includes a computer disk containing forms such as U.S. Copyright registration and others found in the book that you can import to your word processor.

5 out of 5 stars Imagine the Future, Study the Past.......2000-11-08

This Business of Television is a landmark volume in our practice (micro-economic forecasting for the entertainment industry). Here are the top three reasons why.

Reason # 3: it is incredible that guys of this stature would take the time to compile such an essential and complete perspective of the television business. Goodenough, a seasoned entertainment lawyer, law professor, and a scholar pioneering the study of law and evolutionary biology, brings the structure and rigor, while Blumenthal, a prolific TV, multimedia, and online entertainment producer and businessman brings the been-there-done-that street savvy.

Reason # 2: it is, after all, the business that pays for the content (the subscriber, pay-per-view, advertising, syndication, and the latest, e-commerce revenue models) and the content that drives the migration to new technology (streaming media webcasting and video-on-demand, interactive TV, and wireless). The clear understanding of the financial systems supporting television and video entertainment offered by Oliver and Howard in this book facilitates the modeling of future monetary transactions.

Reason # 1: video programming spread from broadcast to cable and then to satellite in one generation. The last decade found it spreading to the PC via CD-ROM, DVD, and broadband Internet. In the future it will be found on our cell phones, wristwatches, car seat backs, and refrigerators. There will be innovations in business arrangements along the way, but those who cannot converse in the language of economics will be doomed.

The second edition proudly bears a jacket quote by Morty Morton, former producer of the Late Show with David Letterman, who remarked, "This Business of Television has gotten me through years of moderate success in the TV business. I'm now ready to burn the damn thing and open a restaurant."

    Book Description

The World Bank Administrative Tribunal is an institution which in the twelve years of its existence has acquired considerable importance and a reputation for consistency and impartiality in the exercise of its judicial function. Its case-law reveals much about the structure and working of not only the World Bank but other important international organisations. This second volume of the comprehensive digest of the WBAT's case-law which deals with cases decided between January 1988 and June 1991, like the first volume, will be of much use to the those working in and studying international organisations as well as those simply interested in the World Bank Administrative Tribunal. The author cites those parts of judgments which pertain to a particular issue so that the reader has first-hand access to the Court's actual decisions on that issue. The pronouncements are thus arranged so as to give a clear picture of the contribution each has made to the law governing the international civil service.

4 out of 5 stars General review about the same.......2001-03-05

The book is execellently drafted, edited. the intellectual property is an indespensable asset for any firm and the said assets needs protection from infringement and recognition not only in the domestic market but also in the international market. The trade mark, copyright and patent is the most worthiest intellectual property and runs the show of the company in this competitive market. Patent is granted to the product aswell as the process/method of product. the value of medicine are going to shoot up if the product is patentable. If the product of the foreign goods are patented than monopoly is created and in our country (India) where only the process is patentable and product is never patentable, if the foreign goods which are patentable comes in our economy than such goods will be expensive as no other similiar/identical goods of our country can sell such goods. It may create unneccessary concentration of economic power. Trade mark is granted to the mark, logo, symbol while copyright is granted to the exclusive work and patent to the invention. Said law of all the country should be in one line then and then intellectual property can be protected in one another country. I have not purchased the said book but i have gone through the same i feel very interesting and its very pragmatic and visionary for the coming days. The same was not available in our city (Ahmedabad) in the state of Gujarat INDIA.

      Book Description

From the 1930s to the early 1960s civil rights law was made primarily through constitutional litigation. Before Rosa Parks could ignite a Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Supreme Court had to strike down the Alabama law which made segregated bus service required by law; before Martin Luther King could march on Selma to register voters, the Supreme Court had to find unconstitutional the Southern Democratic Party's exclusion of African-Americans; and before the March on Washington and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Supreme Court had to strike down the laws allowing for the segregation of public graduate schools, colleges, high schools, and grade schools. Making Civil Rights Law provides a chronological narrative history of the legal struggle, led by Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, that preceded the political battles for civil rights. Drawing on interviews with Thurgood Marshall and other NAACP lawyers, as well as new information about the private deliberations of the Supreme Court, Tushnet tells the dramatic story of how the NAACP Legal Defense Fund led the Court to use the Constitution as an instrument of liberty and justice for all African-Americans. He also offers new insights into how the justices argued among themselves about the historic changes they were to make in American society. Making Civil Rights Law provides an overall picture of the forces involved in civil rights litigation, bringing clarity to the legal reasoning that animated this "Constitutional revolution", and showing how the slow development of doctrine and precedent reflected the overall legal strategy of Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP.

      Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Very informative but dry.......1999-11-20

This book is a decisive history of Thurgood Marshall's actions and the effects that he had on the civil rights of African-Americans while he worked with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). His successes, failures, and discussions of his effects make it a very informative book. It is quite obvious that the author spent a great amount of time researching his topic of choice. The book is absolutely full of quotes from people of the time and very detailed factual accounts of events. Unfortunately, the content is not written in an extremely appealing matter. It tends to drone on and on about various cases and actions which have no major significance in history nor in the life of Marshall. If you can read through the dry spots, though, its a great book. You can really get a felling for the social climate of the era as well as the thoughts and feelings of Marshall himself. As a research tool, this was definitely the most valuable book I came across. If I was rating this book based on its information it would be an easy five. Ultimately, it is a good book for pleasure reading but not the best. I would have to say that Juan Williams' Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary is the best. If you are interested in Marshall's career, though, you want to look at Tushnet's other book Making Constitutional Law : Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court, 1961-1991.

      Book Description

The changing of the guard that occurs when a new U.S. president is elected is unparalleled in the rest of the world. In addition to the new White House staff and cabinet, there are another 7,400 executive branch positions that must be filled by presidential appointment-among them several hundred requiring Senate confirmation.

Many men and women who take appointed leadership jobs in a new administration have managed enterprises of one kind or another in their earlier careers. But most have not done so in the federal government.

Recognizing the importance of identifying executive branch candidates with relevant experience and credentials, the Council for Excellence in Government launched the Prune Book series in 1988. Written primarily for incoming presidential appointees and those in the White House, Senate, and media who must identify, appoint, confirm, and report on them, Prune Books address the appointment and transition processes in their various dimensions. Unlike the congressional compendium of positions known informally as the Plum Book, the books in the Prune series have been distinguished by their extensive position profiles and essays that provide first-hand insight from incumbents into the complicated realities of federal management.

The 2000 Prune Book includes detailed position profiles for fifty-six leadership positions. The descriptions, examples, and anecdotes are drawn primarily from interviews with individual job occupants. Each profile appends a biographic sketch of the incumbent and lists those who held the job in previous administrations. These narratives examine the issues that will engage these jobs in the new administration and underline the personal and professional credentials that will best serve each position.

New to this edition is a section on the leadership challenges facing presidential appointees. This chapter looks at elements of leadership competence in the executive branch, including personal qualities such as people skills, accessibility, intellectual independence, objectivity, and commitment.

The incoming cabinet, the White House, and the subcabinet appointees who are the subject of this book must have a sense of history and the imagination to envision the future they will help create. The 2000 Prune Book will be an essential resource for presidential appointees of the newly elected administration, for those who will appoint them, and for the federal departments and agencies they will lead. It will also be of great value to professors and students of political science, as well as citizens concerned with the future of government and democracy.

      3 out of 5 stars Glitterless prizes.......2001-03-05

Anyone who needs to read this book is probably not in line for these glittering prize gigs. (The title is to distinguish this book from the author's other books on "plum" federal government jobs.) Only a handful of these presidential appointments are examined here, and none of them in a nuanced or deep way. The prose lacks any music or zest.

What's useful is the book's straightforward, clear presentation of fundamental, nuts and bolts information about what agencies actually do, who reports to whom, what are the most difficult issue each faces.

It's a reasonably good reference work for the journalist or apparatchik-watcher.

3 out of 5 stars The Prune Book by John H. Trattner.......2001-03-03

Anyone in line for these high-level gigs probably already knows this stuff. If they don't they're in big trouble. This is fundamental, press-kit-type information for the most part.

But the book is not an encyclopedia of every agency boss job in Washington. It examines only sixty Executive Schedule jobs out of a total of 1,100 Presidential appointments.

The book is a handy resource for the journalist or agency-watcher. It's valuable for its clear-sighted, undogmatic observations on White House staff and their relation to the cabinet, as well as the well-organized introductory chapters on each agency. It includes a lot of sound background information like who reports to whom, what the big issues are facing an agency, and how it has handled them recently.

            Book Description

This is the 2000-2001 Edition of CPA Review. It reflects relevant authoritative ethics pronouncements (see Study Unit 1) through May 2000.

The purpose of this Gleim CPA Review study book is to help YOU prepare to pass the Business Law and Professional Responsibilities section of the November 2000 and May 2001 CPA examinations. Our overriding concern is to provide an inexpensive, effective, and easy-to-use study program. This study book

            1. Explains how to optimize your grade by focusing on the Business Law section of the CPA exam.

            2. Defines the subject matter tested on the Business Law section of the CPA exam.

            3. Outlines all of the subject matter tested on the Business Law section in 20 easy-to-use study units.

            4. Presents multiple-choice questions from recent CPA examinations to prepare you for business law questions in future CPA exams. Our answer explanations are presented to the immediate right of each question for your convenience. Two bookmarks are provided at the back of the book, to be used to cover the answer explanations as you study the multiple-choice questions.

            5. Provides selected OOF (other objective format) questions on which you can practice your question answering technique. Although you should rely on multiple-choice questions to test your knowledge and help you study, you should also practice answering business law OOF questions to perfect your question answering technique.

            6. Includes selected essay questions for you to practice answering. Although essay questions are less efficient than multiple-choice questions for studying and knowledge testing, you must practice answering selected essay questions until you have perfected your question answering technique as it applies to business law essay questions.

The outline format, spacing, and the question and answer formats in this book are designed to facilitate readability, learning, and understanding.
