Book Description
America's most sought-after executive coach shows how to climb the last few rungs of the ladderThe corporate world is filled with executives, men and women who have worked hard for years to reach the upper levels of management. They're intelligent, skilled, and even charismatic. But only a handful of them will ever reach the pinnacle -- and as executive coach Marshall Goldsmith shows in this book, subtle nuances make all the difference. These are small "transactional flaws" performed by one person against another (as simple as not saying thank you enough), which lead to negative perceptions that can hold any executive back. Using Goldsmith's straightforward, jargonfree advice, it's amazingly easy behavior to change.Executives who hire Goldsmith for one-on-one coaching pay $250,000 for the privilege. With this book, his help is available for 1/10,000th of the price.

Grow the leader inside.......2007-10-14
At the top everyone is smart and accomplished - ok, feel free to argue this one - but all else being equal, Goldsmith argues that it is our behavioral issues and people skills that will ultimate determine how high we can go. Our ability to listen, solicit feedback, identify our behavioral flaws and shift the focus from ourselves to others are integral components of our career path. The author provides a great overview of the most common personality pitfalls and behavioral issues and offers many suggestions to help us improve. An interesting read and well worth everyone's time.
Insightful thoughts based on proven approaches.......2007-10-12
Goldsmith has managed to sustain his edge as a thought leader without unnecessary academic exaggeration. This book is an excellent read for leaders at all levels, and even those who are not. It provides thoughtful lessons on professional and personal development that will resonate with all. I will share it and the book Understanding: Train of Thought with all of my students.
What Got You Here Won't Get You There.......2007-10-09
This is an excellent tool for personal development. If you have a highly successful team, this book is a "must read" for all of them! It will take your staff to new levels of personal development.
Leadership Development 101.......2007-10-03
I have coached over 500 individuals over the last 10 years. I do referral only business. After reading Marshall's book, I felt as if someone punched me hard in the stomach! I at first wanted to dismiss his premise that leaders want to win, be right, and generally look good. Was that me? After careful reflection and becoming introspective, I found Marshall's insights profound, and so simple, not only as a coach, but also as a manager in business. I now use the book as a reference book, and have purchased two copies. For me it's a must read for anyone interested in their personal development, or the development of others.
Good, but not the whole story.......2007-09-16
Bo Burlingham's book offers an interesting look at the ultimate objectives of privately held businesses. Each case is unique and engaging. However, I think Bo could have spent more time discussing exit strategies. Some of the owners stuck with their companies when they could have cashed out and do an even bigger, better company with the proceeds. Risk has to be considered and the failure to more heavily weight this aspect is the only issues I have with Mr. Burlingham's book. I will pass it along to others.

If there's anyone qualified to write a self-help book on success, it's Jack Canfield, who's worked his way from scraping by as a teacher to holding a Guinness world record for having seven books simultaneously on The New York Times® Best Sellers list.
As a coauthor of the Chicken Soup for the Soul® series, he's sold more than 80 million books, and now lives "in a beautiful California estate" with his days of dining on spaghetti and tomato paste long behind him. "All you have to do is decide what it is you want, believe you deserve it, and practice the principles in this book," he says, and success is yours.
His advice is straightforward (examples: "reject rejection" and "surround yourself with successful people"), but rather derivative, with quotes from the likes of JFK, Colin Powell, Aldous Huxley, and fellow motivation author Napoleon Hill.Canfield's definition of success is primarily monetary, and he includes plenty of anecdotes depicting average folks who saved themselves from the brink of bankruptcy after following his principles. He could tone down the braggadocio; readers don't need to know that he's stayed in resorts in Hawaii, Italy, Australia, and Morocco. Despite those gripes, his cheerleader-caliber enthusiasm should benefit anyone looking to improve their lot in life. --Erica Jorgensen

Excellent.......2007-10-19
This book is awesome. I wasn't expecting it to be this good and I haven't been able to put it down. I've read hundreds of these types of books and this one is definitely in my top 10. I bought a copy for a family member and it has changed her life.
Fantastic Book!.......2007-10-18
This book is just fantastic. It gives you the steps you need to take and the mindset to accomplish any goals in life.
I have already purchased 4 copies as gifts to friends and family!
A Landmark.......2007-10-11
This is the thickest self help book I ever read, 435 pages of content. However, it's a real page turner. I finished it within two days and learned a lot. I like the detailed breakdown (64 principles/chapters), the good stories and quotes supporting each principle, and the excellent writing skill of the author. It's no exaggeration to describe this as the shortcut/summary/spirit of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series. I had read over 50 self help books and I seldom rate one five star. But this book and the book Understanding: Train of Thought, are the only two that deserve it.
Apply Jack's Principles to Your Presentations.......2007-10-08
Jack emphasizes the point that the human brain only understands pictures and positive statements. I was excited to read this because that is what I coach my clients to do--create pictures of what you want your audiences to do and get away from dry statistics and graphs and tables on slide after slide. When you generate a visual in the minds of your audiences, they will remember you and your message. And that will go a long way towards achieveing the success you are reading this book for.
Are you ready to change your life?.......2007-10-05
Then get this book. This book is a big book, and worth the read. In my opinion, it's the bible for success. I believe in it so much, I now follow Jack's format to coach my clients because it's logical and concise. If you want success in your personal growth, then read the book, and after you have finished, reread it. Good luck in your journey!

Book Description
No is perhaps the most important and certainly the most powerful word in the language. Every day we find ourselves in situations where we need to say No–to people at work, at home, and in our communities–because No is the word we must use to protect ourselves and to stand up for everything and everyone that matters to us.
But as we all know, the wrong No can also destroy what we most value by alienating and angering people. That’s why saying No the right way is crucial. The secret to saying No without destroying relationships lies in the art of the Positive No, a proven technique that anyone can learn.
This indispensable book gives you a simple three-step method for saying a Positive No. It will show you how to assert and defend your key interests; how to make your No firm and strong; how to resist the other side’s aggression and manipulation; and how to do all this while still getting to Yes. In the end, the Positive No will help you get not just to any Yes but to the right Yes, the one that truly serves your interests.
Based on William Ury’s celebrated Harvard University course for managers and professionals,
The Power of a Positive No offers concrete advice and practical examples for saying No in virtually any situation. Whether you need to say No to your customer or your coworker, your employee or your CEO, your child or your spouse, you will find in this book the secret to saying No clearly, respectfully, and effectively.
In today’s world of high stress and limitless choices, the pressure to give in and say Yes grows greater every day, producing overload and overwork, expanding e-mail and eroding ethics. Never has No been more needed. A Positive No has the power to profoundly transform our lives by enabling us to say Yes to what counts–our own needs, values, and priorities.
Understood this way, No is the new Yes. And the Positive No may be the most valuable life skill you’ll ever learn!

Your Review.......2007-09-24
Wow, Mr. Ury hits the nail on the head and drives it clear home, unlocking the magic of what makes a good negotiator! Negotiation can be complex if you think about it. I truly appreciate the length Mr. Ury has gone to in order to make this so simple. Mr. Ury walks through step by step, coaching you and giving you a wealth of useful information. It's almost as though he's learned everything and woven it into one seamless, highly effective production. This book did more for my negotiations with less confusion then any other book I have ever read, period! It's far superior for someone who is truly trying to do better on this subject and is not sure how or where to go. If only this were available when I was a kid; or better yet, when my parents were kids! Perhaps this would be the bible of negotiation...
Dissapointed.......2007-08-02
I found this book is to over analytical of the simple word "no"....the author tries to prove it's importance, however he does it in a dry, wordy, and uninteresting manner. I wish there were more examples in it, to save time from reading the whole thing. The basics point is a "good" no is actually:
yes
no
yes
...now you know the no secret (haha), so save yourself some money and say NO to this book!
The Power of a Positive No: How to Say No and Still Get to Yes.......2007-07-19
No. Such a simple word yet it's so hard to use. Most of us take on far too much because we are afraid to say no and for good reason. We've all had experiences were we did actually muster the courage to say no and felt extremely guilty afterwards. Moreover, the person who we said no to often gets mad at us and that simple word starts a huge drama. In the end, it would have been much easier just to shut our mouths.
Evidentially, our problem wasn't saying the word but in how we go about saying No. The Power of a Positive No states that No actually starts with a Yes. Sounds confusing? Not really. This Yes is basically an affirmation of what you want to do rather than focusing on the negative. I want to spend time with my family at the beach rather than doing overtime this weekend. Thus, your aim now becomes how to get that time with your family. After that realization, the whole tone of the conversation changes. You can be more open and respectful of the other person while still being strong in what is most important to you. Some very useful skills to possess.
Good Life Habit to Learn and Use.......2007-06-30
The book guides the reader through the three-part process to prepare, deliver and follow through in getting to a positive No. No doesn't come easy especially when trying to please a client who asks to move up the delivery date. You're afraid to say No because it means losing future business, respect and perhaps, your job.
_The Power of a Positive No_ not only helps you improve your negotiating skills in such work situations, but it also applies to your personal life. With the tips in the book, you won't fear the consequences of saying No and you'll find ways to make the situation work out for everyone.
Have you fallen into one of the three-A trap? Tripping up in one of these traps means the person takes steps Accommodate, Attack or Avoid when encountering a No situation. These traps won't make anyone in the situation feel good about the solution. Accommodate means saying Yes when we want to say No. Attack means saying no poorly. Avoid means saying nothing at all and not taking care of the problem.
The book digs up situations that you know you could've handled better. Applying the concepts from the book to past situations will prepare you for doing better next time without worry of blowback. Self-help books face the challenge of encouraging their readers to change. The idea of a positive no sounds difficult -- and it isn't easy either -- will come to readers if they take the time to understand and apply Ury's advice. Don't expect bandage style advice that can fix anything with a simple stick-on.
Of course, you could prepare and set up a great response for a positive no, but what if the requestor doesn't take no for an answer? Ury shows how to prepare Plan B, a backup plan. He also shares a decent amount of real-life examples, large (court case involving a large company and a customer) and small (not having time to help), of how people handled such situations.
Crack the book and it takes no time to become engrossed in Ury's clear and breezy writing style. The book flows and the length satisfies. Fans of the Ury's classic best-seller will appreciate this one and won't feel a sense of déjà vu in having read _Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In_.
To be read in a learning mode.......2007-06-27
Brings to you the kind of advice "you already know...", but in reality do not regularly use, at least in a conscious manner. To make it more than a good plane reading you must be slow at going through it and acquire the trade through practice.

Book Description
“One of the most admired men in the world of seduction” (The New York Times) teaches average guys how to approach, attract and begin intimate relationships with beautiful women
For every man who always wondered why some guys have all the luck, Mystery, considered by many to be the world’s greatest pickup artist, finally reveals his secrets for finding and forming relationships with some of the world’s most beautiful women. Mystery gained mainstream attention for his role in Neil Strauss’s New York Times bestselling exposé, The Game. Now he has written the definitive handbook on the art of the pickup.
He developed his unique method over years of observing social dynamics and interacting with women in clubs to learn how to overcome the guard shield that many women use to deflect come-ons from "average frustrated chumps."
His tips include:
*Give more attention to her less attractive friend at first, so your target will get jealous and try to win your attention.
*Always approach a target within 3 seconds of noticing her. If a woman senses your hesitation, her perception of your value will be lower.
*Don't be picky. Approach as many groups of people in a bar as you can and entertain them with fun conversation. As you move about the room, positive perception of you will grow. Now it's easy to meet anyone you want.
*Smile. Guys who don't get laid, don't smile.

this is a rough read. i have not got through the whole thing yet. maybe i will drink one afternoon and finish it. there are other books on the subject that look like they could be better. some even under amazon's customers who bought this feature. i was hoping this book was going to add to what i read in the game. i have not really sought out any others. but if you are looking to be really good at picking up girls, read the game and mock them. the pick up guys in that book really did their homework on human and natural behavior and emotions. it is too much work for me. i am either too proud to go any further, or maybe too fearful. i prefer to think i am already good-looking and capable. even though i am single and have not had a date in... well, way too long. =op
The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists
Some good pieces, but overall - average..........2007-10-22
Let me start off by saying that I am actually a big believer in a lot of what Mystery, and many other PUAs for that matter, teach. I think a lot of the principles can make you very successful with not only women, but in all aspects of life. With that said, this book is not what I had hoped for. It definitely has some little nuggets that can be taken and used, but for the most part, it is poorly written and offers very little instruction. Now, I by no means am a rookie to the game, or even what one might call a AFC, but if we are not looking to improve, we are only getting worse. What this book did do for me, more than anything else, was make me conscious of the things in the game that I was already doing. It helped with little aspects and fine tuning things, but really did nothing in terms of teaching me new approaches or bettering my weak spots. For those out there that are shy and very inexperienced in the ways of gaming (and no I don't mean WarCraft), this book could possibly be of some great assistance, but to the above average skill level, you should probably look elsewhere. I think Mystery should really stick to his seminars.
AWESOME.......2007-10-20
This book is money. Worth 20 times its price. It will help you understand exactly what to do in your interactions with women.
Very Well Written.......2007-10-20
I found this book to be intellectually written. It is not a book about what lines to use on a girl but describes in almost a scientific manner the dynamics and form in which interaction with the other sex happens. I definately recommend Neil Strauss' "The Game" as well. The first thing I though of is that this book can help you in all areas of your life as it pertains to interaction with other human beings.
Mystery's Magical Tour. .......2007-10-19
I have never been a consistent reader of the "pick up/player" genre, but I've become more attuned to it recently as I have begun a work of my own on a similar topic. Based on the tomes I have consumed, The Mystery Method currently ranks as second best--just behind How to Succeed with Women by Lewis and Copeland.
Many of us know Mystery from The Game or his new TV show on VH1. Unlike most of the Amazon reviewers, I was not a big admirer of Neil Strauss's account, but I found Mystery to be, by far, the only compelling character in the book. He was the only person you cared about. In the narrative sections concerning him, readers become entranced. He arouses feelings within us of elation, zeal, and sympathy. He is a man of depth and vision which was a major reason why The Game was worth perusing.
If you have any doubts about this offering--thinking that perhaps the 6'5" would-be rock star is trying to cash in on his recent celebrity--think again. He has produced an instructional volume of which he will forever be proud. I think that is why some people found it dry because, in my estimation, he attempted to put everything he had into this publication. It stands alone and is not a "teaser" vehicle by which struggling Average Frustrated Chumps will feel a need to purchase a registration ticket for one of his seminars. You get the vibe from these pages that he was scared to leave anything (essential) out as he knew it would be a work from he would always be judged.
So much about women and our romantic relations with them is counter-intuitive which renders conventional wisdom completely useless. Mystery asks us to suspend disbelief in these pages and we are wise to do so. He analyzes the irrational process of seduction and attraction in the most logical way possible. These chapters are full of symbols and lingo which (yes, can be trying) but ultimately describe the privileged sex in a manner far superior to anything you will find in the self-help section of the local bookstore.
I have studied women to a great extent, and believe that what Mystery reveals here informs us more of their group behaviors than the majority of psychology textbooks. As I read this work I looked back on some of my own romantic successes and failures--particularly those with unexpected outcomes. I came away with the realization my most fantastic memories were a result of my own--generally unintentional--practice of negging and demonstrations of value; while my memories of disaster sprung from a diminishment of personal value and a refusal to build comfort. All of us can learn from this man and we must always remember that in this game, as in so many others, fortune always favors the bold.

For despairing moms and dads everywhere, "Supernanny" Jo Frost may as well be wearing a Wonder Woman costume. Her no-nonsense rules--not tips, not advice, but rules--for consistently managing one's offspring leave no room for arguments (or wrestling matches). From her arms-akimbo stance on the book's cover, it's clear she's in charge, and ready to instruct all wishy-washy (overworked American) parents how to lay down the law in their own home. She offers her "top ten rules" for setting boundaries, managing mealtimes, even surviving toilet training, and it's mostly rock-solid, and peppered liberally with British wit. (For parents who obsess over their toddler's every meal, she warns: "It doesn't take long for them to work out the obvious: you can't make them eat.") Frost may not have a degree in child development, but she was raised in a stable, doting family, and has 15 years' experience taking care of tots, a combination which puts her way ahead of most parents. She may be firm, but by setting definite boundaries, she sets the stage for parenting to be more of a "joy" and much less of a "slog." You can raise your sippy cups to that. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
Meet Supernanny Jo Frost, a modern-day Mary Poppins here to rescue today's beleaguered parents by offering up her practical, road-tested methods of childrearing in an indispensable new book based on her upcoming ABC-TV series.
Jo Frost, a.k.a. Supernanny, is the answer to every stressed-out parent's dreams. In ABC's upcoming primetime TV series by the same name, Jo works miracles on problem children by dispensing hard-won wisdom and reassuring us that parents really do know best. The Supernanny method gives parents the know-how to tackle problem areas such as mealtime, bath time, bedtime, bedwetting, homework, sibling rivalry, aggressive behavior, or a child who just won't do what he or she is told to do.
Divided into action-oriented problem and solution sections, Supernanny will show parents how to restore harmony and authority in the home using the Supernanny's ten basic rules and her effective, no-nonsense approach to problem-solving. For example:
Problem: What if your child refuses to go to bed?
Supernanny Solution: Develop a bedtime routine so that the child can get used to a consistent pattern that she is not going to be able to change or manipulate. A routine will set up a calming sequence of events that will be designed to help the child relax.
Problem: Toilet-training Supernanny Solution: Prepare your child by taking any hint of shame or disgust out of what is simply a natural fact of life. Keep the door open, bring her into the bathroom with you, and explain what's happening, including the use of toilet paper and the washing of hands afterward.

Quick and easy to read. You can easily flip to a relevant section and put it away again for the next parentig dilemna. I am buying another copy for a friend.
Very Practical & Effective.......2007-07-04
Great book, you can start using her advice with almost immediate effects. Keywords that gives this book value: respect, love, care, discipline, and lots of praise. Enjoy!

This book is easy to read and to the point, no nonsense, you will love it...
I recommend it to all parents and granparent.....anyone who has to deal with children.
Eh, luke warm on this one.......2007-06-08
This is really much of the show re-hashed. I was excited by how pretty the book was and the typesetting and the photos but there is just no meat to this. I was hoping for more.
100% recommend this book.......2007-05-16
I am a nanny myself (2 boys ages 3 and 7)and have found this book to be extremely helpful because of Jo Frost's insight regarding what motivates a child's behavior, the parent/child relationship, the frustrations that children and parents sometimes feel, the dynamics of a household. Jo Frost respects and loves children and it shines through in her book. I personally would rather take advice from a person who has had 15 years hands on experience working with children of all ages and all types of backgrounds in all types of families, than listen to a child psychologist who may not have had that broad range of experience and may only rely at times on what they read in a textbook (no offense :) Most of the children that are in the area I work in are currently seeing therapists and psychologists, and I have seen no improvement in their behavior, or they improve one week and regress the next. (no offense :) But watch SuperNanny's show and while nobody is perfect, you have to admit that her techniques tend to work, and make a whole lot of sense. She just really understands and respects children, and that is a high priority when seeking to have a wonderful relationship with them. (This is only my opinion, not meant to offend anyone, have a wonderful day).

Has no structure, no step by step, just a collection of loosely related chapters, better to get "Mystery Method" that is the real deal.

Amazing books!
Doesn't Have Too Much To Offer (Rating: 5 out of 10- -2.5 stars).......2007-08-14
So I read this book on how to help pick up women, because the title looks so promising. I read it and basically it doesn't have too much to offer. It doesn't give straight foward help, it kinda beats around the bush. I have learned some new things in this book, such as how to start conversations with women and ask openended questions with them (expect the phrase "Whats your story" about 1000 times). But basically, the information in this book is vague. It does not give instant results like we guys all planned to, but it gives you a starting point and hangs you out to dry on your road to being a PUA instead of a chump.
Being a 20 year old college student and living in a city full of females who are stuck up, I figured this book would help out. Unfortunately, it did not do me too much justice. If you guys found success in this book with the opposite sex, give yourself a pat on the back. Funny that female reviewers (like the one below me), might get a joke out of this book because they go around making others feel like crap. I for one really don't recommend this book because of it's vague subject matter. If you want to read a good book, I recommend How to Succeed with Women, because that book gives more info into detail. Peace.

When liars are being accused of something, they'll stay calm because they're working on their rebuttal; this is why detectives were suspicious of O.J. Simpson when he didn't express outrage when accused of murdering his ex-wife and Ronald Goldman. Never Be Lied to Again is bursting with tested tips like this for quickly determining when you're being boondoggled. Body language, facial expressions, sentence structure, and word choice can all reveal when someone is lying, says psychologist David J. Lieberman, and he includes 46 of these "clues to deception" to help you, including tricks for framing questions without putting others on the defense. Once you use your newly honed "human lie detector" skills to figure out if you're being lied to, you can then dig for the truth using the specific, influential words and body postures that Lieberman suggests. Written with flair and humor, Never Be Lied to Again is designed to help you get the upper hand in any situation, whether you're trying to figure out if your spouse is cheating on you or if you suspect your coworkers are cooking the books.
Amazon.com Audiobook Review
It's difficult to have honest communication in a world where people bend the truth to fit their needs. Even more difficult is confronting a suspected liar in an open, forthright manner. In Never Be Lied to Again, human behaviorist Dr. Lieberman coaches listeners to face unfaithful lovers, colleagues, and employees. Lieberman introduces the tape and the remainder is read by male and female voices in varied tones. These different voices pinpoint numerous verbal and physical clues that will help you detect when people are lying; "attack sequences" and "silver bullets" allow you to initiate discussions with the guilty party. Although much of the information is geared to personal rather than professional situations, this tape is still a good resource for starting uncomfortable conversations. (Running time: 1.5 hours, one cassette) --Sharon Griggins

A painful read with some useful information.......2007-09-14
This was a tough book to get through and failed to introduce much information that I didn't already know. The writing style was painful due to the authors choice to alternate the pronouns "he" and "she". He did this to avoid sounding sexist but pointing it out made it even more irritating. Most of the examples used were nap inspiring: "You think a student was cheating on her exam." Or unrealistic: "You suspect someone of selling you a puppy with a bad heart." Lieberman knows what he is talking about and the cover of this book looks great but the inside presentation could use a major overhaul. You don't have to read "Never Be Lied To Again" to know I am telling the truth.
Wonderful.......2007-09-05
In the past two weeks it has saved me over $200 at the mecahnics (I used one of the techniques in the book and found out he was lying to me about my brakes AND transmission) amd it has probably saved me a lot of heartache. (It turns out that a guy I had just met was married although he told me otherwise. He confessed to being married after about ten minutes when I used one of the advanced techniques on him) I'm not kidding--this stuff works like magic. This book could not have come at a better time. (Although I don't beleive in coincidences)
All in all,of the books I've read over the years, this is the most significant without adoubt. I can't say enough about it.
Great Book!.......2007-09-04
Another new bestseller which I highly recommend - The Exclusive Layguide: When Dating and Having Sex with Incredibly Hot Women is No Longer Mirage Even If You Don't Look Like a Model or Don't Make a Fortune
Fun and useful.......2007-08-07
I have mixed emotions about this book. On one hand, it does cover a lot of signs that you are being lied to, and if you know about them you will pay attention and will be more likely to figure out the truth. On the other hand, some methods for finding out the truth are really disturbing because the author advocates using lies and manipulations for discovering the truth. However, I would still recommend reading it. You don't have to use every suggestion in it - use what feels right for you. I especially found the first part of the book useful - this is where the author lists all the signs of lying (and there are a LOT of them, I think that he probably covered them all). The second part lists the aforementioned "strategies". All in all, I found the book fun to read and very useful, and it is up to the reader to chose to use the book defensively or offensively.
Excellent book.......2007-06-28

FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!.......2007-10-23
THIS BOOK IS FOR EVERYONE! EVEN ORGANIZED PEOPLE NEED THIS BOOK TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE UNORGANIZED PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE, AND WHY IT DOESN'T GET DONE. THIS IS GIVING US ALL HOPE AND THE TOOLS TO DO IT. AND BRINGING PEACE AND COMFORT INTO OUR HOMES. WHAT MORE COULD AN UNORGANIZED PERSON ASK FOR?
Amazed.......2007-10-17
I was and still am amazed at how doing the little things suggested in this book have made my life EASIER! It isn't anything profound, but it is written in a way that is encouraging and motivating!
love it!!!!.......2007-10-11
I like her no nonsense help. I haven't even followed all her instructions yet because I'm a real hard case but even with just the begining steps my husband and family are noticeing a difference in my home already. I'm so glad I bought this book I can't wait to get her other books as well.
Fun but a little too compulsive........2007-10-04
I bought this for my daughter, to help her with her house, life, and anything else. I didn't want her to be insulted, so I read it and told her I bought it for me but thought she might like it too. It started out great, great ideas, funny, fun. But it got a little too over the edge....compulsive...neat freakish towards the end. I told my daughter to try to incorporate SOME of the Flylady's tips into her routine. She hasn't read it yet, but I'm hoping she learns something from it, because she is a very disorganized person. It seemed there were some discrepancies in the book about her life, which makes you feel she's making all of this up to make money, not to share her experience. Hopefully my daughter doesn't catch on to some of it.
Sink Reflections - Flylady - book.......2007-09-25
I loved this book and think it had great motivational ideas. Hopefully it will keep me encouraged to get organized and learn to FLY.

A Must Have for EAs.......2007-09-12
I have been an Executive Assistant for 13 years and I found so much great advice in this book. I think this is a must have for anyone who has made a career out of being an assistant. I keep this book at work and refer to it all the time now. Money well spent!
Great Book on Organizing those Details Details Details, Interesting Personalities at Play.......2007-09-10
I'm not a organizational assistant, but I have to say this book has great techniques for everyone. Though, to be frank, this book got me more interested in the author's tellings of her interactions with a highly influential power broker (George Stephanopholous) than how to effectively organize time and resources.
Covers It All.......2007-08-15
This is a great book for both those starting out in the assistant field as well as those looking to become more proficient in their current positions.
It covers all the topics with good, solid advice. Some of the topics covered are phone work, dealing with paper, types of communication, how to conduct yourself and many more. It even goes over when it's time to 'move on' and how to tell your boss you are leaving.
A very thorough book that I would recommend for anyone interested in this type of work.
Be a Kickass Assistant: How to Get from a Grunt Job to a Great Career.......2007-01-09
Wow! Wow! Wow! This is the best book I've read about how an assistant can grow and not be just a ordinary assistant. I feel that it's a step by step handbook to becoming the greatest assistant anybody has had. I've learned LOTS from this book and sharing all this information with my colleagues. The way we should be well informed before communicating something to third parties, and also what we can and can't say. We are very sure that are school will have the best assistants around. Congratulations Heather Beckel
Thank you, Heather!.......2006-11-01
Before getting a job as an assistant at an International Organization, I had almost no idea what an assistant was supposed to do. I remember telling myself "I wish I had a guide for this!"
Well, Heather Beckel's book was the guide I needed! I am very indebted to her because her advice helped me during every step of the process, from my very first days at the desk to negotiating a raise.
This book helped me know what to expect, how to organize myself, what to be aware of, and how to read my boss.
For me, this was a very useful read and I recommend it for anyone who, like me, had little idea of what being a good assistant involved.

New secrets to getting what you want every time
The Science of Influence shows readers how to get anyone to say "yes" in eight minutes or less. Synthesizing the latest research in the field of influence with real-world tested experiences, it presents simple secrets that help readers turn a "no" into a "yes." Every secret in this book has been rigorously tested, validated, and found reliable academically and in the real world.
Readers learn dozens of all-new techniques and strategies for influencing others including how to reduce resistance to rubble; send unconscious nonverbal messages that are consciously undetectable; make people feel instantly comfortable in your presence; decode body language; build credibility; and be persistent without being a pain.
The Science of Influence turns the enigmatic art of influence and persuasion into a science anyone can master.
Kevin Hogan, PsyD (Eagan, MN), is a dynamic motivational speaker and expert on unconscious influence and body language for the BBC, the New York Post, and such popular magazines as Cosmopolitan and Playboy. He teaches Persuasion and Influence at the University of St. Thomas Management Center. He is the author of 12 books including bestsellers such as Irresistible Attraction: Secrets of Personal Magnetism and The Psychology of Persuasion.

You need to look no further for sales success.......2007-09-23
Whether it's body language, alpha strategies, omega strategies, 10 laws of persuasion, building rapport, self branding, oscillation, covert hypnosis or you just want to be privy to information most other authors would and do span out over 3 or 4 books then this is an absolute must read for you.
Kevin Hogan again delivers where others leave you wanting and does so not in a way that is hard to understand or in a way that leaves you wondering whether it really does work like that but in a way that is completely and wholly backed up with real, provable scientific study and results.
I am not for one minute not to try other authors attempts but what i am saying is that you'll be very hard pushed to find a title with so much usable information in it.

A must read!.......2007-09-19
After reading Psychology of Persuasion, get this book! Kevin Hogan continues to bring new and fresh concepts to you regarding the ability to Influence people. His dedication to the field is unfounded anywhere else.
A Must Read.......2007-09-13
Kevin Hogan is clearly a leading expert on influence and persuasion. He has done it again. This book has a lot of great information in it compiled from the author's own research, various studies and papers.
The author goes into great detail of how we are all influenced daily into making decisions of "yes" or "no" and how both internal and external influences affect those decisions at the conscious and unconscious level of the brain. This is about how to create change in others and we are introduced to the Delta and Omega models of influence. From beginning to end, there are countless examples of persuasion techniques and influence strategies.
I personally like chapter 11 entitled "I'll think about it". If you are in sales and have had a customer response as such, now you will understand why they said it and learn how to influence them to "yes".
Simply, a great book!

Proven Laws Meet Current Research and Applications - Reader Wins!.......2007-09-13
Kevin Hogan presents persuasion, influence and decision making research, liberally sprinkled with real world examples and humor, to break down the turning a "no" into a "yes" process. The "Science" of Influence goes well beyond science to the "art" of persuasion.
The strategies in this book show how to reduce resistance, build credibility, make others more comfortable in your presence, ask the right questions and be persistent without offending the other party. Importantly, this book covers the essentials of nonverbal communication. It also addresses both internal factors (like habits, routines) and external factors (like speaker's appearance, the environment) that affect a listener.
The heart of this book outlines and applies the Ten Laws of Influence. You will want to highlight and periodically revisit these laws and applications.
This book is a must read for sales and marketing professionals and others who persuade for a living, including lawyers. With its coverage of foundational persuasion principles and its incorporation of the latest research, it has much to offer to any student of persuasion and influence. Even the experienced social scientist and persuader will find some new tips or techniques.

An edge on the competition.......2007-09-05
If you would like an extra edge on the competition, buy this book. I don't know all the tricks of the trade but I do want to understand the Science of Influence. After reading this book I changed several little things in my approach and the delivery of my presentation. The little things add up.
You might not know what you are doing to turn your clients against you. The Science of Influence will help you understand what you may be doing wrong. I now remove all negative influencers in all my interactions with my clients. The most powerful key in the book is learning that "no" can be turned into "yes". I know every sales trainer says that, but Kevin shows you the "how" and "why" a No can be turned into Yes. If you are in sales (and who doesn't use influence) you need all the education you can get. Kevin's book should be on your top shelf!
