Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Book! One week in and already far less stress!.......2007-10-04
I've practiced David Allen's system for about a year now, but still couldn't get the "techy" end of it working smoothly. After only a week on Michael's system, my stress level is low, I'm leaving the office at the end of the day with my Daily Task list empty, and my inbox flutters around 5-6 items (previously getting my inbox under 100 was an accomplishment). Michael walks you step-by-step through the implementation of the system. My only words of advice: If you're going to do it, commit 100% -- do not ease up or the inherent trust you have in the system will collapse.
Total Workday Control.......2007-10-03
This book is a great way to learn how to manage your Outlook e-mail in an easy to follow, step-by-step methodology. I had taken David Allen's seminar, Getting Things Done, and this book really helped to close the loop on implimentation. Well worth the time and money spent.
Outstanding Book!.......2007-10-02
I am a professor at a major research university in the US. I have struggled with dealing with multiple tasks and emails for years...until I have embraced the fantastic system described in this great book. If you use Outlook as your major portal for email and tasks, you MUST read this book. The approach here is logical and work for you. It is that good.

This really works.......2007-09-30
I have been using Michael Linenberger's system for about 3 months now and my productivity has increased tenfold. With this system, I have a way to track important tasks and I feel that I am on top of my job.
Finally! A 'Real World' Implementation of Outlook that really works!.......2007-09-22
I TOTALLY agree with all of the 5 star reviews...after struggling with David Allen's Getting Things Done (GTD) system for 6-9 months I finally found what really works.
In this book you'll get an actual implementation that works--meaning a regularly empty inbox (and I deal with hundreds of emails a week), a fantastic way to organize and systematically get dozens of tasks (including those you delegate to others with a perfect way to close open loops) w/ a corresponding sense of accomplishment and feeling of being on top of it that is incredible.
I have done it all: Day Timer, Covey's system, used Palm Pilots/Treo's, etc and nothing has ever even come close to Michael Linenberger's system.
I have already implemented this with two of my direct reports and they are ecstatic with the fact that they too have a empty inbox, no more sticky notes, etc.
My only request is for the author to get out a version of this book that is 100% targeted/customized for Outlook 2007 ASAP.

mostly worthless.......2007-06-23
This book is required for an Introduction to Computers class I am taking, and frankly, I find it all but useless. Often the directions on the pages don't seem to correspond with the options on my screen, although I am running the same version of Office that the book purports to cover.
When I am confused by THIS book, I whip out other books that I've found more helpful, namely the Microsoft Office 2003 QuickSteps series. There is a book for each application of Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Access).
I had to do some searching on Amazon in order to find each book so that I could share the information with my classmates in Intro to Computers. Often I had to plug into the Amazon search bar the entire title (for example, Microsoft Office Word 2003 QuickSteps) in order to find the book. Sometimes that worked, other times I had to plug in a different one (for example, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 QuickSteps), and use the option to search for other similar books, or "readers who bought this book also bought these," etc.
The authors involved with the various books are Marty Matthews, John Cronan, Lisa McCoy, Carole Matthews, Kellen Diamanti, Curt Simmons, Virginia Andersen, and Brenda Bryant Andersen. Perhaps an Amazon author search would yield better/quicker results than when I navigated from one link to another.
Good luck all!
=)

no advantage here.......2007-02-19
I purchased this product as a requirement for an introduction to computer class. This book is worse than a back to basic education book. I dont need to be told how to double click to open a file. There is no advantage to learn from this book. I would recommend the specific Advantage Series books for the individual products such as Access, Word, Excel, etc... if you need assistance in any 1 specific program.

Customer Reviews:
A difficult book to use.......2007-05-22
I have to use this book in a technical writing course and I find it difficult to use and read, especially if you are new to the field.
The formatting and layout of the book makes it easy to lose track of which section you are in (using a numbering system to identify sections would be helpful) and it needs more white space. The author tends to be verbose at times and this also helps to "lose" the reader.
A short answer or multiple choice question section would be useful to help in review of material covered in a chapter.
The index seems somewhat sparse and a "master" glossary at the end would be useful.
A Must-Have for Technical Writers!.......2006-01-30
I had taken a course in Technical Communication for which this book was a recommended-read. After going through the chapters, I must say that this is an excellent guide for anyone who documents software.
The book takes a task-oriented approach and lists some great pointers. It gives you a step-by-step process for analyzing users, learning a software program, and writing the documentation; teaches you the basics of page and screen design, and even helps you understand the software users better.
This is the only *readable*(cover-to-cover) technical writing book that I have come across. Definitely a great buy!
Cheap and fast!.......2005-09-29
I can't believe how cheap this book was!! I received it in less than a week and it is in great condition.
This book needs an editor.......2003-04-06
I was required to read this book for a technical writing class. I was amazed that a book that boasts it can teach technical documentation could have so many glaring errors in grammar and spelling. (Maybe that's why so many people don't read manuals.)
While the book does well as a step-by-step approach, most of the information is in other books. I would not recommend this book.
Great in-depth book for the new Tech Writer.......2001-04-21
I got this book through an online cetification class for writing user manuals and reference guides. I never would have found this book had it not been for that class. This book is great in that it takes you through the 7 steps of documentation. I'd recommend this book for those getting started in the technical writing field and those who are senior members. The author also chunks the information in a way that is easily understandable. Great book!

Instructional-Design Theories and Models: A New Paradigm of Instructional Theory, Vol. 2 (Instructional Design Theories & Models)

Book Description
Task Analysis Methods for Instructional Design is a handbook of task analysis and knowledge elicitation methods that can be used for designing direct instruction, performance support, and learner-centered learning environments.
To design any kind of instruction, it is necessary to articulate a model of how learners should think and perform. This book provides descriptions and examples of five different kinds of task analysis methods:
*job/behavioral analysis;
*learning analysis;
*cognitive task analysis;
*activity-based analysis methods; and
*subject matter analysis.
Chapters follow a standard format making them useful for reference, instruction, or performance support.
Customer Reviews:
A thoughtful, useful methodological tour.......2003-06-11
This isn't an easy book to work through. It doesn't artificially simplify the field, doesn't give us the One True Method for task analysis, doesn't adopt One True Strategy for Instructional Design.
Instead, the book surveys a wide range of alternative approaches, provideas many references to different segments of the literature, and plenty of interesting insights.
I'm a Professor of Software Engineering (who also has a Ph.D. in Psychology). I focus my research on the teaching of software testing -- as a field, we are still in the early stages of curriculum development. The equivalent of a full semester in testing will soon be an ACM/IEEE requirement for a B.Sc. in Software Engineering, and so we need curriculum development in testing NOW. I find this book useful in my work and as a thought-provoker that I lend to my graduate students. It doesn't tell them what to do. It gives them enough information (and pointers) to help them think about why they should prefer one alternative over another.
Practical and readable.......2002-05-15
The information contained in this book is very practical. Also, in contrast to some other task analysis books it is very readable. It does have some minor errors as another reviewer has pointed out. But I feel that the information contained is very good and I highly recommend this book.
Look Before You Leap.......2001-04-03
If you are put off by silly grammatical errors and absurd typos, then don't buy this book. It doesn't appear that anyone edited or proofed the material before it went to print. I bought the version that was copyrighted in 1999. I'm not sure what the authors were thinking, but I'm fairly certain it wasn't about their readers. I decided I could use it in my teaching, but probably not as the authors intended.

Professional Certification Mag says "Indispensable!".......2001-10-16
Perhaps the most handy reference collection we have seen come through our ProCert Labs, Stephen L. Nelson's From A To Z collection of quick reference guides really hits the spot. If you are using a Microsoft Office product (and if you are not: its time you bought yourself a computer), this handy reference guide will prove indispensable.
Stephen L. Nelson has been writing quick reference guides for some time now, and it shows in this series. Organized alphabetically, each guide excludes an index because, after all, it is one. The navigation is easy and gets right to the point. I looked up "Selecting Text" and learned that there are six different ways to do so. I discovered each of the six ways in less than half a page; a testament to the concise and straightforward instruction in store for every reader.
And don't let me fool you; the information available in each guide addresses the complex as well as the mundane. You will find quick reference tidbits on everything from Autoformatting (a bane to every Word user) to managing Text Formulas in Excel (which most of us would use if we knew they existed.)
For you Access jockeys, having the Access 2002 From A To Z quick reference at hand will make Applying Filters as easy as cooking with Ron Popeil. The finer points of PowerPoint are described in understandable detail, and if you are looking to quell your questions about Outlook, you will find them the fastest in this quick reference.
Bonus Situation: MOUS. Aside from being a valuable desktop reference, each quick reference guide includes information about passing the Microsoft Office User Specialist exam, and promises that the guide includes all the information you will need to pass the test. Our quick review confirmed this, making these books an excellent choice for those of you who are working toward MOUS certification.
The current series of quick reference guides includes:
Word 2002 From A To Z
Excel 2002 From A To Z
PowerPoint 2002 From A To Z
Access 2002 From A To Z
Outlook 2002 From A To Z
Windows 2002 From A To Z
Each quick reference is about 200 pages, with the exception of the Windows XP quick reference, which tops out at 250. Under twelve bucks apiece, you can't miss with any one of the From A To Z quick references from Redmond Technologies Press. Each book individually provides excellent coverage of every function of its technology, and the entire collection represents a comprehensive must have for anyone who relies on the MS Office suite for advanced productivity.
