Very Informative.......2007-05-25
This book hits about every subject you need to know. I found it very informative and would recommend it to anyone starting out in management, or to anyone who would like to brush up on their management skills.
Excellent Basic Management Skills.......2007-03-14
I was just promoted to Manager, and this book has been a very useful tool.
It provides very easy to understand concepts and guides you on both basic and advanced managerial skills that you need to develop or improve in order to become a better manager.
Almost every page that I read on it can be applied to my day to day activities as a manager.
Managing for Dummies is a Manager's must have.
A must-read for every new or experienced manager.......2006-11-27
I hold a BS in Business Management and thought I had been taught pretty much everything there was to know about business management... was I mistaken! This book should be required text for every business management student. Managing for Dummies is easy to read, easy to understand, and makes implimenting the methods defined in the book easy.
This is just what I was looking for!.......2005-12-18
I'm fairly new to the business world and when the possibility of a promotion to supervisor arose, I knew I had to be ready. While I have a degree, it is not in business. I was looking for a book that would help me a)learn what issues I would have to deal with as a supervisor, b)help me prepare for the interview when they asked "what would you do in this situation" questions and c)teach me some ways to be successful (or at least not fail!).
This book did all of the above. The authors skipped the boring theory of management and delved into real world issues that managers and supervisors face. I highly recommend this book.
Good content but too repetetive and too much fluff.......2005-01-24
This is the first dummies book that actually made me feel like a dummy. They actually take the time to explain what a fax machine is! I'm sorry but anyone who does not know what a fax machine is does not have what it takes to be a manager, no matter how many books they read. The content that is there is great, but it is highly repetitive. Just when you think you understand how important it is to reward employees they bring it back towards the end of the book, several times. Ok, we get the point! I got bored reading this and started skimming it, just reading the bold phrases and/or the bullet points. I didn't miss anything. It's full of fluff. If you want a book to pass the time or make you fall asleep, this is a good book. But I just felt a little cheated. They take an intuitively obvious point like how delegation is useful and beat it to death. I also felt like I was watching a commercial for the authors' other books as they seem to mention them every few pages.
Overall the subjects they covered were good. I wish they would cut the fluff and cover more topics. The book could easily be one half the size. I guess it depends on the reader. If you've never managed anyone before, even a 2 person team then this book may be for you. But if you've led others before I think you'll find you already know most of what's in this book. Skim it over at the bookstore and you'll see what I mean..

Has some good ideas.......2007-03-30
This is a fast, simple read that allows your to jump around different sections with little confusion. It has some good tips on getting rid of debt and saving more for the future, and above all it give advice to appreciate what you already have and don't feel the need to constantly buy new things!
Managing Debt for Dummies.......2007-03-13
This book gives you everything you need to know about getting your finances in order and gives you a plan of action. The information is very practical and helpful for a variety of issues and situations. If you are in debt, this is a must read.
The light at the end of the tunnel!.......2007-03-12
Not knowing where to start untangling the mess I'd made for myself and way too embarrassed, even ashamed, to ask for help kept me living in vagueness, not ever adding up the numbers. Managing Debt for Dummies made it safe to come out from under the covers and look at my financial situation. Ventura and Reed not only have a friendly, non-judgmental tone to their advice, they break the road to solvency down into manageable pieces and guide us forward step by step. It most reminds me of the feeling I had as my dad ran alongside my bike the first rides after removing the training wheels. The fear is still there, but knowing he's there to guide me, I'm able to take the risk, all the time feeling an eminent sense of independence.
Excellent current information to help millions struggling with debt.......2007-02-21
I've been a fan of John Ventura and Mary Reed's books for some time, mainly because they are accurate, straightforward and actionable. Managing Debt for Dummies is no exception. It covers everything from basic budgeting to how to avoid eviction. I've been in the consumer education field for a long time now and I can attest that the strategies and resources listed are reliable and useful.
The chapter on Managing Your Past-Due Mortgage is going to be especially relevant as billions of dollars in adjustable rate mortgages begin to reset. Likewise, I know a lot of people are having trouble paying back student loans, and the information there is also clear and straightforward.
Overall, this book is coming out at the right time, and I have no doubt many, many people are going to find it indispensible.

Customer Reviews:
Pretty useful.......2007-06-25
The book has a lot of the reg info on what PCOS is, and spends well over half the book talking about diets and food. It's written by a dietician, and so it's helpful for someone looking for tips on food that you may not find to quite this extent in other books. It offers good tips for eating healthy, and for excersizing.
It does recommend a low GI diet, which is the best diet for PCOS, and talkes exstensively about insulin resistance as well- a great key word for those with PCOS. The book is more like a manual of course, it's a "dummies" series, so it lacks a lot of warmth. It does have some interesting recipes, but like the last review- many of them do contain items you can buy in the US and does seem to be European based.
Not helpful if I don't know what the foods are.......2007-05-31
I thought this book would provide recipes that I could make to eat better for my condition. Some of the ingredients aren't sold in the USA therefore I cannot buy them. I think the recipes were written in another country. I don't suggest purchasing this book unless you live in Europe.

Customer Reviews:
A good book for a company leader/manager to read so she's ready for "change" when it hits her organization.......2006-07-23
"Change," whether it's personal growth or failure, or a business going through evolution, is inevitable. Maybe not at this moment, but at some time "change" must occur. And when it does the status quo will resist it. And the people affected by it will probably incur increased stress levels. Apparently the authors of this book have written it for people who have to deal with "change" or live through it. And I think such people will benefit greatly by reading this book.
In a way this book is a new slant on an old topic. Leaders and managers have to have leadership skills. They have to have people skills, and they have to be somewhat patient. And they have to be able to deal with resistance to change. How do they do this? Well, the authors say by:
1. Managing resistance
2. Managing stress (both theirs and their subordinates'), and
3. Keeping the information flowing
The authors say that most "changes" fail. They point out how important it is to strategize and plan how to create change or deal with change. Did we really need the authors to tell us to strategize and plan? I think not, but by reminding some people of this they fully cover the subject of dealing with "change."
I loved that each chapter had a bulleted summary list of what was included therein. The content of the book was so dense that I especially welcomed seeing those summary lists. There are a total of 24 chapters in this book, so you can see why those summary lists are important. Without them it would be difficult seeing how the whole book ties together.
I would have liked the book better if its overall purpose for existing had been clearer at the beginning of the book. When I finished reading the book I was glad I had read it, but I had (and still have) a problem clearly describing the book in a sentence or two. All in all, I give this book 5 stars.
Solid Business Change Fundamentals.......2004-09-23
While I have never like the word "dummies" in the series title, I have liked the format and the content. Managing Business Change met my expectations. Typical of this format, it is more broad than deep. However, I appreciate the attention given to resistance. Helpful tips and checklists will make sure you are not completely in the dark when it comes to leading change.
The main drawback I found was the fifth section titled "Taking Care of Yourself" where the authors put for topics on meditation and yoga. Not what I wanted out of the book but easy enough to skip over.
I recommend this book to those who are dealing with minor changes on a daily basis. Mid to lower level managers will benefit most. Higher up on the chain would probably benefit more from Kaplan's work.
Don't judge this book by its cover........2004-03-28
Finally I found a book that shows me how to lead successful change in my department. No longer does resistance sabotage my chance efforts. Now I know how to make resistance work for me. I keep a copy handy on my desk. Don't let this cover fool you - this is no book for dummies.
Nonsense!.......2003-05-02
Professionals should know managing change is not for dummies. This book is insulting to managers. It's not helpful at all.
Managing Change in Real Life.......2001-07-27
This book was written with working people in mind. It was easy to follow and had humor added in examples which were beneficial to the content. I enjoyed reading this book and feel I learned how companies should deal with change, and why some companies cannot make this transition. It also showed why some companies do make changes successfully and how it is done. I would recommend this book to other professional business people even if they are not considering change at this time. The insight is indispensible.

Greatest Outlook Book Ever.......2006-03-22
It is what we call simplicity that works. The book is arranged in such a way that focus the issues instead of pure Outlooks tools and bolts. It is an item that every computer user must have in his bookshelf.
Practical advice for improving your life .......2006-03-07
I thougt this book was great. It has basic, practical advice for keeping your life in order using Outlook. It's not a manual on Outlook, so don't expect all kinds of instructions on each command and option -- Instead, it has steps for setting up business and home solutions for managing your life -- like how to share your Outlook information with your wife and kids while you're traveling. I also liked the part about email personality styles -- how people send emails when they don't need to and what you can do about it.
If you're looking for a book about how to use Outlook, check out one of the others. If you want to save time and manage your information and contacts better, then you're sure to find something in this book that makes it worth the cover price.

Customer Reviews:
This book made me money!.......2005-07-04
What more do you want from a book? With my daughter getting ready to go to college, I flipped immediately to the section on "Smart Bucks: Planning for College Online." There, the author laid out the whole process for me in detail and pointed out where I needed to go to on the web. Even though we don't qualify for financial aid, I found a student loan and a small grant! Next, I plan to tackle investments with the help of this practical guide. This book is not just a collection of websites, as naysayers have complained. It shows you the financial reasoning behind your web searches, something no search engine will ever do. Thank you, Ms. Sindell. Enthusiastically recommended.
A Solid Source of Information.......2005-02-22
"Managing Your Money Online for Dummies" is an excellent book because it covers all the online money management topics that aren't taught in school. I discovered many no cost (or low cost) online financial tools and resources to give myself an online financial makeover that's saving me lots of $$$ each month. Additionally, I now have a good idea of how the Internet can help me make my money work hard than ever before.
I really liked the way this book is organized. The format made it easy to go back and reference important points.
