Excellent Book "Must Read".......2007-10-07
I have been investing over 18 years with a this concept. Love it, It pays, I sitting on a very nice nest egg. Trust, your values are the key to successful plan. I have many friends that think they can do this by themselves and are broke. All the trades online will take you down the drain. I have seen it. The book is on target. It is a quick read, to the point. After reading this one read the book Elephant in the Room.
My advice to you is...........2007-07-30
If you are an Advisor, read the book for the good of your clients. If you are a client, read the book for your benefit and the benefit for your Advisor. The main focus is on personal values, but the issue of the Client-Advisor relationship is explored as well. You may be a nightmare Advisor, or you may be a nightmare Client. Find out, and if so, fix it!
Give Credit Where Credit Is Due.......2006-06-16
As a financial professional who strives daily to help my clients make smart choices about their money, I am impressed by Bill's personalized approach to helping people take control of their lives by showing them ways to create and implement a viable foundation for their ideal financial future. There are many approaches of course, perhaps infinite, to planning wisely for your future. No one method or process is perfect. However, if you're truly serious about taking financial control over your future, whether you invest for yourself or work with a competent professional, then seek ideas and methods that are focused on helping YOU fulfill what's important to you in life. Bill's work talks directly about doing this and in beneficial ways that can help you make real progress towards achieving your lifetime goals and fulfilling your values.
Solid and broad-picture financial book for investors.......2005-05-26
Bachrach does a great job at helping investors identify their own personality type and recognize what is really important to them in investing. You wont find stock tips in this book but you will find the tools needed to create an overall roadmap and financial plan to help you meet your true root financial goals. This is the important part. One of my favorite points that Mr. Bachrach makes, one that I emphasize with people I advise is that there are certain things you can't hire someone to do for you: spending time with your family, exercise, travel etc. There are some things you can delegate- financial planning is one of them. Bill Bachrach also has a healthy and objective view about advice for investors who are not sure if they want to use the services of an advisor.
If you want the book with the hot trading tip of the day to add to your 500 book collection of investing books, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for an overall strategy to help meet your financial goals then this book is recommended.
Live your life following what's most important- Your Values.......2004-03-01
Bill Bachrach's book can help all investors, young and old, to reach all their financial goals so they can live the best possible life. Because everyone is different, that best life will be different for everyone.
Even the "do-it-yourself" investor can make better decisions by understanding that investing is not about getting the highest returns all the time, because no one can do that, but, it is about getting the returns they need to reach their financial goals without taking undue risks.
"Collaborators", those who like to get ideas from, and bounce ideas off, an investment salesperson, can make better decisions about where to invest their money.
Finally, "Delagators", those who want to spend their time on those things that are more important than money, such as their health, their important relationships, and their career or retirement, can have a way to find a "Trusted Advisor" who will help them reach their financial goals by preparing a proper investment, tax, and estate plan and coach them to implement the plan.
Inside, the reader will find a blank "Financial Road Map" to complete at home, or, with their advisor. There is also a valuable comparison of a "Trusted Advisor" and a "Salesperson" to help in the selection of someone to help implement the plan.
Bill Bachrach has developed this approach over the last fifteen years. Bill has been recognized as one of the most influencial people in the financial services industry in the U.S.A. He has coached hundreds of advisors in North America and around the world in his process. His stated goal is to help change the financial services industry to become more client oriented.

What I expected.......2007-08-29
It helps to see budgets in black and white and be reminded how simple it is supposed to be for us.
A Must Read!.......2007-05-15
Dave Ramsey hits it on the head - I wish I had read it at 18 years old. Personal money management can be tough, but this book (as well as all the Dave Ramsey books) gives very clear, concise instruction on how to manage your life's fortune (or how to create a life's fortune).
He is hysterical and animated - It's easy, fun reading.
Helping me control my spending.......2007-05-08
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a little dated. I bought this book along with Financial Peace Revisited, and I found this one to be more helpful. It is just the basics/outline of the book, but he actually gives examples so you can build your budget worksheets, which i found really helpful.
Having said all that, I highly recommend the books to anyone that doesn't have a written budget. I thought I had one, albeit in my head, but it turned out that I had no idea where our money was going. I was in shock when I really started tracking our spending and found that we were overspending in areas we didn't need to. Now we use cash and our debit card, instead of our credit card and I feel I'm in much more control of our money. One of these days we'll be out of debt...
The Workbook that Works.......2007-05-07
You can not go wrong with Dave Ramsey's advice. With this Step by Step guide, as a companion to the Total Money Makeover, Dave puts you in control of your finances to achieve total freedom from Debt and build wealth. A must have if you want to be free - as Dave Says "Replace your BMW with a Paid Off Mortgage".(and all debts)!
The Financial Peace Planner: A step-by step guide to restoring your family's financial health.......2007-01-04
This is a must have tool for anyone wishing to better their financial position.

Helpful for CFP.......2007-06-29
I agree with a previous comment about the lack of editing and copyediting that was done with this book. There are quite a few mechanical errors. However, this book gives you the bare bones run done of what to expect in fundamentals for the Certified Financial Planner exam. My course used this book and I passed the exam on the first try. If you are interested in this book and becoming a CFP, I would also highly recommend the "Understanding Your Financial Calculator" workbook from BISYS.
perhaps the worst textbook I've ever read.......2006-09-26
***I would urge anyone considering taking a course in financial planning to avoid any class that uses this textbook -- it's THAT bad.***
I'm taking a financial planning class and this is the required textbook. I don't know why the instructors chose to use this book -- it's awful. Perhaps one of the worst textbooks I've ever seen. The instructors must be getting a kick-back from the publisher -- that's the only thing that would explain their selection.
At first glance, the book looks interesting and seems well put-together. Flip through and you'll find they have plenty of charts, graphs, and tables, and everything looks official and authoritative. However, once you actually start reading, you realize that the authors are *hacks* who don't know what they are talking about and have chosen to try to hide their own ignorance by being as evasive, wishy-washy and obscure as possible. Chapter 18 (on Ethics), consists entirely of legalese. There's no chance for a non-lawyer to make any sense of this section.
The other chapters are equally bad. Chapter 2 (a basic review of Econ 101) has references to the wrong figures, and many of the captions along the side of the page appear to have been accidentally cropped, so that they don't form a complete (or coherent) sentence. And it's clear the publishers didn't bother to hire an editor to do a basic mechanical check to make sure the document looked ok before sending it to print. I think they must have run a spell-check, because I'm not finding spelling errors, but I am finding that the spell-check didn't catch correctly-spelled words that are in the wrong place, thus creating sentences that make no sense. (A $10/hour editor would have caught this stuff.)
And the writing is also very poor. "Strunk & White's Elements of Style" is the bible that your high school English teacher probably gave you to help you avoid the basic pitfalls of composition. But it seems that these authors couldn't procure a copy because they violate just about every rule in the book.
- Passive voice? (yes!)
- over-use of jargon? (check!)
- long sentences that must be read many times before they make sense? (yes)
I'm looking to switch careers and get into financial planning. This course is required reading, thus I'm locked into 10 weeks with this awful book. That's about 800 pages of small print that I have to "master," Or about 80 hours of time devoted to this awful book. And I would gladly spend time reading something that was put together with care and concern, but these authors clearly have *no* respect for their audience.
I would urge anyone considering taking a course in financial planning to avoid any class that uses this textbook. I can't speak to the quality of the other books, but this one is absolutely awful. Being asked to read this book actually feels like an insult.

Keeps getting better!.......2005-12-01
If you are looking for a complete and easy to use "bible" for the financial planner or are a student of financial planning this book is probably my favorite. It is COMPLETE. I used this book years ago as an instructor and found that I kept it as a reference to use in my practice.
I recently received the latest edition as a gift to replace my shopworn copy and find to it to be up to date, easy to use and still the first book I grab when I need to reference something that I have forgotten over the years or simply don't know.
I appreciate the depth of this book and recommend it to my fellow planners as the best book to own for good, quick answers or to students who really want to know the subject matter in a complete way.
Before you order keep in mind this isn't a quick read, it's a BIG book and full of information.
The consumate book that covers all your financial planning questions .......2005-11-27
If you look at the information notated in the table of contents alone, you can see why I say this. The breadth of the financial planning topics covered is simply fantastic.
If you are already in the field or are working towards attaining your CFP, there is alot of information to try to retain to be an efficient advisor to your clients. This book will assist you in your endeavor to retain this knowledge and give you one place to find same.
I have had fellow CFP students that are already in related professions comment to me they have used this book on a few occassions with in weeks of getting it. I believe actual use is the best recommendation a book like this can get. This is why I am getting another copy of this book to give as a present, to a friend who is an agent for a major Illinois insurance company.
I have also had the good fortune to meet the lead author, Sid Mittra, in person and was impressed with his true personal passion and interest in assembling experts in areas to supplement his own knowledge to bring us the best book on Practicing Financial Planning he could.

Customer Reviews:
More editing needed but has some worthwhile insights.......2005-07-10
At 253 pages the material would have better fit 150 though presumably the book would then be too short to market as a "Financial Planner's Bible". Rattiner is repetitious and shamelessly self promoting. The latter, in fairness, is probably common to the genre.
Rattiner, though, is clearly a smart guy. The chapter on using Form 1040 to uncover client financial planning opportunities was meaty and insightful. There were also quite a few other interesting tidbits buried amidst the clutter.
Valuable Tools for Experienced Advisors.......2002-10-31
This is an excellent successor to Jeff's earlier book on getting started in financial planning. There is great material, but because every reader has a substantially different background, a lot of it is not immediately applicable. But the critical issue is that SOME of the very well organized checklists and tools will be precisely what the reader needs, and needs now. Some of the Bible will be very useful later. The firm-wide self-assessment survey is a great tool, as is the model business plan.

Getting Started-*.......2001-07-01
*A good book of guidelines for the undecided about becoming a financial consultant, planner?
Starting out? READ THIS BOOK!.......2000-12-06
The author's background is a small town CPA, which may account for his no BS approach. Simple (not simplistic) straightforward solid advice for anyone wishing to start a financial advisory practice.
I'm have a CPA background and obtained my CFP several years ago, but never practiced financial planning, other than a brief foray working with an insurance company, which was an excercise in high pressure selling. Ugh! I wish I had this book back then!
A good book, except for the writing.......1999-12-06
Jim Ainsworth clearly demonstrates his extensive financial consulting experience throughout this book. Much of the information is valuable, and it covers the important beginners' range of knowledge effectively. However, his 'down to earth' style is not only irritating, it actually makes the book painful to read. Good written English is not always the same as good spoken English. Surely the man is a succesful financial consultant, but that doesn't make him a good writer. It just goes to show that in a hot, growing industry like financial consulting a book written by a 'qualified' author will sell even if it is poorly written.

The Brand Called ME.......2007-10-23
This book is chock full of great ideas that are completely applicable for anyone who is willing to take some time and effort. It's an easy read and an easy follow. As I read through each chapter, I got more excited about the possibilities not only for me, but for others that I know. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know who is any kind of entrepreneur. My brain is cooking with opportunities and ideas. My husband is a realtor and I will definitely be giving him the book to read next. Of course, not everyone can use every idea, but overall, most of these ideas can be put into practice with just a little imagination and initiative. I particularly enjoyed the Case Studies at the end of each chapter giving real life examples of how to utilize what is discussed in that chapter.

Peter's tells you the WHY, this book tells you the HOW. This book is an easy read and one you will want to keep close to refer to repeatedly as you develop your business.

Kindred Spirit Found in the Power of Branding!.......2006-02-28
What a find! I have been searching for a kindred spirit in the power of branding. And now I have found a kindred spirit in Peter Montoya. Peter not only shares, he promotes the belief that people, not the products and services, produce effective branding! And Peter with Tim Vandehey have written a "world class" primer that I believe is a must read for business owners and professionals who want to realize the power of branding. I strongly recommend the purchase and reading of this book and then putting its advice to work to Brand YOU!

You get what you pay for..........2006-03-19
Just took the CFP exam yesterday. I'm a quick study, have been in the industry a while, am a CLU/ChFC, so I hoped I could find a condensed study guide that would serve to refresh my memory and allow me to skate through. I'm CHEAP too, so I was hoping I could save some $$$ by not enrolling in a review course.
Fortunate for me, a buddy that passed the exam last year and paid $1,200 for a BISYS review course heard I was taking the test and loaned me HIS books (all 2500 pages) as a supplement to this study guide. Those materials SAVED MY HIDE!!! I would have failed if I relied on this book. The tax data is all outdated and critical to the exam. Even if it were updated, there is still a HUGE amount of material missing that you need to know. Didn't even work for me as an outline. This is a hard test, so don't fool yourself like I did.
Great book!.......2006-03-10
I'm finding this book very useful and i'm happy that it was available at a much cheaper price. Thanks.
Please Don't Waste Your Money Like I Did !!!!!!!.......2005-10-25
I recently spent a bunch of money to take one of the several well established review courses. I purchased this book since it was relatively inexpensive and I thought I would check out the materials as a portable outline.
The book has not been updated since 2003. So much of the material is outdated!! Big problem!!! Need I say more!
Further, Amazon doesn't have a worthy return policy since I purchased this. I might change my review if the price were $5 because it isn't worth anymore.
Avoid Avoid Avoid
Overly brief.......2005-08-06
This book is too brief to be helpful. It is mainly an outline, with not much more detail than the CFP exam topics list. It doesn't serve as a very helpful reference resource because the Table of Contents is too simplistic, and has a very minimal index.

Great read.......2007-09-02
I am just starting out as an Investment Advisor and I thought that this book was an excellent read. I really enjoy how it gives many real life examples and not just theory.
No Ideas...The other reviewers must be friends of the authors! I wish half a star was an option........2007-07-25
This book offers no marketing tactics. It stresses honesty and friends. THANKS GUYS...That helps. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY! I can sum up the entire book in this next two sentences. "Our real marketing thoughts will be in our next book. This book is basically a teaser (like a movie preview), with no information and an exciting title."
Excellent Outside the Box Thinking.......2007-07-02
I have read numerous publications on building a successful financial planning practice. This is one of the better ones out there. This book is not only great at showing you creative and different ways to market your services, but also helps you put together a business plan and marketing plan that focuses on marketing. Some of the suggestions are brilliant and will definately help set you apart from the "typical" advisor. This is a great book to have close-by, and one that should definately be reviewed when creating your annual marketing plan.
A MUST READ for Financial Advisors.......2007-03-03
I have implemented several of the ideas in Grant's book and my practice is booming. I have prospects calling me! What more can I say?
Valuable advice for any profit-oriented business owner.......2003-11-14
Grant Hick's Guerrilla Marketing for Financial Advisors, should be considered "required reading" for just about anyone starting or expanding their business.
Grant does an outstanding job of synthesizing the basic beliefs and techniques of Guerrilla Marketing and brings them to life by showing how they apply to a specific occupation.
This an excellently "voiced" book. Grant's text is interrupted at numerous points by comments from Jay Conrad Levinson, the father of Guerrilla Marketing. These "back and forth" comments add an additional level of interest to the book, showing where Grant has advanced the knowledge-base of Guerrilla Marketing.
Whether you're a financial advisor, or the owner of any type of service-oriented business, you'll find Guerrilla Marketing for Financial Advisors to be a valuable and rewarding investment in your future--and your future profitability.
