Book Description
Most investors spend too much time trying to outguess the market and not enough time thinking about their long-term financial futures. That’s why today’s retirees (and soon-to-be retirees) need strategies, not stock tips. Nationally recognized Certified Financial Planner®, radio talk-show personality, and author
Raymond J. Lucia shows you little-known concepts that can fatten your savings and boost your standard of living in retirement.
In an easy-to-understand and often humorous style, Lucia details how ideas such as nontraded real estate investment trusts, 72(t) elections, and equity-indexed annuities can give you, the investor, a leg up on the path to retiring in comfort and safety. Lucia brings his 30 years of experience to bear in revealing how and when to tap your retirement plans, ways to use your home as a source of retirement dollars, and how to lower taxes on appreciated company stock. He’ll also explain how investing in low-income housing tax credits can help you tax-wise even as you assist others.
Filled with hands-on, in-depth insights and practical advice, this book will give you all the tools you need to win at the retirement game.

Helpful book !.......2007-10-01
This is the follow up to buckets of money. I learned a lot and enjoyed the approach. Some sections will be difficult for new investors to understand.....but stick with it, very good info and it is now one of my new reference books to review and share with others. Thanks Ray
Nondirected approach.......2007-09-10
The information given is a little disjointed and a common theme in integrated throughout without proving it.
ready-set-retire.......2007-09-09
Well written. In-depth analysis of bucket two strategies including annuities and complex trust/insurance alternatives. Recommend reading "Buckets of Money"- author's first book- prior to reading this book.
Good Book, but...........2007-07-09
Ray pretty much has a one size fits all philosophy. He is simply trying to get his name out there to promote his firm, which is not always known for doing what is best. He hosts a Radio show as well. If you are going to trust a radio guy, then make it Moe Ansari of Marketwrap.
Ready Set Retire.......2007-06-27
It was 5 star item for me as I have saved and have
< 10 years to retirement. It is easy to read and understand. It is a practical and conservative plan for a secure finacial retirement. You will want other books to cover other aspects of retirement but for a investment plan it is the best I have read.

Lasser Let Me down.......2007-08-26
Lasser is a known name in the consumer 'financial' publishing business. This book about retirement planning is very outdated and even misleading in some areas. The calculations it asks the reader to do are with pencil and paper. As my daughter used to say "A,DUUh!" There are a myriad of easy PC based tools in the market that are far superior. I would have returned the book the next day if I bought it at a local book store.
Financial Realism in Retirement.......2007-05-10
This is what happens when a highly qualified person writes a book to help others understand their retirement finances so that they can realistically plan and feel as comfortable as is possible with their present and future financial well-being.
It is based on realistic historical and mathematical facts. The planning methodology is as good as it gets. I can't say enough about how useful this book has been to me to say nothing of the confidence I now have in my personal finances. It's not enough to say that Mr. Hebeler is to be congratulated!
Good stuff.......2007-01-11
This book is different that others I have read and makes much more sense. Just wish I had it 30 years ago.
Thinking of retirement .......2006-06-28
JK Lasser's Your Winning Retirement Plan was very informative. If you are thinking of retirement you may want to read this book first. I found it helpful, and more than ever realize that I need to hire a Financial Advisor, because this is a big step. My money is going to have to get me through my golden years, hopefully for a long time.
Sage advice that will keep you on track.......2003-03-26
Hebeler's approach answered for me my most challenging questions: 1] Will my retirement assets allow me to spend what I need (want) to spend each year during my years in retirement? 2] Can I grow my assets at my desired rate while simultaneously lowering the risk of my portfolio? 3] How can I evaluate my financial health each year in a meaningful and action-oriented manner?
All your family members should read it. And if after reading Hebeler's book you still feel the need for professional financial planning, insist that he/she read it as well.

Corporate pensions are disappearing. Social Security is in trouble. And the sizable postwar generation is reaching retirement age. With the futures of millions of Americans at stake, Ed Slott, the country’s foremost retirement planning advisor, now offers expert advice on weathering the perfect storm of financial instability that looms on the horizon. Your Complete Retirement Planning Road Map, Slott’s most essential and accessible book yet, provides clear step-by-step directions through the highways and byways of IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s, and other major accounts.
In five helpfully focused sections, Slott combines crucial facts with interactive checklists and questionnaires (those he uses with his own clients) to teach investors and beneficiaries alike the best way to save and to maximize an inheritance. Inside you’ll discover
• My Account Inventory: an overview of every retirement savings account you own, whether you’re thirty or sixty-five–from what it is and where it is to who gets it and how, plus where to put important data for easy access and where to store your essential documents (hint: not in a safe-deposit box)
• The Account Owner’s Care Solution: how to properly fill out retirement account beneficiary forms so that whatever amount of money is left in your account after you’ve fully enjoyed retirement will go to whomever you choose and not to relatives who suddenly pop up out of nowhere
• The Account Beneficiary’s Care Solution: what to do when you inherit so that you won’t lose any of the tax benefits and other opportunities your benefactor has created for you, or make a mistake that could wipe out an inherited fortune that took years to build up
• The Special Issues Care Solution: how to handle the out-of-the-box issues that could affect you or your beneficiaries (e.g., life events such as divorce or incapacity; tax issues for unmarried partners; decisions about trusts)
• The Follow-up Care Solution: how to keep your planning on track and make adjustments when circumstances change, and how to determine whether your professional retirement advisor is really up to the task of preserving and protecting your money
• Plus: the most up-to-date information on tax laws, including the Pension Protection Act of 2006, which provides major new retirement incentives that you can take advantage of
Your Complete Retirement Planning Road Map is an indispensable planning solution that is sure to become the standard how-to on a complex subject that is becoming relevant to more people every day.

A Financial Guide, not a Complete Guide.......2007-02-19
To me the title of this otherwise excellent book is somewhat misleading. It should say something like 'Your Complete FINANCIAL Planning Road Map.' That is, it doesn't go into things like should you move to the sunbelt, or how much money will you need, or medical aspects or any of these other subjects. Instead it is a very complete discussion on the tax issues of investing for retirement.
This book talks about IRA's, and Roth IRA's, and 401(k)'s, and all the other alphabet soup of the tax system in the United States. It is complete and up to date as recent as the 2006 changes to the tax laws.
A major part of the book consists of check lists that you should go over as part of your retirement/estate planning. These also are very well thought out and force you to think about things you would otherwise ignore.
A minor complaint, these checklists are printed in the book. I'd much rather see them on the web or in a CD bound into the book. He says you should fill them in using pencil in case you later want to make changes. I'd like it better to fill them in on a computer and then print them out. Once again, the information is there and more complete than you'd imagine, so you can consider this a minor complaint.

small pamphlet, not a full size book. Rambling and repetitious. Read it twice and couldn't extract any useful information that wasn't available in other sources.
Comprehensive and Infinitely Practical--A Must Buy for Every IRA Owner.......2007-01-23
Ed Slott's latest book, Your Complete Retirement Planning Road Map provides the most comprehensive, infinitely practical, hands-on set of checklists I have ever seen for IRAs and retirement plans. Ed, perhaps the best known and most trusted author on IRAs and retirement plans, takes the reader step-by-step through important concepts regarding IRAs and retirement plans and provides the reader with an action plan. Ed really rolls up his sleeves and gets into the nitty-gritty. Another outstanding feature of the book is that Ed has included the best questions--with complete answers--gathered from his clients and readers over the years. Chances are if you have a question, it has been asked of Ed, and you will find your answer. If you buy Ed's book and follow his recommendations, you will be better prepared and better documented than 99.9% of all the IRA and retirement plan owners.

Mastering the complex with simplicity.......2007-01-22
I have personally been studying with Ed Slott in his Master's Elite IRA Advisory Group for the past two years. This new book is a composite of the various modules we have been studying in depth. This book gives an excellent overview in a version to be understood and simplified so that many can be aware of the many issues present in dealing with the one asset that for many represents their largest financial position. I applaud Ed's efforts to make such a text available and appreciate the opportunity I have had personally to train in depth in all of the issues detailed in his book. I would also commend serious readers and investors to his two earlier books my favorite of the two being, Retirement Tax Time Bomb and How to Defuse It. Anyone with a large IRA should be aware and get the book. It could make a tremedous difference in who ultimately winds up the beneficiary of all your hard long years of labor.
Same Rules, Easier to Understand.......2006-12-30
I have read all three of Ed's IRA books. As a Financial Planner, I find the Retirement Savings Time Bomb to be the best. However, if you are slightly less versed in tax code than a professional planner, his newest book is an excellent tool. I strongly recomend it to all (non-financial professional) qualified account owners. Good Job Ed!

If You Didn't Know Before, Now You Do!.......2007-03-23
From the moment you start reading Nora Peterson's book, Retire Rich With Your Self-Directed IRA: What Your Broker & Banker Don't Want You to Know About Managing Your Own Retirement Investments, you cannot help but feel at ease. It is clearly arranged in a very orderly fashion and very easy to follow. The use of her fictional character Jo, made it easy for you to follow along as if you too were walking along with Jo in her journey to financial stability after retirement. This book offers great insight into a world that many are afraid to even venture near, myself included. The step-by-step approach with the aid of the IRA Primer would help even the most common person with no prior knowledge or understanding of finance. It forces one to think about their goals in a long-term sense. The discussion around estate planning is one that is seldom addressed when planning for the future. It is necessary for a person to understand the tax codes and laws governing IRA's and other forms of retirement investment, especially when trying to avoid penalties and other losses to future income. The non-traditional forms of investing using the self-directed IRA were also very clearly explained and encourage the reader to think for him or herself. We are the arbiters of our own destiny! I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has questions or have not previously thought about preparing for their financial future.
Irate with your IRA? Read this book!.......2006-12-19
Are you 20-40 years old? Do you have $100,000 in liquid assets? Does your company provide a 401(k)? How about IRA's? Are you a current contributor to one? Would you like to retire in comfort, preferably before you are 70?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the book for you. I'll admit up-front that I only answered yes to three of these myself - and the liquid assets and 401(k) were not them. I bought this book, but I was afraid it would be filled with technical mumbo-jumbo that would make my eyes glaze over in defeat. Luckily that was not the case at all. In fact, I read this book in less than 24 hours, and plan on reading it again and again and . . .
Peterson starts out slowly, explaining assumptions and terminology. Then we get to meet Joanne Moneymaker (that's Jo for short) who, after being a victim of corporate downsizing, has to decide what to do with her 401(k) funds. The author walks her through all the choices, explaining them in simple language with plenty of illustrations and charts - and the benefits and disadvantages of each. For those of you who are more advanced than I, you can skip the first few chapters and plunge right on in to the hard numbers. Penalties, taxes, and general IRS red flags are covered and warnings are peppered throughout. That being said, this book walks a person through taking charge of their own retirement and finances by moving to a self-directed IRA and using said funds to:
1) Buy and sell real estate - traditional versus nontraditional real estate sources
2) Become a landlord
3) Become a lender
4) Owning a business
5) Buying precious metals
Additionally, Peterson covers areas within these divisions such as risk management, repossessions, REO properties, subcontractors, and credit risks. The book ends with planning for distributions and quite a bit of information about estate planning. Unfortunately, I am not in a position where I can go out and buy properties or make loans or buy precious metals. However, now I know what is out there and what I need to work towards. Whether you're just starting to plan your retirement or are well into the process, there is something here for you. Call it IRA's demystified!
At Last! A Book That Leads the Way to Financial Independence!.......2006-12-16
I'm not an investment expert--far from it. Truth is, I'm a Baby Boomer who's been ignoring one important financial fact for way too long: I'm getting closer and closer to the age when I'm "supposed to be" retiring comfortably. And I'm only now starting to worry about not being able to afford to retire.
Imagine my relief when I discovered Nora Peterson's Retire Rich With Your Self-Directed IRA and learned that it's never too late to put a game plan in place to accumulate greater retirement wealth. I can still chart a successful course to financial independence. Using a fresh, conversational tone that makes no lofty assumptions about the reader's investment smarts, Peterson delivers solid, nuts-and-bolts guidelines for finding and using the money-making tools and techniques we've all had access to all along--but didn't know about!
By putting readers in the imaginary shoes of Joanne Moneymaker (Jo), the book steps us through a broad range of real world scenarios and little-known, proven strategies for taking control and steering past, present, and future IRA retirement funds toward greater wealth. Through Jo, we learn the secrets of paying less taxes, keeping what's ours, and building strong and sustained return on our investments. Nora Peterson's Retire Rich With Your Self-Directed IRA has arrived just in time with good news for us "boomers": A comfortable retirement is within our reach. And by using the know-how contained in these pages, we'll get there!
Take Control of Your Retirement Investments!.......2006-11-02
It's a revelation! I happened upon this book and it revealed to me retirement options that I had no idea existed. The author, Nora Peterson, explains that unlimited opportunities exist for increasing the value of retirement accounts through the use of a self-directed IRA.
Instead of traditional approaches to investments, she says, consideration should be given to a self-directed IRA . . . a method of investment that is significantly more flexible than conventional IRA and 401(k) plans, conforms to IRS rules, and offers the investor full control over his or her accounts.
The book compares the results of investing using conventional strategies with the self-directed IRA and explains the route and rules for setting up a self-directed IRA. Ms. Peterson also describes investment options that I had not before considered, like investing in real estate-secured notes, real estate purchase options and precious metals, and includes chapters on estate planning and planning for distributions for the IRA account.
This books presents a novel approach to retirement investments, and presents it comprehensively. It's a more than worthwhile read.
Retire Rich with Your Self-Directed IRA: What Your Broker & Banker Don't Want You to Know About Managing Your Own Retirement Inv.......2006-10-21
Retire Rich with Your Self-Directed IRA: What Your Broker & Banker Don't Want You to Know About Managing Your Own Retirement Investments by Nora Peterson, published by Atlantic Publishing Group, Inc.
Rating: 5 stars out of five.
If you've ever lost money in the stock market while relying on a broker, banker, or other financial advisor, this book is for you. Retire Rich with Your Self-Directed IRA describes an alternative to letting others manage your retirement investments, the self-directed IRA. This book explains in 345 pages how to use an IRA, usually a Roth IRA, to build wealth through your own control. It covers setting up an IRA, the kinds of funds to invest, and how to move funds from a standard IRA to a self-directed IRA. It also describes how to manage your investments while allowing an administrator to handle the day-to-day paperwork, the laws of which to be aware, and how to avoid pitfalls in very specific advice. Insider secrets are included.
The author, Nora Peterson, has been involved in investing in financial markets for more than 30 years. In this excellent resource, she discusses a wide range of investments brokers don't offer and estimates potential returns. The returns she projects are much larger than earnings from stock market investments would be. In addition, she explains that there are no taxes on investment income from a Roth IRA, because the investment has already been taxed. This results in significant tax advantages of which I had never been aware. Everyone planning for retirement should read this book. It opened my eyes!

IRA for the long term.......2007-06-27
I think I understood the underlying theme of this book, but the author made it more difficult to read and understand than need be. It seemed he was trying to be either clever or funny to the detriment of the content.
Help when I Need It.......2007-01-13
ONly on the first chapter and already learning what I should be doing. Easy to read and understand. With book's help I may be able to save a lot of money.
Concise info on stretch IRA's.......2007-01-04
Ed Slott is considered THE expert on stretch IRA's. Book is aimed at investors who will probably die before depleting their IRA funds. It explains how to structure a stretch IRA to pass this money on to future generations with minimal taxation.
Book is better organized than Slott's previous books. It is very readable. I keep it for a reference and have purchased additional copies for gifts.
Requried Reading for Anyone with an IRA........2006-07-23
This book focuses on ensuring that your IRA is properly set up, so that it can be passed on to beneficiaries intact, effectively establishing a "stretch IRA". The stretch IRA describes an IRA held by a beneficiary, and which will pay out over their lifetime.
This book is very well organized, and the author is clearly very enthusiastic about his subject. He does quite well making his case, that you should ensure your IRA passes intact to a beneficiary, in that it can offer them HUGE tax advantages for their entire life time.
He is also quite good about explaining the steps you need to achieve this. Much of the book is reference material that will not apply to everyone at any given time, but that is not a real criticism. The book is cheap enough, and the sections that apply to all are worth the entire purchase price.
If you have an IRA, and you have any desire to pass your assets along to a beneficiary, this book is an excellent starting point.

The Insider's Guide to Tax-Free Real Estate: Retire Rich Using Your IRA.......2007-09-05
This book was a great surprise! I thought that I was getting another book on IRA investing, but it was also informative about a new product that I had not heard of called the Solo 401(k). Really, this book is a must read for everyone...especially for people who have reached income limits for contributing to their IRA. It is also extremely helpful with ideas of how to purchase real estate within the self-directed retirement vehicle. I used the information in this book to redirect my investment goals!

The Guiding Merriman.......2007-08-16
The most complete book for understanding the whats and hows of retirement planning and investing for retirement. Complete with data to support the ideas the author presents.
Review of overall subject matter .......2007-05-30
One of the best references on the subject of retirement & Investing I have read so far. Step by step method for securing income during retirement. Intruduces a number of strategies Investors don't want you to know about. I have recommended this book to several of my friends who are also close to retirement. For those close to retirement, it should be front and center in their libraries. A lot of facts backing up recommendations. Short read.
Easy to Read and Excellent Advice.......2007-03-21
I found Merriman's writing style easy to read. He does an excellent job of covering the basics of investing including asset allocation.
Merriman's suggestion of holding 50% foreign stocks and 50% U.S. stocks was a little surprising to me. I was not expecting such a high allocation to foreign stocks. Vanguard, for example, suggests no more than 20% foreign stocks. Merriman makes a compelling case for holding 50% foreign stocks, but past performance of foreign stocks relative to U.S. stocks does not necessarily mean future performance will be the same.
Another surprise was no mention of REITs. For a book published in 2005, I expected to see at least a 10% allocation to U.S. REITs.
The last surprise was his recommendation of DFA funds compared to Vanguard funds. He tries to make the case the 1% of assets fee per year to a DFA advisor is more than offset by the superior performance of a DFA fund portofolio compared to a Vanguard portfolio. Most of the extra return is not due to lower DFA expense ratios, but the fact that DFA offers more asset class choices than Vanguard. I'm a big Vanguard fan, plus manage my own portfolio.....so I'm not sold on the DFA approach.
Over-all an excellent book.
I would suggest companion books to supplement this book including:
The Richest Man in Babylon
Bogle on Mutual Funds: New Perspectives for the Intelligent Investor
The Millionaire Next Door
The Four Pillars of Investing: Lessons for Building a Winning Portfolio
A Random Walk Down Wall Street: The Time-Tested Strategy for Successful Investing, Ninth Edition
Index Mutual Funds: How to Simplify Your Financial Life and Beat the Pro's
The Coffeehouse Investor: How to Build Wealth, Ignore Wall Street, and Get On With Your Life
The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing
Wealth: Grow It, Protect It, Spend It, and Share It
All About Asset Allocation.
Better Book Than Most Books Offering Financial Advice.......2007-01-21
Merriman's book offers readers a review of different portfolio options with a focus on the risk of each portfolio. Most books and discussion of investment options fail to consider risk and thereby mislead readers into thinking that one can simply repeat the strategy that produced spectacular investment returns in a prior year.
This book provides example portfolios that were constructed using the most convincing economic theory to-date developed by leading financial and economic scientists at the highest regarded economic schools in the world (Chicago, Stanford, Yale). The probability of having greater portfolio returns than most people by receiving the average return of many asset classes (financial markets) is higher when investors follow the relatively low risk options Merriman provides.
I highly recommend this book to readers of all knowledge levels. I also highly recommend the firm Merriman Capital Management for its low fees, excellant customer service, and access to the mutual funds of Dimensional Fund Advisors. The portfolio returns of DFA funds have far exceeded the portfolio returns of most actively managed funds and even passively managed funds from Vanguard and Fidelity in all of the last 5 years including 2006.
Understanding the importance of Asset Classes.......2006-04-21
This book, written by a money manager with 40 years of experience in the field, makes it crystal clear how diversification using asset classes can increase your return while reducing risk. It offers fundamentally sound advice while rejecting the "get rich quick" mentality. If you want to sleep better when you retire, read this book.

Ed does a great job on giving you detailed information of how to stretch your IRA assets for the next generation. He also does a great job of including information on how to write your trust so that you can control your assets beyond the grave. This is mainly important for clients who have lots of assets in their IRAs or for people who just pass away before they use their IRA assets. Since you don't know when you are going to pass away, I think it is important to get your trust and your IRA beneficiaries set up as soon as possible.
One downside of this book is that Ed seems to sell more of his stuff - his newsletter and his training. If you read his books, I think you have most of the information you need unless you run into very complicated situations. If that happens, then I would suggest getting a good financial advisor, CPA, and an estate planning lawyer to assist you.
Little added.......2005-09-04
Ed Slott repeated alot of what was included in "The Retirement Savings Time Bomb...", so I was not as impressed with this book. You can get 98% of what to do in the "Time Bomb". But if you really want to save all your money to your kids and their kids, it should help you.
Parlay Your IRA into a family fortune.......2005-08-02
Very good information. Is vital information that would be very useful to anyone with a large IRA and a significant number of beneficiaries.

Don't Die Broke: How to Turn Your Retirement Savings into Lasting Income, by personal-finance writer and financial-education specialist Margaret A. Malaspina, offers a fresh take on one of today's hottest money matters by outlining ways to tap most effectively into the retirement nest egg that you're currently nurturing. While most such guides concentrate on actually amassing those future fiscal resources in the first place, Malaspina shows instead how to maximize what you're (hopefully) already building so you'll (hopefully) always have what you need. "Most people find themselves making decisions about retirement plan distributions with little guidance," she writes. "Few people understand the consequences of their choices--or, indeed, what choices they have." In clear, highly focused chapters, she offers solid suggestions for creating a lasting retirement income, lowering potential taxes, and building an estate worth passing along. --Howard Rothman
Book Description
The book that picks up where other retirement planning books leave off. People spend years saving for retirement. But how can they find out exactly what to do with the money they've accumulated? What are the various and complicated options they need to know about so they don't risk big tax hits? How can this hard-earned money be turned into lasting income? Don't Die Broke, in hardcover format, went to a third printing within four months of publication. As baby boomers are faced with financial questions they've never had to think about, they can turn to author Margaret Malaspina for her expert financial advice. Peter Lynch says, "There's not another book like it." Here's how one reader describes Don't Die Broke: "This book was a great surprise. I didn't expect to like it, mostly because I hate the very thought of retirement planning and I approach the subject kicking and screaming. Yet it is time, and this book has been an enormous help. It makes the subject at least accessible, if not downright friendly." There are hundreds of books on saving for retirement and investing in retirement. This book is different. Don't Die Broke picks up where most retirement planning leaves off--and sets the standard for reader-friendly information on a complicated topic.
Smart Strategies:
* Creating a retirement paycheck that will last a lifetime
*Choosing the right withdrawal option
* Lowering the tax bill on retirement savings
* Avoiding dead-end or irrevocable choices
* Building an estate plan that preserves tax benefits for heirs
* Finding professional help and additional resources

Don't believe the subtitle.......2002-07-11
The subtitle is "Taking Money out of your IRA, 401(k), or other savings plan-- and creating lasting retirement income, but there's precious little useful how-to here. There's basically one chapter (9) that deals with the details of setting up a withdrawal plan and the advice boils down to "go find an investment advisor". Most of the book is spent explaining 401ks, IRAs, workplace plans, etc.
It's my own fault, though. Next time I'll read the TOC before buying!
A Solid Effort!.......2001-03-17
Many rules and regulations govern pension plans. The technicalities are complicated and change constantly. People can make irrevocable errors doing something as simple as moving assets from one plan to another. Margaret A. Malaspina cuts through retirement plan red tape and explains the jargon. She shows you how to get to your money after you have worked hard to save it. This book demystifies your options and clarifies the consequences of your choices. The author makes reading about taxes relatively painless. We at getAbstract recommend this book to anyone planning retirement, switching retirement plans, or withdrawing retirement funds. However, because of its discussion of United States tax law, it is not useful to those in other countries.
A practical, step-by-step, effective approach.......2001-02-17
In Don't Die Broke, Margaret Malaspina offers a careful, practical, step-by-step, effective approach to ensuring proper and profitable management of money. Here is a wealth of useful advice and counsel on making money last, avoiding the need to spend retirement years worrying about financial security. The reader will learn how to turn assets into income; create a monthly paycheck from savings, stocks, and other financial resources; avoid making irreversible mistakes with retirement savings; understand a company's retirement plans, individual retirement accounts (such as the new Roth IRAs); transfer wealth to heirs; and minimize taxes on retirement savings. Don't Die Broke is "must" reading for anyone seeking relief from financial stress in their retirement and eventually being able to leave something to loved ones.
This book is a lifeline...highly recommend it.......2000-02-07
Like so many of my friends, my husband's and my focus has been all about reaching some magic number that would say, ok,now it's safe to retire without going broke... We gave not a thought to how we'd manage the money afterwards. But then we began to hear rumors ... you must do this, you can't do that, and panic set in. Finally, after reading Ms. Malaspina's book, we understand what's really going on (better than we did after talking to our accountant!). I've given this book to friends and even a cousin who was 69-1/2 and didn't have a clue about the need to start drawing on certain retirement savings. This book should be required reading for anyone over 50. Thanks, Bloomberg Press!
Excellent Treatise On A Very Complicated Topic.......2000-02-07
Margaret Malaspina has done an incredible service to the taxpaying world in her book. As a Certified Public Accountant, I can attest to fact that dealing with the Internal Revenue Service Code is an extremely difficult process. She has consistently dealt with this complicated and very confusing subject and de-mystified it in a way that heretofore has never been done. As more and more assets of American citizens are finding their way into retirement accounts, the timing of this book is perfect. What might appear to be some type of simple election or investment decision can backfire in terms of significant additional taxes. She attempts and succeeds in identifying these problems and proposing appropriate solutions. I have read it thoroughly and have recommended it to my clients and friends.

Give it a try before you buy.......2007-01-29
I may well be alone here, but I failed to find the author's style 'humorous and engaging.' I found it awkward and off putting. So be warned: read over a few pages and a few lame jokes before you commit your money.
Practical Retirement Advice.......2007-01-13
Important practical advice for those headed towards retirement. Boomer or Bust provides readers the information they need to financially prepare for their retirement. A clear, concise and enjoyable read.
Don't Pass This One Up!.......2007-01-02
A great, easy to understand, resouce on retirement financial planning. For baby boomers like me, who do not have a lot of free time to read, this book highlights the "Need To Know" areas to make a smooth and economically sound transition into retirement.
Essential Information Made Easy to Understand.......2006-12-21
Most Boomers are torn in so many directions they just don't have time to investigate the crucial topics covered by "Boomer or Bust", which is why they are bound to make costly mistakes either with their own planning or that of their parents. Attorney Weisman, in his down to earth manner, makes complicated material easy to follow and even fun to learn about. Readers will feel quite empowered to take control over their own situations before they find themselves having to make difficult decisions or worse; while in crisis.
Informative and entertaining.......2006-12-12
Along with being extremely informative this book is a very enjoyable read. The author has an amusing style that keeps you engaged and hungry for more. As Alan Colmes states in his endorsement above, this "is as entertaining to read as it is practical."
