5 out of 5 stars Easy and thoughtful way to clear your debt and free your life.......2007-09-29

What I liked best about this book is that it's real. It doesn't sugar-coat the frustration and even embarrasment that you can feel when you find yourself 30,000 or more in debt. But it doesn't simply rub your hand and tell you to "manifest" prosperity either. Frankly, putting too much energy into the law of attraction is likely how we get ourselves into all this debt - trying to be like "everyone" else.

I digress.

The book puts out some straightforward steps for you to follow. Follow them and you'll eventually get out of debt. Not tomorrow. And without having to pay some userer for "debt consolidation counseling" either. But it's work.

I liken it to losing weight - you have to change you're whole mindset and make small, positive changes every day in order to acheive your goal. The same principles apply here. Make changes every day. Don't debt any more and follow the plan. No magic bullet - but haven't you realized they don't work anyway?

5 out of 5 stars LIVING PROOF.......2007-09-01

Just 6 years ago (2001), I found myself under crushing student loan and credit card debt. You would be blown away by how much debt I'd amassed. I'd lost my job and the creditors were calling. My life quickly fell apart. I was depressed, anxious and mentally paralyzed, not knowing how to take back control. Creditors were calling every five minutes it seemed, yelling at me, threatening me. I was broke, and broken-hearted at where things were in my life. I even had to move back in with my parents which was humiliating. I read a lot of books on finances and two of them made all the difference in the world, "How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt and Live Prosperously," and "Rich Dad Poor Dad." "Rich Dad" was about concepts and changing the paradigm of how I looked at money. "How to Get Out of Debt" was very, very specific with HOW to get out of debt and GET RICH SLOWLY. Reading "How to Get Out of Debt" was like my first day of sobriety. I had no idea that I even had this debting habit, as dumb as that may sound. I was reading the book, going "wow--that's me!" I applied the BACK TO BLACK principles, day by day, month by month, year by year. And now, 6 years later, I celebrate my first full year of ownership in my first home--which seemed an impossible dream just two years ago. I own my car outright. I have zero credit card debt. And my overall student loan debt has been reduced by at least 40%. I pay cash that I've saved for things that I need. I PAY MYSELF FIRST! (this is a key principle in both books). And believe it or not, I haven't had a credit card in about 10 years now--I use a Visa checkcard. Without a credit card I've traveled to Europe, Mexico and Central America, rented cars, and paid for emergencies. And I don't live impoverished. I just live within my means, and pay cash with money saved. It's a complete myth that you need a credit card to survive. This book helped me to understand that. It was also very specific as to what happens if a creditor takes you to court or ruins your credit, which are probably the two biggest threats they have over you. Knowledge made all those things less scary. Ultimately, I would say this book is about how to replace unhealthy money habits with healthier ones. If this book cost $1,000, it would still be worth it. At $10, it's a blessing.

5 out of 5 stars Please read, it will teach you how to help yourself.......2007-07-17

If you are like me and you are trying to pay your bils and debts in a responsible and timely manner..this book is for you. I have read some of the other " financial authors" out there and I always felt lost and that there advice was just out of my needs..this book was right on. After I followed the spending plan record ( Wow, do you honestly want to know what you are spending, this will open your eyes) and wrote all my debts down in black and white, I feel that I can tackle all my money issues in a clear and concise manner.
After following this plan, I am now ready to move on to retirement planning, college savings, etc. If you are trying to get through today so you can get to tomorrow, this financial guide is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Get Out of the Red and Into the Black.......2007-07-03

Plain and simple, How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt & Live Prosperously is one of the best contributions to the personal finance realm. Why do I say that? Because, in no uncertain terms, it addresses circumstances that most people in our society find themselves - deep in debt, digging deeper, and dealing, in silent desperation, with the repercussions.

In an era where consumers often finance their lifestyles with credit cards, use their homes like ATM machines, and, ultimately, make consumer credit counseling a booming business, Jerrold Mundis explains how our emotions and habitual thinking have put, and kept, many of us on the path to financial ruin.

The genius of this book, however, is its backbone: the principles of Debtors Anonymous. Though we may hate to think of it, habits of a lifetime do take work to change, ignoring does Madison Avenue take emotional strength, and dealing with the issues debt often engenders can be really tough. But, this book offers hope, and support, to those who heed its message.

Bottom line: no matter where how deep in debt you are, there is a way out if you keep your head and keep moving forward. And, Mundis can help you do it, if you follow his three cardinal rules: 1) don't debt one day at a time, 2) Keep a spending record scrupulously, and 3) adhere closely to your spending plan.

All in all, How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt & live Prosperously can be one of the best additions to your financial library, whether you are in drowning in debt or not.

2 out of 5 stars Only for people in serious debt with no knowledge of finances.......2007-06-21

For my situation, this book was too rudimentary. I was looking for something that would give me startegies on how to payoff debt quicker. This book is not really about ways to payoff debt. It is more about learning how to spend less and seemed to be more of an advertisement for Debtors Anonymous. Things like "Try to go one day without using your credit card"... not for me. If you're in really bad shape and spend and spend without any way to stop then seek professional help, don't rely on this book. If you're like me and just looking for ways to reduce your outstanding debt quicker, look elsewhere, this is not the book for you.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very useful.......2007-01-21

Loved this book. So many practical ideas for getting out of debt. Especially her rapid debt repayment plan. I appreciated Mary Hunt's inspirational story for motivation. It's a very useful book!

4 out of 5 stars Very impressed with the tips in this book.......2006-11-17

This is a great primer for those getting started on a path to living debt-free, living on one income, or just trying to be fiscally responsible. Hunt talks about attitudes about money that can be helpful to take on, strategies for thinking about and reducing your debt, and lists a number of weighty cheapskate tips that I found very helpful.

The only odd thing about this book is that it mentions God a number of times and suggests titheing and other activities and attitudes that have to do with God, yet it does not mention God or Christianity anywhere on the front or back cover - I don't know why. I am not a Christian and so I just skipped over these parts, but I would have liked to know that I was reading a book based on Christian beliefs before I bought it, since it wasn't just the odd mention.

Other than that surprise, this is a book I'd recommend to those new to frugality.

5 out of 5 stars Practical guide to gaining control over your finances.......2006-03-27

The tile of this book is somewhat misleading - The Complete Cheapskate is not really about how to be "cheap" or get the best deal on something. In fact, the book's subtitle describes much more accurately what it is really about: "How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out, and Break Free from Money Worries Forever!" In short, The Complete Cheapskate is a concise and down-to-earth guide to getting out of debt and getting one's finances in order.

Speaking from her personal experience, Mary Hunt describes the struggle with debt that she had gone through. Even though it was a difficult time for her and her family, she was able to overcome it and learned a lot in the process. Since then, she has dedicated her career to helping people in similar situations overcome their dependence on material things and get their financial lives on track. This book outlines her step-by-step process for getting control over one's finances.

It all begins with developing the right attitude towards money and spending, and being committed to this new financial journey. Then comes the hard part: getting a realistic assessment of your debt situation and begin taking some basic steps to get out of it. After that, Mary tackles subjects ranging from Giving, to Saving, to starting a "Freedom Account" (a powerful concept that, once applied, will help you always be prepared for any unexpected expenses, as well as save for some fun things). She then helps you figure out how to live within your means by using some basic budgeting, and offers a long list of money-saving tips in a separate chapter. Once you have committed to getting out of debt and taking control over your finances, Mary's system is easy to apply. She outlines very specific steps and given gives you examples of worksheets that you can put together (either with Excel or pen and paper), so that it's easy to manage and does not require much time - until after a while, it becomes your second nature. The bottom line is, this system works, provided there is commitment and strong desire to change.

I can speak from personal experience that I have used many of Mary's principles to get a handle on my financial situation. Even though I have both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Finance, I needed some help tackling my spending habits and large amounts of student debt. I began my journey towards financial freedom almost nine months ago, having read Dave Ramsey's book. While I came across Mary's writings only relatively recently, I saw a lot of similarities in the overall approach and philosophy - and I have already taken several of her concepts and tools and incorporated them into my personal financial management process.

The Complete Cheapskate is a short book. The actual content is only 169 pages (including about 35 pages of money-saving ideas); the rest of the book (another 60-some pages) contains some of "The Best of Cheapskate Monthly Articles" and some more money-saving ideas (suggested by readers of Mary's column). I didn't find these additional materials quite as engaging as the rest of her book - mostly because they seem neither complete in themselves nor do they fit with the overall narrative. It seems that they were thrown into the book almost as an afterthought, just to bulk up the content.

Overall, I would recommend reading this book to someone who is struggling with debt and cannot see a clear way out. Even if you've already read other books on the subject, it may just be that this is the one that will make it all "click" for you. I would also recommend it as a useful reading for someone who is not in debt (yet), but who would like to know how to avoid it in the future. It is both a cautionary tale and a user's manual to one's finances, and its common-sense approach can be applied by almost anyone. The best thing is, it's a quick read and can be easily put into practice, even if you just rent it from the library (like I did). This way, you will already be on your way to becoming a "cheapskate". (Sorry, Amazon!)

4 out of 5 stars Very helpful tools.......2006-02-01

I found that this book has very helpful tools to manage money. Some of the ideas aren't applicable to my situation, but overall the ideas were good ones and the samples of the spreadsheets were useful. A lot of it is common knowledge, but it helps you to implement the changes in a way that works for you.

5 out of 5 stars A well-defined plan of action..........2005-08-10

This book provides a well-defined plan of action that is very doable. From her own experience, Ms. Hunt has proven the effectiveness of her plan. It is also nice to see a "how-to" book written by someone that has "walked the walk" before she "talked the talk."

This is the second book of Ms. Hunt's that I have purchased, however, I have discovered that each of her books pretty much contains the same information.

"You can pay off your debts and your mortgage in 5-10 years." During the next five to ten years, you will need to stop spending and make the decision to have "No more debt". Emotionally ignite yourself and believe you can be debt free. You will need to get each member of the family to believe in the vision of debt free and help encourage them to accomplish this goal by rewarding them to stop wasting money and buying at a discount. Be a contratrian moving against the trend, "the more we make, the more we spend" and transform it too "the more we make, the more we invest." 9% of the population will retire with an income of 50k. Make it a goal to own your car and home. Typically, once your income stops, you have 90 days before the bank wants to foreclose. Suppose a home cost 165k for the initial purchase and the borrower of the loan makes 17 years of payments totalling 165k then loses his job and is forced into bankruptcy and foreclosure proceedings. The bank ignores the fact that the borrower has made 165k worth of payments, eliminates most of the equity in the home by offering "auction prices", takes possession of the home, and resells it for a profit. The bank wins through the monthly interest/principal payments and the resell and financing of the home to a new borrower. The author lost her home worth $1.4 million, 14,000 sq ft, and received $5k. She became angry and decided too become debt free.

What is the bottom line? Suppose 45 years of income with a total income of $2,250,000, Less Total Taxes Paid of $1,187,685, Less Mortgage and Interest $315,929, Less Automobile costs - $615,929, leaves $416,386 of money for your family. After 45 years of work you have $416,386 left less other expenses, such as, medical & dental, insurance, food and clothing, utilities, furniture, gifts, and vacation/entertainment, school and college, investment for retirement, child car, and repair on home & auto. Most people retire with less than 100k.

Break the chain of debt: 1. Get rid of credit card debt. For each dollar paid it will cost $4 to repay and 20 years. CC debt and medical emergencies are the number one destroyer of middle class wealth and stablity. 2. Don't buy new. Offer $500 above dealer trade in value for a car. Let friends and relatives know you will be interested in buying their car when they are ready to trade up. Automobile leasing is a cash drain and only makes sense for businesses which can take a tax credit. 3. Insure for 5-7 times your income. The rule of thumb for Insurance is "raise your deductibles" according to risk. 4. Make future payments on your mortgage. Here is where I disagree. Invest your money and then payoff your mortgage with the investments in one swoop. Let the money work for you outside the banking system. 5. Eliminate unnecessary spending and invest the money. Be a predator on spending waste. 6. Increase your income: 1. get a second job 2. create a business, turn your hobby into a money making venture. 3. sell cars, have yard sells, liquidate excessive items 4. reduce eating out and costly recreation/entertainment. 5. Stop impulsive spending - Stay away from bargain sales and marketing media. 6. Put a chart on your refrigator that tracks all the spending. Implement an family open books policy that shows where all the expenses when. Let family members provide feedback and ideas to improve the financial health of the family. Let family member critique the expense ledgers. Make the decision of overcome the spending temptation. 7. Become a thrift spender: buy older cars, clip coupons, attend auctions, look for things at yard sales, buy wholesale, join discount buying organizations, shop at consignment shops, buy only at end-of-season, and buy discount travel.

4 out of 5 stars Not Too Bad.......2004-01-18

This book isn't too bad. It doesn't cover anything revolutionary, but it does a good job of covering some of the basics of getting out of debt. It's an easy read and goes fairly quick. If you want to read it I'd suggest picking it up at the library rather than buying it. One pitfall it does have is that the author could have left her anti-government and political propaganda out of it, that was a bit annoying.

4 out of 5 stars Worth the price, and more.......2000-04-02

Contrary to the preceding opinion from Alabama, this book is a good buy. It tells how to get rid of all your debt in the shortest possible timeframe, saving thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. It even gives a few examples of ways to decrease expenses so that you can use the difference to accelerate repayment of your debts. Following the advice in the book, I expect to be completely out of debt (over $140k, including the mortgage) within 5 years and expect to retire (comfortably) at least seven years earlier than I had anticipated. (P.S. -- I don't make six figures and have a young child.)

The only thing I would change is that the author tells you where to go to find the "best" credit cards. Is there really such a thing? Getting another credit card will, over time, put far too many people back to square one. If you keep in mind that if you can't buy something for cash, that means you can't afford it -- this book can take you the rest of the way.

If you think this book is useless you're probably looking for an easy way out of debt (expecting an inheritance?).

1 out of 5 stars ONLY COMMON SENSE.......2000-02-22

THIS BOOK COVERS MATERIAL ALREADY KNOWN TO ALL READERS OVER THE AGE OF 16. DOES NOT FORMULATE OR DISCUSS ANY PRATICAL PLAN FOR DEBT REDUCTION

5 out of 5 stars inspiring.......1999-09-28

I have read many books about getting out of debt. Most of them have approx the same theories. I gathered two valuable pieces of information from this book. The first one was about how to go about paying off the mortgage and the second was how to prioritize your credit card bills to pay off. Inspiring!

2 out of 5 stars No practical information provided.......2007-03-26

I was recommended this book by a professional credit counselor. After reading the reviews below, I knew it had a heavilly Christian bias and was prepared for that. However, it is about 90% antecdotes about couples in financial trouble. And in each instance, the couples (and reportedly the author himself) are rescued by a financial miracle after accepting responsibility for their debts and praying. As nice as it would be to rely on that, I was looking for practical advice. It tells you to make a budget, but doesn't tell HOW to make and stick to a budget. There is absolutely nothing in here about how to actually get debt-free and stay that way.

Completely ignoring the heavy religious bias (there's no effort to hide it in the descriptions of the book) I can see one "pro" in this book...the narratives about couples in trouble are a bit hokey, but they do put a mirror up to readers who can see bits of their own habits in at least one of the couples. Facing the bad habits is a starting point. Go somewhere else for practical advice. I for one do not have time to wait for God to tell someone to pay off my student loans and offer me a free place to live!

5 out of 5 stars Debt-Free Living.......2007-03-09

This book has changed my life! If you are a Christian, it is a must-read as it details what God's blessings will come if you follow His Biblical plan. Well-written and full of real-life examples. Also see companion Budget Workbook by Larry Burkett.

5 out of 5 stars The truth about debt and credit. This book can help a lot of people!.......2006-08-09

This is a really good book concerning financial issues that face almost everyone.

Larry Burkett's easy-to-read advice is truly a blessing to the Christian community, and I highly recommend it. God does not want our lives to be financially unstable. The different couples in this book and the situations that they suffer through allow the reader to see how finances can spiral out of control.

The advice in this book is solid. It is not a get-out-of-debt-fast magic book. It is a book written by a man who understands the drastic changes in the way society sees debt. We have been bombarded with a "get it with credit if you can't afford it" attitude.

People who truly want to stop accumulating and accepting debt as just a fact of life now have a book to get them started on the road to financial freedom.

Stop the insanity of just paying off one loan with another loan, buy Burkett's book and get started on the road to financial happiness.

See ya next review!

5 out of 5 stars Great Help!.......2006-08-07

This book is great! Spiritually focused help for everyone. Easy read and practical use. Strongly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars Very profitable reading........2005-04-16

I really liked this book. It is a classic book for those who are interested in managing their finances according to Biblical principles, and for those who have landed themselves into debt. Larry Burkett teaches biblical principles of debt-management by telling stories... stories collected over years of counseling thousands of struggling individuals and couples. Some of the previous reviewers have said that these stories are just anecdotal scare-tactics, but the intriguing thing is that I see highly-educated people around me making the same "anecdotal" mistakes with their finances (and reaping the consequences). Americans (in general) have no clue how much house they can afford, etc. and regard debt as a necessary evil... or even as a good thing. This book helps you to see debt in a more balanced light, and is highly recommended to anyone who struggles in this area.

As you can see by some of the other reviews, if you're not a Christian, you'll probably get hung up on some of the biblical principles: such things like keeping your word even when it costs you money, family leadership principles, living within your means, and the husband-wife relationship. So if you're not a Christian, I would suggest taking a serious look at the Bible (by studying what it says) and then compare it to the principles in this book. I think you'll find that the Bible is reliable and timeless in its guidelines for finances just as it is for every other area of life.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the Jungle. Kill or be killed. The simple truth..........2002-06-30

This book is the answer to the real cold hard questions of life. The author is not afraid to tell the un-politically correct truth about most of the credit world. It is you against them.
You hear many people reviewing this book whining about "The moral obligation to pay your debts". What do I have to say to that? "Knock, Knock...Wake up Neo, the Matrix has you". "You are a slave, Neo..." Go Buy or rent the Matrix DVD.
Wake up and smell the coffee. The credit card corporations would sell you and your children's flesh to boost their profit margin. Their goal is to load you up with the most debt, at the extreme highest interest rate, to keep you paying the rest of your life, without pushing you into bankruptcy.
Moral lenders? Minimum payments on credit cards take 15 years to repay the balance...If! You don't use them anymore. "The moral obligation to pay your debts", Give me a break! Buy, Read this book, then give it to another victim of the credit world! Wake Up!!!

2 out of 5 stars Controversial Book.......1998-12-04

Debt Control is an interesting book with many controversial ideas. The author seems to think that the people can get away from paying their debt using the "Statutes of Limitations" Rule, for their state. After reading his book, I looked up the Fair Credit Act and found that he left out some clauses to certain laws on credit and the rights of the creditors and customers. It was fair price for the content of the book. I have read some other credit books by Steinberg and Russell, two of my favorite authors. Some of the terms are confusing because there is no definitions or terms to define them.

I would recommend this book if you have nothing better to do. I did find the listing of creditors to request credit reports from helpful and the list of the state's representatives helpful.

5 out of 5 stars Let's Get Down To The Nitty-Gritty.........1998-12-04

Debt Control is one of the few books written in simple English, without all the fancy-schmancy legal terms and idiosyncrasies of how-to-get-help books. It is filled with significant sources of good and legal information, from how to buy a house (Mr. Richards' next book) to how to do a budget to the infamous chapter on CREDIT CARDS. The written words are easy to understand and he includes real-life examples that people can actually relate to. I have invested in a few how to repair credit programs and have wasted money trying to figure out how to use the program, only to realize it was a rip-off. His straight to the point attitude on the subjects of money and personal finances can be found within the pages of this priceless 200 page book. It will be the best 200 pages of information you will ever invest in. (Just think it costs you less than a penny per page and cheaper than the price of dinner to get information that will change your life.)

1 out of 5 stars Bad Advice.......1998-11-18

This book, Debt Control, contains incorrect information about the banking laws and gives consumers the wrong advice on finances. If a bank lends you money, and you don't have the monies to pay it back within time, Mr. Richards is telling the consumers that it is okay not to pay it back. How can this be? If one loans you money, then it is your obligation to pay it back to the creditor! It is your obligation. Mr. Richard's book is not a good source of true financial information.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide to help control your finances!.......1998-11-10

I found the book very interesting and informative. The information provided would cost $1000's of dollars in fee's from legal representation. In fact, I'm not sure that an attorney would beable to provide as practical and as usefull of information as in the Debt Control book.

Inconclusion, after purchasing and reading several books on this subject, Debt Control is by far the best source for information on the subject of managing ones money and controlling debt on the market today.

    5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised.......2001-12-23

I'm a grad student and a friend of mine gave this to me as a gift. I don't consider myself a very religious person, and I was rather skeptical of it at first. However, I found it to be inspirational and even informative. While it's very clear that the author is not a financial expert, I don't think it's his intent to come off that way. This book is definitely not for the super-intelligent wall street invester, but for the average joe who's got bills. A lot of scripture, but it supports his argument in a way that makes sense and is very encouraging even for a non-Christian. What was most helpful to me were the ten steps to debt freedom, which are practical and easy to understand. The debt reduction chart is also good as a model to help the reader to organize a plan to pay back debt and prepare for saving and investing. I honestly don't see how his math was off, other than the fact that some of the interest rates he discusses have changed. Overall, this is a good book, I think especially for young adults, college students and other people in my age group who are having a ball making debt. A surprisingly simple and valuable read.

4 out of 5 stars So Close To Perfect........2001-08-31

This book is by a Pastor who really cares about the community in which he lives in. He learned this valued info and passed it on to his congregation so that they too would be Out of Debt and in to Praise. Not only did he share this info with his flock he also shared it with over thirty thousand other households in his community because of a vision that he has for his community. The book is great and has some very good info.

2 out of 5 stars Lots of preaching, not much practicality.......2001-08-31

For a book on how to get out of debt, this book offers very little on how to do that. Someone needs to go through this book and correct all the math errors ... don't rely on the figures. You'll love this book if you want lots of Scripture and preaching. But there are much better books if you want to get out of debt.

Reverend Jesse Jackson and his congressman son form the most powerful one-two punch for human rights. In It's About the Money! they take that fight from the police jails and picket lines to Wall Street and the wallet. In an era when many Americans think that playing the lottery is a surer bet than investing in the stock market, the Jacksons demystify the often confusing world of economics and empower the average citizen to achieve a more secure financial future. With information on money management, debt elimination, home mortgages, stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, the Jacksons provide the reader with the factual armor to guard against monetary uncertainties of the future. "Living in capitalism without understanding the role of money is like a fish that doesn't know how to navigate water," they write. "In our modern economy, capital is the equivalent of water to fields. With it comes the possibility of growth, without it little can survive." --Eugene Holley Jr.

    Book Description

Rooted in the American dream, It's About the Money! is the Reverend Jesse Jackson and Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr.'s program for helping every American become financially independent and self-sufficient. It offers the nuts and bolts of personal finance, including:

    Getting out of debt
    Preparing a budget
Building wealth through a regular program of saving and investing
    Preparing for retirement
    Avoiding financial scams
Dealing with major life events, such as sending children to college

The Reverend Jackson and Congressman Jackson believe that the message contained in It's About the Money! is the fourth step in the movement to freedom. The first three (emancipation from slavery, ending legal segregation, securing the right to vote) laid the basis for
the most contemporary stage: access to capital and financial independence. It's About the Money! includes many inspiring stories of people who have learned how to manage their money, save on a regular basis, and plan for the future by building a nest egg. Its message of financial empowerment is one that the Reverend Jackson will focus on and spread across the country in the year 2000: the need for every individual and family to become financially self-reliant. He will have strong support for this message through the African-American church network.

5 out of 5 stars "Money" is the Bottom Line!.......2001-04-01

This book covers all you need to know in planning your financial future. I found it to be comprehensive, thoroughly researched, and very well written. There is no substitute for having a good analysis of how to use financial planning strategies. Mary Gotschall's attempt is a 5-star winner. "It's About the Money" is definitely the bottom line in financial planning - a must read.

5 out of 5 stars A Superb Personal Finance Book.......2001-02-19

This is one of the best books on personal finances ever written for the layperson. In easy-to-under prose, it explains how to amass wealth and how to manage it. An indispensable addition to the library of anyone looking to improve their financial situation over the long haul!

    1 out of 5 stars What a sham.......2001-02-14

Rev. JJ and his son write a book about capitalism and how people can suceed in America. How does one of the U.S's biggest liberals going to tell people how to make money in America. The part where he Rev JJ says that Americans are better off quiting thier jobs and living off welfare really took me back. Rev JJ promotes lazyness and corruption in America. HE SHOULD OF WRITEN A BOOK CALLED, REV. JJ'S TEN STEPS TO EXTORTION. " You to can have the power to rip people off."

4 out of 5 stars Basic Financial Empowerment for all ..........2000-02-01

The Reverend Jesse Jackson illuminates basic financial planning, not in a technical format, but one that applies basic financial planning techniques to human needs, spirit, and soul.

Financial independence becomes a cornerstone message of freedom, outlining the life empowerment that financial freedom brings. Through the Jacksons financial freedom message, the lofty concepts of economics, capital, taxes, financial planning, and debt are brought down to earth and applied in personal human terms. This is a message of financial empowerment appropriate to all!

5 out of 5 stars Much More Than Expected!.......2000-01-09

It's About The MONEY is inspirational, easy to read, and is content-rich. Whether you are a novice, aspiring or experienced investor, this book can take you to the next level. In over twenty years of bringing investment information to the African American community, I am humbled by the job Rev. Jackson has done. It's About The MONEY is a "must have" for those planning to succeed in the 21st century.
